"I will go to sleep after i fix this bug" 10min later I look outside, North Korea and the USA are fighting a nuclear war, russia invaded europe, hitler rose from the death and there's even more javascript frameworks8

Me: we only got 40 minutes notice that we had to stay in late for a meeting with the USA team. Can we politely ask them to give us like a days notice in future? I can’t just stay late at any time, neither can the guys with kids to collect.
Manager: oh ok. I’m very sorry this has affected you. Here, let me explain why this is going to keep happening and you’ll need to deal with it.16 -
Mom : there's a letter for you. It's from USA. Are you in trouble ?
Me : oooouh shit what have I done ?
Fiuuuuu..NSA still not tracking my buggy code 😂10 -
When I was 14, I was bad at many things. I sucked at sports cause I was weak and small. School was boring so I did not study. I mostly played games.
During a summer break, I wanted to change shit in WarCraft 3, as I heard from a friend that heard it from a friend, that you can do that. Many internet searches later I realised that you kind of just tell to the game what you want it to do, just simplified. If (target is enemy) do damage, for (every human player) make sparkly stuff...
After months of "playing" games, the new school year started and I got, for the first time, a proper computer class. Imagine my surprise when we started doing the shit I did all summer. That year I had 100% on all tests.
Many years later programming gave me friends, made my inner nerd and geek come out, gave me a free trip to the USA to represent my country, two TEDx talks, and finally a job that I like with the pay I can live with.11 -
I'm a fucking finance girl. FINANCE. GIRL. Why the fuck am I spending all morning importing databases??
I'll tell you why.. "you are married to a dev. You must have picked something up." Fuck this. Fuck fuck fuck fuck. (no it's not working for the fuck of it, and whoever wrote this program deserves to be hanged by his balls from a tree)24 -
Fuck the imperial system. For centuries everyone used meters and kilograms to measure shit so why the FUCK did the U.S decide to use pounds and inches. Like i see most articles and videos comfortably using the metric system, EVERYTHING uses the metric system. then i stumble on an idiot who makes me go to a converter so I can understand his pound-inch-based lingo. FUCK YOU25

!(short rant)
Look I understand online privacy is a concern and we should really be very much aware about what data we are giving to whom. But when does it turn from being aware to just being paranoid and a maniac about it.? I mean okay, I know facebook has access to your data including your whatsapp chat (presumably), google listens to your conversations and snoops on your mail and shit, amazon advertises that you must have their spy system (read alexa) install in your homes and numerous other cases. But in the end it really boils down to "everyone wants your data but who do you trust your data with?"
For me, facebook and the so-called social media sites are a strict no-no but I use whatsapp as my primary chating application. I like to use google for my searches because yaa it gives me more accurate search results as compared to ddg because it has my search history. I use gmail as my primary as well as work email because it is convinient and an adv here and there doesnt bother me. Their spam filters, the easy accessibility options, the storage they offer everything is much more convinient for me. I use linux for my work related stuff (obviously) but I play my games on windows. Alexa and such type of products are again a big no-no for me but I regularly shop from amazon and unless I am searching for some weird ass shit (which if you want to, do it in some incognito mode) I am fine with coming across some advs about things I searched for. Sometimes it reminds me of things I need to buy which I might have put off and later on forgot. I have an amazon prime account because prime video has some good shows in there. My primary web browser is chrome because I simply love its developer tools and I now have gotten used to it. So unless chrome is very much hogging on my ram, in which case I switch over to firefox for some of my tabs, I am okay with using chrome. I have a motorola phone with stock android which means all google apps pre-installed. I use hangouts, google keep, google map(cannot live without it now), heck even google photos, but I also deny certain accesses to apps which I find fishy like if you are a game, you should not have access to my gps. I live in India where we have aadhar cards(like the social securtiy number in the USA) where the government has our fingerprints and all our data because every damn thing now needs to be linked with your aadhar otherwise your service will be terminated. Like your mobile number, your investment policies, your income tax, heck even your marraige certificates need to be linked with your aadhar card. Here, I dont have any option but to give in because somehow "its in the interest of the nation". Not surprisingly, this thing recently came to light where you can get your hands on anyone's aadhar details including their fingerprints for just ₹50($1). Fuck that shit.
tl;dr
There are and should be always exceptions when it comes to privacy because when you give the other person your data, it sometimes makes your life much easier. On the other hand, people/services asking for your data with the sole purpose of infilterating into your private life and not providing any usefulness should just be boycotted. It all boils down to till what extent you wish to share your data(ranging from literally installing a spying device in your house to them knowing that I want to understand how spring security works) and how much do you trust the service with your data. Example being, I just shared most of my private data in this rant with a group of unknown people and I am okay with it, because I know I can trust dev rant with my posts(unlike facebook).29 -

Why are Americans so stupid?
Date format: MM/dd/YY => what is this? It‘s not even in order
Length Units: Inch, Feet, Yard, Mile => good luck trying to convert in in a hurry without a calculator
Cooking recipes: cups, tablespoons, pinches => land of the freedom, especially for measurement errors
Temperature: Fahrenheit. => some dude who thought, „oh this is really hot, lets mark it 100“ and the other day „oh this is really cold, I got the 0 mark, sciene“
Weight: ounces ~ 28.34952 g, ton ~ maybe 907.xx kg, it depends
Time: Americans think the week starts on sunday, so they assume it does so for everyone else (f*** you american developer, designer, I mean you)
Football is football. Everywhere. In. The. World.
Politics: Trump, Weapons, health system, worker rights, ...
God, I hate America and their bs.39 -

