Oh, you're studying something to do with computers? Here, fix my ancient laptop that has viruses from years of clicking the first download button I see. Oh, and here's $5.8

Hey all. So I'm a bit of an aspiring developer/engineer. I am in highschool right now and am getting to the point where I should start looking at colleges. Ive wanted to do something computer related and for a while now ive had my heart set on some sort of security engineer/tech/researcher what have you. But it has been pointed out to me that computer sciences often require several high level math courses namely Calc. Problem being I'm pretty bad at Calc and haven't been able to do too well.
I'm not too sure what I should do. I'm struggling with my highschool calc classes and and fear that college level course will just go over my head. Ive never had issues with math before until I got to Calc. Ive got some of the basics of cryptography such as hashes and cryptographic alorithms but thats about it. Do computer science degrees really rely that heavily on Calc?7 -
Have any devs found any interesting projects with a cars OBDII port. I've seen some arduino shields and libraries for it. Curious if anyone has any cool ideas.1

...ANnnnd that kids, is how I made a federal watch list, researching how to use credit card swiping systems and making thermite.3

Props to Apple for having a craptacular purchase system. There are unknown purchases on a person's account I'm looking at. Doesn't say what device it was purchased on, can't even find history of the apps purchased, but a subscription to a service is charged to the account. All of which supposedly isn't supposed to be there.1

So I have been recruited to do some IT ish work for a local business. I have been offered a couple of hundred bucks to take a set list of programs off of about 40 pcs. All windows. Sounds like the perfect job for a script, not my specialty. So what might be the best method? Using a batch script to CD to the respective directories and just DEL the folders for the target programs?5
-
So I found a thing. On my laptop, I am able to create a hotspot. So someone can connect to it and I can share my internet access. Couldn't I theoretically impersonate a wifi name, by setting up the hotspot to use the SSID of the target network, then the clients that already have access to the target network would feed me the network credentials? If so, how would I go about capturing the creds?12

So I had an epiphany. I have always thought of linux as a big ugly slow monstrosity. It occurred to me the only time I had used Linux was on rPis and similar devices. Then I threw vanilla Ubuntu onto a flash drive and booted my workstation to it.
My next point what is the most seamless dual boot solution. 😁

SOO.
I work at a grocery store, right. Cashier and all ya know, livin the dream. And whoever manages our product database. Needs to get thekr stuff together. We managed to confirm the DB isn't the same across the the registers. So now I have a bunch of stupid pictures of barcodes in my phone so I can make error reports for each and every single item that doesn't ring up. I know not ready dev related. But a dev somewhere is slacking5 -
Not really the place for this, I know. But I am a crypto coin guy. And I work with numerous coins. I was curious if anyone new of an app the could monitor all of your cryto-coin addresses and give you something of a portfolio value. I am capable of doing so manually but the prices flux a decent amount so it changes from day to day.6

That time I thought I crashed a prod server which I had no access to physically turn it back on. Turned out it was doing its weekly reboot. Scary 3 minutes.

New toy. However, I am at a dilemma. Do I keep its aesthetic nice and clean, or do I make it awesome with stickers. Also. Do I take off the intel and nvidia stickers to clean it up further. Decisions decisions.35

So funny thing, I had my stickers arrive, and they were on my desk in the ripped open envelope with the paper next to it. Me madre thought the ripped envelope was garbage and threw them away. And now my new laptop is very barren. Am I able to request new stickers? Pretty please5

Interesting thing. Ya know how when turning on your phones hotspot it has to verify that you are in fact allowed to use a hotspot. Well if you have Unlimited Data like myself, hotspotting is not allowed. HOWEVER, if you spam the hotspot button, it after several tries, gives up and lets you hotspot. THIS IS MY LITTLE TRICK. NO BUG BOUNTY. BESIDES, youd need my carrier.10

Maybe I'm not cut out to program. I have yet to write an entire program start to finish outside of tut sites and still have little idea as to what I'm doing.11

I'm trying to fins an application that can give me a ticker style news feed and pull prices off of poloniex.com. Poloniex does not natively provide an embedded RSS feed so that wouldn't work but I don't know what the other options.4

So I suck at scripts, windows scripts namely. I need a script to monitor a program on machine and send an email if it goes down. There are eight instances running on the machine and they can be determined to be working if a specific port is open, one port per instance. I have no clue where to start and I thought it could be done with some existing service or script. Suggestions?10

My little brother thought he'd have knife throwing practice into a tv box in my room. Just next to the box was my macbook. Long story short, it now has a hole punched into the screen.6

Whoever thought it was a good idea to put a 64 gb ssd in a laptop needs to rethink their decisions.5
-
I hate windows man. But I needs it for me games. I just wanted go set up my gaming rig to work double time as a nas. I set up a hostname and all for it but I can get it to be recognized by other device even on the same network.5

In highschool right now and I'm seriously interested in network and information security. I recently managed to work out possible internships at some top security firms based out of sweden. I am super stoked and am excited to see the pros work. Might be interesting.
