EDIT: devRant April Fools joke (2017)
-------------------------
@trogus and I have had an absolute blast working on devRant over the last year. However, we're strong believers in only working on a project if you're passionate about it, and over the last few months, we've sadly lost some of that passion so we've to announce, with heavy hearts, that we will both be moving on. We've decided to focus 100% of our energies on our next product, one which we are confident has billion dollar potential: Semicolon JS (http://semicolonjs.com).
We identified this sizable market opportunity as we were building out the new devRant website. Every JavaScript framework we tried left us wanting more. More efficiency. More elegance. More extensibility. That's what Semicolon JS is: more. More than a framework, it's a guiding philosophy. We believe that Semicolon JS will do for front end development what Material Design has done for user interface design. We're calling it Semicolon JS because even though you can still develop JavaScript without it, like a semicolon, we think it will soon become a standard and synonymous with quality JS development.
So comes the obvious question. What will happen to devRant? We wanted to make the announcement today because we will be officially shutting down the product in 30 days. So that gives everyone a full month to take in the last memories, look at those rants they really loved, and hopefully take some time to chat with @trogus and I about Semicolon JS and what we have planned.
With so many thanks and looking towards the future,
- @dfox and @trogus164 -
Hi, I am a Javascript apprentice. Can you help me with my project?
- Sure! What do you need?
Oh, it’s very simple, I just want to make a static webpage that shows a clock with the real time.
- Wait, why static? Why not dynamic?
I don’t know, I guess it’ll be easier.
- Well, maybe, but that’s boring, and if that’s boring you are not going to put in time, and if you’re not going to put in time, it’s going to be harder; so it’s better to start with something harder in order to make it easier.
You know that doesn’t make sense right?
- When you learn Javascript you’ll get it.
Okay, so I want to parse this date first to make the clock be universal for all the regions.
- You’re not going to do that by yourself right? You know what they say, don’t repeat yourself!
But it’s just two lines.
- Don’t reinvent the wheel!
Literally, Javascript has a built in library for t...
- One component per file!
I’m lost.
- It happens, and you’ll get lost managing your files as well. You should use Webpack or Browserify for managing your modules.
Doesn’t Javascript include that already?
- Yes, but some people still have previous versions of ECMAScript, so it wouldn’t be compatible.
What’s ECMAScript?
- Javascript
Why is it called ECMAScript then?
- It’s called both ways. Anyways, after you install Webpack to manage your modules, you still need a module and dependency manager, such as bower, or node package manager or yarn.
What does that have to do with my page?
- So you can install AngularJS.
What’s AngularJS?
- A Javascript framework that allows you to do complex stuff easily, such as two way data binding!
Oh, that’s great, so if I modify one sentence on a part of the page, it will automatically refresh the other part of the page which is related to the first one and viceversa?
- Exactly! Except two way data binding is not recommended, since you don’t want child components to edit the parent components of your app.
Then why make two way data binding in the first place?
- It’s backed up by Google. You just don’t get it do you?
I have installed AngularJS now, but it seems I have to redefine something called a... directive?
- AngularJS is old now, you should start using Angular, aka Angular 2.
But it’s the same name... wtf! Only 3 minutes have passed since we started talking, how are they in Angular 2 already?
- You mean 3.
2.
- 3.
4?
- 5.
6?
- Exactly.
Okay, I now know Angular 6.0, and use a component based architecture using only a one way data binding, I have read and started using the Design Patterns already described to solve my problem without reinventing the wheel using libraries such as lodash and D3 for a world map visualization of my clock as well as moment to parse the dates correctly. I also used ECMAScript 6 with Babel to secure backwards compatibility.
- That’s good.
Really?
- Yes, except you didn’t concatenate your html into templates that can be under a super Javascript file which can, then, be concatenated along all your Javascript files and finally be minimized in order to reduce latency. And automate all that process using Gulp while testing every single unit of your code using Jasmine or protractor or just the Angular built in unit tester.
I did.
- But did you use TypeScript?37 -

I am so damn happy right now 😁! Finally I 🎉 released 🎉my own PHP Framework after countless sleepless nights. I'm happy that I want to spend more time looking at my open source project, surfing on same pages than going to bed. LOL! 🤣
Anyway if you're interested please pay a visit on the link below. I will humbly ask your support—a few stars and forks will keep me motivated 🔥 on improving my project. Thank you everyone!
When it comes to PHP frameworks one is forced to choose not the best one, but the least evil.

