I finally landed a job as a self taught developer. After countless rejections, ghostings, interviews and assessments, I finally did it. The HR literally called me back 5 minutes after the second interview with a job offer. It’s honestly is just so surreal.2

Not much changed in job hunting, taking my time to prepare to leetcode questions about graphs to get a job in which they will tell me to move button 1px to the left.
Need to make up some stories about how I was bad person at work and my boss was angry and told me to be better so I become better and we lived happy ever after. How I argued with coworkers but now I’m not arguing cause I can explain. How bad I was before and how good I am now. Cause you need to be a better person if you want to work in our happy creepy company.

I am so mentally drained from having to deal with the intern who I have to literally spoon-feed every single thing. My previous posts illustrate the situation...
The language and cultural barriers are too much, and I am too afraid to open my mouth because of the sensitive nature of my country's history and I'll get labelled as some horrible person.
I told my manager today that I'll stick it out until end of January (thankfully I am on vacation for most of December and January), but I cannot work with her. She was supposed to move to the data team end of December, but my manager told me if she can't even properly grasp this HTML and CSS stuff, then she will not be able to do the other tasks they have for her.
This was a disaster of an experiment and I'm somewhat traumatised ( I am sure the intern is too) and I never want another intern again, nor do I want to manage people. I never said I want to be a people manager, I just want to quietly code at my desk.
This company sells MBTI psychometric assessments and they damn well know my preference, so I'm seriously annoyed that they threw this horrendous surprise on me and kept ignoring my requests for revisiting this intern's role, because I noticed a long time ago that she was struggling with basic concepts and all they did was make her do Udemy courses.
I told them multiple times that she seriously needs computer literacy training because she will not survive in this industry if she still struggles to understand how files and folders work. Other employers would have fired her a long time ago.
She's just too slow for this job. I feel sorry for her, but I do not have the capacity to do this anymore. I'm tired, it's been a long year.6 -
Why are take-home assessments such a god damn waste of my fucking time, either interview me and tell me I have the fucking job or don't. You're not fucking google so don't make me jump through a bunch of hoops for nothing.6

My boss keeps pushing me to do „any“ courses..
I’d say I’m doing my job exceptionally well. In fact he even told me before he promoted me.
I had to tell him what I wanna learn in the next 2-3 years. I told him I wanna be decent in C++ because i love the language and in my opinion every dev can improve by learning a low level language.
Have some MITx courses and stuff I wanna do (I actually want to do them) but he keeps pushing me to send him the courses so he can push me and (I think) Monitor my progress..
C/Cpp and asm have always been my love, I wanna improve and learn. But I wanna do it for myself, not for my boss. The company doesn’t have any use for it anyway..
And those courses are 4 weeks to 12 months with scheduled assessments.
I shouldn’t have mentioned it. Now it’s an expectation they have.
Now I have to force myself into doing those courses in time.. on a schedule..?
90% of then will bore the shit out of me cause I already know it and the remaining 10% are stuff I wanna look at when I feel like it. But I don’t have a paper that says I know those 90% so yeah..
Why can’t he just be happy with the work I do during working hours and leave my free time up to me???12 -
I choose to believe performance self assessments are useful. Not for, like, my actual job, but they keep me grounded. Nothing like seeing your entire body of work for a year summed up in 30 to 40 bullet points to deflate your ego. Also it gives me a chance to work on my skills in what some of you might consider "lying" though I consider it more along the lines of "creative truth telling" and "having a loose grasp on reality".

So I'm a final year comp sci student, and really struggling to find a job. I've been applying a lot, doing assessments e.t.c, but people don't seem to like me when they meet me. Am I doing something wrong? I normally research the company as much as I can and try to show how much I know, and try to give the best answers I can think of, but I'm not sure why they don't like me. Any tips or advice?13

Yearly assessments are out at my job, I hate it. It's nasty and political. Assessment server is running on company hardware and all of this just seems so grimy and nasty.. definitely not building trust or team building...