Working for an indian code sweatshop. The job you've got by bribing the University headmaster to give you a degree without ever attending class. Your uncle who worked at the sweatshop as a manager already gave you the job by bribing his boss.
After a half a year on the bench you've beeing sent off for a contract for the USA. You moved to Seattle where you've "coded" the software for the Boeing 737 Max Airplane. Your code downed 2 airplanes. You're responsible for the death of 350+ people. You're alone and the US is foreign to you and you're missing your mothers indian food. And you wish you could soothe your pain with some freshly pressed sugar cane drink and a jalebi from your favorite food joint back home.8 -
We were starting a libre software project and needed some basic stuff like email accounts, cloud storage, calendars for scheduling, etc. So we start to talk about using services that didn't agreed the patriotic act of the USA. That lead to the omnipresent topic of Google's control over our lives. Then we moved to Microsoft's crimes against humanity for preinstalling windows, and at the time when we were discussing if Steve Jobs were a fraud or just a salesman, we realized it was getting late and we had nothing set or even decided. So we create a Google account and went home.4

So I host a few mining pools and some of the stories we hear from miners can be quite interesting. One of our miners recently had his front door busted off the hinges and a drug bust team go into his house and turn the house upside down. How did they determine that he was a threat for growing illegal drugs? Well he had a high power bill because of the miners and he grows flowers and food inside of his house and that was enough for THE NYPD to get a warrant.
Now he is responsible for cleaning up the mess the police made. What scares me the most is that they are tracking soil you buy online along with high power bills. What the hell USA im a proud Canadian8 -
God I'm fucking done for today.
We just finished a "Climate-conference-simulation" in school.
Basically ~90 students split into 6 groups representing a delegation of a country or a group of countries.
EU,
USA,
India,
China,
Other developing countries,
Other industrial countries
The target of our efforts was the reduction of global warming from ~4 C° by 2100 to around 2 C°.
My group (USA) elected me to speak and represent (I did kind of mimic the American stereotype of being egoistic and self centered, no offence intended)
As all the other nations and groups were planning great schemes, my group simply continued to put, well, basically rocks in their path by not playing along cause aforementioned stereotype.
It's the working phase after the second presentation of results, I'm sitting there with parts of the Chinese and EU delegation and suddenly two of my friends, in different groups, put my hood over my head, drag/carry me out of the assembly hall, toss me out and leave me there.
Was funny and all, but damn, it's fucking exhausting to stand in front of around 100 people (including teachers and stuff) and completely not play along with the other group's opinions and plans.
But hey, I've been congratulated a lot of times cause I've perfectly stayed in my role.
Yes it was weird19 -

If programming languages were countries, which country would each language represent?
Disclaimer: its just a joke
Java: USA -- optimistic, powerful, likes to gloss over inconveniences.
C++: UK -- strong and exacting, but not so good at actually finishing things and tends to get overtaken by Java.
Python: The Netherlands. "Hey no problem, let'sh do it guysh!"
Ruby: France. Powerful, stylish and convinced of its own correctness, but somewhat ignored by everyone else.
Assembly language: India. Massive, deep, vitally important but full of problems.
Cobol: Russia. Once very powerful and written with managers in mind; but has ended up losing out.
SQL and PL/SQL: Germany. A solid, reliable workhorse of a language.
Javascript: Italy. Massively influential and loved by everyone, but breaks down easily.
Scala: Hungary. Technically pure and correct, but suffers from an unworkable obsession with grammar that will limit its future success.
C: Norway. Tough and dynamic, but not very exciting.
PHP: Brazil. A lot of beauty springs from it and it flaunts itself a lot, but it's secretly very conservative.
LISP: Iceland. Incredibly clever and well-organised, but icy and remote.
Perl: China. Able to do apparently almost anything, but rather inscrutable.
Swift: Japan. One minute it's nowhere, the next it's everywhere and your mobile phone relies on it.
C#: Switzerland. Beautiful and well thought-out, but expect to pay a lot if you want to get seriously involved.
R: Liechtenstein. Probably really amazing, especially if you're into big numbers, but no-one knows what it actually does.
Awk: North Korea. Stubbornly resists change, and its users appear to be unnaturally fond of it for reasons we can only speculate on.17 -