I thank whoever made the jsRant, a client for devrant to view in js looking style in browser. Teacher walked passed by and asked what i was doing. I said i was exploring the source of the newest javascript framework. He said what is the name. I said semicolonJS. He asked who made it. I said some person who has fox in his name did it.
Thanks everyone! I had some laughs after he walked passed by without noticing anything.7 -
As time goes on, I've always wondered what I'm going to say to my future grandchildren about what Dev work was like today:
"Grandpa Josh what was programming like when you were a kid?"
"OH IT WAS AWFUL. ALMOST NOBODY USED VERSION CONTROL CORRECTLY AND NEW JAVASCRIPT FRAMEWORKS WOULD APPEAR EVERY SINGLE DAY!"
"They at least attempted to use new paradigms in their framework code, right grandpa?"
"NO CHILD. THEY WERE EXACTLY THE SAME IN EVERY WAY..."5 -
Haven't seen a JS framework in a while? Well say no more, I just created a framework to make sure the flow is ongoing:

➡️You Are Not A Software Developer⬅️
When I became a developer, I thought that my job is to write software. When my customer had a problem, I was ready to write software that solves that problem. I was taught to write software.
But what customers need is not software. They need a solution to their problem. Your job is to find the most cost-effective solution, what software often is not.
According to the universal law of software development, more code leads to more bugs:
e = mc²
Or
errors = (more code)²
The number of bugs grows with the amount of code. You have to prioritize, reproduce and fix bugs.
The more code you write, the more your team and the team after it has to maintain. Even if you split the system into micro services, the complexity remains.
Writing well-tested, clean code takes a lot of time. When you’re writing code, other important work is idle. The work that prevents your company from becoming rich.
A for-profit company wants to make money and reduce expenses. Then the company hires you to solve problems that prevent it from becoming rich. Confused by your job title, you take their money and turn it into expensive software.
But business has nothing to do about software. Even software business is not about software. Business is about making money.
Your job is to understand how the company is making money, help make more money and reduce expenses. Once you know that, you will become the most valuable asset in the company.
Stop viewing yourself as a software developer. You are a money maker.
Think about how to save and make money for your customers.
Find the most annoying problem and fix it:
▶️Is adding a new feature too costly? Solve the problem manually.
▶️Is testing slow? Become a tester.
▶️Is hiring not going well? Speak at a meetup and advertise your company.
▶️Is your team not productive enough? Bring them coffee.
Your job title doesn’t matter. Ego doesn’t matter either.
Titles and roles are distracting us from what matters to our customers – money.💸
You are a money maker. Thinking as a money maker can help choose the next skill for development. For example:
Serverless: pay only for resources you consume, spend less time on capacity planning = 💰
Machine Learning: get rid of manual decision-making = 💰
TDD: shorter feedback cycle, fewer bugs = 💰
Soft Skills: inspire teammates, so they are more productive and happy = 💰
If you don’t know what to learn next — answer a simple question:
What skills can help my company make more money and reduce expenses?
Very unlikely it’s another web framework written in JavaScript.

Absolutely loving the Slim 3 PHP framework. It's extremely simple, fast, and easily extensible. And nice use of dependency container.
-
So processors have Moores Law, I'm starting to think Web Development has one too.
"There shalt always be a new, better, framework, that would have saved weeks of time, but only after you've hit the point of no return in a project"
Anyone else know the feeling of "damn...I may as well just rewrite everything...."3 -
I've learned A TON creating my own very basic PHP framework. I'm using it for basic personal small projects (login system, simple functionality) and I'm loving it. The customization makes specific repetitive tasks so much easier.
Don't get it twisted, I use Laravel and Symfony much more (and Javascript) but I would definitely recommend anyone to do it just for the learning experience.9 -

Earlier this day (or yesterday, timezones 'n stuff) I posted a "rant" about my new Project:
"The Spigot Web Framework" - a Tool that should help Owners of Minecraftservers without dedicated Webserver and knowledge about developing a website.
In the Screenshot below I show you guys, how few lines of code can make a beautiful website.
The Modulemanager is fully done and people can build their own Modules, which can be live updated.
I am currently working on "cross communication" between the Client and the Modules.
I hope you guys stay tuned!
EDIT: As mentioned in my last rant (look @comments) I will be able to pull off a standalone version of this software.19 -
So almost burst a vein today because of a teacher who kept telling us that the .NET orm , Entity framework , loaded the whole database in memory at a context's instantiation , i thought that's kind of stupid thing for an ORM today, considering the hit on performance and memory consumption with large DBs, and asked her to argument why they would adopt such an approach , at the end she said it worked like that and that me saying it's inconvenient is just my stupid opinion . when i looked it up on the internet i couldn't for the life of me find any mention of that behavior and that she was completely WRONG !! i fucking hate this dumbshit university am going to , anyone looking for an intern trying to escape dumb fucks ?5

I need to pick a CSS framework for a[n eventually very large] React/React-native project at work. Any suggestions?
While I'm very good with CSS, nobody else is,
and eventually everyone is going to be touching the project, so it needs to be pretty easy to use.
I'm thinking of picking Bulma, or one of the newer, lighter frameworks, but I just don't know. (I'm also getting a lot of pressure to pick Bootstrap3 so we can... copy tables from unrelated sites? I guess? idgi)
Anyway, I have until Wednesday to completely convert over (it'll take me a day), and I still don't know what to pick yet.
Suggestions/advice welcome!23 -
Sometimes I feel like I should handle my frameworks like Trump handles America.
No foreign code.
But then again.. Teaching my co-workers is better than just blaming them.4 -
Good idea:
Making your own framework so you have control over it and your projects
Bad idea:
Making your own closed framework rendering Google and SO useless
Context: the company I work for creates their products using their own framework, it works well and allows for things other framework didn't think about, any error coming from it cannot be searched for since it's only used internally.3 -

PaperCSS - The less formal CSS framework.
I came across this CSS framework which became really popular in the past months (like 125+ stars on GitHub in first week). I wanted to learn more of CSS so I started contributing to it and the community was nice to accept my couple PRs.
Now it has reached near 1.5k stars on GitHub with version 1.3 released.

