Elon Musk: Space junk is a serious issue
Also Elon Musk: I put a Tesla into orbit lol
Love this guy16
Has anyone been paying attention to what Google's been up to? Seriously!
1) Fuchsia. An entire OS built from the ground up to replace Linux and run on thin microcontrollers that Linux would bog down — has GNU compilers & Dart support baked in.
2) Flutter. It's like React Native but with Dart and more components available. Super Alpha, but there's "Flutter Gallery" to see examples.
3) Escher. A GPU-renderer that coincidentally focuses on features that Material UI needs, used with Fuchsia. I can't find screenshots anywhere; unfortunately I tore down my Fuchsia box before trying this out. Be sure to tag me in a screenshot if you get this working!
4) Progressive Web Apps (aka Progress Web APKs). Chrome has an experimental feature to turn Web Apps into hybrid native apps. There's a whole set of documentation for converting and creating apps.
And enough about Google, Microsoft actually had a really cool announcement as well! (hush hush, it's really exciting for once, trust me)...
Qualcomm and Microsoft teamed up to run the full desktop version of Windows 10 on a Snapdragon 820. They go so far as to show off the latest version of x86 dekstop Photoshop with no modifications running with excellent performance. They've announced full support for the upcoming Snapdragon 835, which will be a beast compared to the 820! This is all done by virtualization and interop libraries/runtimes, similar to how Wine runs Windows apps on Linux (but much better compatibility and more runtime complete).
Lastly, (go easy guys, I know how much some of you love Apple) I keep hearing of Apple's top talent going to Tesla. I'm really looking forward to the Tesla Roof and Model 3. It's about time someone pushed for cheap lithium cells for the home (typical AGM just doesn't last) and made panels look attractive!
Tech is exciting, isn't it!?41
Me (to friend): So all your information these days is stored in the cloud.
Friend: Yeah I know that's crazy, huh!?
Friend: I wonder if there's any disruption of the data when planes fly through.
Me: What do you mean?
Friend: Like when a cloud breaks when a plane move through it since we store our data in the precipitation layer. Nikola Tesla would be so proud.
Me: Uh... The fuck?
Me (thinking to myself): maybe he's just joking...4
Facebook: "Our facial recognition automatically tags people in pictures."
Tesla: "Our deep learning algorithm drives cars by itself."
Andrew Ng: "I predict patients' likelihood of dying with 99% accuracy."
Google: "You know one of our algorithms is going to pass the Turing test very soon."
Wall Street: "We use satellite images to predict stock prices based how filled car parks of specific stores are."
The remaining majority of data sciencists: "We overfit linear models."2
How things will be evoluted according to elonmusk:
Car = Tesla
Space = SpaceX
Cyborg = Neuralace
Front end development =8
Interviewer: Do you have created any android application before?
Dev: I just built an application to increase, farming production to help farmers earn some more money. It's less profitable but makes farmers better.
Interviewer: That's so stupid. Do you know Jeff Bezos?
Interviewer: we need someone like that level of visionary to make money for our company. Sorry, we don't think you can make apps that makes people do stupid things for fame.
Dev: Do you know Nicola Tesla
Interviewer : yes
Dev: Well he should have pulled the plug long ago.6
Had quite some laugh at this, could be absolutely fake but it's still a great thread
Me, starting my internship in ML.. coworkers come to me asking what computer I need:
Me: Well, something more powerful than this i3, and most importantly some kind of GPU for training.
Them: Ok, what kind of GPU?
Me: Well, a 1080 or 2080 should be more than enough and good performance for the price.
Them: Oh.. We were more thinking about a Tesla V100 or something like that!
Me: (internally) WTF this costs more than what you'll pay me for the internship, this is so cool. (to them) Oh, yes, why not, great perfomance, blah blah blah.
