Just spent 15 mins trying to figure out how to close the copilot chat window in vscode, to close it you have to slide it until the width reaches 0.
Talk about shitty user experience5 -
Well, shit is kinda hitting the fan literally.
Two of my four clients are closing down, and it all happened in a month.
Not really fearing for job security, but now I've scheduled an interview with nVidia that I dismissed two years ago. Let's see how it goes.5 -
We are in AI era but screen readers and softwares for disabled people are still immensely retarded, so we still have to do accessibility by hand, now enforced by EU.21

funny how linkedin lunatics compare "not taking job due to multiple offers" to "not giving a job after giving a job offer"
this may seem similar, but on one side there's a company, with running operations and having multiple employees to take up on the work load of the leaving employee. even if some guy backed out on an offer, they still have employees and can continue their search.
but on other side their is an employee serving 60-90 days notice period. he/she have put a notice period due to a job guarantee and is out of livelihood if offer is rescinded3 -
why I say FUCK AI -
-> So much stupidity with "It will replace devs". Any dev who has more than 2 brain cells has had their issues with ChatGPT or AI knows that AI is not sufficient nor good enough to get even basic tasks done.
-> "It will be good in 5 years" - well then, talk to me after 5 years. I'm not buying a product or an idea on a "promise". I judge the tech for what it is today, not on what it can be in 5 years.
-> "Just trust me bro" - I see influencers suck that robot dick, but no explanations are given. What they say sounds to me like it's parroted off of general mass media. Nothing new to add nor any insight.
-> AI has issues that nobody seems to talk about. Hallucinations being the biggest of them all. ChatGPT tells you something, and you're supposed to take it as fact? That's too dangerous for a normal person.
-> Junior software developers are scared even to this day that AI can replace them. If they can't think for themselves, it falls upon us (or at least, me) to drive them in the correct direction or give them real opinions on what it is.30 -
Realising how fucked and broken python's type system is because none of the type checkers have implemented it correctly.2

The quality you perceive your code to be 6 months after writing it is inversely proportional to the quality you perceived it to be when you wrote it.10

A good boss gives you a few clear instructions and then doesn't meddle in your work.
A great boss does that, and also spends most of their time protecting the team from corporate fuckery.
99% of all bosses, though? You can't make heads or tails of their blabber, and the only way they can handle problems is throwing their team under the bus.4 -
I love designing and developing software but man, I envy blue collar people sometimes. I know their jobs are hard but working with your hands and working 9 to 5 and then live your life from 5 to 9 is awesome..
Especially considering that in Europe, I have 14 years of experience and make maybe 10k more than my blue collar friends after tax. If it was just for the work-money ratio I'd become a carpenter..
But over all... 🎶I shoulda been a cowboy 🎶8 -
It’s crazy that banks don’t have the technology to provide properly redacted bank statements. Will have to remove the labels of 13 pages of transactions by hand.1

My biggest coding motivator is "this thing I'm using is crappy let's replace it" and that's why I have so many unfinished projects.17

how to be a shitty client:
- have a legacy database where column names are misspelled and everything is nullable
- hire external help which instead of helping break the ui (bonus points for breaking the api too)
- demand a very much custom auth logic but decide to use aws cognito for shits and giggles
- demand 1hr daily meetings
- demand biometric auth with 0 knowledge of how biometric auth works (the previous devs just had a face id prompt which does nothing and retrieved email and password saved on the device???)
- message me at 2am because you don't understand how timezones work + demand a build while you're at it
- call me a "heretical pagan" because i took a day off on a holiday you don't celebrate (???)
i could go on but i think this is enough11 -
My evening: going from 8e-5 seconds to 1.4e-5 seconds.
I'm pretty happy. I'm now 3x faster than the next fastest library available.19 -
We have a cron job. We have alerts to monitor the cron job. We also have a monthly task to check the above are working.
Why? I wrote the first 2 so as far as I'm concerned, I'm going to tick yes on the last.6 -
tomorrow, my mom has heart surgery. thats one of the most serious surgeries to exist. i hope and pray the advancement of medicine and technology has improved well enough for the results to be ok 🙏6
