Search - "nexus 5"
It's here 😀 Now I can resume testing my projects peacefully on real device instead of that crashing Android emulator. I still miss my Nexus 6P.20
My trusty old Nexus 5 had a broken microphone for a long time (only worked on speaker phone) and a couple of weeks ago the display died as well. Yesterday, I decided that I can't afford a new one so I took it apart. After a while I had successfully repaired both the microphone and display with small pieces of tissue paper. I guess anything is possible when you're a stubborn problem solver!10
My wife's phone started having power button issues. Then it broke completely with spastic random presses, causing the phone to boot loop. It's a 3 year old Nexus 5 so I was mostly concerned with backing things up, not rescuing it.
Cleaning didn't work, tapping the switch didn't work. This hack worked.
Typical interaction in any XDA development thread:
User: How do I put these ROMs on my phone? Plz halp!
Me: ROOT -> flash RECOVERY -> enter recovery -> flash ROM -> flash Gapps -> profit.
User: How to get the roots? Can halp me?
Me: You're in a Nexus forum. There are directions on how to root everywhere.
User: I can't find. Plz halp.
Me: Fastboot oem unlock, fastboot flash recovery.img, flash SuperSU, flash ROM...
User: Where I can get fastboot?
Me: *link to Google developer's page*
User: Can you just tell me?
Me: No, you need to figure it out, so you know what you're doing.
*2 hours later*
User: HALP! I use toolkit for to get roots, and now phone won't come on! How to fix?! Halp, halp, halp!
*5 minutes later*
Time for some stats gathering! What mobile phone are DevRanters currently using? I've recently switched from iPhone 5 to Nexus 5X and I can surely say I'm not going back 😁60
God damn you UBports, I just want to tinker with the OS why can't you just release a generic image for virtualisation -.-
Instead I'm stuck hunting a Nexus 5 down... Ugh4
Wanted to jump back into UB Ports after my old Nexus 5 decided to leak battery acid everywhere .-.
Thought I would try and find another Nexus 5, apparently the only functional ones are going to cost me $300 AUD, that's a no go...
Ok let's look for a one plus one, better hardware and may be better to find anyway, nope not a single one plus one online....
Short things short, if anyone can find either of these phones for reasonable prices (AUD) you know who to contact .-.
(I've been searching for 2 hours now and have nothing)2
Well my nexus 5 showed up and got UBports installed on it.
Quite like the OS actually, yet to test it's desktop functionality but the only downside is the lack of developers, really suffers from the 'look at me! im an os too!' issue of there being almost nothing but web apps.
If you have a supported device I recommend giving it a shot, has a lot of good ideas!
They're all waiting in line to buy the new Iphone X while I'm sitting on my chair waiting for my brand new Nexus 5 to be delivered 🤗
So I was reassigned from Android to backend a month ago...
Meaning a poor lonely Nexus 5 was just sitting collecting dust...
Saturday night and what do I do?
Go out like a normal person?
*Laughs way too loud*
Nahhhh let's do a pwnie install and start snooping on neighbors!!!
Just got my new phone today. My old Huawei was acting up, so I replaced it with an island model: an Asus. Man, I have read lots and lots of horror stories about bloatware that came with the previous version of their skin, ZenUI. Their UX people must have been listening, because this phone came with fewer preinstalled apps than any phone I've ever had, and that includes a Nexus 5. And so far the only preinstalled apps I've had to disable are the default keyboard and chrome.
It's as close to AOSP as I've ever had without using a rom. I'm pretty stoked!
Nexus 5 almost caught fire because I vomited on it in my sleep whilst it was on charge.. my work colleagues found this Hilarious1
