AI is the future, and it's a future I want to be part of.
This week was very stressful, beside my usual depression and personal issues, I've received a lot of difficult tasks at work, to do in a very short amount of time.
Things I never did, tecnologies I've never used, and for a potential client that is critical for the company at this period in time, and if we won't be able to satisfy their requests we could go bankrupt really soon.
A lot of responsibility, almost no time and a person not competent enough to do it (me), especially on a hurry.
I couldn't sleep in these days, I couldn't think peacefully, concentrate to find the best solutions. I had really bad thoughts.
I couldn't find any useful solution online, on stackoverflow, forums, etc. and I spent hours searching them.
For who knows me here on devRant, probably knows also that I tend to work with old legacy code and dead languages as VB6 and VB.NET.
So integrate "new fancy stuff" isn't that easy and there are no documentation and examples to relay on.
I had fear to even try to understand the documentation (for other languages) and try to write code for it… I was panicking.
With no more ideas, I've decided to try to ask ChatGPT for help.
In maybe 3 or 5 seconds it was able to generate the solution, in VB.NET, with comments and all the explanation needed to understand it and integrate it correctly in my software.
With a few other requests it was able to change it to make it fit better my scenarios.
It's truely unbelivable how the tecnology advanced in the last years, how a computer on the other side is able to reply to my questions with answers that I couldn't find anywhere, because they probably never existed for my case, in VB.NET especially.
ChatGPT made my day, and allowed me to end this stressful moment and give me time to relax and focus on more important personal stuff this weekend.5 -
Struggling to earn money to pay for medical bills for my dad at a private hospital because he's having some problems with bile in his stomach. He pukes after eating almost anything so he has to eat some dry bread and drink tea. The only solution for this is surgery. He made appointment for august which is the earliest date... I have to find a way to earn money asap so he can go privately Now without waiting...
No i cant use gofundme because its not available for my bullshit 3rd world country just like most services16 -
This Christmas I transitioned into a new job. At the old job I was the only kubernetes-guy, so since they no longer have any developers who are confident working with that, they decided to go with LAMP-stack.
The data from dev-kubernetes-server was backed up by some guy and moved to an offsite-server, or so they told me. Turns out, he had backed up the kubectl-config-file, and not the databases. Now everything is wiped. Sure glad we still have that config-file!
Of course, since that was only our dev-server, there was nothing too important there, except for all the documentation. The only other backup? On my laptop, which I turned in to them, and is now wiped and used by one of the sales-guys.
Now I’m being called in at least twice a day, since I was their goto-guy for almost anything backend-related. Feels great, after they spent a couple of months attempting to rewrite everything in pure PHP (with a strict no-dependency policy for some reason). Fml.2 -
How can you be a Server Administrator for more that 10 years when you don't know what a Terminal/Commandline is and that there's a difference between GET and POST?5
-
When backend developers do front end work 🤦♂️. Everything looks like shit, and so many bugs oh my god.10

All employees are working from home. I found out that some developers who work 1-2 days from home don't even have a desk in theirs apartments. Now i understand why working from home is considered as unproductive.6

