Funniest thing I heard in my computer science class
P1: What's GitHub?
P2: It's like an IDE like Eclipse but an online version.6 -
I fucking hate people who think Eclipse is the only IDE out there for Java development, stop being so conservative and get out of the comfortable old rusty editor..!28
-
Client: "I need an Android app that does ______"
Me: "Ok, I'll start right away!"
Client: "Oh, and one more thing: I want it developed in eclipse"
Me: "Go away"10 -
(While there is also IntelliJ on the PC)
Teacher : "We're going to make JAVA, please open Eclipse"
Me : *Opens IntelliJ, get weird looks from friends and explains why it's good*5 -
What's wrong with this developer. I know at some point Eclipse was king, so you better stop playing with peoples emotions, lol 😅.7
-
Wish me luck, guys.
I'm launching Eclipse IDE while having a Chrome window open.
May the Gods of RAM be with me !8 -
Hi everyone, I'm new here but I liked the posts so I thought I'd chip in. Here's a picture of my home office.
I'm currently brushing up on SQL and Java in my internship while I await graduation at the end of the year. Java>C# IMO. C++ is my first love but nobody wants to hire for it anymore.
To everyone who's worked in Java, Eclipse or Intellij IDEA and why? (I mostly use Eclipse because the internship requires it).
I hope to have fun here, so please give me a warm welcome or a rant.22 -
"Type mismatch : cannot convert from Root<MyClassType> to Root<MyClassType>"
Ok Eclipse, I'm gonna make some coffee for you too.4 -
When you realize that you are in the third school year and still the half of the class prefers eclipse over intelliJ and think that git is useless.18

Me: Can I have PhpStorm please.
Company: Is it free?
Me: No, but it's the best php IDE out there. It's a huge productivity boost and also helps avoiding bugs while refactoring.
Company: Nope. Use Zend Studio 9.
Me: Why?
Company: We paid money for it like two years ago.
Me: <contemplating life and my decision to ever work there>
To whomever it may concern: Zend Studio is the commercial brother of Eclipse PDT, which also is one of the most shittiest idea out there. Almost as bad as Netbeans for php.
You have all the problems you had with eclipse, and none of the features of phpstorm. Zend Studio does not help you to get work done. It is a constant hindrance, everything you achieve you achieve despite its usage.19 -
One of my classmates asked me why we should use git, if we can put the eclipse workspace into Dropbox...19
-
I wish I started using intellj for java so much earlier.
I can't begin to explain my hatred for eclipse.10 -
Using Eclipse for java programming.
My program doesn't work... No errors, no warnings, the logic seems good.
A couple of hours of debugging later still nothing.
I close it and open it again, it works, thanks Eclipse.5 -
I just hate Eclipse with passion. Stopped using it when I couldn't even get it's package manager work without crashing it.11
-
I submitted a PR on Eclipse Che, filed ECA, etc. etc.
It's not my first contribution however, I've been working on their dockerfiles repo for a while.
...then they merge my shit without waiting for QA...
excuse me what the fuck2 -
The title doesn't promise too much: eclipse indeed has multiple problems. I've never seen this kind of "nested exception" before :-D4
-
The best feature in Intellij is the export to Eclipse. I fucking hate Eclipse but we have to submit our assignments as eclipse projects. Eclipse is the worst software i have ever seen. It even crashed in the same Moment as a classmate asked why i hated Eclipse.2
-
Eclipse is buggy they said.
Install NetBeans instead they said.
So this is the first impression :D11 -
Full time eclipse user, I just bought intellij idea and it blows my mind :D
Merry Christmas everyone4 -
me: deletes comment from pom file
eclipse: there is a problem...
me: refresh project manually
eclipse: ok.. its all good now.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯6 -
There is a hole in the world like a great black pit and it is filled with people who developed Eclipse.3
-
How intellij handles syntax errors while reformating code vs eclipse:
Intellij: I'm not sure what you want to do there, so I'll just make slight adjustments.
Eclipse: Yeah, I don't understand this so fuck your whole file. -
Apparently Eclipse is an indispensable tool for putting Zen in your coding!
Source: https://turnoff.us/geek/...3 -
Is it too much to ask for the dumb ass devs behind Eclipse to fucking let a FRESH install - no plugins yet, open without crashing?
is that even a thing?
Fuck you Eclipse, and companies that make me use this useless pile of shit!7 -
Pressed ctrl+z in eclipse after editing a file for about an hour and all my changes were undone.
*Slow claps*11 -
Worst CMS: Joomla.
Worst IDE: Eclipse.
Worst language: Python 2. (Python 3 brought many improvements to many annoyances there)8 -
1. talked to a dev and found out he never used git
2. saw a guy formatting the code in eclipse line by line, even when eclipse provides automatic formatting.2 -
It is incredible that we could see the Eclipse from Europe too :D
Wait, what do you mean this isn't the Eclipse everyone was talking about?!?10 -
We have a job offer for you, here are the details:

Friday Eve: Closing eclipse project happily at work. Everything works sorta fine.
Monday morning: Opening eclipse project again. Everything is like i left it. "Main class could not be found."