I would prefer them to pay me more, but at least they're not going to hold me down with bad components! Nothing to rant about for now.. Hope it'll stay the same ^^6
At my school we programmed with BluJ and then switched to IntelliJ mid semester. I felt like I went from driving a station wagon to a brand new Tesla.4
According to Fast Company, Apple is more innovative than SpaceX or Tesla. Here’s top 20 according to them:38
Really cool. Tesla gave two hackers that found a vulnerability in the Model 3 free cars as a reward. More companies should do that, instead of getting all pissy. I would hope a company wants to know what their vulnerabilities are so that they can avoid embarrassment and the loss of money.3
Elon Musk: you dont need a college degree, you dont even need highscho look, if you have the required knowledge, you can work anywhere
Tesla job requirements: must have at least BSc college degree17
Elon Musk is building on new, rocket like transportation technology to travel to any part of the planet in half hour. Also should cost same as aircrafts today.
This is man modern day "Thinker"19
There are 2 kind of programmer.
The first kind is the kind who love to create useful software/product, they would use the same tool/language/technique over and over again but focus on the use case. They end up having few really good softwares.
The later kind have more tendency about clean code. They are passionate about algorithms and design patterns. They can write a todo list app in 100 of different ways. They often pick up new technology, they rarely have something made coz they feel superior knowing different kinds of framework.
Which one is better software developer? Either one is better than the other, coz it's different pursuit. Like Thomas vs Tesla, we need these 2 kind of people in the industry.3
So... Tesla is plating ads for game developers?
Am I applying for the job, and then spending 110% of the time making Doom run on that center console?
You bet your juicy ass I am!3
Apple's marketing department are just dictionary junkies.
Have you guys read some of the latest Apple quotes for their products? You know, the ones where you visit the page and there's some large bold text summarising the product? Here's a few:
HomePod: "The new sound of home."
If you talk over my Spotify music YOU WILL BECOME THE NEW SOUND OF MY SHED.
iPhone X: "Say hello to the future."
E.Musk put a Tesla in space. Also the future can crash with a single character.
MacOS: "Your Mac. Elevated."
If you fly away I WILL use you as birthday balloon.
iPad Pro: "Anything you can do, you can do better."
SOONER OR LATER *Comment what you would put here*
But I mean hey. It sells right.
Reading it back maybe I'm just blind hating.12
SuperCell is hiring.. Here is their job description:
We need a new Builder. Are you an independent and passionate maker? Do you love spending 24 hours a day turning wood and gold into walls and defensive buildings? Do you answer the call to build even if that call comes at 4:00 a.m. and you haven’t had a day off in literally five years? If the answer to these questions is “Yes! Yes! A million times yes!” then we have a hammer with your name on it!
The focus of the Builder is to, uh, build.
You will be responsible for taking instructions from the player and building whenever and wherever they see fit. They say build and you say...well, you don’t say anything, you just build.
The world of Clash of Clans can get intense. Our Builder is expected to build quickly and expertly at all times, even while under great amounts of stress and/or attacks from Barbarians, Archers, Goblins, Giants, Wall Breakers, Wizards, and P.E.K.K.A.s.
Equally as important as building is rebuilding. All of the things you build will inevitably be destroyed, if not immediately, then soon after you just finished building or rebuilding everything. You can’t let it get you down. You must maintain your resolve and rebuild. Fast!
Must be willing to relocate to the World of Clash
Must build and maintain a wide-range of buildings, statues, and war machines.
Must be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
Must have up-to-date Level 9 Tesla Tower maintenance certification
Must have proficiency with building materials both common (wood, stone, etc.) and uncommon (lightning, lava, etc.)
Must provide own leather helmet
Must possess a passion for building
Must be comfortable working hands-on with molten lava.
Must adhere to strict dress code (orange sleeveless shirt, brown canvas pants, and boots).
Must speak fluent Barbarian
How to Apply
Send us your qualifications via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or write out your qualifications and send them to us via Baby Dragon. Either format is accepted.4
Stephen hawking passed away today, one of the greatest scientists ever to live, the likes of Galileo, Tesla, Newton, and Einstein. I’m heartbroken.3
Tried mining ethereum today. Just wanted to check that out, for the heck of it. Fired off a p3.16xlarge instance on AWS, 4 x Tesla V100 running at $12 an hour! It was an absolute beast. Anyway, kept it running for 9 hours and earned about $5 before shutting it down. Cost me $108 to earn that $5. Had a lot of credits expiring in a couple of days, so I wanted to burn them off anyway.