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!

I tried so long on getting my new Netty based webserver up and running, I think I grew my beard twice... But NOW ITS WORKING!
Need to delete a few unnecessary functions that I needed with the old web server, implement SSL. And I can finally release a version of my framework ❤️❤️❤️
And I might put up one standalone version because - it's the same freaking server every time so I am fucking loving to export it ❤️❤️9 -
It's both extremely satisfying and extremely rage-inducing when you learn that an update in the framework breaks your once perfectly functional code for no reason.
Especially when said code is from a sample written by the developers themselves.
Thank god there was a hotfix. -

First month of project we suggest that we test that Entity Framework has made reasonable DB queries because the system will need to handle a lot of records. “Not a priority in this sprint because we need features.” Devs try to get it into every sprint. The last week of the project they want us to dump in a ton of records so they can test it. The N+1 SELECT query issue is on main queries. It is so bad and slow with more records that a simple query causes the container management to auto scale the application on a single query. They can have max 8 users in the system at a time and it will take 10 seconds to do a simple page refresh.
They get on our case and we dredge up all of the correspondence where they completely ignored our advice. Fix it now! We need another sprint. Fix it free! No.11 -

I work with J2EE every day, especially Spring and Spring Boot.
I like it very much but when I am home I love tinkering with C++ (even tough I am a beginner in this language).

When small things get big and don't work and you wonder for hours what is wrong with your code ... only to find out the problem is in the framework you use.

I will say that with c# it is nice that you are primarily only learning one framework which is .NET. With node I have had to learn express, sails, meteor and socket. With php I have had to learn codeigniter, symfony, laravel and lumen. I am so tired of having to learn one to two different frameworks at every job.23

Thanks guys :)36 -
Was supposed to start my exams training today (Application Development study). At the daily scrum, I told the scrum master (teacher) that I heard (I did hear that tho btw) that the training only starts next week so 'if I could work on my framework to get it ready for the training'. I know I'm supposed to start today with my project but I rather finish my framework really.
He fucking said YES.
So this will be a happy week of framework programming :D -
My PM wants to take the current website, which really sucks on mobile (one of the worst mobile viewports I have seen) and put in an iOS/Android app.
So basically he wants an iOS/Android app which contains only 1 activity/viewcontroller which contains a webview...
My goodness...
Tried to talk him out of it, but I can't even get him to consider using a hybrid framework.
He doesn't appear to care very much about performance of the app neither does the PM care much about UX.
What the PM does care about is this thing called : ONE CODEBASE.
Any tips how I can try to persuade him to atleast consider a hybrid framework? Any requirements that will force the PM to abandon this stupid idea are extremly welcome!15 -

I am always excited when I see new JavaScript framework. Not in positive way, but still excited.
Why? Because I have so much to choose from. And I love half finished projects. -
First Post since... Long I guess?
I got a new project!! I am currently creating a Webserver Framework in Java. I can create fully functional websites with a few lines of JSON.
(Look below)
Currently I don't have direct Javascript support, but I am working on installable modules. With those the Web-Admin can code little code fragments that can be shown (live) on the webpage.
I am so hyped because it does work <3
(Pictures of development might follow)
(Can I even call it framework? Hm dunno.. )17 -
When you work with other developers who would, for any feature, small or large, plop in a new library or framework of which they will utilize 1% of... I'm talking about things that we could develop in house in less than a day and have significantly less code bloat... and when you tell them this they smile, nod, and say yeah gotchu, and continue on... AND YOU HAVE TO MAINTAIN THE DAMN THING.1

Unpopular opinion.
devRant needs a poll feature :D
im starting a new project, and currently deciding on the css framework to pick. kinda sick of injecting bootstrap into everything and reworking it, time for a new toy.
so... Whats your preferred CSS Framework?

MSbuild makes me want to blow my brains out.
I know it's no longer used in .NET Core and all the lucky people that don't have to deal with .NET Framework can happily move on.
But here I am, a complete idiot. Expecting MSBuild to build the exact same way from the CLI as it does if I run a build in Visual Studio. Expecting the build server to consistently produce the same result as if I built my solution locally.
Demanding meaningful earnings and error messages that don't leave me completely perplexed as to what's actually going on in the compiler.
Fuck me and fuck .NET Framework. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.8 -

That feeling when you are browsing a job offer and they claim they use "pure PHP".
LOL nope. I won't maintain your custom framework created by five different freelancers over the past few years and turn into something that does scream Frankenstein.
At least state that it uses composer, symfony2 components or some other microframework. I have yet to see an application that truly requires your own framework. And even when you do, base it on silex / symfony2 components. http://symfony.com/doc/current/...2 -
Last day of agile project i get asked for confirmation that the alpha system can handle 100000 records. We have had no load testing requests only feature pushes every sprint.
I see the back-end guys have used EF in a search function that eager joins a bunch of tables. Then the results get sorted and filtered in application code. It works fine for a few hundred records but the customer will do about 100k new records a year.
Yeah this won’t meet requirements. I wish they asked for some load testing before the last day. They aren’t going to like that one person can do a search every 15 seconds by the end of the year when I tell them. FML12 -