What the fuck eclipse?4 -
*opens Eclipse to do some dev work*
*Pressed Ctrl + Alt + down arrow to duplicate code*
*sees screen upside down*
Thank you Intel. I needed that...5 -
Software engineering course.
Professor wants to show us some Java code.
*Opens eclipse*
*Font super small*
Student: can you please increase the font size?
Professor: sure.
*Can't find the correct setting to do that*
Professor: does anyone know how to increase font size?
Some student at the back: copy the code to notepad++.
:/
Cool professor though..9 -
Follow up to my (ignorant) previous rant.
Context: Eclipse vs intelliJ
Situation: Was too comfortable with eclipse. knew shortcuts in the back of my palm. Loved the light theme. Argued with anyone who blindly believed IntelliJ is better than eclipse.
Action: Forced myself to try IntelliJ. Stepped out of my comfort zone. Got a one day code block. Changed to darcula. My eyes struggled to read. My fingers typed usual eclipse shortcuts to discover unknown windows.
Verdict: after two days of learning and not giving up. I have started loving IntelliJ and I know why.
Moral: change is good. Get out of your comfort zone ;)15 -
Had to download eclipse ide for a project
Latest release is called neon
Guess they ran out of cool planet names
😀3 -
Week#1: I love Eclipse. Its so cool
Week#2: I love sublime. It's so fast
Week#3: I love atom. It's an .....18 -
Eclipse, you lousy shit bitch of an ass hole - yeah I went there.
So I spent several hours today trying to get eclipse to:
1) just fucking launch without erroring out and crashing
2) actually work with a reasonable dark theme. (Yea right)
But no you hunk of shit, both of these seems nearly impossible for you. And just when I get you to work, the stupid fucking lack of syntax highlighting is just dreadful as fuck. If I didn’t have to use it for Salesforce development I sure as hell wouldn’t. -
A teacher where I used to study, thinks that there's teo types of Java:
Java NetBeans, and Java Eclipse.
Sime othe people there think that Java works only on Eclipse.
Some graduate students still use the marquee HTML tag, and encourage each other to use it.3 -
Don't you just love it when eclipse gives you these wonderfully informative error messages? Couldn't you at least say something?9

The debugging loop for Minecraft Spigot plugins on a 4GB RAM laptop:
1. Start Eclipse - 1'
2. Edit code.
3. Build plugins - 2'
4. Close Eclipse to make RAM room for Minecraft.
5. Upload plugins to server with FTP - 1'
6. Start server and launch Minecraft - 2'

8. Find bugs.
9. Stop the server, close Minecraft.

*Sigh*
Eclipse is such horrendous garbage, it somehow even manages to run like shit on an SSD.
Literally all my software runs smooth as butter on the SSD, even VS ffs. No, not Eclipse. Still hangs up constantly, fails to respond, takes ages to do things.
Incredible.9 -
Installed RAM 48.0 GB
Eclipse, Chrome if you ever show the slightest slowliness I'm deleting you forever!24 -
When you realise that you no longer interpret s3 as a smartphone model, fork as an eating tool, eclipse as natural phenomenon... :( :|2
-
Eclipse: Hey, I found a nice little update for you
Me: ok, install it
Eclipse: nope, I can't find it ...
AAAAAAAHHHH I'm gonna kill you !!!!!4 -
People like to shit on Java when it really wouldn't be so bad if Eclipse wasn't the 'default' Java IDE.
Seriously: Eclipse is garbage.9 -
So there was this girl who wanted to install Java and then eclipse on her PC. I guided her on phone. Told her first to download Java JDK. And then the Eclipse IDE. She installed eclipse and she was complaining that it wasn't working. Then I remembered that she had to create the Java environment. I guided her through that. She started complaining that she couldn't find the Java jdk folder. It took me a while and later I realized she never installed jdk. Just downloaded the jdk file. I'm like 😕5
-
Go to the office, start the computer, get some coffee, open up Eclipse...
Java.lang.NullPointerException
Fuck this shit.12 -
ffffffukcc you eclipse you god damn old piece of slow fuck, so many missing features after transitioning from intellij to eclipse, i want to fkig code in intellij but college forces us to use the god damn eclipse4
-
I only created a fucking class, a FUCKING EMPTY CLASS
Cancel button does nothing, obviously.
After 30 seconds or so, everything is back to normal. This shit reminds me of the "good old days" with Eclipse.
I hated Eclipse back then, and I fucking hate VS now13 -
Colleague: Let's see the luna(r) eclipse.
Me: But that was a while ago.
Colleague: No it is today. Let's go out and see.
Me: Out.!! But how could you run eclipse there?
Colleague: What??
Me: What..?? Oh...!!
*awkward silence*
All the while I was thinking why would a node dev require eclipse, when he could perfectly work with something like vscode. Feels so stupid. -
Employer uses IBM Software, which forces me to use Eclipse. I hate eclipse. Hate is a hard word. I'd never say, I really 'hate' a person. But eclipse, eclipse is what I hate. I can look at my smartwatch and see my heartrate rising, just thinking of how the fuck any developer on this crappy planet would ship that bullshit IDE. That saying, I'm totally fine with some bugs, using windows and so on, but eclipse... Is this a get-more-contributors strategy? Holy moly it really kills me. Hey, let's just open that maven Proj.. Oh, crash. Hey, let's install that "bug-free" version of the maven-integratio... Oh, crash. Let's do a global search over my worksp.. Oh, freezed. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! How can this be legal? I mean, seriously, most junoir devs I know, just use Eclipse, because they don't know of any other "better" IDE (VIM would be better, even notepad). Is there anyone sucking professors cocks / vaginas to get them introduce that crap IDE to students?2
-
make code change
stop server
try to re run server
dependency problems
java, tomcat, gradle , eclipse, just kill me, dont torture me like this1 -
Which one's your favourite IDE 😋?
