I am strong technically, resourceful, with good analytical thinking, but I suck at comms. I lack patience and I struggle with communicating in a politcorrect business-friendly language when reaching out to other technical teams. I feel and behave as if they were all local folks, as if in a walking distance from my desk, when irl they [the client] may as well be on a diff continent
How can I improve? Anyone else had a similar problem? How did you overcome it?
Is this nuance going to be a problem in a career path past the senior chair?
What do you reckon?4 -
Backend devs (and yes, even full-stack folks) who naively dismiss the nuance of a frontend dev role have clearly never tried to do a really good job at it. Or, don't realize the fullness of the responsibilities, more like.
Frontend devs have to reconcile all the requirements (and sometimes whims) of the following people:
- End Users, obviously
- Desires of Business stakeholders
- Visual Designers
- UX (Yes, it's a different discipline from vis design)
- Fellow frontend devs
- Performance budgets
- Accessibility specialists
- Content Authors (if using a CMS)
And rarely are they ever ALL aligned. Some days, it feels less like development and more like brokering deals and compromises.5 -
I wish people expressed more nuance in their opinions. However, online social networks are often not built to encourage nuance, and I feel like most people take nuance for a lack of self-confidence which they take in turn for a lack of authority.11

According to the minister of external affair of Germany, the geneva convention is a "tiktok fad".
What a fucked up country seriously. We should "nuance" the bombing of civilians. Sure /s10 -
Goddammit Google, SWIPE to automate an email response? I AM NOT A COG IN YOUR MACHINATIONS.
I am human! Flesh and blood! You reduce me to some variable in your algorithm and you ignore the very nuance that separates me from your cold unfeeling advertising factory.1 -
I'm studying Python at the moment and I'm looking for some easy projects to do in order to gain hands on experience. After having written the code of a dice simulator for Risk!, I'm now thinking of a Twitter bot as my next project. Has anybody done it? Would you reccomend doing it?
Since joining devRant I've felt much more motivated to progress in learning Python and if it felt really rewarding to play Risk! without rolling the dice, it also thanks to you all. Sorry for ths cheesy nuance and for this not being a rant.3 -
needing to fix a bug that may be present in react/typescript when you don't know the tech stack
unsure if update to button broke the form
don't know nuance or difference between FormEvent vs synthetic events
test environments and local development environments broken

Why don't people understand nuance?
No, I don't have a foot fetish. Yes, I would suck Taylor Swift's toes if she asked6 -
"It’s not in the vulgar, it’s not in the shock that one finds art. And it’s not in the excessively beautiful. It’s in between; it’s in nuance." - Duane Michals