When searching for internship via school I found this small startup with this cute project of building a teaching tool for programming. There were back then 2 programmers: the founder and the co-founder.
Then like 1 week before the internship started, the co-founder had a burnout and had to get off the project, while the company was so low on budget the founder, aka my new b0ss, had to work separate jobs to keep the company alive. (quite metal tbh)
It's funny because I'm a junior developer, 100%. I've been coding as a hobby for around 8 years now but I've never worked in a big company before. (No exception to this workplace either)
First project I get: rewrite the compiler. The Python compiler.
"But wait, why not just embed a real compiler from the first case?"
-nanananana it's never simple, as you probably know from your own projects.
The new compiler, as compared to existing embedded compiler solutions out there, needed these prime features:
- Walk through the code (debugger style), but programmatically.
- Show custom exceptions (ex: "A colon is needed at the end of an if-statement" instead of "Syntax error line 3")
- Have a "Did-you-mean this variable?" error for usage of unassigned variables.
- Be able to be embedded in Unity's WebGL build target
All for the use case of being a friendly compiler.
The last dash in the list is actually the biggest bottleneck which excluded all existing open-source projects (i could find). Compliant with WebAssembly I can't use threads among other things, IL2CPP has lots of restrictions, Unity has some as well...
Oh and it should of course be built using test-driven development.
"Good luck!" - said the founder, first day of work as she then traveled to USA for **3 weeks**, leaving me solo with the to-be-made codebase and humongous list of requirements.
---
I just finished the 6th week of internship, boss has been at "HQ" for 3 weeks now, and I just hit the biggest milestone yet for this project.
Yes I've been succeeding! This project has gone so well, and I'm surprising myself how much code I've been pumping out during these weeks.
I'm up now at almost 40'000 lines of source and 30'000 lines of code. ‼
( Biggest project I've ever worked on previously was at 8'000 lines of code )
The milestone (that I finished today) was for loops! As been trying to showcase in the GIF.
---
It's such a giant project and I can honestly say I've done some good work here. Self-five. Over-performing is a thing.
The things that makes me shiver though is that most that use this application will never know the intricates of it's insides, and the brain work put into it.
The project is probably over-engineered. A lot. Having a home-made compiler gives us a lot of flexibility for our product as we're trying to make more of a "pedagogic IDE". But no matter that I reinvented the wheel for the 105Gth time, it's still the most fun I've had with a project to date.
---
Also btw if anyone wants to see source code, please give me good reasons as I'm actively trying to convince my boss to make the compiler open-source.
Cheers!4 -

Since I'm working for 3 years as a parttime software engineer, I started to feel my tendon sheath more and more, sometimes it was hurting so I decided to have a look around on ergonomic keyboards, because in the office we only have these flat, thin wireless keyboards which are the fucking opposite of ergonomic.
They feel like when Eddie Scissorhands has to cut hair of a pile of rocks.
So after some reviews I decided to buy a Kinesis Advantage2 (made in the USA of Americas) eventhough it is quite expensive (379 Kanuckistan Kopeks).
I must say this keyboard is fucking well engineered. You can remap every key in a few keypresses and it is stored on the keyboard itself, no software required... awesome!
The disadvantage for me is, being pretty tall I have very wide shoulders so the 2 keyboard pits are a bit too close together in my oppinion.
The other thing is, you really have to get used to it... I am slowly advancing in speed and it feels great. No pain anymore and I don't have to move my hands at all.
So what are your experiences with keyboards and does your workplace have a good setup for staying healthy?19 -
My worst experience was at my job where they told me I have to move to a permanent position from 3 years of contracting without a specific offer.
Why is that bad? In my country it means approximatly 40% lower wage.
I came into the job with PHP knowledge when they were looking for Perl on a project one year behind schedule. I learned the language and finished working demo in 6 weeks.
After that, every project that was ever assigned to me was done within 5-15% of the allocated time. I'm not kidding here. My manager loved be, because I was reliable, fast and I even 'accidentaly' solved other problems, like for instance I developed simple syslog search tool and benchmarked zip algos for reading speed, and the fastest had 70% better compression than the algo used before (gzip into plzip on 1-2gb files). That solved anothet problem - syslog servers did not have enough disk space and they didn't have money to upgrade the server.
The number of projects I touched or developed was over 20.
I also lead and developed our team's most successful tool, that every customer was throwing money to buy, while cutting down costs everywhere.
And after three years of that, my manager says that there are no more money for contractors. And the only possibility is going for employment. Without any specific offer! Just 'we cant do this anymore'.
Which I understand, that can happen in corporation, but ffs after all I've done, I expected warmer attitude. Not like 'you may have to leave, since we do not really care'.
I liked the people there, even though the corporation environment was lacking in many respects, but I wanted to help our local branch with everything I could and they gave up on me like that.
So I started looking elsewhere and I found a startup which offered 6 times the money I had in my previous job and promises to relocate me to USA. Which is the best thing that has happened to me that year and second best in my whole life!3 -
FUCK BITCOIN! YOU CAN'T BY ANY GRAPHICS CARD IN RUSSIA BECAUSE OF THEM! THANK GOD I'M MOVING TO USA12

I live in the USA. Recently moved to a new state. Contacted car insurance company to change my policy to the new state.
Upon doing so, I was told about a new program they have where you install an app on your phone that monitors your driving. It gives discounts to your premium for driving safely.
Intrigued, I decided to try it out. At the end of the month, my discount was TWO DOLLARS.
Uninstalled, not worth the surrender of personal information that they profit off of in addition to my premium payments as well as the drained battery every day.
Disillusioned, again.
Has anyone else had experiences with similar discount programs, and was it worth it for you? Maybe I’m just a shitty driver ;).17 -
The internet is expensive as hell compared with salaries, we can't access to services like amazon, google cloud, gitlab, private github, Android, and a lot more because of USA sanctions (we have to do some magic and sorcery to use them), and in the other hand our government applys restrictive laws (we call it the double embargo) like that one who says that you can't host services for the country with international providers, and the only national hosting provider has a terrible, feature-less and super expensive service. But hey, we like a lot what we do!!