So crypto mining, not easy money.7
For more than 20 years Google and Mozilla becoming our lifeline ❤️thank you @google @mozilla
I really don't get all the Musk fans. I mean, sure you can find some value in Tesla or SpaceX, sure you can think theses companies are truly innovating. But why give all the credit to the rich businessman who seems to spent more time promoting himself than really working on science stuff, and not to all the ingeneers and creatives who are really putting some hard work on every day ? All Musk is really doing is running a business. He seems to do that pretty well, agreed, but after all it's "just" that: business. He's not the genius, nor the creative. He has money and invests it well, that's all.
I don't get why so many people give all the credit to him, even here on devrant where it should be logical to find more people supporting the real brains behind the tech.
"He has a vision about the future, he's imaginative..."
- Well that's bullshit.
Once again: he has money, a lot, and a certain skill about how to invest it (and about doing some proper marketing too), which companies to buy, etc. That don't make him such a great visionary about the future of the human being, just a great businessman. I'm sure you can find millions of people around the world with better ideas about the future, but they're not in his position. They're not rich, they're not CEOs, they're mostly unknown.
Stop follow the stream by glorifying businessmen just because medias are talking lot about them. Instead, know where the real talent (and work) is. Give credit to Musk employees, not to him.105
Fucking facebook researcher that make underfitted neural nets and fuck Mark that it's a marketing genius, the only idiot that can make news from a failure. The CEO of Tesla knows it and said Mark is not an AI expert. Bug not feature, it's only a poorly trained and poorly designed neural network having a bad representation of concepts, not a new language and not the fucking apocalypse. Google faced and solved the same issue when start ed using neural nets for zero-shot translations without using english as a translation bridge.
Einstein supposedly has a quote attributed to him: "Perfection isn't achieved when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to remove."
I find that I aggressively refactor code where I can to only what is absolutely required. It does also have the knock on effect of reducing scope of bugs, when the code is smaller there's only so many places bugs can be.
Tesla claimed to have the ability to create designs in his head and only built things once he was satisfied that it worked in theory first, now it's rare I can do that, but I will use a repl to prototype or test modules in isolation before just hacking on the actual code.
Jobs, I mean, I know he didn't code but he was always insisting on designs that looked good and was generally uncompromising in his design centric view.
My friend, she was my Starbucks barista for a while but I've slowly been teaching her code and she's taught me a lot about how to teach others to code, she also happens to be my favourite student.3
Tesla is 3 months late delivering our power walls after their 9 month estimate and now we are going to lose power from this tropical storm! Uggg extension cords and a diesel generator it is. Since this is a small company the “Director of Technology” title is very inclusive, so guess who’s gotta deal with getting this stuff situated, yep, yours truly.3
When you make a Linux distro look as close to macOS as possible because you can’t afford a MacBook 😩14
I wonder what kind of website's people like DaVinci, Van Gogh, Tesla Einstein, etc. Would've had nowwadays4
"If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration."
If you want to understand your business, think in terms of customers, problems, and solutions.6
Hey, it's been a long time since my last post. In fact I didn't open the app for quite a long period of time. However, I recently became "active" (in my way) again.
I saw @dudeking 's post (https://devrant.com/rants/2210721/...) about cooling a raspberry and I remembered of something that I wanted to share. Yet, I thought it was better to make a post for it instead of just replying to his post.
TLDR: Hey i'm back and replying to @dudeking 's post
So, it's been quite some time now, but I've got a raspberry pi, and I needed some cooling for it. I do not own any USB fan so I managed with stuff I got in my house. Turns out I've got a fan, recovered long ago. However, it doesn't have any mount. I was speaking with dudes on discord who gave me an idea to mount the fan. (since I do not have machining tools to build a kind of housing for the raspberry pi.) They suggested making a LEGO "house" for that raspberry. It turned out to be a ficking great idea. So I built it, and it fits perfectly that fan. I added an arduino next to it to plug the fan and voilà le travail. (I could still destroy some kind of usb cable to plug in the fan directly, but maybe later)
Anyway, it is now a house for my random projects :b
(There's a discord bot hosted on this raspberry pi, whose username is Nikola Tesla, so I usually call it Tesla's house)
Always think to LEGOs ^^
There's probably still a huge box full of them in your place too ! (I guess)6
You know how it is, you are doing ok with your tatty made from salvaged spaceship dodging the pirates and doing a spot of mining.