Intellj vs Eclipse vs Netbeans vs Xcode vs other?😏
Mine is Intellij.23 -
Once had a teammate who added
// @formatter:off (eclipse)
at the beginning of nearly each class, to make sure my auto-format on save does not ruin his nice formatting
as i usually let eclipse take care of this, i commited unformatted code by mistake
so he formatted my code by hand1 -
My daily life with Eclipse. Story #0:
Me: browsing SVN repo with Eclipse (double fail, I know)
Eclipse: freezes
Me: waiting for ages
Me: killing eclipse
Repeated the process several times. Solution:
Me: browsing SVN repo with Eclipse (double fail, I know)
Eclipse: freezes
Me: hover over another view
Eclipse: isn't frozen anymore
Thanks for wasting my time ... -
>has idea for project (creating a watchface for my watch)
>downloads SDK
>finds out only Eclipse is supported
>Tries to go the CLI way
>Can't find a way to setup a new project without Eclipse
>Finds a boilerplate
>Gets random unexplainable, undocumented errors
>"Well, guess that's another idea that will not workout due to the incompetency of others"9 -
I often read articles describing developer epiphanies, where they realized, that it was not Eclipse at fault for a bad coding experience, but rather their lack of knowledge and lack of IDE optimization.
No. Just NO.
Eclipse is just horrendous garbage, nothing else. Here are some examples, where you can optimize Eclipse and your workflow all you like and still Eclipse demonstrates how bad of an IDE it is:
- There is a compilation error in the codebase. Eclipse knows this, as it marks the error. Yet in the Problems tab there is absolutely nothing. Not even after clean. Sometimes it logs errors in the problems tab, sometimes t doesn't. Why? Only the lord knows.
- Apart from the fact that navigating multiple Eclipse windows is plain laughable - why is it that to this day eclipse cannot properly manage windows on multi-desktop setups, e.g. via workspace settings? Example: Use 3 monitors, maximize Eclipse windows of one Eclipse instance on all three. Minimize. Then maximize. The windows are no longer maximized, but spread somehow over the monitors. After reboot it is even more laughable. Windows will be just randomly scrabled and stacked on top of each other. But the fact alone that you cannot navigate individual windows of one instance.. is this 2003?
- When you use a window with e.g. class code on a second monitor and your primary Eclipse window is on the first monitor, then some shortcuts won't trigger. E.g. attempting to select, then run a specific configuration via ALT+R, N, select via arrows, ALT+R won't work. Eclipse cannot deal with ALT+R, as it won't be able to focus the window, where the context menus are. One may think, this has to do with Eclipse requiring specific perspectives for specific shortcuts, as shortcuts are associated with perspectives - but no. Because the perspective for both windows is the same, namely Java. It is just that even though Shortcuts in Eclipse are perspective-bound, but they are also context-sensitive, meaning they require specific IDE inputs to work, regarldless of their perspective settings. Is that not provided, then the shortcut will do absolutely nothing and Eclipse won't tell you why.
- The fact alone that shortcut-workarounds are required to terminate launches, even though there is a button mapping this very functionality. Yes this is the only aspect in this list, where optimizing and adjusting the IDE solves the problem, because I can bind a shortcut for launch selection and then can reliably select ant trigger CTRL+F2. Despite that, how I need to first customize shortcuts and bind one that was not specified prior, just to achieve this most basic functionality - teminating a launch - is beyond me.
Eclipse is just overengineered and horrendous garbage. One could think it is being developed by people using Windows XP and a single 1024x768 desktop, as there is NO WAY these issues don't become apparent when regularily working with the IDE.9 -
Fuck you Eclipse! Fuck you OSGi! It is only you that pisses me off like that! You filthy piece o' shit!
Fuck.
FYI: Please stop pretending you cannot find org.eclipse out of a sudden. I know that it's there and you know that too! Why? Because you found it like 30 minutes ago before my break and nothing changed since then!!
Son of bitch! -
Very ranty
Very devy
Watch the eclipse! Starting soon
https://eclipse2017.twitter.com
P.S. I heard rumors that devs can control the eclipse by editting eclipse.css in Eclipse6 -
To not become too pessimistic, I have decided to say one good thing about Eclipse each day, but damn it's hard!5
-
Looking through job openings in case I get shafted so bad here I end up leaving, I see a nice sounding Java role and think "oohhh dis sounds good".
Required experience: Using the Eclipse IDE.
*closes page, cries* -
Today my boss granted the intellij Ultimate license. It's a good day.
