"Never fix a bug which has stayed in the system for a long time, unless asked for. The bug might actually be a feature for the user."

Today my oldest son is 8 years old and with pizza and cake we discussed how to hack his friends tablet, star Wars vs star trek and how to hijack wifi networks when friends parents won't give password.
And he told me how to evade detection and bypass the schools filters that he figured out alone.
I feel so damn proud.11 -
Reinventing the wheel can be very valuable. Even if you don't create a better wheel, you'll learn a lot about how it works, which can really help you out in the long term.16

I made a website for a guy, been keeping a casual eye on it and it's fine, if boring.
Then he calls in a panic to tell me it's been hacked, there is porn everywhere and funny underlined words and I must fix it right now!
So I drop what I'm doing and access the site and it's fine. I use a few different devices and even a couple of different networks and can't see a thing wrong with it.
Then I spent half an hour on the phone trying to convince him that his own shady surfing habits are causing this on his computer only.
I get the feeling he didn't believe me because he hasn't paid the latest invoice..11 -
Girl: we need to talk
Me: OK
Girl: you seem to have more time for your computer than me. I want to know how important I am to you.
Me: You are the number 1 in my life.
Girl: *smiles and hugs me*
Me: (thinking)...Just that I start counting from 029 -
Just because someone has been a dev for longer than you doesn't mean they're better. In fact they're probably worse and you've seen monkeys write better code than them

1. If you dont know, say: Let me check that and get back to you.
2. ALWAYS use legit test-data and test-images.
3. Never argue ten minutes about something you can fix in ten minutes.
4. Fuck blame or glory. Just refactor and commit and feel proud about youself.1