Fucking android framework. Sucks my huge ass balls. What is wrong with the people that wrote this?
You implement a fba and hide it when the recyclerview in the corresponding is scrolled down.
Then you change to API level 25 and they fucking decide it would be a good idea to refuse to send the onNestedScroll when the visibility for a fba is set to GONE which is itself not bad, but they also think setting the visibility for the fba when you call the hide() method to... yea you guessed it FUCKING GONE would be an amazing decision. Oh yea you smart ass nice decision I'm so glad you did it.5 -

Admitting a few things: I found myself ranting multiple times about multiple programming languages and how it's their fault things didn't go my way, I'd like to take the time to admit that I was wrong, not understanding the language was because of my lack of experience with it and patience to understand. So here's my two cents : if you're ranting about a programming language/ framework being bad, you're probably inexperienced and don't know how to use it right. I was retarded for blaming languages such as php and using typescript as being bad even though I was clearly inexperienced with them, sometimes I see a bunch of retards bashing great languages and libraries such as bootstrap, bitch if you can't manage to understand how to copy paste some css classes then you will probably never be able to write css and should consider working as truck driver. It's been a month now in my new company and my skill level has increased exponentially, we are almost ready to launch our app and I have in someway become super excited about learning new tech.8

F*ck JavaFX. I mean, how a GUI framework doesn't have a standart navigation procedure? It is not even possible to create a page by constructor. In many other framework when I wanted to pass a data to a page, I just had to write
"new MyPage(SomeClass someObject)"
but in javafx I have to first create a constructor, link the fxml file to it then show the page.
Actually I am not angry. It is a big mistake to wait a good GUI framework from a company that has a website something like that in 2018.1 -
Who the fuck invented the glorified pile of shit people call laravel? Is this actually used in PROD for anything else than load testing a monitoring server by creating loads of error messages?
OOP exists for a reason, not to create bazillions of classes with static methods.
Dump that shit ffs!7 -
Does anyone know of a library I can design UI in HTML/CSS/JS for a C# app?
I need to remake my bot framework, but winforms is just so old.19 -
- And also today I completed my to-do list
- Did you carry all the tasks out?
- No, just a new JS framework -
"Mobile optimized" themes, templates, websites etc that are looking completely broken on an actual mobile device are fucking ironic, especially those "css framework" websites.

I started my degree project with PySide. After a few weeks I read that PySide would cease to exist (or at least wouldn't receive Qt5 support). At that point I was already to far in the project to change the underlying framework.
I hoped to continue developing that project, but because I was already working with deprecated technology after quite literally only a few weeks, I lost interest because I didn't want to start from scratch again. -
I committed a sin for which I can never forgive myself.
At work, we were using some react plugin but it was lacking some functionality.
In the end, I forked the repo and released plugin on npm -_-
FML, I contributed to this stupid shit while I was happy with despising over this stupid framework fad from other side.
Ps: It was friday. -
You know your day/week/month/year is fucked when your non-tech boss tells you about this awesome new tech that he has found in a article...

I am now going to attempt the problem solving ritual.
Requirements:
-have a problem or piece of unoptimized code and you don't know how tk fix/improve it
-be able to sleep/take a nap
Now before I fall asleep the ritual should provide me with an epiphany to solve my problem
Plan b:
I have a class ninja (model), with an observablecollection<property> properties and an observablecollection<gearslot> gearslots;
,a class gear with an observablecollection<property> properties and an Category category:
And a class gearslot with a Gear gear and a Category category;
Via entity framework this results in several property entries per ninja
And several property entries per gear item
All good so far.
I now actually want the ninja property values, to be the sum of the gear property values
So a ninja has int, agi and str of 0.
Gear has 0 or more stats.
If the ninja has two pieces of gear on with agi +1, then the ninja agi should be 2
If possible i would like the logic in the model.
Else i have to put it in the viewmodel.
That i can figure out, its just so inelegant.... -

For : Web devs, especially corporate website developers. (home, about, services, contact pages with content update features, bla bla)
Question : Is there an open sourced PHP solution between Wordpress and Laravel?
Reasons
- I do not want full framework like laravel for such simple website.
- Laravel is too much and heavy for standard corporate websites and not all clients can afford ssh-enabled servers.
- I do not want full CMS features like plugins, themes, etc from Wordpress.
- Wordpress themeing is not super difficult but also not as simple as Laravel's blades.
- I also don't wanna go static since the content update needs to be dynamic.
- I am willing to write own templates, CRUDs in minimal approach just for specific parts based on clients requirements.
- I want something that can easily host on shared hosting. (do not have to worry about composer and ssh)
Any thought?8 -
I just created a new file in Android Studio called Auth.js and then wondered why I have a folder Auth with a file js.java inside.

