Why there is an Eight hours effective time policy in companies? Like I cannot code more 4 hours max in a single sitting. What kind of efficiency they want from us.25

Why so much hypocrite Devs here ?
Examples :
I don’t use VScode because it sends telemetry.
Same for Windows 10
Same for half other products.
Like YOU don’t collect telemetry in apps YOU build. And if you don’t, have fun debugging without any data beside “It doesn’t work” comments !8 -
Til that Node 10 has `for await ... in`. Basically looping async iterators. This changes everything!5

Today I found somebodies phone... Together with his bank cards in the flip protection wallet ... I was able to turn it on and charge it so I awaited a call and now through the caller I was able to return it to its owner within 2 hours of finding it 🥰 got a nice bottle of booze as a reward8

"The creative person basically has two kinds of jobs: One is the sexy, creative kind. Second is the kind that pays the bills. Sometimes the task at hand covers both bases, but not often." - Derek Sivers2

We need to normalize not being a passionate CS guru. You can be good at your job and not have passion for it. You don't have to dedicate your life to your career in every facet.
I don't expect plumbers to sit around their house all day during their free time hooking up water lines. Why is it expected that I'm always reading some dev book or learning some new framework or reading some tech blog?
I do other shit, and that's fine. My job earns me a paycheck and I'll improve on the clock, and when I walk out at the end of the day I leave that shit there.
At most I might converse with you informally about tech but I'm not going to spend my little free time going to meetups and pretending like I care more than I do. If you do that's great, but I'm not you and that's fuckin fine too.10 -
Doesn't matter how many years I do this job, a merge conflict will always stop my heart for a good few seconds.7

Wes Bos
Super funny front end developer which has great courses. I learned a lot from him and his humor is great and make his courses interesting and funny to watch.1 -
90% of rants about CSS are just people who don't even know CSS2 properly and never heard of CSS3.
That's like crying about not having a nice car without even owning a drivers license. Bullshit.14 -
Not sure what triggers me more:
a) the fact that nowadays no one can type/spell without auto-correct
b) that this passed code review
c) that no one corrected it in 12 months since it's been committed23 -
It is with a heavy heart that I said aufwiedersehen to my mom last night. She passed peacefully in her sleep, and is now resting in the fields and forests of heaven. She was born in 1932 in Hamburg, Germany, and at age 7 the world around her exploded into one of the most horrific wars that Europe or the world had seen up to that time. By the time it was over, she was thirteen, and had spent many of her formative years witnessing how low humanity can get in the treatement of fellow humans. She survived the post-war years, and came to the US in the late 1950's, and met my dad while in nursing school. She had four chidren, Tim, Chris, Tanya, and myself. She was a doting and caring mom, who dedicated herself to raising her children. She loved to cook, loved animals, especially dogs, and love human beings in general, and had a compassionate and kind heart. There is a small, empty space in the world that she filled, but heaven is a little brighter with her smile and her laughter. I miss you mom, but I know I will see you again some day. Aufwiedersehen, lieber Mutti! Wir sehen uns bald.15

Me: Want to copy this file to another computer
Bluetooth: Use me!
Google Drive: I'm better!
USB: I can help
Network shared folder: I'm in position!

A friend here just deleted his account. We had our debates and tiny fights but he really mattered to me. I know he was going through some pretty bad stuff that really hurt. I doubt you will read this but if you do, and if you need anyone to talk to i'm here to talk to you. My e mail address is srd3v@tuta.io
Please if you know who i'm talking about don't be a dick about it, don't mention his name and don't try to convince him to come back.3 -
My friend learnt how to use CircleCI for his laravel projects and he hasn't given me a breathing space since, he's constantly saying "I'm now a DevOps engineer".
I told him "You're only only a BugOps engineer". 😂😂 -
I promised myself not to fuck too much with new JS frontends. But Sveltes premise seems interesting enough to check it out and the concept of reactive blocks of code in JS sure is interesting.
This language keeps evolving as well as its tooling. I think shit is pretty amazing.14