Meetings have the ability to slow you down like nothing else. The moment you feel you are about to crack the problem you have been working on.. ding! there comes a notification for the next meeting.
Currently my team has a mid sprint review meeting, an end sprint meeting, a let's plan the next sprint meeting, a team meeting, but the one I have absolute hatred for are daily standups.1 -
I hate it when you get tunnel vision and forget simple solutions exist. Especially when you make yourself sound dumb in doing so.
Spent a bunch of time trying to wrap my head around how you could send data from one website to another and dynamically load content and all this other stuff, only to be told a GET call would make it a lot easier.
With my head in the clouds thinking of complex solutions I said "can you open a new page with a GET call?"
Can you. Open. A new page. With a GET call.
Yes, dumbass, of course you can. Here I am trying to figure out how it's possible to intercept data from a different websites HTTP call to the server and I asked if it's possible to do what ~literally~ a link does.3 -
I figured out a workaround the coronavirus shit and to protect myself in public.
Instead of wearing medical masks (like all the sheep out there), I am gonna be wearing a gangsta-style bandanna.
It covers face and mouth. BUT most importantly it will scare people away and no one would get close so i will be practicing social distancing everywhere I go using nothing but the power of fear and stereotypes.6 -
Management fired the catfish hire!
The person who showed up was not the person on the phone. It took three months for the team to convince them it was not the same person.5 -
[wk200]
Ordered a set of copic markers, they should be here tomorrow. At least this quarantine crap gives me time to draw again after 5 years.4 -
I get why my prick friend wanted me to get this app - shit's lit my brothers.
Half mad because of this social-distancing shite, especially when I do go out and get to see Apocolypse Survival Barbie stacking her cart with enough bread and frozen products to feed a legion.4 -
My bitch ass employer won't allow work from home saying unless government enforces it, he can't allow it and reason he is giving is that wE wOn't be AbLE tO communicAtE via SkyPE?
I am so pissed that such people. Everyone citizen has non serious attitude that they saying things like "Nothing gonna happen", "Chill, you are panic way to much about the Corona virus", while number of cases are increasing exponentially here too!
WTF,
I have realized that people don't understand something unless it happens to them.
This is shit.
As rational beings, we should be taking drastic measures while we can but NO!
Fuck You!13 -
Just wondering weather i should be preparing for a college supplementary exam that is to happen in may/june (that i have already failed twice and i hate that subject ) or should use this free time to learn new courses/tech that I always wanted to learn3

Friend,
I signed a petition on Action Network urging Congress to reject the dangerous EARN IT Act and protect our online free speech.
The Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies Act of 2019 — also known as the EARN IT Act — gives Attorney General Willliam Barr the power to demand that tech companies kill important encryption programs. That puts us all at risk of government censorship, cybersecurity breaches, and human rights abuses.
Don’t let Congress chip away at your essential freedoms online. Sign our petition now to tell your lawmakers to reject the dangerous EARN IT Act: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions...
Thanks!5 -
Designer: can we put the popup at the top of the screen?
Me: You mean op top of the navigation?
Designer: Yeah.
Me: I sure can. Would be stupid to block off the site navigation with a popup, but definately possible.
Designer: Cool, let me know when done!
Me: ....
Me: I am done.
Designer: Well now I can't click on the navigation anymore.
Me: That's correct. Let me know when you want to change it again.13 -
I finally realize why the managers at my work are so against remote work.
We've gone remote now and had a meeting yesterday that somewhat demanded people to be engaged. I have never seen such grown up and otherwise professional people act so irresponsible. Managers had to raise their voice towards 30+ year olds in order to get their attention.
I've been silently hoping that remote work would become more accepted, as a silver lining, during this Corona shit. But if this is common behaviour in other workplaces then I guess I can kiss that dream goodbye.10 -
You ever have someone who you'd set to QA for a group project, and then find out that - rather than setting up automated testing and writing code that can be run at different times in the development cycle - they just did it by hand, running through the program and deciding that the result they got was good enough?
Imma smack a bitch, then write this shit in their stead.2 -
How do you go forward with a project you're stuck on and you can't find the motivation to keep going?
I'm working on a relatively small and simple project for a friend. It's not that complicated overall, I've completed most of it already, and there are no stringent deadlines, so I can take my time.
But the last part has turned out to be a bit more complex to implement properly than I expected, and due to the fact that I can't seem to find a solution that satisfies me I'm completely put off from continuing.
Which is completely stupid of course, I want to finish this (and get paid), but my motivation to even open the project files is nowhere to be found.
The whole coronavirus lockdown situation isn't helping either for that matter, I feel like I'm going crazy stayin locked inside these four walls all day every day.
Sigh6 -
sleeping in.
I love sleep.
but I hate phone calls, though those are inevitable. prob the worst part.