Disclaimer: This is not a Windows hate rant as this problem has been solved by Microsoft(partially).
I went to a hackathon last year at an engineering college. It was not such grand hackathon as people have in USA or Europe. So I entered in this competition trying to develop a medical app which asks the user detail about his/her problems then asks questions to match the symptoms of diseases. So me and a guy(who isn't a coder) tried to develop that app. He provided the data of diseases, I tried to develop kind of AI app with those data but found that job too hard for one day hackathon. So I wrote an email for api medic for their api which I was going to use. I then coded continuously for 4 hours in Android studio for the android app. The event manager told us late in the day that repo had been made for the hackathon and we must push our codes before 12 that night. The event manager provided the repo very late that day maybe around 6. I did a big mistake not creating my own repo on github to save every code I had written from time to time.(After this e vent whatever I code I save it in a repo). I was running Windows 10 on one of my laptop and ubuntu on my another. Due to some divine badluck I was using my Windows 10 laptop on that hackathon. So around maybe 10 I was about to wrap up the day push the code to repo. I went to getself a cup of coffee and returned to find lo and behold fucking BSOD. I was fucked, it was my first hackathon so made another misatake of using emulator rather than my android phone. My Android phone was not responding good that day so I used the android emulator.
From that day on I do three things:
1. Always push my projects to github repo.
2. Use android phone after running some minor tests on emulator.
3. Never use windows(Happy arch user till eternity.)
You might be thinking even though BSOD, it can be recovered. But didn't happen in my case, the windows revert back to the time I had just upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10.3 -
FUCKING google doesn't allow our country to buy FUCKING partner or reseller program.
So what the fuck do we do as an agency, we have to fucking treat every domain and google business suites as seperate entities.
WHAT THE FUCK IS THE SHIT WITH THAT?
WE HAVE TO FUCKING KNOW THEIR ADMIN PASSWORD TO FUCKING MANAGE THEIR GOOGLE SUITE ACCOUNTS.
IT IS A FUCKING NIGHTMARE.
I HATE GOOGLE FOR THAT REASON ALONE.
I can care less of how much data you gonna steal from me.4 -
So we've been working with a VM at a university course I'm taking during semester break. Keyboard layout was QWERTY instead of QWERTZ, and I'm not used to the first layout, but no problem, I can fix that.
Or so I thought.
So I spend nearly half an hour trying to configure the VM to use the desired layout without altering the Ubuntu instance that much - only to then suddenly discover a small USA flag in the corner of the panel bar which could be changed by clicking once to the German flag.
This also changed the keyboard layout instantly.
So, yay, I guess. D:5 -
Humph. Just remembered something pretty cool. Last year I had a great math teacher and tech teacher. My class on the other hand: not great except my friends. We were being taught c++ in tech class and man were these kids the laziest i've ever seen. Just creeping up behind me and copying the code. Tech teacher walks up and opens up stack overflow on the kid's pc and walks away. Later during math class our teacher overhears kids talking about pokemon go. She then gets really excited and talks about how fun ar is to code and asks if any of the kids need c++ help. Turns out she had quit a dev position to become a teacher and give back to the community. She left halfway through the schoolyear because she was pregnant though. Needless to say most of my class caught the coding bug and it was thanks to both those teachers. The math teacher came back at the beginning of the year but then I moved back to the USA.
-
So Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon and many others just gave $50mil (each) for CS education in USA. The program is intended to help minorities and kids in highschool learn coding.
That's pretty awesome. Say what you will about these companies but they do some really great things sometimes.
Also, Ivanka Trump was helping this along. I'm not a fan of the trump administration but still, that's awesome!7 -
This isn't exactly a rant, more of a plea for help... And it probably needs to be quickly too.
I recently had an author and maintainer of a project with whom I collaborate with tell me that they are going to transfer the project to me due to the fact that they wish to end their life.
I know very little about them other than three online accounts (Skype, Reddit, GitHub), their email account (from their GitHub account), the fact that they live in the USA. I don't even know their true name.
I have no idea what to do, and there isn't exactly any help for this kind of situation (it's always "contact your local authority" online), but I don't think that the UK police have any authority in the USA.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I've already contacted the Cambridge police in Massachusetts via email (I have no method of calling internationally), but I haven't been able to do anything else so far.18 -
Top gripes about getting older as I'm about to turn 40:
5. Actually starting to have moments at home after work where I'm contemplating saying 'Hey babe, wanna bang?' but before I can get the words out my body pipes in with 'Dude, cool your jets, we're wiped out today; check back tomorrow.' Women say they like older guys because <insert character trait here> but I'm now convinced it's just because they know there's less work involved. =/
4. Friends with young children. I hardly ever see them anymore, and when I do, all they talk about are their kids and their shitty relationship with their co-parent. The circle continues to get smaller...
3. Having to go get glasses in order to renew my driver's license. How do we not have a heads-up display in every vehicle by now that shows the street numbers of buildings as I'm perpendicular to them as well as the names of upcoming cross streets? That way I'd fix the problem the way I do for everything else: notch up the font scaling on my display a point or two. Elon, you're slipping...
2. Realizing that the "American Dream" isn't worth the paper it was printed on. (Anyone else remember paying 97¢ for a gallon of gas or $2 for a pack of Marlboros?) Concurrent realization: It's not easy to find work in another country without moving there first, even if you speak the language. Any devs in Portugal that read this, ligue-me.
1. Being too busy to just chat with new people I meet except on rare occasion. Mostly referring to work time here, when it seems I'm always needing to find the shortest route to the objectif du jour. If I could tell my teenage self just one piece of advice, it'd probably be "start your career in Europe, not the USA" but I really want it to be "treasure the time you spend on IRC talking about anything and everything with people that always have time for you and vice versa, because it's going to be over before you know it." -
Worst experience: being laid off when the startup I worked for lost a deal. I loved that project :(
Best experience: my new company sent me to USA for a few days to meet the client. I've gained a lot more of confidence on my spoken English. I've didn't use it in years, so I was worried. Perhaps you wouldn't think it's a "dev" experience, but English is actually a required skill for a developer who has it as a second language.1 -
Just got accepted as a volunteer (teacher assistant) in a non-profit organization, funded by Microsoft.
They teach high school students CS twice a week.
I know it might not be much, because I will not be payed, but I will be trained and teach alongside Google and Microsoft engineers.
The organization is called TEALS.
I hope it is a good experience and build a good network.
I do not have any friends, nor any engineer friend since I moved in USA, so I think this is a good opportunity.
P.S. Please for the love of god do not bash here Microsoft. Everyone, even the people who rant about hating Microsoft, will accept a job there if they got the chance. So please stop the hypocrisy if you intend to do some "sarcastic" comment about this organization funded by Microsoft.9 -
I have seen in a lot of forums (here, Imgur, reddit, LinkedIn etc) that there are a lot of developers without a job.
And most of them live in USA. I have not seen a person who is struggling to find a job in EU or some other place.
Why is this the case? In USA where the demand for developers is very high.
I read a post on LinkedIn: "40 INTERVIEWS and no one HIRED! Yet another friend telling me she can not find good talent. My thinking - If you interviewed 40 people and did not hire someone, then it's time to look in the mirror. The problem is recruiters and hiring managers are looking for the 'PERFECT" candidate. NEWSFLASH! There is no 'perfect' candidate. If you have someone with the right attitude and skill set, and they fit in with the team, why not HIRE them? There are so many qualified individuals still job searching. Yet I see the same jobs re-posted, over and over again, being left vacant for months. Who took a chance on you? Maybe it's time you a took chance on someone."
I don't think it is the "competition" because I see everywhere. I have seen entry-level or JR. open positions that are not filled for months.
It took me 1 month, sending nearly 20 applications every day to find a job in USA.
And the second one I got lucky. I applied in Europe and after some month I got transferred in offices in USA.
I do not know how true this is, but seriously, what's wrong with companies in USA that require the PERFECT candidate. Or is it something else?19 -
So the devRant stickers are finally here all the way from USA. Thanks devRant for these. Absofuckinglutely loved them. 😍

