I think the hardest thing about being a programmer in college with a security emphasis is when I approach a business for a penetration test or for a vulnerability analysis (your pick) is that they almost always say, "you are pretty young don't you think?"

Ummmm not sure what that has to do with it. If it would make you feel better I have claimed bug bounties from an antivirus company, a bank, several local businesses in my area and I do this for work at my 9-5.

And this week I got this, "I think I would like someone older so we can define the goals better."

Oh so rules of engagement, yeah of course I understand that and that's something we would discuss and draw up a contract for...

"Well we really need someone more skilled."

I don't understand, you haven't asked about certifications or schooling and you glanced at my resume for exactly 5 seconds what the hell do you want? Me to double my age over night?

One of two ways.
1. Alot of opensource companies will startup hiring developers based on what contributions they provide
2. The current companies will fire most of the devs to exploit free work from opensource devs offering pennies as bug bounties while only keeping very few maintainers.

Many times in life I experienced situations that are depressing to me yet I'm not partially or totally conscious about it.

I have a very good example that I'm actually experiencing right now: me reporting the progress of a task to my boss and getting no response from him.

He has gone on these "ignoring sprees" in the past already and for the current one, it's been like four consecutive ignores.

I guess it's depressing for two reasons:

1) I feel like my work has no importance or value, which drags me down.
2) Sometimes he also tries to rush which I consider pretty hypocritical of him. because I have to basically not complain about it to not endanger this job relationship my family dearly depends on, I have to shut up and feel frustrated. (keep in mind i'm a south am person working for a us company and I was very lucky to get this job).

For some reason I just don't notice as easily how awful it makes me feel, but I wished I could fucking tell this straight into his fucking face:

You wanna be a boss? Be a fucking boss and check on my fucking progress.

I'm considering getting into security and going for bug bounties online.