(even though eclipse isn't that bad I like intellij more)1 -
>makes a bug report about the JS linter in Eclipse Che not working
> makes it a P2 bug (moderate severity)
> confirms in their current implementation it doesnt work
> escalates to P1 (high severity)
wow for once Eclipse is actually making their shit better -
I hate Eclipse.
I have the Student membership for a year but I can't use IntelliJ for my project because I HAVE to use Eclipse.
I'm around 80% - 90% done with my project, so I guess I won't have to deal with it much longer.3 -
Source : Reddit
P.s. Anyone had a look at today's eclipse ?
Here in Delhi, IN it's all cloudy and I can't see shit.4 -
Eclipse and it's fuckery!
Shows error/warning on random line. Don't know what's wrong, coz nothing is! Select all, cut and paste the selection on the same page and save again. Woof! Errors gone! Dafuq Eclipse? What sorcery is this bitch? -
Why does open source software has to look like shit? Is it part of the FOSS manifest? I'm looking at you eclipse, eclipse dark theme, keepass, ...9
-
open file in eclipse while server is running
i haven't made any code changes or saved anything
ECLIPSE: I GOTTA REBUILD4 -
So a question to all of the Java developers out there, am I the only one who can’t stand the idea of programming using eclipse or netbeans? I feel like Intellij idea is the best IDE that one can use8
-
Me: Gets my friends code and opens it on Eclipse to study it
Me: Sees code and tries to study it and actually understands it
Inner me: (OCD kicks in and realizes code is not formatted well)
Me: alt + shift + f
Code format changes
Me: how the fuck does this work now5 -
Guys...
I finally switched from eclipse to netbeans! *hurray*
But it was not easy...
Netbeans didnt want to import first, so i coded myself a little program that prints a complete config file for my project...
So that was done.
But the colors... So ugly.
So i changed them to my eclipse colors.
Finally, after 3 hours of configuration and getting to know how exporting works, I AM DONE!
EclipseUsers--;6 -
I need a new Laptop.
-AMD A8 processor 2,5ghz
- Windows 10 64 bit
-8gb ram
-1tb HDD
Etc..
Is this enough for programming, using eclipse and so on?16 -
I so want to switch from Eclipse to vscode. It feels so lightweight. But what makes me going back to eclipse everytime I try to switch to vscode are the little details.
why does the autocomplete popup close when moving the cursor left or right? In eclipse it just adapts the contents of the autocomplete content accordingly. Look at this issue to get what i mean: https://github.com/microsoft/...
And maybe vote for it too 😅3 -
was pretty excited to see the annular solar eclipse, pretty cloudy today, wish I could adjust the sun's z-index 😐

Toooooooooootal (IDE)Eclipse, it’s a toooootal (IDE)Eclipse, it’s a toooooootal (IDE)Eclipse of the !moon 🎶
Made this an afternoon after work (several months ago), listening to Klaus Nomi :33 -
The IDE discussion started again today. I am not an advocate of Eclipse but I didn’t find any compelling reason to switch to IntelliJ either. Maybe...just maybe I should try but that would mean just trying to be cool and I don’t know if it actually makes sense. So here’s how it went:
Me: okay give me one big reason why you want me to switch out of Eclipse.
Guy: slams desk and screams: Because Eclipse is slow! IntelliJ is fast and the community edition rocks
Me: in what way
Guy: oh come on. In every single way. I would rather choose notepad than Eclipse.
**curls into a ball and dies**2 -
I've refrained from commenting on which IDE is best and which isn't, what simply works for me is eclipse. So far it handles stuff for me pretty nicely... until today.
Look at this screenshot, can you spot the wtf? Like, SRSLY, WTF.... Might it really be just that DOT at the end or is it just the dot concatenated at the end of the error message?13 -
I was fine with Eclipse. Then everyone around me told me that Eclipse is old and IntelliJ is new and super cool and makes me super fast and much more productive. Finally in our company we got a Ultimate 2018 license and I started to use it. There is a function: import from Eclipse. Hey cool - let’s import and go... but no. After importing I needed one day to get that running. But I’m not really convinced. After that... ok let’s try another project where colleagues have used IntelliJ already. But after checking out - that also didn’t work well and I spent the whole day it running locally. Although it’s a maven project. Up to know I think Eclipse is better in handling Tomcat and better shows the version control state of files. And for me the workspace concept of Eclipse seems to be better than the project concept of IntelliJ. But maybe I just have to get a better understanding of IntelliJ. Hopefully I can do my first coding in IntelliJ tomorrow. Maybe then I can see all the benefits. So far...4
-
Everytime I see something based on Electron it reminds me about things based on Eclipse. And neither one of thoose two should see it as a compliment to be compared to the other.3
-
Took a day off and came back to find my team and I were moved from frontend to backend (which I always wanted to be).
Manager says we get to learn Java, Mongodb and even Hadoop.
I am so so excited.
But the only little hold back is, there is limited support for Java in sublime text and I should instead use eclipse. I had dozens of shortcuts customised with all those beautiful themes in sublime, but eclipse takes the fun out of coding(no offense to eclipse lovers).5 -
I upgraded eclipse with devStyle. The next time I started eclipse a quote showed up. I'll post it here 'cause I think it's totally true:
"Experience is the name everyone gives their mistakes".