I am supposed to conduct an Angular2 workshop for my juniors. Just found out that their subjects had changed and they don't know HTML or js, only C.
Why do they do it? How am I supposed to teach them Typescript,Object oriented,HTML, basic Nodejs, Angular in 4 hrs... -
Dev: Now that I finally know PHP and JS it must be really easy to find a good framework and use to build my beautiful website.
The options are limited: AngularJS, ReactJS, Ember, ActivateJS, BackboneJS, ExpressJS, Laravel, RactiveJS, Node.JS, Meteor, Knockout, Symphony, Codeignitor
And yes, you thought if you don't like AngularJS you can easily switch to ReactJS. But guess what, every framework will use their own scripting languages like Jade, Blade, Typescript making it learning something new extremely smooth.
The documentation will be part of another rant3 -

What's the best nodejs framework for the MEAN stack? I need to do additional things to put TypeScript in node js and express. I have seen nestjs with a good directory structure and also uses TS by default. How about meteor or Koa?
Should I just add TS to my existing node and express? Or use nestjs or some other nodejs framework. What do you suggest?3 -
I need a framework that does http and websockets for C++. I have seen many that offer a crap load of stuff like widgets, Json, templates... I only need the protocols!

was working on a project once where we needed a database mapping to some c# code
tasked one of our less experienced guys on it to maybe give him some experience
now I'm assuming most people here who have worked in .NET for a reasonable amount of time know about entity framework, and I did tell the guy about it.
three days after giving him that task he comes up to me smiling and says he's done
great! what did he do? he wrote the database mapping from scratch using hard coded SQL queries using lists to chain queries together in a sea of if-else statements...
let's just say the code broke down and needed last minute fixing when it was time to present it2 -
Just learnt Vue js. Now I need to learn a backend framework. Django or Node js? Which one should I learn?8
-
A new JavaScript framework you're saying?
I was working on a dashboard website, and when I was deciding what to use (plain JS, Angular...) I've decided to make my own, lightweight routing framework.
It's on GitHub (https://github.com/Kamebase/Kame)
What do you think about it?6 -
Hello ranters, I need some help because I want to make a portfolio for my curriculum vitæ and my experiences but I don't know if I should use a framework for this kind of little project.8

I mostly did backend until now but now I am trying to learn js to learn more of frontend programming. I have no problem doing html & css and I am even getting behind js but:
Why do I even need js frameworks?
Can’t I do everything in plain basic js?3 -
I've been wandering around with a brain itch for the past few days trying to pick an API framework.
I wanted to something fast and async, so I would normally use Go, but it's an interface to a python project, so I had to find a good asynchronous python web server.
Twisted provides async options, but they aren't baked in, and tornado/cyclone/airohttp are written in a weird way for someone coming from flask/Django.
Finally I resolved to use Falcon, because it was built for APIs and async by default, but it was crazy verbose to write. I settled in to write it anyway... But then I found the perfect library. Hug: https://github.com/timothycrosley/....
I can finally think clearly.
Now I can finally write my code... At least until I have to pick a framework for the rewrite of the web app.5 -
So. I'm trying Vue for a hackaton. I'm good with React and Angular - albeit I don't like the later much.
React feels like you're using a blackbox - sometime it doesn't work like expected, but at least you can kinda see what is happening. It respects idiomatic javascript and native DOM manipulation.
Angular feels like you are locked in the black box, and if something goes wrong, be ready to dive in darkness for days.
And unfortunately, it's the way taken by Vue. I have a simple checkbox in a child component. It's supposed to triggers event, as the doc says `v-model is just syntaxic sugar`. Except in this case, it also says `those components should be used with v-model`.
So what does it means? Why are you saying one thing here and another things there? Could you please avoid making assumptions about how other people would use your tools?2 -
Which php framework is worth getting into? Laravel seems to have most market or should I go with CakePHP or even something else? any info is appreciated (how are the docs, is it hard to find solutions, how is the error handler, how hard is it to learn etc), I am sure people around here have used a good amount of them and can tell their rage or good things about it. 😳9

I just spent an hour researching about how to do this thing in a particular JavaScript framework when I remembered I can do it in CSS 🤣 I'm so embarrassed I really need to practice my vanilla

Shame on you Facebook Developers!
I’m neither messy or anal coder, but whenever I push something to production I make sure to handle all debugger warnings... I don’t think it’s perfectionism, rather good practice, makes important bugs easier to find. ;)
A single Facebook SDK Framework has 70+ unhandled warnings, trivial things, could be fixed in a half day...
I had to use ‘inhibit_all_warnings!’ flag literally for the first time, not to get frustrated every time it gets updated :/
P.S Not to mention I had to change the dependency manager because (with the newest update) they have written themselves out of compatibility with the one I was using... C’mon guys. Not cool. -
Found out today we're changing front-end framework we use on our ecomm site to different one so all the work I've spent the last 2 years doing will pretty much need to be redone. FML.2

I have to confess, the first time I saw a framework like bootstrap I hated it because I didn't understood most of the HTML with a lot of tags with classes everywhere. It took me like 3 weeks to learn how to use it right and I made 3 websites from 0 in the process.
One day I read about a framework that uses Material Design rules (which I apply in my electronic projects with rgb screens). Since that moment I started to use it. I love how easy it´s to do a complex thing with a few lines.
For those who are starting with web design, give it a try to these frameworks. They will make your life easier. I was the kind of guy that writes every single line of html, css and javascript by hand.5 -

