Everytime dfox upvotes one of my rants I feel like a fangirl inside. Think of a big hairy guy reacting like a fangirl.. disturbing isn't it ? 😂7

Just spent 30 minutes trying to figure out why a function wasn't working when I realized I hadn't called it. This is what happens when I forget my coffee.

My son, who is graduating soon with degrees in game programming and economics, found this. Very true.4

When I started studying CS, my dad was very upset. He told me he couldn't undersand why was I studying that if the only thing I could do afterwards was to open a computer repair shop and charge people to install antivirus and word. He's not saying shit now when I earn more than he has ever had and lend him money knowing he cannot repay me.6

I am a long time lurker on stackoverflow. There was a time I was stuck on an obscure error for so long but finally light shone when I found an answer to that problem on stackoverflow.
Overjoyed, all I wanted is to leave an upvote for the answer; before I realised that you need a +15 reputation before you can do (I know I am late in this game)
So I worked my way to that 15 and it was a tedious one. Stackoverlords deleting my answer, voting no to my edit and reverting another over petty reasons
I fought back by flagging my deleted answer with my reasons and alas the community backed me up by upvoting my answer (which was revived),the original answer poster approved my edit and @me a thank you comment. I was elated
And it is today, I got my +15. That I could finally pay back and upvote the answer from my benefactor4 -
On Saturday's I volunteer at this place where I teach/tutor kids how to program. I was sitting down with this kid and helping him when I found this pleasant surprise hidden in his code-

Stare at the screen blankly, regretting your life choice to become a dev, cry, start researching mcdonalds job ads. Then end up spending 3 hours on devRant falling in love with programming again and then realising you have just wasted 3+ hours on a left out curly bracket...5

Writing some algorithm:

"hmm... isn't working... wait wtf this isn't right..."
me: *codes for an hour again*
"still not working hmmm... wait what no this isn't supposed to work..."
me: *codes for a few hours*
"still not working God damnit.... it's supposed to work now..."
me after another few hours: MOTHERFUCKER CAN YOU START FCKING WORKING FUUUUUUUUUUU1 -
When hesitating on the difference between blocking and non-blocking, I just consider the example of a typical conversation with a customer.

Always satisfying when clients say our API doesn't work and it's shit, only to find out their firewall prevented external calls.

When you are trying to get through "Get started" section of a new framework/lib but get so many ideas that suddenly you find yourself creating 5 applications at a time without any idea what the fuck are you doing.1