It's so freakin' on point...1 -
wtf eclipse... fuck you
synchronize project in eclipse. no changes...
mvn relase:prepare
BUILD FAILED: you have local modifications pending...2 -
So I removed all the Eclipse crap from the repository (.settings, .project, etc), add those to the .gitignore, commit and push. The next thing happened is my co-worker found that broken his copy of the code as on Eclipse. That's expected. I told him it's justified to get rid of IDE specific stuff from the repo. All he needed is to set up the project again on his Eclipse.
...
...
...
And he didn't know how to do it.
...
...
...
I helped him out. Wasted 15 min. It shouldn't take that long if I did not try to explain along the way.
I feel like fixing printer.5 -
Eclipse with ADT. Never again. I'm so glad Google and JetBrains have put together a really great environment for Android development.
-
Using eclipse after a long while on a work laptop and this fucking piece of shit console window popping the fuck up and my cursor auto switching to it is the fucking shit design of a fucking lunatic from the fourteenth circle of hell, where the eternal punishment in addition to being roasted alive, probably includes being forced to fucking use eclipse.
Did I mention fuck eclipse? Fuck, I don't even care if I did. Fuck eclipse again.
Oh and to add on, if you're thinking of making the very useful suggestion that it's very easy to turn off window focus with just two buttons, then fuck you and the guy who designed that shitty UI fucking button.3 -
That awkward moment when you forget every goddamn shortcut in eclipse after having spent two years on IntelliJ!1
-
While everyone is going crazy over Eclipse today, please remember there are other IDEs also.
#EclipseToday1 -
Who the fuck thought java development is okay on a VDI ! Eclipse runs shit even on local environment and running it on a vm located in a different country with 3gb of vram?
You want to do a file search? Wait for 5mins
You want to. Build via gradle. Wait for 15 min
Fucking idiots.1 -
I have been discussing for quite a while now in a WhatsApp group what IDE is better, IntelliJ vs Eclipse. I personally prefer IntelliJ, for a lot of reasons. But what is your opinion, what are the pros/cons of each IDE for you?12
-
So my computer crashed while I was coding in eclipse. I turn it on and the class I was working on is absolutely empty, only one empty line
It wasn't a big class, but that still hurts2 -
I am trying to install eclipse for college
Windows defender blocked it because it found malware virus in it
Disabled windows defender
Waste my time to download again
Kaspersky blocked it because it found multiple trojans
Kaspersky saved my computer over 30 times from real damaging viruses
Disable kaspersky too
Waste my time squared download eclipse again
Open eclipse
Import tomcat v8
Eclipse crashes4 -

Moving from Eclipse to IntelliJ. Looks good so far with the dark theme, but I miss the hands-on feel of Eclipse. Which do y'all prefer for Java?17 -
Just realized HD(1366x768) screen is too small, and Eclipse UI too big.
Maybe it's time to buy a laptop!6 -
Fucking Eclipse at it again.
Colleague was setting up their IDE for working with the ABAP R/3 backend, we use. To speed up the process, colleague A is sending the zipped plugins folder to the new colleague B and telling them to put them into the directory of where eclipse is stored.
Like a good and neat person, B renamed the folder plugins into plugins _old and unzipped the other folder in there. Clicked on eclipse and nothing worked, Error message immediately.
B then proceeded to tell A that it didn't work. A then asked "how did you copy the stuff in there?", and B said that they backed up the original and put the new one in there (mind you, technically that should work, because the eclipse versions were pretty close to eachother, only like a few patches apart).
And then A said, "No No No, you need to just overwrite it."
So that's what B did. Okay so original plugins folder has been overwritten with the sent plugins folder. B clicks eclipse.
Eclipse starts, and shows loading screen.
For like 5 minutes.
Then crashes with sone random error message.
B asks A what's going on, and what cracked me up was, that A just said: "Yeah, it's supposed to crash, just restart it".
So B clicked it again, it launched for another like 5 Minutes and then opened normally, with everything where it should be.
B asks then, if that's normal, and the other devs in the call replied "Yeah, we did it like that too"
ngl, that was one of the funnier teams meetings i had in a while7 -
Can anyone transitioned from eclipse adb to android studio actually work with the damn studio?
The eclipse plugin was one hella glitchy but working with it was easy and clear. The Studio makes every fucking simple thing to science.😅5 -
I thought I wouldn't be seeing the eclipse yesterday.
Sike, my company makes me use eclipse. Woe of me, I love intelliJ -
In Java, I use dummy variables to set breakpoints and get around the return unreachable compiler/Eclipse check2
-
All I did was press Ctrl + Shift + O & Ctrl + Shift + F on the eclipse package manager, just before commit. It ended up changing 122 files with 12640 additions and 13916 deletions...
Somewhere within these files are my actual changes which need to be committed...
I am not leaving work at least for today !!!2 -
I freaking hate slow IDEs, especially ones made in Java.
I used to use an IDE/text editor called geany, and it was great, you could do almost every language in it and it worked great. It was fast, and efficient, it was a no-nonsense editor. That was when I was a kid, but I got in univ and got a job, so I had to start using big boy """""enterprise""""" IDEs like eclipse.