Pardon the rant; some of it can probably attributed to me, but please indulge me of you could.
I'm tasked with creating a report that pulls data from some sql tables in c#and presents it using javascript. My manager was nice enough to lend me his old sql query, so I run with that using sql connections. Now I find out AFTER I get my sql query string working and retrieving data properly that my manager wanted it done using linq and entity framework, so now I have to start over, a process made only more "fun" by the confusing and unintuitive column names of our sql tables.
Moral of the story: don't take the easy way out.
After I spend some time fixing that up, I have to print out the data using javascript and html, which my manager was kind enough to lend me. Cue me shutting off my brain and thinking that I should have the program open and display this stuff itself. Let me tell you that converting a console application to a Windows form application is not a fun experience, especially when entity framework makes classes named "application" and "form" from your database tables. After finally getting the WebBrowser form to work, I'm hit with a javascript error from the library my manager referenced (he is a programmer himself). I tell him about the error and he just tells me to write the html code to a .html on disk like he did, but never explicitly said he did until just now.
Fixed moral of the story: don't take the easy way out, unless you should.
I should clarify I was given the whole raw sql query and html with some embedded javascript and a reference to chart.js. -
I started a project to practice and familiarize myself with SQL more and Entity Framework Core and prove how much I’ve learned from reading this book.
It was originally gonna be small program with a small database but over the course of me designing the database I thought of more features I could add. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a project and it feels good to have one.
Right now I’m only messing with SQLite but since the position I want to apply for asks for SQL Server I want to mess with that eventually.5 -
Has anyone heard about Bench and Frappe framework?
It is a very good python, open source framework.
It sets up almost everything for you when you want to start a project.
I found this framework, when I was searching for an open source ERP built on python, since Odoo went commercial. -_-
After searching, I found Frappe framework. It is a small community, but the framework has potential in my opinion.
Just wanted to pinpoint this very good framework.
Now every time I want to start a new project, I do not need to to all the set ups, like database, user authentication, user permission, etc. The framework does it for you.
NOTE: I am not and I do not have any connection with the devs and this company. I am just a user of this framework, and just wanted to suggest to you and take a look.

There are predefined categories (things like error messages in the printer display, issues with the prints, issues with paper jams, issues with noise and so on) maybe around 10 to 20 categories.

What JS framework you don't like but you were forced to study it due to job requirements? I like vue but there are only few job postings that require it. Most jobs here are angular and react. I know angular now and currently learning react because of job requirement reasons hehe!😄3

Soo I finally uploaded my framework for Java Web last week.
It works great except for forwarding POST requests but meh, I'll fix it later.
Currently it only works for newer Minecraft Spigot version's and BungeeCord, because fucking netty is a piece of shit and Apache commons also... But I'll release a standalone version hopefully next month (maybe even next weekend).
And on the website from Spigot where you can find the link to my GitHub, there were two dicks which tried to steal my code and complained about my obfuscation... The didn't even fucking tried the plugin and gave me 1 star... Fucking pieces of shit fuck...
Anyway: here is the link!

Today I (/ later together with some colleagues) spent almost 4 hours trying to improve a Entity Framework LINQ to SQL query.
The initial problem was, that one of our List API endpoints took longer the more you "page" (besides the long response time it had anyways).
So after
- brainstorming in the team
- brainstorming alone
- hacking around and
- shouting at screens
- googling
we
- got nothing optimized
- got confused about what EF does
- lost the believe in our development skills
So Entity Framework is really a nice thing. But as soon as you look deeper, trying to figure out what it really does between ToList() and "yeah my data arrived" it is just....demonic.3 -

I finally! managed, after several annoying phone calls and dozens of emails, to convince the client to switch from ZF1 to another framework after spending several hours setting up Zend_Locale, which, as already predicted, didn't work properly.
I've already written a rant about it.
Project size is approx. 200,000 lines of ZF1 code. ZF3 would be a possibility, but I don't know what the guys from Zend will do with it in the future. The community doesn't seem to be that big either.
What framework would you suggest for PHP at the moment?6 -

When I first got started in web development I had to think really hard to write code to solve real world problems. It was rewarding and creative process. Work has set us a challenge to build a rock/paper/scissors/dynamite/waterbomb api. We have the spec for what json is expected incoming and outgoing. We are allowed to implement any way we want and with any language we want. We are considering using Clojure but we have no experience with it, hence we will hopefully be learning as we go. Would you recommend using a framework like Pedestal, Hoplon, Luminus, or just use Leiningren or something else?

Relational data is so much easier to work with than non-relational data (obviously!). You define the models, some serializers, some viewsets (set of generic views for GET, POST etc.) and their URL patterns, and you get REST APIs with full CRUD functionality. And if required each layer can be easily extended (provided the framework you're using is well-designed). -

This week, I worked on my side project. The basic idea of this project is to let everyone build software components in their favorite programming language without any need to learn any complicated protocols (such as CORBA or whatever).
It already worked good enough for some stand alone cases, but recently, I build a web app based on it.
So far, I write the code by myself. But I guess the project won't be as good as what it is right now without any help from everyone. Some fellow developers in real life and in devRant (especially @plugsut) really help me in order to write a better code. And I'm grateful for that.