Trying to get part time or remote mobile app development job in Milan.
Somehow got a job interview for a company based in USA for remote work. Cleared 3 rounds, got the final contract. For the final assessment, had to make changes in their existing project. Didn't get proper answer to my queries on time. Submitted results as per understanding. Got a rejection mail rn.
It was going on for 3 weeks and all my hopes were based on that.
Feeling Fcuked up.

Get ready for a awesome conspiracy theory/ WhatsApp forward :D i like how people are coming with new stuff every minute of their boredom . Makes you ponder:

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
How to dominate the world quickly?
THE GREAT CHINESE STAGE
1. Create a virus and the antidote.
2. Spread the virus.
3. A demonstration of efficiency, building hospitals in a few days. After all, you were already prepared, with the projects, ordering the equipment, hiring the labor, the water and sewage network, the prefabricated building materials and stocked in an impressive volume.
4. Cause chaos in the world, starting with Europe.
5. Quickly plaster the economy of dozens of countries.
6. Stop production lines in factories in other countries.
7. Cause stock markets to fall and buy companies at a bargain price.
8. Quickly control the epidemic in your country. After all, you were already prepared.
9. Lower the price of commodities, including the price of oil you buy on a large scale.
10. Get back to producing quickly while the world is at a standstill. Buy what you negotiated cheaply in the crisis and sell more expensive what is lacking in countries that have paralyzed their industries.
After all, you read more Confucius than Karl Marx.
PS: Before laughing, read the book by Chinese colonels Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui, from 1999, “Unrestricted Warfare: China’s master plan to destroy America”, on Amazon, then we talk. It's all there.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Worth pondering..
Just Think about this...
How come Russia & North Korea are totally free of Covid- 19? Because they are staunch ally of China. Not a single case reported from this 2 countries. On the other hand South Korea / United Kingdom / Italy / Spain and Asia are severely hit. How come Wuhan is suddenly free from the deadly virus?
China will say that their drastic initial measures they took was very stern and Wuhan was locked down to contain the spread to other areas. I am sure they are using the Anti dode of the virus.
Why Beijing was not hit? Why only Wuhan? Kind of interesting to ponder upon.. right? Well ..Wuhan is open for business now. America and all the above mentioned countries are devastated financially. Soon American economy will collapse as planned by China. China knows it CANNOT defeat America militarily as USA is at present
THE MOST POWERFUL country in the world. So use the virus...to cripple the economy and paralyse the nation and its Defense capabilities. I'm sure Nancy Pelosi got a part in this. . to topple Trump. Lately President Trump was always telling of how GREAT American economy was improving in all fronts. The only way to destroy his vision of making AMERICA GREAT AGAIN is to create an economic havoc. Nancy Pelosi was unable to bring down Trump thru impeachment. ....so work along with China to destroy Trump by releasing a virus. Wuhan,s epidemic was a showcase. At the peak of the virus epidemic. ..
China's President Xi Jinping...just wore a simple RM1 facemask to visit those effected areas. As President he should be covered from head to toe.....but it was not the case. He was already injected to resist any harm from the virus....that means a cure was already in place before the virus was released.
Some may ask....Bill Gates already predicted the outbreak in 2015...so the chinese agenda cannot be true. The answer is. ..YES...Bill Gates did predict. .but that prediction is based on a genuine virus outbreak. Now China is also telling that the virus was predicted well in advance. ....so that its agenda would play along well to match that prediction. China,s vision is to control the World economy by buying up stocks now from countries facing the brink of severe ECONOMIC COLLAPSE. Later China will announce that their Medical Researchers have found a cure to destroy the virus. Now China have other countries stocks in their arsenal and these countries will soon be slave to their master...CHINA.
Just Think about it ...
The Doctor Who declared this virus was also Silenced by the Chinese Authorities...18 -