Eclipse, netbeans, and intellij (basically every Java based IDE except BlueJ) are exactly what is wrong with IDEs. They are clunky editors that frankly would be better off gone. They are slow, eat RAM like crazy (like most Java software). You just CANNOT have eclipse open for extended periods of time, because it WILL take up too much resources and get slow as heck. Android Studio (based on intellij) is a nightmare to work with. It just does not want to cooperate with you (I will agree they have improved a lot though).
I cannot believe I am saying this, but even the electron based IDEs like atom and code-oss are better than them. They are very easily expandable, something that Java was supposed to be, but is not. They have tons of plugins. Even if its not there, you can make one without having to spend a lifetime making the plugin! They look good. I never thought that going from IDEs with """""enterprise""""" UIs to something modern like code-oss would feel this great. Its ridiculous, I don't want to create a darn project for every single file that I want to edit, I just want syntax highlighting for a single .sh file that I want to edit right now. A project is just a way to logically define what is one "unit" or a "container for multiple files", you know what else is that? A simple directory.
Also I don't want 9 billion .xml files for the IDE to store its crap. Just make a .vscode like folder to hide your shit.11 -
I used to be proud of my skills using eclipse IDE, then I decided to try IDEA. No regrets, but after 3 months I still not mastered the new key mapping and totally forgot the eclipse one. Now I have no reason to change back at all xD1
-
Eclipse you slow sack of shit I can't even try to twiddle settings to stop you from trying to link viewer selection with current editor and then I find out in already in flat package displaying mode.1
-
eclipse is just shit. Had to help a friend with his eclipse installation, crashed every hour or so. Frickin shit. Never had such problems with IntelliJ. This whole program is shit. Not the first time such weird stuff is happening with eclipse4
-
Why many students use bluej while eclipse is far better?
I want to be a programmer so, in future probably I will join any college or something.
So, I want to know what is special in bluej That eclipse can't fulfill?5 -
IBMs Rational Team Concert.
Whole the VCS is okay for a semi-centralized one, the client was based on eclipse.
Who in a bright mind could possibly think that writing the client as an eclipse plugin is a good idea?2 -
Man I seriously hate my Eclipse, started ok out of the box, but holy fuck It's become slow. Want to place a breakpoint in your big ass project that is not even running? Got your back, just give me 10 seconds, what? you renamed a local variable? let me just check the full project and rebuild the workspace again.
I would switch but since we are using Jboss and any modern IDE requires the premium version to support Jboss and management wont pay the license I'am stuck.3 -
Good morning devRant.
Here's a good question. What is the worst tool you've tried that was recommended to you? Could be a text editor, IDE, STACK setup, etc.
For me that tool was Eclipse with JavaEE. Not Spring/Hibernate or Maven, but specifically JavaEE in Eclipse. I probably lost over 2 1/2hours configuring that beast to work and it would still break every half hour or so. Drove me crazy enough to switch to IntelliJ. It's one of the rare cases where a free application just wasn't as good as a paid for application. :/10 -
So I started my new job yesterday. My manager seems like a nice person & co-workers too.
Meanwhile I found out they use Eclipse and SVN. I've been learning and using git. Now gotta learn subversion. Oh and all Java development I did was on Netbeans.
I'm learning Swift (3) and I saw few projects in objective-C.
Man they must really be seeing something in me.
I'm hoping Eclipse and SVN isn't as bad. Reading rants here makes it seem pretty bad lol.
I'm excited to learn though, gotta dive right in.3 -
Eclipse deleting my entire project, roughly few thousand LOC and a lot of assets. (Probably my silly mistake, though I don't know what I did)
Good thing I had a half a week old back up2 -
Are there any JavaScripts dev out there using Eclipse (excluding students who are being forced)?
Is this actually a thing in 2019?
I'm being asked to run a JS seminar with Eclipse as the IDE. I've not seen this used in a JS shop for ages. Are there significant pockets of use out there that I'm unaware of?3 -
I hit a new low today, managed to blue screen my machine from eclipse..... How the f- did I manage that?!
-
That Feeling when Eclipse removes Maven dependencies, put his compiler and Build Path to Java 5 when you're with Java 8, and cookies aren't good since it's not yours.
Yay for git -
First day of intro to oop class, have to use eclipse, change theme to dark and make console parallel to editor.
Professor comes by and asked if it was eclipse... Yes?
Everyone is looking at my monitor like I'm a fucking magician.
Y'all basic af!2 -
Biggest life saving difference between eclipse and IntelliJ . I don't need to do cltr + s in IntelliJ but in eclipse I need to keep saving changes .
I have lost lot of changes when working with eclipse .2 -
Do you use any other IDEs as Android Studio or Eclipse? I dont wanna use Eclipse and AS is to buggy :(. I only search an good ide for Android dev (using java)13
-
So anyone excited to watch out the lunar eclipse.
I am ready but the weather is pretty much fucked up. Any ranter who is able to see it please share your experience.
And as for time being,I will just continue to pray for sky to get clear.3 -
Working in an open space environment.. why not discussing as louder as you can about "why eclipse doesn't show the list of classes which implements the interface X"!!
-
Why eclipse?
Why did you think that implementing git yourself was a good idea?
Why? Fucking why?
Now when I switch to my development branch and it's a few commits behind I get lock fails when I fetch. And when I pull?
