devRanters do you think this is feasible as a fun/learning devRant community side-project?
Possible community side project: 'devie Stressball Trans-OceanicTrackable Voyage': So, my idea is based on the 2,000 year old concept of a message in a bottle. In fact, bottles from the Titanic were found 100 years after it hit the iceberg.
Pseudo: we pack devie into a bottle along with maybe a Raspberry Pi,GPS module, solar battery... Hopefully, it could send pings and we could track the journey. I am more a software guy than a hardware guy but I have played a bit with Pi and I know a few devs good with Pi's.I will also talk to the folds at Adafruit.
Here is an interesting paper I found in my beginning research. http://netlab.tkk.fi/u/jo/...
Also, I have seen low cost Raspberry Pi cubesats powered in outer space by solar.
Please let me know your thoughts if you think this might be possible. Also, if some of you might be interested in taking this learning journey. If we decide to try it I will purchase the hardware. Looking forward to your thoughts. Love this community!94 -

nope, it's gotta be smth else. How can I hunt it down when I can't even tell which direction it's coming from?!? I know. Play smart. Measure the period.

Nope, it's not there. Carry on with all the other rooms, waiting for that annoying beeping.

I think I at least know the room. Good, narowed it down.

this is getting really annoying. I've been playing with this nonsense for an hour already. Alright, it's in my kid's room. The PC is off, toys are off. What could it be....? Binary search the f

ahh, right, it's behind me then. Fine. That's the PC corner. But it's off, it can't be making sounds. Esp when it has no speakers plugged in - it's got only Bluetooth speakers which haven't been turned on for what, a year already? but then w

Turns out, some BT speakers can make low-battery sounds even when they are turned off.10 -
There's a lotta memes about Google spazzing out whenever you log into a new device, but Fitbit is even worse lol
I not only get a notification that my Fitbit's battery is low, I also get a fucking email about it.
Like y'all chill out. I know it's low.
I'm sure this can be disabled somewhere, but I'mma probably get a new watch soon so I'm too lazy to deal with it4 -
Dear bluetooth headset,
I know your battery is low, thanks for the notice. I have 1 hour work left, after that you will get your charge. I also know you underestimate your own power and can do more than an hour on reserve.
So suck it up and stop being a whiny bitch blaring your damn "battery low"-beeps into my ears. It's way too loud and beeping every 10 seconds will only strain your power reserves and my nerves.
Yours sincerely,

Why does snapchat on android suck so badly?
Lemme get this out of me.
They admitted to focusing on the iOS variant more from now on. Why? Becuase it has a larger user base.
That means they will not give many fucks about the ONE BILLION ANDROID USERS.
But about the app itself...
With quite normal usage (let's say around 30 minutes opened in total, daily) snapchat uses more battery than my screen. What the fuck?
It is literally at the very top.
It might go up to 800mAh calculated drain. I don't know how they did it.
Anyways, it doesn't even work well.
It has a lot of lag, crahses, and makes my phone as hot as a cup of tea.
I suspect that's becuase it keeps using the camera. That is, keeps it on even when you are on a different screen. This is bullshit. I do sometimes chat with people on SC but I try to minimise it for this reason.
The UI itself is okayish but still lags beyond comprehension in comparison to other apps (wow, I love the android discord client, it has full functionality at low resource cost).
As far as I'm concerned it uses some sort of web technology mix. It does use chromium so I suspect HTML, CSS and JS is also present in the source code.
Also, let's make this a terrible mobile apps rant - feel free to contribute.4
