We have a customer that runs an extremely strict security program, which disallows any type of outside connection to their servers.
In order to even correspond with them via email you must undergo background checks and be validated. Then you sign an NDA and another "secrecy level" contract.

Today they had a problem, I was the one assigned to fix it. I asked for a screenshot.
We already use an encrypted mail service, which runs via a special VPN that has enough layers of protection to slow down a photon to the speed of a snail.
The customer's sysadmin encrypted the screenshot and sent it to me.

I open the screenshot and....
He runs Windows 10, uses Google Chrome and has Facebook's WhatsApp desktop app flashing orange in the tray.

IF ONLY DOCUMENTATION WAS IN ENGLISH

In the past I've seen documentation that is great, and documentation that is conspicuous by it's absence.
Over the last decade, I've noticed documentation is getting WORSE.
I believe the reason for this is that those tasked with creating documentation have become so accustomed to the jargon in their own heads that they have LOST THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH, and as a consequence simply don't bother.
New terms such as "ThingamyJig" are defined as "A Collection of ThingamyJigs" — so you end up going round in circles and get back to square one.
They make little or no effort to provide simple examples.
If only companies who create languages understood that those who wrote the language may not be the best people to write the documentation.

I love elementary os. Light weight and elegant. I do all my coding and developing in EOS. Current version Loki. Anyone else here using eOS?

A guy living next to my house came to me and told me to install Linux on their computer. Being a Linux lover, I was happy to see him switch. I installed Elementary OS Loki, installed nicest theme and conky I had. After tons of other tweaks and customization, I gave it to him, motherfucker told me this is not Linux and what he wanted. He wanted Kali, don't know what the fuck he was going to do with it. This piece of shit wasted my time,

And finally my favorite OS on my favorite laptop.

Had trouble in the past with wifi and straight up not booting.

But Loki fixes everything, except the screenshot button but ok fine. I can at least use linux normally. Till now I was using bash on windows and tbh it was good.

You crazies do whatever you have to do with your little "plan"... but if you mother fuckers take down my internet I will come out of this fucking basement with the rage of fucking Loki and it won't fucking matter to me what side you thought you were on.

Which linux distro are suited for programming, Elementary Os loki or else?

What the fuck is going on with elementary OS 0.4 Loki?!
Its the worst performing OS I have ever used:
* login ==> just shows desktop wallpaper, no icons, no dock, no keyboard inputs, no shit!
* installs updates in background ==> ne keyboard inputs, no reaction at all

Wtf did you guys do, when changing to unbuntu?!

So I just installed Elementary OS Loki on my older desktop and for that the wifi is incredibly slow, like 30 seconds to load googles home page. It also randomly stops working, and gives a no network connection. When this system was on windows I would average 50~ mb/s down speed, changing it to Linux I'm lucky to maintain 2mb/s. I've been googling for hours and nothing I try seems to work, any Linux pros here able to give me some suggestions. The network card in the PC is an Aetheros one, I it supports a,b,g,n and Bluetooth, I'm currently using the desktop with a Bluetooth mouse / kbd. (None of the hardware/setup has changed since using windows)

I use grafana loki and mimir/prometheus for telemetry. A few days ago I queried loki to see if logging is still working. Yesterday I changed the datasource to mimir, changed the query parameters to get metrics from another env, ran the query, and... Querier [mimir] crashed.

Wtf.
Error says it got too much data to chew on.

So I spend 4 hours playing with the querier and grpc limits, balancing between limit errors and OOMKills [2G ram].

I got suspicious about oomk. Why would it...

Then I tried to shrink the timeframe to 15min. Still oomk. Down to 5min -- now it worked. But the number of different metrics returned was over 1k

then I look once again at the query. And ofc it is ´{env="prod"}´

turns out, forgetting that you're querying metrics with a logs' query is an expensive and frustrating mistake. Esp. at 3am.

idk why it even returned me anything...

FOMO on technology is very frustrating.

i have a few freelance and hobby projects i maintain. mostly small laravel websites, go apis, etc ..

i used to get a 24$/ month droplet from digital ocean that has 4vCPUs and 8GB RAM

it was nore than enough for everything i did.

but from time to time i get a few potential clients that want huge infrastructure work on kubernetes with monitoring stacks etc...

and i dont feel capable because i am not using this on the daily, i haven't managed a full platform with monitoring and everything on k8s.

sure u can practice on minikube but u wont get to be exposed to the tiny details that come when deploying actual websites and trying to setup workflows and all that. from managing secrets to grafana and loki and Prometheus and all those.

so i ended up getting a k8s cluster on DO, and im paying 100$ a month for it and moving everything to it.

but what i hate is im paying out of pocket, and everything just requires so much resources!!!!

Anyone else using Elementary Loki? Is it just me who finds it better than the Mac experience?

I tried it on Virtualbox but apparently it doesn't like that very much. Files didn't have a search function, bit hard to customise.
I'm willing to try, everyone seems to be using it, I assume it shouldn't be that bad.

Loki Season 2
In the first episodes Loki finds himself working for what he believes is a good copy of the guy pictured at the end loki season 1 for the time authority.

He runs back into the female copy of himself who is also working at a time authority but the person running hers is one of the evil copies that wants to conquer everything.