I'm fucking 32 commits in front of the branch? Like what the Fuck eclipse?
How can you pull those commits from the repo without fetching?
... I use the command like now.3 -
Translating the instructions for Eclipse Java EE development into Intellij because I refuse to work with Eclipse.4
-
When eclipse decides not to remember to search for "selected resources" and defaults to "workbench" option and then proceeds to search the whole damned workspace for some common shit that you only wanted to search for in one folder. God dammit
-
"it should just work" - one of my tech leads in reference to setting up eclipse for development
i dont want to use eclipse to begin with but its what the monolith we work on works well on, its so awful that it intellij cant necessarily handle it9 -
Is anyone out there actually using Eclipse PDE/OSGi or e4 DI?
Everytime I ran into a problem and actually want to see if anyone out there has a similar problem the Internet returns just lots of emptiness - I'm disappointed like hell.
Damnit - finally I had to rant for the first time. Grrr. -
Teacher: "Please extract the super class"
Me: *I don´t even know how to open a project in eclipse*2 -
When Eclipse releases a powerfull Project configuration tool with not a single line of helpfull comments and I have to pleasure to add Features for my Company ....6
-
Never again will I use eclipses egit extension. First eclipse thought that my plain text java source code should be encoded in some bizarre occult way which made eclipse think its binary what made me try pretty much anything one can do with a .gitattributes file before a colleague suggested to not trust eclipse eith the encoding it was explicitly told to use, then I fetched another branch to merge them which somehow killed my .project file and forced me to delete and refetch the whole thing which led to eclipse not longer recognizing it as a java project. May it be because I'm to stupid to use my tools? Yeah, probably. But I'm done with egit, it's all console gitting from now on, fuck suggested practice.
-
When I first use Android Studio, it was a very well built beta, I thought it was production ready. I just used eclipse for my new aws project. I thought eclipse is in beta....I want to stay away from eclipse, I'm asking for help here. Language: Java7
-
How is eclipse doing these days? I got frustrated with it 5 years ago and started using IntelliJ. Is it worth giving it one more try?4
-
I am the only front end developer in my team, used to be 2, and there is 4 java backend dev. We are all Seniors, so you'd expect to be experienced. I like my code to be "nice" and I am using linting tools, rules, formatting etc... (I do JS mainly).
During a scrum review some of the java guys showed some code on the screen and that thing was a monstrosity for me! I could not look at some code like that, if I had to work with that I'd probably hang myself. Nothing was aligned, no consistency. So my question: you guys aren't using any guidelines to have cleaner code ? How do you make sure you all code the same ?
...
What are you taking about ? We use Eclipse, with default options, no tools no guidelines...1 -
I am thinking about quiting my job. The version of Eclipse my company is using has a bug for dark themes when highlighting a repeated word... it has the same color as the background...2
-
Recruiter:
1st question: How many years of experience do you have in Java?
2nd question: How many years of experience do you have in Eclipse?4 -
Maybe someone can help me.
Guys my team uses a master catalog to configure products in CRM application.
The master catalog is a "hidden Eclipse", it has the same interface. But this application has really problems with performance, is too slow.... It usues only 500mb of ram per users.
I try to find a configuration properties but nothing...
Do you have any idea?
(Is like the "Smart Insert" as the image attached btw)5 -
I hate eclipse due to the performance issue... switching perspectives, just everything seems too slow.
Love sublime and it’s speed, and simplicity, as well as vim ..of eclipse had the editor of vim... with key bindings of vim... speed of sublime or vim...but the ilitellisense of eclipse or visual studio ..and the ability to properly change the theme/color scheme of the entire environment without issues of contrast with certain plugs in...
I think eclipse would actually be great if someone did that... or same with Visual studio ...6 -
Minecraft. I ran it in Eclipse debug mode and started messing around with the code without knowing a thing about java.
-
They need to add a new definition of Eclipse to all dictionaries.
Taking away the light and joy of development out of the process.
Synonyms: impossible, waste of time, wishing for Friday.1 -
So I have to endure Java Programming lab once a week.
The computers in the lab have Windows XP.
You're not allowed to install additional software.
There's eclipse installed.
But no. You cannot use eclipse. You are FORCED to use J FUCKING GRASP.
WHAT SORT OF DERANGED TEACHER WOULD USE SUCH A DISGRACE OF AN IDE?????1 -
Sublime text. Just last week I had to implement Java batch with 60+ vars. Without sublime text to edit multiple lines to handle these vars I would go crazy.
The project I work is in eclipse, I think IntelliJ is good to edit multiple lines but eclipse is not very good.3 -
Using eclipse, I type in one character on the editor
Eclipse: "Waiting user operation" *hangs for a whole minute*
----
This is the same version I use every day, same workspace, and otherwise it usually works well!3 -
i do nothing special or different
gradle & eclipse: those dependencies which were literally just working are now fucked up, please fix me5 -
This is influenced by my current situation but best tool: Visual Studio. Versatile and rich debugger, good language integration for what I do. Worst tool: eclipse. What the fuck is this permacrashing nightmare of an application. And what the actual fuck are these keybinds.1
-
Eclipse's save as image file is so bad that it even eats up the letters from source and target after exporting.
