Today the version that those monsters call stable, decided to not render UI text (canvas) in a project I had to upgrade from an older version.

But it performs this practical joke (that stable software must do) only in the fucking editor.

How am I making sure that the text aligns? Ah, just moving the anchor positions, changing the font size, binary fucking searching for the right position for alignment by moving n pixels at a time, and exporting a webgl build and running it to make sure it's aligned

I'm currently the only dev that works with a client's dev team. That's not really how we usually work, usually it's a whole team of ours.

Three aspects why this sucks:

1) the client's dev team is made up of juniors and junior to intermediate devs. All of them are new to scrum. I therefore have to constantly support (dev & agile workflow), check all the PRs and have to think of everything in Refinement meetings.

2) the client's based in another timezone and the PO is super busy because we're the only agile team in their company. Therefore this is going to be the third Friday in a row where I have meetings until 6pm.

3) I also have a specific time frame I have to start working for my company, so I constantly work extra hours due to the time difference.

I'm just tired.

Trying to fix an urgent issue with our Xamarin iOS app and a known bug in Xamarin "IOException: Sharing violation on path /Assets.xcassets/AppIcon.appiconset/Icon-1024.png" is blocking me.

Luckily I still have my old laptop from my last upgrade on standby, boot it up and it's not using the affected version of Xamarin. 😃

Instead this one has the also know "/ios/release/mono/mini/mini-arm64.c:5439, condition `native_offset % 4 == 0' not met" blocking issue when debugging. 🤦‍♂️

I work for a company known for its unbelievable perks and benefits. Every time a job opens up, we get thousands of applications.

Candidates are becoming increasingly aggressive to stand out. Hundreds of them (literally) have purchased Facebook ads or LinkedIn promoted posts to get their information in front of current employees.

Others have taken to outright stalking our employees. I freelance occasionally and have a separate website for my freelance business. I receive dozens of calls and emails to my freelance number and email account daily from people who want to “chat about the open position.”

My husband — who has a different last name — runs a small retail shop. He’s had people come into his store and tell him that they did internet sleuthing and found out he was married to an employee of my company, and would he please pass on their resume?

I expect to get these messages on my LinkedIn or company email, but am I wrong in thinking that stalking me out and trying to contact me via personal contact info (or my husband) is way out of line?

Is there a way to sharply tell them that this is not okay? Normally, I just don’t respond, but I have to turn my phone off or it rings all day and it’s really annoying. Would it look weird to put a message on my freelance website that says do not contact me about Company X jobs?

My company is aware of this problem, and has said to forward the names of aggressive or alarming candidates their way to remove them from consideration, but it’s so common, I’m thinking this is a product of being told that if they just showed GUMPTION, they’d get the job. I feel bad for them, but it’s also creeping me out.

Had an internet/network outage and the web site started logging thousands of errors and I see they purposely created a custom exception class just to avoid/get around our standard logging+data gathering (on SqlExceptions, we gather+log all the necessary details to Splunk so our DBAs can troubleshoot the problem).

If we didn't already know what the problem was, WTF would anyone do with 'There was a SQL exception, Query'? OK, what was the exception? A timeout? A syntax error? Value out of range? What was the target server? Which database? Our web developers live in a different world. I don't understand em.

I don't know is it me or what, but I am really trying hard to get my hands on Vim and trying to get use it for all my daily development. But I don't know why I keep comming back to vscode thinking it will be faster to complete "this one task" in vscode and I will try vim later for other once 😐

Vs code feels more easy to move around project files, working in tabs etc etc. I do try to work on vim as well just for very silly bugs or something but I really want to switch to Vim full time but not able to convince my mind for the task in my hands at that point in time.

Anybody has any advise? I would really appreciate the help on this one

Are developers working at Google really this incompetent?
Seriously, during the years I've been working deeply and for long time with many software products developed by Google, like the Android SDK or TensorFlow for instance, I can't find a single feature in them that isn't foundamentally wrong and badly designed starting form the basis, clearly due to an evident lack of the most basic programming knowledges... Am I missing something? Are they secretly making anyone out there think they are dumb on purpose for some occult reason? Or is it truly a dumbness matter? I don't understand.. :(

I hate it when we are discussing a feature and they ask me "what do you think?" after they said how would they go about it and i mention that i would do it differently and think that my way may be longer now but can pay off in the long run and they decline it.

What i hate even more is that after some period they revesit their decision again and come to conclusion that my way is better and now we (i) need to rewrite it but without acknowledging that i said it then and was the best solution.

I found out last week that I was passed up for a promotion not because I didn't deserve it but because I got one last year.

My manager asked to have me promoted. People on other teams wanted me promoted. HR did not.

I wasn't mad about it at the time but the more that I think about it the more it's getting me down. I've been pushing myself trying to prove that I would be good for the position and now I have lost all motivation and I hate it. I like where I am at and I like what I do but this has really killed it for me. I'm struggling to get anything done now.

Finally got a new job, but it's already a horror story not even 2 hours in (making this while on break)

The Person who I should've worked with got fired yesterday, and now I have to work all of his shit up from 0, Documentation? Fragmental, a few things here and there, but nothing really.

IT security also doesn't exist in the slightest, there is an Excel sheet called "Master_Passwords" and every single password is in Plaintext, written out for everyone to see. (at least they used "strong" passwords)

And the place also looks run down, theres PC's, Laptops, Mics, Cables etc. lying literally everywhere no-one knows what works and what doesn't (since everyone is an intern)

Not to mention the "Server Room" is an absolute mess itself, cables hanging from literally anywhere, powerstrips are ontop of servers, each rack has like 2 or 3 2U Servers, (in a 40u Rack) and there are 10 of them!

I am having a shift of mindset, I learnt programming to create solutions that will make impacts in local communities - I live in Africa ... but lately, I just want to make money, alot of it.
I dont have any inspiration to continue any work for < SGD'S IMPACT PROJECT>. I plan to send my resignation letter to all.
I will probably just remodel/replicate another capilalist business model...
When I am rich enough, I can think about making an impact.

The project structure is simple. To work with it you need to first build this undocumented ruby-based, severely outdated backed that requires an env file that nobody really knows where it is. Don't worry, setting it up should take no more than half a day. Then just run `docker-compose up`, after that `rails s`. Now in another repo you need to run a python server and a node sass. You need to figure out the name of the compiled file though. Perfect structure!
