After working about a year at a new company, I realise multiple things.

1. Just because their older, or senior, doesn't not mean they know everything.
2. I really like helping other people with coding.
3. I am underpaid for the amount of work I do.

I do the same job as the senior devs, and also take on a more leadership role. The coming talk about my pay will be interesting to see..

Almost a month has gone by with my new job, and I already hate it. I thought it would be fun... but it is the worst!
They expect us to work 24/7! What are we? Robots? I am not working 24/7, end of discussion. Even if this means I have to quit my job at the end of this week if they don't agree to my "demands" about having a healthy working hours. I am already looking for a new job, because I got a feeling they won't want me there anymore after this week, because we're going to have a meeting about this.

Landed my first time job as an consultant, while still studying. Hopefully this will go good, only have 4 months left of university.
However, I am surprised of how little coding it actually is... I've been spending my first month just learning a new system, so I can finally go out to a big customer and redo their production system (factories).

Meetings all day, a lot of talking... I kind of dislike it, but also like it. It is a special feeling. I wonder how it will feel in 6 months from now.

All summer I've been working at a company doing some full-stack development. Starting my last year in university, I really wanted some real life experience that ties into my studies.

I did not expect to find horrible, undocumented, code that has been written 5 years ago, where the senior developer who wrote it doesn't even know what it does. The worst part? They are STILL not documenting! I tried to document, but got this in return "you don't have to document everything. Especially if it is understandable". But they don't even understand their old code!

Monday morning, we had a meeting and they asked what I thought of working here, seeing as I am done this week. I respectfully told them that their code is not readable, and it will make it hard for new employees to understand. The boss in return says "you're the third newly hired employee this summer to say this... Maybe we do have a problem then"..

No shit. Please for the love of God, comment your code!

WHY DO WE HAVE TO BUY THE PROFESSOR'S BOOK JUST TO BE ABLE TO PASS THE COURSE?

It's so stupid, I'm currently attending a Operating Systems course at university and the professor NEEDS us to buy his book because all of the tasks and seminars are based on his book. It is stupid! There are thousands of books out there on Operating Systems programming! Free ones too! But instead we have to spend 800SEK (100USD) on his book.

And guess what? There is literally one task based on his book... To summarize the chapters about Fixed Priority scheduling and Dynamic Priority scheduling. Which is 15 pages out of 200+.

All the students attending the course are going to the director of studies and complaining next week. This is unacceptable. If it was a good book, sure. But the book has the same exact information as multiple free e-books we've found.

Ridiculous.

God damn it! I have multiple exams that I need to study for, but can't because of my headache that I have had for two weeks now... My mom finally forced me to the doctor, and apparently I have gotten a severe case of migraine... no devices, no books and no lights allowed until it gets better.

Worst part? The exams are next week, and I havent been able to study, not even one page out of hundreds...

Guess who's retaking them this summer... döda mig 😞

My laptop has its own life...
I arrived at the lecture, start the laptop, black screen... Alrighty, might be the update from yesterday, I will just revert to the old version. Nothing... After multiple reboots and troubleshooting, I put my laptop down and go the old way of sitting down notes.

Then I come home after university and I'm set on fixing my laptop. I start it, it works perfectly fine...

I'm not even sure what fixed it..

Really?.. why is it so hard to just write the changelog?!

Saw my dad doing some frontend work alongside the devils spawn work (PHP), when I was 8 years old. Ever since I've fallen in love with programming, especially in backend work.

Spending six hours installing Antergos and reinstalling Antergos because I can not log into my laptop when I install i3 nor when I install GNOME...

Turns out the drivers for NVIDIA got installed (I checked it without thinking about it) everytime and that was the culprit...

Lesson learned: install everything by yourself, that way you know what you have on your laptop, and makes it much easier to troubleshoot..

Not a rant!

But I had to share that I just got my first job in IT while being a first year Software Engineer student! Being a webmaster at a store that operates on campus! Not much, but it's something!
