People: I will never put one of those smart speakers in my home! You're basically just putting in a microphone that will spy on you!
Also People: Hang on I have to grab my phone/high-fidelity microphone/high resolution camera/GPS tracker/Data Aggregator and make sure I have it with me literally everywhere I go, because who knows when I will want to comment on a cute picture of a cat!?13 -

@dFox really loving devRant, but I feel like the site should require text with picture posts or something. Noticed a trend where people are just using this as a meme aggregator instead of rant site.
Myself and many others try to give context to memes for ranting purposes, but I'm noticing some users are clearly after up votes.14 -
Hey ranters, I made an RSS feed reader for devRant feeds. Open up your favorite RSS reader app on your device and add http://devrant-rss.herokuapp.com/ for devRant feeds to be shown up. The project is open sourced at https://github.com/varundey/.... Any suggestions welcome :)3

I'm a backend developer who for the last year has been helping the iOS-, Android and Frontend team with rewriting their shit.
Now I got yelled at for not making any new features on the backend, and we need to ship fast. So my manager dropped all further work on our backend, since it clearly needed a rewrite, since there have been no new features which to him indicates bad code that is hard to change.
Now all the developers are rewriting their applications to fit the new backend created by some new guy, which for some reason is stuck in creating a log-aggregator from scratch instead of the actual product. -
Anyway Github has launched its app.
Positioning as a social network and trend aggregator is becoming increasingly clear.
It doesn't make much difference to me, I almost always prefer the web version and Github's works well.
But do you know what we really need?

Today we got our Sentry integration (exception aggregator with a lot of nice features) working just to see a user using IE5 on a Windows 2000 machine causing exceptions. It made my team’s day.1

Just finished rebuilding a personal website , pretty normal just a link aggregator I guess and I have got over 160 lines of vanilla CSS but only 15 lines of JavaScript. Is this normal lol ? I think I focus too much on design and "aesthetics" .4

Spent half a day trying to setup a proper javadoc aggregation mechanism for a multi module gargle project. Urgh.. Why isn't there a good plugin to do this?
Can someone help me if they are aware of an existing plugin that works for gargle to do this?
Tried nexus aggregator for gradle. Doesn't work -
I Used to scribble my thoughts on paper. It's haphazard yet handy. And even though I can't make corrections without crossing out or drawing arrows to transfer the reader to continuation of the thought on another page, I have this liberty to express myself and glance at a panoramic view before putting them in their final resting place –soft copy
Maybe my thought process became more efficient but I no longer need to flesh things out with ink. Database designs, implementation logic. Everything goes to a special file I create on every project for odds and ends
Until today
I have something to think about. I will miss connecting the dots if they appear in fancy fonts. I need to gradually build upon each outline, pursuing it in an exploratory manner until its possibilities are exhausted. I will draw a conclusion from their character arcs
For some reason, I see parallels between this scenario and sql vs nosql. This is one of those extreme cases where structured data storage is not sufficient. I sincerely doubt nosql should be used as a main database, but instead an intermediary for an aggregator to treat each row/record as a unique blob, extract necessary information into a sql for the actual system to work with
Sql is more sane and recommended for when you know the exact end goal but need help arriving there. Today, I'm confused and need to weigh options. I need to actually cross things out, not press the back button. It's a bit of a stretch but if this were data, it feels like what nosql would excel at2 -
Hi there, fellow ranters! I'm creating a project and need your feedback on it!

How would you create a mock for an Aggregator Microservice (stateless) which makes requests to other services for each request, transforms the data and then responds to the user?
I want to create a mock service where I don't t have to run the other services but it should create kinda realistic responses.
Have you had to create something like this?
I'd use it for testing another microservice that uses the aggregator.2 -
So I’ve been wanting to build my own web apps for a while now, but I can’t seem to find any info on the legal stuff that goes into that. I know at minimum I’ll need a privacy policy.
Like do I need a lawyer to get everything set up? I’m not talking about creating a startup. Just web apps that people can use, e.g. a casual budget app or content aggregator. Just looking for a side hustle for a little extra cash and some experience.
What about compliance with the tech I use? If I setup a freemium app, am I out of compliance with open source tech I’m using? Anyway sorry for the long post 😅3