The spring framework, it took a pain in the arse language {java} and turned into something reasonably good again! Props to Rod Johnson on that one4

Opinions
Hello, I’m considering building a web framework.
My ideal features would be:
Customizable authentication system(considering using a jwt lib)
Embedded DB(bolt db)
ORM( writing my own)
REST api to DB (via code generator)
Code generator(generation of models and views via cli)
GUI to db(some admin dashboard)
CORS(web service right?)
Why?
Ease of development
Fast prototyping of small-medium web services.
Fun.
My question is, do i have to many things on my platter? Should i narrow it down into less featured framework? What feature should I focus on? How should i benchmark it? Should i write tests for absolutely everything or just for exported methods? What should i take into consideration when developing ORM API, Auth API...
The language is Go
Thank you for your input10 -
Currently debugging a project that was written over 4 years ago...
At first all was well in the world, besides the ever present issue off our goddamn legacy framework. This framework was written 7 years ago on top of an existing open source one, because the existing one was 'lacking some features' & 'did not feel right'.
Now those might be perfectly fine reasons to write a layer on top of a framework, but please, for all future devs sanities, write fucking documentation and maintain it if you're going to use said framework in all major projects!!
Anyhow back to the situation at hand, I'm getting familiar with the project, sighing at the use of our stupid legacy framework, attempting to recreate the reported bugs...
Turns out I can't, well I get other bugs & errors, but not the reported ones. I go to the production server, where I suddenly do can reproduce them...
Already thinking, fuck my life, and scared for the results... I try a 'git status' on the production server....
And yep, there it is, lo and behold, fucking changes on production, that are not in git, fuck you previous dev who worked on this and your stupid lazy ass modifcations on production!
Bleh, already feeling royally pissed, there's only 1 thing I can do, push changes back to git in a seperate branch, and pray I can merge them back in master on my dev environment without to much issues...
Only I first have to get our sysadmi. to allow pushing from a production server back to our git server...
Sigh, going to put on my headphones, retreat to my me space and try to sort out this shitpile now... -

Halp meh, plz... I have run across a problem and I have absolutely no idea how to go about solving it...
So basically I need to decrypt a TDES encrypted Azure service bus message. Can be done in a straightforward manner in .NET Framework solution with just your regular old System.Security.Cryptography namespace methods. As per MSDN docs you'd expect it to work in a .NET Core solution as well... No, no it doesn't. Getting an exception "Padding is invalid and cannot be removed". Narrowed the cause down to just something weird and undocumented happening due to Framework <> Core....
And before someone says 'just use .NET Framework then', let me clarify that it's not a possibility. While in production it could be viable, I'm not developing on a Windows machine...
How do I go about solving this issue? Any tips and pointers?12 -

I don't know why I can't understand how to use thymeleaf. It's concept makes sense, split an html page into two so you have a header html page made up of code you don't want to change, and an index html page of content you do want to edit. But no matter what it won't fucking connect the classes.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions...
If anyone has experience with this you can take a look at my post here on it, maybe give some input. For now though I'm going to just run a single html file and make comments in my index page. :/8 -

Is there any sane front-end framework that I can choose to learn with this criteria:
- Good documentation(both for the setup abstract and practical guidance and framework hands-on)
- A lot of examples
- Description of best practices in it's context
- Currently maintained and developed
- Uses modern JS(if any) under the hood
- Covers well localization and globalization practices
Or am I dreaming? 🙄6 -
So I'm not sure what I should learn next. Developers love vue more than react. But I prefer to work remotely and I lost the count of how many job ads require React js experience. Every employer wants react. Would you still suggest to learn vuejs despite this? Right now I know javascript and I abuse jquery (front end developer here)2

"Validation failed for one or more entities. See 'EntityValidationErrors' property for more details."
That really helps in my error log Entity Framework ❤ -
Is ther anyone here who tried creating thier own PHP framework? And why you stop or continue working on it? I just want to know if what I'm doing now with my free time is worth it, well except for the fact that I learn to discover better approach on some problems that I encountered before. :)5

I need to actually build up my website since all that's there is a digital resume currently
I have too many ideas for what I want like a simple blogging space, project showcase space, my teacher recommend a lanking page, and a better digital resume. but limited free time to figure out where to start and what to use and that's really demotivating
I'm thinking about using node or vue to learn a framework but again I'd have to learn them since all I know is normal unmodified js. And again where the hell do I start4 -
And so i proceeded to try and re write code using my own framework(more like complex file system). But the original code itself is just so fucking confusing i want to kill whoever wrote this silly cunt off an application.
Hence the 1 hr break i took and hence this rant. -
Any opinions on using Entity Framework vs Dapper for an API for a vue SPA Web app?
I have used both, and it seems it is a trade off of more control vs convenience.4 -
What's the best mobile development framework coming from Angular perspective? Ionic? Should I also study React and React Native? 🧐
How about flutter? How about in terms of job demands? I'm a PHP and JS guy4 -
Originally I'm coming from Java , about 2 years ago, I switched Node with TypeScript and had a hard time getting accustomed to Promises. It was a big relief when I learned about async/await. Much cleaner code, no brainfuck anymore when thinking about how to handle stuff that requires multiple async values and so on.
Now I'm working on a clients project as a Java dev again. SOA, Spring Framework, Kafka and MongoDB, nothing too complicated... if they wouldn't use reactor to bring reactive functionalities to Java.
It feels like I'm back in Promise Hell...2 -
There's a type of shopaholism in big open source projects, in that decision making developers tend to search google and just add any javascript framework they find interesting, to the code base!

