If I'm at the library.
And there are Ethernet ports.
Desktop computers are connected to it and working fine.
But when I try to unplug it and connect my laptop with it it's just doesn't work, as if it says there is no Ethernet connection at all.
What are some of the reasons for such thing?
Do I have to look up specific IP configuration and configure it on my laptop?
Do these windows domain system matter?
How can I get started figuring why it says it's that there's no connection in the first place?
The librarians know Jack shit about why it's not working.
And I can't find the technician contact address to ask him/her/them directly.
WiFi works fine, but slow, Ethernet connections has a gigabit connection. (I believe that should explain why I want to use that instead)3 -
New authentication system for a new type of login, I try to log in
Error everytime I try.
So I wait a little, like 10 min (the server is quite picky, thought it was it).
And then I try with another co-worker.
Login blocked.

I'm thinking of tattooing "reload the fucking debug-config you giant moron" on both of my arms and giving away all my long-sleeved shirts to charity to help me become a better programmer.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "MINI APP" AND NO, JUST BECAUSE YOU THREW A "MINI" IN FRONT OF IT, IT DOESN'T MAKE IT ANY EASIER TO DEVELOP3

I love Test-Driven Development!
And because of that fact, my heart shatters into thousands of pieces, when I recognize error events on our production nodes which are pointing onto a golden hammer function in a legacy project.
This particular function has about 300 lines with a bunch of subfunction calls and instantiations of helper-classes returning information for workflow.
Refactoring this code to apply proper unit-tests requires a way bigger investment than simply deal with 30 eventlogs a day, because this kind of payment is barely used by customers of our webshop.
This fact is a little itch each day of my work.
Guess it will make me go insane one day
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tomorrow I'll finally start working on a new part of my company's current project from scratch after loads of frustration in the past 1 1/2 months! Not a rant, just a lil bit of hope that it'll get better :)4

Finally got time to share my new laptop. I love its rgb backlight keyboard. I will buy a NVMe SSD and second monitor asap.6

Found an actual usage for light themes: bright sunny days when you have the opportunity to work outside. Unfortunately however, this much exposure to sunlight hurts the developer4

If I were the world dictator I would forbid JavaScript in web pages for a month, to teach shitty web developers a lesson.
Is it normal that to submit a form I have to use the developer console!? For fuck sake, I don't give a shit about your fancy scripts that only god knows what they're supposed to do. A simple <form> with an <input type="submit"> would do the job, holy fuck!
I'm so tired of those fucking broken scripts. Don't write JavaScript if you suck at it!3 -
Some dumb puns to cheer you up after reading/ranting about "part of your workflow you dislike"
#tower-of-pisa {
font-style: italic;

#titanic {
float: none;

.yomama {
width: 99999999px;
}
.ikea {
display: table;
}
#bigbang::before {

.illuminati {

visibility: hidden;
}
I'd rate these horrible puns a C++20 -
I built a tracking suite for our fleet of printers quite some time ago. Once a day, "bizteam" (aka sales) gets an alert detailing how many printers are in critical need of attention (out of paper, mechanical error, etc.), and how many of them are flat-out offline. They don't seem to care. I mean they do, I think? but. the offline percentage hasn't changed much in the past month or two.
These printers constitute a primary part of our business model and... screw it. they're goddamn important, okay?
A full 16% of our printers are OFFLINE. Most of those HAVE BEEN OFFLINE FOR 3 FUCKING MONTHS.
3% of our printers have been online BUT OUT OF PAPER FOR OVER A MONTH.
and what really baffles me...
We've convinced a few of these merchants to actually plug in their goddamn printers. (and yes, they actually *paid* for these things, and they're absolutely not cheap.) Some of those were previously both offline AND out of paper, yet after being plugged in, they're *STILL* OUT OF PAPER?! What the crap, people! It's a printer! it's not difficult! It's the same as every other fucking printer you have! and it's probably the same goddamn fucking model!
Did AlexDeLarge skullfuck your brain into mush? FIX YOUR SHIT!12 -
TL;DR: Why does that online shop NOT support paypal?
I'm a LITTLE pissed.
I wanted to buy some stuff online (since my gf birthday comes closer and I have no city, no car nearby to go shopping) - and this website doesn't support paypal. You know why? Because they had to high fees.
Why on earth don't they do it like any other online shop?! - the user can pay with paypal for a little more % or €.
I don't have an actual credit card but the thing you can get <18yo. Paypal works with it but I can't use any other payment option.13 -
Me: *programming*
Team: *furiously discussing something outside of my expertise*
Me: *programming*
Team: *finally acknowledging my existance* "Yeah, dude. We are going to delete te project and start over because we can't fix this issue [which we have never ever discussed with you]."
Me: "What, that's stupid."
Team: "Well, do you have any bright ideas to fix it?"
Me: "Gimme until tomorrow."
Me: *programming*
Team: *doing absolutly nothing*
Me: "I fixed it!"
Team: "Why didn't you do that a week ago?"
Me: "You didn't ask..."
And so goes te story of how i was almost killed by an angry mob.13
