AboutI'm a semi-autodidact web and app developer with a major in information systems. I am currently working for a small company doing the things I love (coding in ES6+).

What's up guys! Welcome to your first android tutorial for The New Boston, my name is Travis (aka Bucky). If you're watching this video and you don't know what a "Boolean" is... You're an idiot!
Inspiring? This dude!5
Fucking love how one-liner packages are breaking basically the entire JS ecosystem every once in a while. Why the fuck do you add one-liner packages as dependencies in your code?10

Don't think too big at first. You'll definitely get there if you play it smart. Babysteps, kiddo, start with the babysteps. We've all been there, we've all started with all the hello-worlds.
Never trust a sole source of information. Always have doubts and double-tripple check with other sources. Some tutorials are misguiding, others could be solving slightly different problems than they appear to at the first glance
listen to the seniors/mentors. Seek for mentorship. This field is too vast to absorb it on your own. Mentors will help you there.
Before diving into coding make sure you know what you want to build, how it'll work. "I'll make it move somehow" is the straightest path to disappointment. Think it through, ask mentors for help if you need
If you're building an elephant, start with his front left feet's toes. Don't start with the elephant.
Most importantly - have fun!1
Finished the social distancing simulation thingy, i left out some factors but the exponential growth is very visible.
Clojure: everything is a function. Even addition is a function named + that takes in two or more arguments. That's why I love it so much2
Had to learn a new CSS framework in a few hours for a job interview / test.
Once I sent my code to them, they looked through it and told me it was amazing how quickly I could understand and learn how to use this new tool.
They hired me and today is my first day6
The look on a client's face when they realised that I program[med] sex toys for a living was pretty priceless.
Their attitude change, however, cost them a contract. Programming sex toys is no different from programming anything else.
Why do you have to bring in your religious views or my previous contracts into the conversation? All I'm doing is a network audit for your company. I'm not gonna hide a dildo in your closet, or something. I'm supposed to only be around for a few days, too.
Guess I had too many cooties, with how harsh they burnt that contract and bridge.
Yeah! The first Goal for 2020 is just reached.
Applied last Monday for a backend Job, got invited on Tuesday for a technical interview on thursday. the interview went great and 20 mins after i left their Offices and still were on my way home, i got a call and they invited me for Friday to talk Business with their CEO. So now i have a contract in just 5 days for a great Job, i am really Looking Forward to.1
The company behind ads on dutch national news sites/tv stations is stopping with tracking ads.
The interesting reason behind that IMO is that they have this very simple 'banner' which asks in a very understandable way whether people want (or not) tracking shit/cookies placed/loaded on their browser.
Apparently 90% of all visitors go for the "No" option so they don't see the point in continuing to try it anymore.
Okay so my co-workers explains why they give me the title "GitHub Maid":
Basically most of the time the engineering didn't have the time to scroll through issues, and that includes me, so a lot of this stuff does not get triaged properly when reported. When I stumbled on the tracker, I knew I had to do something, so I sorted and sorted and managed the tickets by my own.
So being a "GitHub Maid" is not something to be embarrassed about after all, in fact, I think the dev team owed me a lot because the issue tracker is more organized, and the issues are getting triaged and assigned properly now compared before.
So if they call you like something similar, be proud of it because some developers wouldn't even bother to tidy up issue tracking.12
I stopped eating on my desk a few months ago and I've been witnessing some free entertainment since. I was having breakfast and two women sat at the table beside me. Mother and daughter. The daughter walked towards the restroom door and started knocking. This all happened in a span of five minutes.
Mother: "Make it fast!"
Daughter: "I know! I'm knocking!"
Mother: "What's taking her so long? Oh my god. It's like she (whoever is in the restroom) lives there! Knock some more!" *proceeds to roast whoever is in the restroom*
Daughter: "I already did!" *knocks again*
Mother: "It's 10AM already, let's go!"
Daughter: "Nooo! Emergerrrd I need to pee ashhdkdkeuoakansvttyjj!"
The daughter was jumping up and down throwing a tantrum like she has no strand of pubic hair on her. She looks like she's in her early 20's and is applying for a job.
Another woman sees the commotion and knocks on the door as well.
Mother: "Oh my god, is she dead in there? You should have knocked."
Daughter: "I diiiid!"
So there I was munching on my hash browns, waiting for an employee and her manager to come out, wishing this would be a scene in a porn movie, that the door is closed for so long because someone's fucking in there. Then the mother would confront the scandalous pair and then make it a threesome, drag her daughter in, a foursome. Drag another crew, a few others, a breakfast orgy or some shit.
But life disappoints me as always..
The waitress walked towards the door and pushes it, it opened. Nani?! So that was all for nothing?! But there was supposed to be a corpse in there, right? Or a lewd couple! How can this be?!
Mother: *growls* "You didn't push ittttt!"
It was more entertaining than the two tech leads threatening to punch each other in the face during a go live meeting.5
We have a bunch of white people in human resources that are trying to hire "diverse" people because the company sets HR diversity targets. Which is an inherently racist way of hiring someone.
I am told to interview this guy who claims to have Angular experience. Before the interview I ask to see a form that he has built in Angular. He sends me a repo which is ripped off of an open source project and has the readme and git commits removed. A quick web search shows that it isn't his work. He shows up to the interview and I find out he is from a Southern African country. I deliberately ask some questions about code that I can see he didn't write that I prepared ahead of time. He lies to me and tells me all about how he wrote it which showed me that he has no idea what the code does. I tell HR they better not hire him because he was very comfortable lying to me, and I'm confident that he doesn't understand any of the code that he showed me. I do not trust this guy and would never choose to work with him. HR lady says "Ah okay."
Today he walks in with a big grin on his face. HR lady fucking hired this guy. I can see his monitors from my desk and he spent his whole first day looking at a soccer website on his second monitor. I call up HR, "Why would you even ask me to interview him if you refuse to listen to my feedback?". Lady tells me "You need to be open minded about diversity. Probably most of the things you observed were either cultural differences or language barrier." I tell her definitely not. He lied to me multiple times, and he took credit for other people's work." She tells me that they will keep an eye on me because I'm not being open to diversity.
Are you kidding me? This white lady is literally stereotyping me as a racist because I'm white.
So this fucking HR lady called me a racist because she decided to hire someone that we shouldn't trust. Then she put this asshat on my project. Now I have to be cautious about my position because HR is "watching" my racist ass. Even though I am literally the only one on the development team that is white and speaks English as my first-language. I called a team meeting before the on-boarding is over so I can tell the other developers what is happening. We restructured our code review process so that I will never give him feedback. Then when the time comes that he slips up the "diverse" developers will kick him out so I won't be reprimanded as a "racist".
This company that I work for is a special kind of stupid.37
