Does anyone know of any good audio book sites besides audible? Free ones are good too, of course, but I don't mind paying for them.

Likewise for a good player, since books aren't music.

How is there no open, accepted, widely used standard to store & tag things like old family photo albums, diaries, books, etc.? Surely I can't be the only one who wants to digitise all this stuff to preserve it many years from now in case the drunk Uncle pisses on it, or Grandma's dodgy electrics burn the house down and it's all lost permanently. Or perhaps I am; it does seem that most other people doing genealogy work have the technical competence of a lemon.

Like, I get it, there's *some* online solutions for this stuff (not many and they tend to cost a fortune), but if I want to store it locally or in a private git repo or whatever... well, no-one seems to do it. I want to be able to interlink individual photos with their contextual pages in albums, store metadata about them, store audio recordings of older relatives with transcripts linked, etc. - and it just doesn't seem to be a done thing.

Ah well. Perhaps I'll do it all anyway as some kind of side project, then all being well my great great grandchildren will be immensely thankful if family history stuff ever becomes popular again.

Sooo I was wondering what you guys listen to while coding?
I mostly listen to instrumentals, feel like anything that has words can sometimes be distracting.
Was thinking of listening to audio books though lol. don't know how it'll go XD.

Finished my last audiobook and decided to start listening to Kevin Hearne druid series audiobook yesterday.

It’s really nice story about old druid ( looking like 20 something ) living in modern times in Arizona. Lots of Celtic mythology and great humorous dialogues.
I really enjoy it.

Audibles are a great way to fall asleep... Like granny's bedtime stories... I used to listen to music before but now it's pretty much replaced by audio books and podcasts.

Some professors at my university just come to the class and read out the pdf/slides.

Now I know how came the idea of Audio Books and Text-to-speech PDF readers !!!

I've played around with Kali/Parrot and setup a proxmox box to perform pen testing and have a fair number of PDF ebooks and audio books on networks, security and pen testing

Within the past 24 hours TWINUI has appeared on my laptop. I noticed it in the properties of an audio file, as one of the choices to open the FLAC audio file, along with the apps I installed already.
I'm fairly certain of when it broke through and why. Is there anything I can do to get it as far the fuck away from me as possible.

Dear web developers, please think of the boot disk users.

Users might have to boot their computer from external bootable media such as a live USB stick, SSD, or live CD/DVD, after their operating system caught a problem that prevents it from booting.

Emergency boot media usually has earlier versions of web browsers because they are not frequently used, much less updated. Sadly, the developers of many websites have a habit of breaking compatibility for older web browsers. For example, the new audio player used by the Internet Archive (Archive.org) does not even support Firefox 57, a version that was released as recently as November 2017!

Therefore, websites should retain support for old web browsers. If not all features can be made to work, at least the essential features should work on older browser versions. Websites should not let down people who are stuck due to a computer problem. Those users should still be able to browse the Internet for help, and perhaps enjoy basic entertainment such as watching videos (YouTube, Dailymotion) and listenening to music or audio books (SoundCloud, Internet Archive) while at it.

The attached screenshot shows something no internet user wants to be "greeted" with.

Keep the Internet accessible.

Am I the only one that negatively judges people who listen to podcasts or audio books while they write code?
