Family wasn't very supportive of my first choice (Film Directing) and since I live in Latin America and both of my parents come from very poor families, they pushed me to engineering in order to make money and live a better life than they did.
Even though it was not my initial call and they were not very supportive of my first choice, once I started CS they gave me everything I needed to keep on studying.
Overall, I think that for a lot of coders out here from third world countries, we can agree that engineering was not our first call, but it's mostly a way to get out of poverty and into a field that gives you advantages over others.
Shout out third world country ranters!3
That moment that you need something but your skillset isn't good enough to make it and your time is too limited to learn it.
I fucking hate those moments.26
Google Fit working perfectly!
Got out of bed at 4pm, walked to my desk, ordered home delivery. I have walked about 20 steps today.11
So I walk up to my desk, join the zoom meeting for daily stand ups, and then join the other meeting scheduled by the CEO. And I watched a presentation built around how I'll be fired in the next few minutes. My colleagues and I got laid off in the snap of a finger.
I always git push a new branch even though I know it will error as there's no upstream, just to copy the full git push with set upstream arguments from the error message.11
The only type of client I like being, is a hostile one.
That's why I intend to answer every question of the dev team, with a question.
"So would you like this banner to be blue, or green?"
Does green evoke the same emotions as blue?
"Probably not, but we're asking you so we know how to finish the design..."
Does a design have a will of its own?
"Ok... What do you think about the new e-mail feature?"
Does anyone use e-mail nowadays?
"There are plenty of people who use e-mail professionally."
Are you a professional?
"I don't think this collaboration is going to work out"
Are we done?

Best thing to do when you're having a bad day:
> Post a video on YouTube telling people that you're developing a machine learning algorithm for drones to identify obstacles.
> Show them a basic HTML code on your computer screen.
> Disable the comments4
A friend sent me this saying that this has windows on it, I put it in my computer to show him that it doesn't work
Now my PC doesn't power on
I mean WTF
WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO NOW50
Somebody please explain to Microsoft Win 10 team that normal usage of a computer should just work, home users don't have hours on end to spend on dealing with:
- BS sound drivers
- high CPU usage & diagnosing, log tracing from system processes
- many other crap you need to invest time constantly fixing or you don't have a useful machine
Windows 10 is a piece of shit7

Cracking old recovery CDs for the 9x/2000/XP era shines some light into how companies operated and when concepts came to be in that time:
Packard Bell: An EXE checks that you're running on a Packard Bell machine and reboots if it's not. How do we bypass it? Easy: just fucking delete it. The files to reinstall Windows from scratch come from...
Yup. Turns out Packard Bell was doing the recovery partition thing all the way back to the 9x era, maybe even further. Files aren't even on the restore disc so if your partition table got fucked (pretty common because malware and disk corruption) you were totally fucked and needed to repurchase Windows. (My dad, at the time, only charged at-cost OEM prices for a replacement retail copy. He knew it was dumb so he never sold PB machines.)
Computer check? Nope, remove one line from a BATCH file and it's gone.
Six archives, named "WINA.ZIP" through "WINF.ZIP" (plus one or two extras for OEM software) hold Windows. Problematic? Well... only because they never put the password anywhere so the installer can't install them. (Some interesting on-disc technician-only utils, though!)
If not a Dell machine, lock up. Cause? CONFIG.SYS driver masquerading as OAK (the common CD driver) doing the check, then chainloading the real OAK driver. Simple fix: replace the fake driver with the real one.
Would I mention this one if there weren't?
Disc is mounted on N:. Subdirectories work, but doing anything in them (a DIR, trying to execute something, trying to view shit in EDIT.COM) kicked you back to the disc root.
Installer couldn't find machine manifest in the MAP folder (it wanted your PC's serial before it'd let you install, to make sure you have the correct recovery disc) so it asked for 12-digit alphanumeric serial. The defined serials in the manifest were something like "02884902-01" or similar (8-2, all numbers) and it couldn't read the file so it couldn't show the right format, nor check for the right type.
Bypassing that issue, trying to do the ACTUAL install process caused nothing to happen... as all BATCHes for install think the CD should be on X:.
well that was fun. Now to test on-real-PC behavior, as VBOX and VMWare both don't like the special hardware shit it tries to use. (Why does a textmode GUI need GPU acceleration, COMPAQ?????)4
Fucking “front end” “Seniors” who can’t write a single line of TypeScript. Honestly FUCK YOU ALL. Waste of money on you.10

