So it's been 22 days and were still going strong without a single day's downtime! https://devrant.com/rants/1147150/...2

I remember seeing my dad's computer and modem. He never let me touch it, so I made my own pretend laptop and modem out of scrap paper. 😂

This is me.. Earlier this week... At work 😂 when we get tired of coding or get stuck, we take a swim... Or just go home 😂9

We've started a new betting system in our office. Every time you lose a bet, you have to optimize atleast one project for Internet Explorer 😂8

Dear devRanters,
If you're going to screenshot any part of your feed or notifications: PLEASE switch to dark theme first. My optometrist has already advised me that my sight is starting to deteriorate because of these screenshots.
Thanks,
A very concerned ranter.7 -
So I noticed quite a lot of South Africans on DevRant and I thought to myself that it might be great to meet a couple of you! If you're keen, join the Unofficial "DevRant Meets" server on Discord. If you think your country can also benefit from a channel, just pop me a message on Discord, then I'll just add a channel for your country :) https://discord.gg/P6kafcj3

I need a couple more ++'s before I can get a DevCat, so here's a picture of a cute puppy sleeping 🐶 😂2

Felt bad for everyone working on Christmas, so I just pushed an update to all my programs which will pop up random Christmas jokes to the working users on Christmas day. Hope that brightens their day!3

So after a couple of days of playing around, I just finished the larger part of a program that my new boss wants in C# (which is new to me). So far I'm really loving the wide variety of functions, but I'm struggling to get used to the fact that everything in the ASP.net part gets "processed" (like using BuildForn to create a form tag instead of just typing the HTML) and it just slows down the process a bit 😂2

*Client phones me at 11pm*
Client: It's not working!!
Me:What's the error you're getting?
Client: "Database connection error"
*Phones system/dB admin*
DB Admin: Yeah we had to change the SQL logins, I've sent you the new ones
*Phones junior dev in charge of dB programming*
Junior Dev: Yeah you'll just have to go and change the credentials. They're in all the places where we're using the dB, just before the statement, in the connection strings...
We make over 470 calls to the DB 😑16 -
So I've started a little project in Java that creates a db of all of my downloaded movie and video files. The process is very simple, but I've just started incorporating Machine Learning.
The process is quite simple: You load the files into the db, the program tries to determine the movie's name, year and quality from the filename (this is where the ML comes in - the program needs to get this and dispose of useless data) and then does an online search for the plot, genre and ratings to be added to the db.
Does anyone have any feature suggestions or ML tips? Got to have something to do during the holiday!1 -
Documenting your code is like peeing. You'll rather just keep coding until you no longer have a choice 😂1

The awesome moment when a client claims that you are nothing but a script kiddy only minutes before you reveal a $1400 vulnerability on his site 😂4
