Remember, when a client is telling that the job you are doing something trivial or easy, he/she is most likely try to pay you less for it.
If the job is trivial, it should cost less. People underrate things to pay less. Don't back down, stand your ground and tell them to piss of, they will pull back their bluff. -
The only part of my workflow I hate is where I have to speak to my clients. End of the story, goodbye.

The project I took over from another developer had a contact form with 27 inputs named as this:
form1, form2, form3, form4, form5, form6...
The PM asked me to make the form more "accessible" somehow.
Note: The inputs were not ordered by their numeric names, the first input was named form16 and second was form9.1 -

It was a dry october day, back in good old 2017. I had this job from a client that I never met and was doing some coding for money.
After days of no sleep, no food and no rest, I finally decided to take a nap so I paused my music.
It was at this moment I found out my machine was making funny noises. Like a dingo makin' a run from it's enemies with a whelping noise.
Clicked on my computer and tried to find an ol' file from the archive drive but the machine won't let me, sayin' the disk ain't ready yet.
I tried disk manager, disk scanner, whatever the tools at my disposal all in vain. Then I said what the hell, I'll just restart my machine and it'll be alright.
The machine rebooted but the disk was gone. It was dead like a deer I ran over. I was upset, but not aware of the calamity headin' my way.
In just a few days my other 2 disks died suddenly. The loss of data, all the effort, none of them mattered. I felt numb and decided it was time for a fresh start.
Plugged in a Windows install disk, started the sequence, a screen came up askin' me which damned and alive disk I wanna install the fresh OS. I had two same make and model SSD disks, chose the one thinkin' it was the Windows drive, hell it wasnt... It was with all "my documents", "downloads", "pictures" folders and now I had two SSD drives with two Windows installations and nothing else.
The folks in town took a dab at me for months, even the bartender of the salloon refused to give me a drink. Sayin' it was a matter of reputation...
Turned out the bastard who fried my disks was the Madde Dog PSU Tannen who had a bad temper so here I am, tellin' my story to milk breathers and cherishing old days of data...3 -
Oh, me? I am so excited about all the computing power that's gonna be stolen from people who had updated their Intel CPUs last month.
I dunno what they're up to but I'm sure it's very exciting. I'm lost between Skynet and a one world government cryptocurrency mining they will use the power for.
What do you think?3 -
So, a few weeks ago I asked you guys what would you do if you were to quit your current job. I attempted a start-up with an old "friend" of mine.
He was very enthusiastic and hardworking at the beginning. However he received a job offer from somewhere and told me that he would work there just until we found the company officially and then quit and work full time on the project.
Well... I put around 300 hours into the project and developed the system, did most of my part according to the plan but the guy didn't deliver anything.
Turned out he had another secret partner whom he first introduced me as his mentor. I had my suspicions and suddenly shut down API servers, project management domain and mail server. Suddenly the quiet guy called me asking if I was alright and everything was fine.
Then, nothing happened. He went radio silence until I called him last night and he picked up the phone drunk and mumbled something like "I'm aware of you being a victim" then went to "you're passive aggresive" or something like that and I said nothing, just hung up.
I think you can figure out what went down on the other side and I'd like to hear your scenarios.
PS: now I have another start-up idea: I'm gonna pick up a flamethrower and burn the world while laughing histerically. Anyone who'd like to join is welcome.3 -
The Last Rodeo
Hi dear ranters. I've been a dev since I was 12, that makes 18 freakin years. Although I love my job and being someone who not only consumes but also produces, I am a bit grown tired of the industry.
About 6 years ago I cut ties from the last agency I worked with to become a freelancer. I ignited many projects, helped many of my customers (still helping most of them) to realize their goals. But I've come to realize that my country doesn't like old school laborers like myself (for some reasons I would explain if asked).
So I've been thinking: what would I do if I wasn't doing this job? What would you do for living if you were to stop being a developer? Let's have a chat.31 -
Yo dawg, check out my fresh pimped homeoffice!
I have been a developer since I was 13 and this is the first time ever I feel complete :) Wish all of you even a better one than mine!76 -
There are always guys coming with the same million dollar app idea every few weeks that want me to develop the app for share of the future revenues.
Btw the idea is always like this: "he man, i got an app idea which will make us rich quick. It's like Facebook and Instagram mix but with tinder functionality."7 -
Today the last Facebook Inc application is gone off my phone as I uninstalled Whatsapp finally. But the problem is, many of my customers use Whatsapp for quick comms, what do I do for this? Any suggestions? (I use Telegram but it's not much used around)41

I made a web app and a mobile app for a client two months ago. Yesterday I shut down the server because I wasn't paid yet despite my multiple warnings and reminders.
Under thirty minutes the money was in my bank account.
Sad thing is they weren't responding to me, ignoring or lullabying me with good cop bad cop acts, acting like friends etc...
Lowering my bar to people / agencies like this depresses me.
Btw they are my former agency, they have all the money in the world but turns out they are all jackasses after all...15 -

I'm wishing for more to turn around and get off this hype wagon in a near term. -
Really, I hate this composer / bower / npm shitholes!
Why the hell is my app 300MBs?!? Because that shitty pudding composer decided to download the ENTIRE git including README.md, examples, 5 hours of assembly-giraffe porn, my granny's pajamas and two wraps of kebabs!
How hard is it to define the folder that contains the REQUIRED library so that our project might stay at 5MBs instead of 300?18 -
dependency injection is for pussies, real programmer downloads only required library files into tidy folders.2