Don't know if this was or will be a weekly question, but anyone have any good stories on how your opinion of a language/framework/application/etc. changed dramatically? Maybe there are some lessons to be learned for those of us that are stuck using something we think we hate, or are in love with something we shouldn't be.2

Started developing a PHP framework, just because. As I don't have many developer friends, I wondered if anyone on here may be interested in joining in? Still very early days, so probably best time to join.

I been working with pure javascript and css forever, and for awhile I been avoiding these frameworks and whatnot but now I think it's time to dip my toes, what's the first easiest to learn quickly framework? I heard I should start with react?5
-
really?? we have not seen any new framework for months now, or even any news of it...
I think we are on the stable phase now...
...or I could be wrong. :/ -
Has anyone checked out Mycroft? Not Mycroft Holmes, but the AI framework. I'm interested in making a small ai project of my own, do you think Mycroft is a good place to start?1

When you need that one feature from a framework, that it just not have. So you have to use a custom version till your PR has been accepted.
I see a possible problematic future... -
So i wrote complex, great WP framework using parts of nette, latte template engin, shit tons of my code, has many usefull features. Is fast, puting barier between me and WP shit. You have no idea how fast my development is now.
Now, i writing eshop component, looking good, working great, is extendable, fast and so.
Reason 1: WP is piece of shit, woocommerce too, CMB has no fucking sense, fuck ACF and many other WP tools.
Reason 2: I'm too lazy to read.
Question: I spent months of coding, looking for ideas, and make tenths implemenations because:
1: WP is piece of shit, woocommerce too, CMB has no fucking sense, fuck ACF and many other WP tools.
2: I'm too lazy to read.
Please decide, i honestly don't know.1 -
I was thinking about making a PWA website for devRant. It's really only an excuse to play more with some frameworks.
Of course I will make this project open-source so everyone can contribute ;)
What will you choose for this and why?
* Vue
* Svelte
* Marko
* Hyperapp
* maybe even Choo2 -
I started off on a go project last week, and I feel like I connect with go a lot. It reminds me of c++ and python at the same time! I was in a java project before this, with the spring framework, and I feel like I was intimidated by it! I don't know if that's what makes me feel so much better about go.. And to top it off, there is no "framework" as such that the project uses. It's really interesting! I have already learn't a lot, I look forward to learning more.1

Help me decide to choose between nestjs and Adonis js framework for node? I know laravel and angular so it makes hard for me to choose between the two.
Nestjs is angular inspired while Adonis js is laravel inspired. I only have experience with express framework. Thanks!3 -
New version, new regression tests. It's the first time I'm trying to run them fully automated. Tests were ok separately, but as it turns out, "random" generated number is not OK for creating unique names if it's being created from datetime (yymmddmmss), and tests run within one minute.
Also, new version broke our hack of disabling browser pop-up confirmations. Fuck.1 -
Are there any .Net developer here?
Need help. Our application created in visual studio 2003 using .net framework 1.1 suddenly showing "Failed to load resources from file. Please check setup." error when loading a form using a dll, also created in .net framework 1.1. This is only on windows 10 build 1703. On older builds, it is working fine.
Thanks!3 -
Thinking about making a small and simple pixel game in JS, I already have plenty of gfx.
Can anyone recommend a good, easy to learn Js gaming Framework ?
Many thx4 -
Just getting my hands on React.js the first time. I'm searching for good online tutorials - ideas anyone ? thx.2

I was looking at 2019 stateofjs survey. I'm really surprised with all this hate towards Angular. I've been using Angular for past 3 years now, and apart from the mess with versions, I think it's the most complete and beautiful framework out there. I get that not all the people like Angular that much as me but 38% satisfaction (compared to 78% for preact and 88% for svelte for example) in my opinion is craziness.

Those who are into web. What do you think is the best web framework? In terms of easy to set up, easy to learn easy to use and general pros and cons?5

[Serious] Senior Java Devs, one of the lead dinosaurs of my workplace convinced the higher-ups to make various applications from a new contract using a framework called ZK.
What do you think of this framework and what is your opinion of the overall feeling the java community have about it?
(I'm not personally found of this kind of approach to developing and I'm kinda new to the Java language)8 -
I am using materilize with react. Having one problem that when i goto to a navlink lets say to 1 and then goto navlink 2 and then come back to one i need to re run the jquery or Javascript so how can i do that?6

You know you've mastered a framework when you can help the offshore dev with errors and bugs without looking at anything.
-
I would like introduce Coffee First for Entity Framework in addition Code First, Model First and Database First without any cons.

I've recently completed the 1st phase development of a node js based web framework. Though I haven't completed the performance comparison check against other frameworks. But I believe it must be the fastest option. Your feedback will be helpful for further development.
