EDIT: devRant April Fools joke (2019)
-------------------------
Hey everyone!
Today, @trogus and I are very happy to announce a devRant feature that we’ve been working on for many months. After extensive time and money investment, it’s finally here! Introducing, pixelated avatars!
@trogus came up with this awesome idea about a year ago, but we couldn’t get it just right so we had to tons of work/research to make those pixelated avatars give the full sense of retro and ULTIMATE pixelation. We think everyone will appreciate how this effort turned out.
Anyway, let us know what you think, and we hope you enjoy!
p.s. here is @trogus’s avatar - the model we used to make sure the feature is perfect!51 -
First time spending my lunch break outside this year. Didn't realize how much I missed it. It really helps to breath some fresh air when you got a bad day in office. How do you guys normally spend you lunch break?11

Bait question: What's your style?
a) for ( ... ; ++i ) {
b) for ( ... ; i++ ) {
I am disgusted of b). a) for the win 😎18 -
Manager (walking in in the morning): ey linuxxx, looking good today!
Me: w-what? I'm not wearing much special, what's so great about my outfit? But than....
Boss: April fools motherfucker!
Well, I had it coming .______.8 -
Dude what the fuck with C#'s code style?
Pascal case variable names and classes? Don't we do this so we can differentiate between variables and classes??
Newline between parentheses and brackets?
Retarded auto get/ set methods that serve no purpose than to make code difficult to read and debug?
And after all that shit, string, which is a class, has a lowercase s and is treated as if a primitive?
I really have no idea why this language is so widely praised. The only thing I like about it is that it's the only major bytecode language that has operator overloading and reference parameters.19 -
Perhaps very timely with the pixel avatars, here is the windows console rendering a blue frame and some text at 300+ FPS.21

Me: finally we have automated deployment to production
Team Lead: No production deployment still requires manual approval
Me: ok how do you want to handle it slack, webhook, what do you suggest
Team Lead: let's do a proof of concept (POC) for this
Me: Ahh... Poc for this ?
Team Lead: you don't know sh*t ?
Me: well I know you're are creating that here
Next day team change... -
So I work in IT for the police. I just received an "unneeded" encrypted smartphone.
I had to reconfigure it, in order to give it to the next policeman. Unfortunately nobody knew the password and there is actually no way to reset this damn thing.Trust me, i did my research.
About 2 days later i receive an angry call by the policeman that should be using the phone by now.
Policemen: "Why is my phone not ready yet?"
Me: "it's encrypted and nobody has the password."
Policemen: "Well just ask the previous owner then!"
Me:"It's a little difficult..."
Policemen: "Why?!?"
Me: "He shot himself."16 -
Maybe this ever tightening straight jacket of surveillance and restrictive legislation is pushing the internet in the right direction. We might end up with a proper free and anonymous interwebz.
Personally, I'll start worrying when they ban the operation of Tor nodes... And that will probably pass easily since regular folk don't know the implications. The smear campaign will be ez mode: just call it a hotbed of pedophilia and criminal activity and push the new laws as something along the lines of Put an End to Naughty Individuals and Scumbags (PENIS) act. Done and done.
I mean... if they can threaten to take away the memes without being stopped then there's nothing they can't do, lol.3 -
Be me

- I like this first profile, I swipe right

That feeling when everyone on devrant is shitting EU for Internet censorship while I'm here worrying about my country's future when they implemented Syaria Law. Very torn about it to be honest.6
-
I don’t live in the EU, but hearing all the complaints about article 11, 13, etc. is really vexing me.
Article 11 in particular.
Why the hell would you force companies to pay taxes for linking? Why the hell would you tax websites for including sources? Do you want no sources? Do you want misinformation to become a bigger problem? What the hell is wrong with whoever proposed that bill!?!?
The internet is a place for relative freedom. A place of message boards and communities we’ve created. To impede that (beyond making sure it doesn’t facilitate hanious crimes) is just plain wrong.7 -
Alright, with all the horrible internet freedom and privacy threatening stuff going around I'm setting up a new tor relay, hopefully 2gb/s.
Already have one running with an average throughput of 2TB/day but another one won't hurt, would it?
Who else runs tor nodes here? :D15 -
Hey, did you know that article 13 & 11 got through because the Swedish pressed the wrong button?
I'm not even joking, they had enough votes to sway against it, they pressed the WRONG FUCKING BUTTON!
Everyone pissed at art 13 & 11, you can thank Sweden. 🇸🇪

There's a hole in the world like a great black pit
and the scum of the world inhabit it
and its morals aren't worth what a pig can spit
and it's filled with people who are filled with shit
and it goes by the name of EU...
At the top of the hole sit a privileged few
making mockery of the vermin in the lower zoo
turning beauty to filth and greed...
by passing shit like article 11, 13, and 17.
for the corruption of men is as wondrous as Perurant article 13 license: poetic probably illegal in the eu now joke/meme musicals are the best eu article 11 lyrics article 17 sweeny todd5 -

So, there's this big company in Poland with its name starting with C and having CEO famous for saying that every software developer can be replaced with a finite number of college students.
They recently lost a HUGE government contract and so stories of people working there came to light. My two personal favourites:
1. A tester who has been fired for finding too many bugs and mistakes in their product. He was also told that bugs are to be found by clients on production, not in-house.
2. A programmer who was yelled at by his team leader for "wasting time" on code reviews instead of typing the code. He was also told he hadn't been hired to criticise other people code.
God, I'm so grateful I don't work there.20