You all complaining about shit code from coworkers and about fucking WordPress. Looks different, but know what? Answer is the same.
Money.
Let me explain.
For example, you were born in USA. You can choose any profession, and if you became pro - you will be payed great. Looks nice, isn't it?
But if you were born in Russia, India, somewhere in Africa, whatever, you can be businessman, coder or you can suck a dick to the end of you life.
Not that great, yeah?
You are looking around and see great people with their own dreams and talents. But then you ask them "to which faculty are you going?" Answer is obvious. And that's how shitcoders are born.
And yeah, about WordPress. I'm mobile developer, I just can't understand how awful it is (or not, idunno). The only thing I know - if I were PHP developer, I could earn twice more than now. But why I didn't choose that way? Because I REALLY LOVE MY WORK. Everyday is good, I'm working at weekends often, because I want.
So please, shut up. You could never work with WordPress, but you motherfucker CHOOSE IT. You could switch to node, go, Java. Why the flying fuck you didn't? Oh yeah, MONEY. So please, shut up.
Devrant isn't for crying girls complaining about shit they did themselves. (No sexism, just metaphor, sorry girls)10 -
serious question - is a fucking project ever finished and put away or is it common in the dev world to redo the same fucking pointless shit over and over again?4

WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK. What is this dude talking about?! What am I doing with my life?!?!
Test what? What do I have to do? I didn't study this. I don't know what this API thing is. My life sucks. My job sucks. I suck. I'm stupid, because apparently knowing who or what this API is is essential for being a normal part of society.
I don't even.. oh someone pls kill me.
(No I don't want a detailed explanation what I have to do - I know this is not google and i wont understand it anyways and my husband will torture me with it in the afternoon. Just some sympathy for a finance person who has to deal with this would be nice)9 -
Bought my wife a new laptop. She's a windows user so I had to go that way.
First, windows 10 now requires you log in to a new installation using a Microsoft login. You can remove it later but you need one to start. <gnashes teeth>
Then, because I chose to use a phone number to set up the Microsoft account, it created the home folder using the first 5 digits of the phone number, including the 1 country code for USA. <gnashes teeth #2>
Finally manage to get the initial set up out of the way and go to copy files from her old laptop which I can see in the "Network" area in explorer but when I click on it am told it doesn't exist <gnashes teeth #3>
Eventually realize that something needs to be shared on the old laptop so the new one can "see" it.
All the while I kept muttering, "Why the fuck does Microsoft make everything so simple so damned difficult?"22 -
So here it's time to save world again. From 2 things now.
1. USA government trying to ruin encryption on internet once again.
2. COVID-19
First point is for USA people. Please look into it and call your senators and make people aware of the fucking issue. Internet privacy and safety is on the fucking line.
Second point for everyone.
Another virus I hear. Sure but this one is much more dangerous.
What can you do against it ?
Firstly wash your hands and all that safety stuff.
Now to the fun part of it.
Do you have spare PC at home or just PC ? Yes you lost likely do.
Great.
Then if you want you can join Folding at Home project.
This is where your PC is used to fold viruses and try to find a cure for it.
Sounds cool right ? It is.
And it is very easy to set up.
I'm not going to explain it here but download. Run. Configure and fold. Easy as that.11 -
1.Pass my final tests (A levels -> i think thats the name of them in usa)

4.Learn more programming, electronics, ect. -
You may not like GDPR but it will change one important thing - american companies will stop email spam. Srsly, in Europe you always had to check box that you want marketing spam. USA companies always worked in opt-out mode, which is soooo annoying1