Google search can get fucked in the ass.
Greedy fucking bastards deceptively including ads as normal results.
It used to be just one, but I've seen crazy shit, like 4 ads in one search results. FOUR.
And it's not just the ads. It's all the fucking litter that they put above the results.
I'm talking about all this fucking Google Maps and web cards bullshit.
It takes too much goddamned space, and most of the times I DO NOT GIVE SHITS ABOUT THEM.
And if you want to hide that shit, guess what, you gotta go into the settings. How about you include a fucking corner X that I can click so I can hide immediately hide that shit when I want to?
Now, let's analyze the unholy mess that the image I included is:
The search I did is a simple "html form". Notice that the fucking Adblock is turned ON, yet I still get a "chameleon" ad.
The first real result is from w3schools that also expands on two also hideous things: sitelinks.
Sitelinks are nothing more than spacehogs that I very very rarely click. They look fancy, but they just add CLUTTER.
What are search result n 2 and 3? w3fools again. And I shit you not the next 2 results to those are also w3schools again. So 5 w3fucks links TOTAL.
Wow, google, I'm fucking mindblown, excellent fucking job for a trillion dollar corporation.
Get fucked in the ass.13
How is it a thing that developing a desktop app nowadays requires an enormous amount of RAM? I stared working on an electron project and the whole thing takes up 3-4 GB of RAM when running, and that does not factor in my IDE or anything else.
But the packaged app does not go over 400mb, although we have had memory leaks in the past10
Fuck everything about Microsoft Dynamics. I'm supposed to use the REST API to make a web front-end. I notice all of the data comes back codified.
null == 0.
boolean true == 100000000
boolean false == 100000001
except sometimes when
boolean false == 100000000
boolean true == 100000001
or other times
string "Yes" == 100000000
string "No" == 100000001
string "Maybe" == 100000003
Hang on. Is the system representing a 1 bit value with base 10 numbers? Did the client set this up like this? Holy crap every number corresponds to a unique record in a table somewhere. That means it only returns numeric values instead of strings and I have to figure out what the number means in the context of the table.
A "key" is user typed? So every time someone starts to make a new record it saves a new "key" without a record? So I can pull a bunch of "0" records if I pull sequentially? So basically I need to see all of the data in Dynamics to have any context at all for what is returned from the Dynamics API? Fuuuuuuuuuu10
What the hell is it with WordPress people. Just read a rant where this dude is calling himself a "developer" . What the hell you're not a developer stop calling yourself a developer. All you do is click and drag pictures into squares. And type plain English into text boxes. Using software thay an actual developer actually did develop. You don't see me on cook rant calling myself a cook you know why cuz I can't cook. Leave don't learn a respectable language and get back to me. And no HTML is not a language.25
Today at work I accidentally redeployed our ELK instance without taking a backup of all of Kibana's saved objects...
I didn't realize Elastic stores all indexes including the Kibana's in it's app folder by default.
Tomorrow will be fun.... I can't decide what to do first... Recreating all the charts and tables from memory... Or fixing the deployment script to change the data dir path...2
I'm working on a report, i have been working on it for three months with incremental feedback meeting sessions. 'It looks great'! 'What we wanted', with detailed notes at each session. So confirmed as complete last fortnight. Today - email out of the blue - we need these major things fixed, why is it doing that, the report has to go to the printers tomorrow! Argh! It is doing that because that's how you asked it to be! And if it was so important, why are you only just looking at it now?3
I SWEAR IF I USE ANOTHER WEBSITE OR FUCKIGN WEBAPP THAT SCROLLS UP TO THE FUCKING TOP OF THE FUCKING PAGE OR AT ALL IM GOING TO FUCKING LOSE IT11