-
Which Idea was it to combine C, C++ and Java in one big fucking Project. And who thought that it was a Good Idea to use Eclipse C++ for developing with Java. If the whole Project would have been in Java I could have used the auto Import feature from Eclipse, but if Eclipse doesn't Know that the Java Files are Java Files it doesn't fucking work. So I just had to spent a whole fucking Day compiling the Projects with Maven so that I can write around 100 Lines of Import...
And the best Thing is, a few Weeks ago the Imports existed so a fucking asshole just erased them when he tried to optimize these...
Sometimes I hate this company -
Why can't Eclipse save non-project-specific customisations somewhere centrally? Why do I have to customise my editor fonts, colours and hotkeys again every time I open up a new work space? Why would they think I could want different editor fonts, colours and hotkeys on every different project I work on?
I so hate Eclipse!
I so hate IDEs!4 -
Why does maven for eclipse not do what I want? Am I just doing it wrong, or is it too complicated to get an executable jar with all dependency plugins packaged, where no alert like "main class not found" will pop up at execution?!?
-
So last weekend I started digging into openhab2 and tried to integrate my Philips Hue lamps with the help of "Eclipse Smarthome Designer". But they refused to work. I checked the error log of openhab, I double checked my code then the tutorials then the official documentation. I did everything as described. After hours of try and error I tried to switch off the lamps with my openhab android app and bang it worked! Turns out: the integrated web browser of eclipse Smarthome Designer was sending broken data to openhab and the official apps did not...

Web-project on Eclipse EE:
Project1 : all goes in the right way.
Project2 : JRE System Library doesn't exist.
Dear eclipse/jdk/jre (whoever you are) what's wrong with you?
P.s. i only added a file in both projects.1 -
What's wrong with Eclipse? It give me errors without any actual error. I do restart everything works.
Sometimes I have to clean the project to remove errors.
Or am I doing something wrong?
Previously I have worked only in vim because my projects were small. I am not feeling good with Eclipse.5 -
I start to learn Java in university. They are using Eclipse but I want to use IntelliJ and we are also allowed to do it...
IntelliJ looks a little bit overloaded at a first glance but I like Jetbrains...
Would you use Eclipse or IntelliJ?8 -
I hate using Window Builder in Eclipse for Java's GUI.
Is there something that works better? Window Builder constrains just stop working properly for some reason...1 -
I hope I never again have the misfortune of having to get projects for Eclipse-based IDEs building in an automated headless way.
-
so FUCKING GREAT when you work on a git project in eclipse...🙄
git bash shows only 1 file that I've edited, eclipse ... shows a whole bunch of files that are even commited and pushed a long time ago. WTF??🤪19 -
Does anybody know how to configure eclipse to run in same way as vs code remote( I am kind fan of it) runs?
I tried remote option in eclipse i.e RSE but it looks more like file BROWSER than remote development .
FYI, I have a multi module maven/grade projects. I know I can use vs code for that as well but due to some limitations I want to use eclipse. I have a windows host and have to do development in vm or ec2 and I want to avoid booting in GUI mode.
If it's possible and you know a document which can help me or share the steps with me, it 2ould be very helpful.6 -
The top reason was probably the people I surrounded myself with. I always loved computers and, as a result always joined cool tech-based clubs when I heard about them. The teachers there were also Devs and could do some awesome things with the code they wrote.
Hence me downloading eclipse and everything after... -
Have you ever used Hibernate Tools for reverse engineering a database? Seems to work only on eclipse. Do you know of a process to configure eclipse to do what it's supposed to in a finite and predictable number of steps? Or the only way is an unpredictable trial and error process in which everythime a component is updated the stack stops working?
-
I just had a dream where I was running Linux and after installing Eclipse, some ransomware virus took over my SO.
Guess I really was tired as fuck2 -
The moment in which you try to use code-assist outside eclipse
...and the disappointment that came out. -
I fucking hate HP UFT a test "IDE" that needs to be tested itself..before thinking of selling it to organizations to help them test their software..awfull crash crappy bitch ass tool I just hate it and what's even worse is that I'm using it to test an eclipse rcp application...feeling a bit better now.
-
How anyone can say "the darkest dark" theme on eclipse (windows) is useable blows my mind.... This is horrible
-
For weeks the excitement had been going about the Eclipse, I guess because they don't know what it is like... I had the luck for one project, I don't think I want to see it again... 😧🙃😏
-
Learning Spring at the moment... The autowiring thing gives me a lot of WTF moments but I think that's why people love it. Can't find any good tutorial explaining what's under the hood either.
And I don't know why I just have this great idea of "let me make it harder" by switching to IntelliJ from Eclipse at the same time. As if it's not bad enough that I need to produce something useful within a short time...1 -
when you haven't touched or changed your eclipse environment variables
but eclipse decides fuck it, can't fucking find em , get a separate unrelated error -
Anyone have project which is based on "colleges management system"
Want to perform on eclipse only... based on Core java1 -
I've been working on a project which has been understaffed (from the beginning, now I know).
All the newly hired guys, who are more experienced than me (in terms of how many years of work experience), use Eclipse.
I use IntelliJ.
I don't think I can make them switch to IntelliJ.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how frustrated should I be?8