Somebody ranted about his teacher showing windows presentation and teaching nothing. I wanted to comment that post but i have enough material to make the whole rant out of it.
Well at least you have those presentations! In my school we have 2 IT classrooms one with win xp, 1ghz cpu, 0,5gb ram computers and one with win vista, 2 core 2ghz cpu and 2gb of ram PCs.
Guess what room our teacher is using... of course the worse one! The second one is fine, few years ago another theacher had been using it!
I tried to convince him to change rooms but he is coming up with silly exciuses! (like "server is not working here!", well i fixed it with my friend but why are you even talking about it when you are not using yours in old class!)
PS. That server is useless anyway, every pc is connected to router that is connected to internet so supervisor pc is not mandatory, only acces restriction is enforced by win accounts.
I heard from students from my class (that picked that optional IT course) (i'm in high school) that gimp is not working because pc's are so bad!
Sometimes even notepad frezzes.🤔
Not only class is shite but teacher clearly has no idea what is he doing. (in order to pass the final from IT you need to learn simple C++, up to simple foo objects) and of course he isn not even talking about that! On one lesson about sorting algorithms he gave everybody 10 small pieces of paper with numbers on them and told everybody to sort them manualy, because he didnt know how to do it himself! So there is no doubt they wont be able code it.
I need to mention that i volontered to "clean, fix" that classroom (in order to convince teacher to move). And in that class i saw programms written in c++ on every computer! That means somebody was teaching propely before! 😣
I feel sorry for those guys, they are just waisting time. I would fall for it as well but i decided i can learn coding in home ;).
Well, results are shocking, after 1 month of coding i learned C# and i can basicly make any algorithm i ever wish. I learned about computer operation so well that i can nearly teach computer science. (i helped my friend in usa that is a electronic student with that and i'm very proud of it 😁) and it class still can't even use all 3 loops correctly... 😥 Ok i must admit i have been coding for a looooong while so i had time to learn basic c,c++ and pc operations before, but point still stands.
Why the hell are you wasting life of those studends? Why are you giving them a choice to learn coding WHEN YOU CANT EVEN USE PC YOURSELF?! (that it course is optional so you can apply if you want so)
I dont regret not bothering about it.1 -

Thanks DevRant for sending these stickers to Singapore all be way from USA!!
Really lovin these stickers!!1 -
So as some of you may know from my previous rants I am recently single, and it occured to me that that means I can move, like, anywhere. And I think I might just do that. I'm currently in in Utah, USA, living about 50 miles from where I was raised, and I'm kinda sick of it.
Sooooo... Suggestions? I have been thinking about maybe the UK or Germany, or if I stay in the US maybe San Diego, Denver, or New York City, but I am open to many possibilities. What do you guys think?15 -
Just a random thought.. instead of sending stickers (or the stress ball for that matter) from USA to someone in India, why can't there be distributed 3D printing services spread across the globe, so that it's just a matter of delegating the delivery to local deliver services in the country/city? Sounds like an idea? 🤔2

You know what, I think the USA government just had a Windows Update, oh no wait, their versions of Windows are too old, they ain’t attacked by MS anymore.
-
I would replace it completely with industry apprenticeship, along with every other major. Education in the USA has become a scam designed to mine children for debt. If we're shackling kids to their student loans we at least owe them relevance in their chosen workplace.
Germany apparently let's people choose apprenticeship over university for work such as engineering. Does anyone know more about that? Does it work? Would it work for programmers?5 -
I remember I couldn't compile a clean Xamarin Forms project on Visual Studio because of a System.TimeZoneInfoNotFoundException. The workaround?, changed my time zone to Central time USA-Canada. So apparently it is not allowed to use Xamarin in the third world...1

I'm going to Texas in a few months for an international competition. What are some do-s and don't-s in Texas (or USA in general)?9

I always dreamed to live in USA. Waking at the morning and see those huge buildings, eating pancakes while I cover myself from the cold. For a while I forgot this my old dream of travel from my Portuguese home to somewhere on Texas or California. Since I am in my last year of university, after being student worker and after 6years being graphic designer and 3 them as full stack developer, I trully believe in doing this...5

Fuck the Fourth of July.
I was already feeling pretty unpatriotic after all the terrible things the USA has been doing lately, and then to top it all off, they closed down almost every street within a one-mile radius of my apartment just because I happen to live near the place where they're shooting off fireworks. I spent the evening with my girlfriend, enjoying a nice dinner and sort of forgetting it was even really a holiday, then got in my car at 9:00 expecting to be home by 9:30. Nope. I spent over an hour driving in a huge circle around my apartment, searching for even one single road that the police hadn't closed to traffic. Finally managed to get into the area on a back road and get home, but it took so long that I went through all five stages of grief before I got home at 11:00.
They also closed the nearest bridge across the river so I couldn't go shopping for groceries today, either. My pantry is almost completely empty. At least I'm working from home tomorrow so I'll have time to buy food then.8 -
Ranters in the US, do y'all want to try to organize a meetup? I'll be visiting the US in a while (hopefully, that is), so not anytime soon, but maybe we can at least form a group and discuss possible opportunities.14

I tried to watch netflix ‘13 Reasons Why’ series after reading article about ‘scientists found a 13.3 percent increase in teenagers’ deaths from suicide”
source: https://theverge.com/2019/5/...
I started scrolling trough the show after second episode cause it was so boring and predictable.
Maybe I’m just to old or maybe don’t understand USA school system or maybe I watched way to many typical movies about how the ‘popular group of teenagers’ make other teenagers life a nightmare ( Including scary movie and Venezuelan telenovelas ).
Can anybody who got interested into the show write why it is so cool or depressing ?10 -
Just today I lost a lawsuit because my contract was written and signed in Nigeria and I sued them in the USA and I couldn't convince the judge it was fraud. I transformed the company implenting SAP and office365 and a WAN and many other projects. Worked nearly every single day 3 years in a row even during vacations, public holidays and holidays. Lost over 400k USD in lost benefits and wages that were in the contract but never paid. I feel absolutely devastated.
Unless you work for a US or European based company never ever work in Nigeria.5 -
Any U.S. Americans here who can confirm the stories about "U.S. Americans beginning to stock Up on guns and ammo"?

