There is a couple at the table next to me in this café arguing about PowerShell and, even though it's Windows, I'm having a bit of a nerdgasm. 🤓4

Googles home mini has been recording everything and sending to googles servers because of a “bug”

So I'm sitting here working on an extremely extensive project, while eavesdropping a Skype call w/ the customer by our PM and they say that the feature I spent several days to develop *is just a link with some attributes*
I literally started raging (quietly) -
Eavesdropping by phone's microphone and speech recognition to serve targetted ads by Google? Anyone here had a feeling this happened to them or knows is this already a thing?
Happened to me on my Android phone multiple times over last year on different subjects, that I was talking live with a person, for example how someone had eyelid surgery (my phone was locked in my pocket the whole time and I didn't google search what that is, or made any text input into device whatsoever) and couple minutes later an ad came on my phone for exactly something we were discussing before. Weird coincedence or something more? 🤔9 -
Accidentally saying out loud "oh for fucks sake" when you overhear someone, talking on the phone, say "oh you're going to ask {Insert your name here} to do that" and you're already overloaded.

The day I read The Simulation Argument, by Nick Bostrom, a thought popped into my mind: "if we are made of code, maybe there are ways to hack life as you would hack some random program", I started thinking privilege escalation over the simulation, buffer overflow, picking signals as if I was eavesdropping... it was an epiphany and also fun10

Attending a virtual conference right now all the recruiter booths are just chatrooms which is super awkward because you are eavesdropping on other conversations. One guy went into all the rooms asking about H1 visa for I assume a family member with his video on and showing his extremely cluttered living room.
When I drop into one of the virtual booths two recruiters are talking about AI, one of the topics of the breakout sessions.
r1 - Whar is AI?
r2 - AI is creepy, like I was searching for rugs on ipad then was on my phone later and saw ads for rugs!!!! OMG so creepy! I am pretty sure this is AI.
No honey,
that is not AI.
My plan is to organize my books during this conference so at least I can win there.1 -
That's a little irritating and bemusing at the same time. About 24 hours ago I was involved in a discussion about DS on this very platform, and now my FB feed is full of DS ads. Not even verbally discussing the topic, just the posts here in DR. I'd be fascinated to know how they did that.2