When you start asking for advice..
How could I do things better ?
Well, everyone and their dog says what a rubbish setup you got and how you should get a top of the line model Tesla or something.
So, after much research about how much better those are, and listening to everyone else, you trade in your old model for a newer one..
Then you find out what a piece of junk it is !
It's 10 times more complicated to use, not really fun anymore..
It isn't quite as good, you worry it is going to break every time you park and bump the side of the parking bay..
Too late now, you traded in your old piece of junk that you loved..
It's just not the same..
It looks prettier I guess..
Perhaps that is a metaphor for relationships. :-)5
God bless.. wife is going to drive me around today with her new Tesla Model X P90D.. I'm genuinely terrified of her driving style lol.3
Just got a request to print the new Tesla truck.
I think it wasn't that hard for the Designer to implement the low pol. Design for the 3d print :')5
> lose weight
> get more than one client
> learn to drive and get a car
> try not to cry too much when I can’t afford the Tesla I want
> get my passport sorted and go on my first ever holiday (no joke).
Robbery of nearby future :
A broke dev decided to do a robbery by stealing the whole DAVE -2 system from the Tesla S3 model
While asking why he chose a drastic path as this, he said "My client wanted the training to be ready within 2 days and I couldn't arrange that much GPU in such small notice, so decided to do what I did.*ignored(But I reinstalled it back in the car)*
As you can see, client's have turned into money hungry, cock sucking, fist fucking, and God-knows-what-fetish wanting prices of shit"
Over to you, Clara3
Saw the Tesla self-driving capabilities? When Elon said he was looking for rockstar software engineers, he wasn't kidding.4
I'm convinced, I love my wife's brand new Tesla Model X P90D.. 5411 lbs blowing 0-60 in 3.17 seconds.. it's f*cking ludicrous.. no more petrol cars for me from now on!1
My ideal dev job is a job that requires to think about reality in a different way, a job that requires both programming skills and an open mind.
P.S. I should also earn enough money to buy a Tesla haha1
Its feels so damn good to know we live in a time where computation has become so damn cheap that Amazon gives away a Tesla configured system for around 2.5$ an hour ... Like seriously.. all this progress took it's time .. but still seems really fast .. well .. good for us .. no rant here 😂
OK, here are two questions I heard today in a TV quizz. I need you to answer them without looking up or reading the comments and tell me if the contestants in the TV quizz (who are lambda people, with an average IQ and education) have real education and general knowledge issues, or if these questions were really difficult for the layman, since they got them wrong.
I have a great interest in science and astronomy and to me they seem obvious. I cringe when people get them wrong, so I really need to know if it's normal to not know this kind of basic stuff or if there is a real problem her.
Here are the questions :
1) Elon Musk, in February 2018, launched a Tesla car in orbit around a star. Which star was it?
2) How many stars are there in the solar system?9
Apparently Tesla just sued the German Republic for retracting the bonus they payed some Tesla customers for buying an electric car, because the Model S was "too luxurious".
I can't even.... hahahaha1
Talk shit, close the door to the people who have faith on you, that’s how good CEO, a man with dream, follows first principle do!
This is how mafia works!👎5
hard choice guys help me out
AI development needed, but little to no resources, also should a use a gpu or a cpu for this calculations
tesla k70 gpu -
google cloud - $0.7/hr
aws - $0.9/hr but full support upfront if any device issues and device switch instantly
dwave 2000q - don't know because too extreme for medium to large scale apps, also it's a qauntum computer , prices might not be by an hour but by month/year3
There will come a day when a Tesla car will be so intelligent that it will short the Tesla stock right before crushing into a truck.3
How unprofessional is it when a professional car tow:er don't understand he needs to put the car in tow mode? (If you look on some tesla review videos, the "Tow mode" button is on the same screen as the neutral button)
He said: "Its too much computish, bananas" and had to call the Tesla support line.
LOL like a programmer that don't know any programming language.