How to fit a WiFi lightswitch..
Spend hours finding someone who actually makes one for 2 wire switches..
Order..
Wait 6 weeks for it to arrive..
Find out the switch is that little bit too big to fit where the old light switch was..
Bend metal box pieces out of the way, file, bend some more, break pieces off, file more..
It fits !
Kinda..
3mm of it doesn't fit..
Oh well, a good excuse to buy a finger plate to fill the gap up..
Pity you can't get a Science Fiction finger plate, something like Star Trek for example.. (Well, you can get USA ones, just not UK ones!)
Screws supplied are the wrong size and don't fit..
Good thing I've the old screws, but they need washers..
Trip to garage later..
It's pretty, has a nice little blue light when its on. (Comes with a warning about not to use without a bulb.. so what happens when the bulb blows ? luckily for me it feeds two lights, so the chances of both bulbs not working at once is..)
Haven't even began to approach the issue of how to program it, so I can say 'Computer lights' and they come on.
No doubt in a 2 years time I'll have it working..
Just as its warranty runs out. :-)

!tech (maybe)
just having a stream of woke moments and thought i should share.
1. about IDEs. When someone tells you "you are wrong" , you ask them why. But when someone tells you "You are wrong, here's the correct way to do this" , you might not be as tempted to ask them why as to just accept their solution without much research.
in the latter scenario, you will end up like a robot with just mugged up knowledge base of things being fed to them .
Sometimes i think jetbrains have understood it and they are more and more trying to make me their robot bitch , when it highlights my code as yellow and wants me to change. Thus its very important to research and not just say "because my IDE gave me a warning for writing code like that"
----------------------------------------
2. About governments : I like cold fusion videos, and recently saw this one on huawei vs usa : https://youtu.be/HExhxPDOewE
Just having this thought that country government treats themselves like some billionare family elders and their companies like their children. They think that we are rich because of our children doing great business at home and outside and give motivational talks /leverages to their children (as in china giving tech talk about wanting to be world's most powerful by 2025 amongst its companies) .
They are equally jealous of other countries gaining power and don't wanna see them rise. Like USA thinking "I am giving business to china's son huawei. how come that china threaten my power by the money i gave it to them" and so it attacked china's child huawei.
The reason could be either being jealous/scared of other country's growth, being protective of their own country , some genuine concern or any other thing, but they would just make small scale wounds like this, not a direct blow or total cutoff.
---------------------------------------------------
3. about life. Every system is broken. Every person/place/thing you think you can rely on is unreliable. There is no certainty of anything and probability rules the world. You can either whine about it or adjust to it for your own personal growth.
I have always whined about how shitty my college is and how the teachers suck and not doing their jobs. That's a small part of reality : In actual, no one whom you expect to do you good is doing it correctly : government is super corrupt and ain't doing their job of keeping people safe and healthy, your parents might not able to provide you a stable future, your college might not teach you beneficial stuff, your partner might not give you as happiness as you want, NOTHING. keep whining about it and keep losing
But another point of view is redefining the expectations . YOU ARE A HUMAN WITH AN ABILITY TO HEAR ,THINK AND ACT . so that's what you should be doing. the whole world , your parents, your teachers, your government, everyone around you is supposed to give you directions and small tips that you are supposed to hear , research, think and act on them.
In that manner, everyone but you is doing their job correctly: For me, My college gave me shitty teachers, but they would provide labs with internet and books with buzzwords, and seniors with good paying jobs . I was supposed to use them to find a path in my life that would be interesting and paying .
The parents are not supposed to create an empire for their children, rather support them in their endeavors
The government um... i guess is supposed to be shitty? So that native small scale companies can grow, provide employment and let people generate revenues. Can't think much about that, woke moment is over

Welp, who wants to see my first website? tiny.cc/copo
It was made almost entirely during english class, for blocked games. It's the most hits I've ever got one a site I've made. But the best part? I achieved my goal: respect from the teachers. And why did they respect me? *Because it got blocked*. Yup, across the entire county (our county is one of the top five in the USA for schools I believe). We, as the students, found a way around the teacher's technological control, and finally got some technological freedom. Just a small story.
P.S. not named by me, and sorry bout that JS redirect. I redesigned it while I was supposed to be writing about the theme but the original is couchpotato not cppremium. I can't change it now but I'll change it later. I trust you guys know how to stop it without me changing it though :)8 -

Hi guys. Have a question about working in USA as a foreigner (EU national). Next year I plan on coming to work in the US under H1B visa in a big company where I will have opportunity to apply for EB3 green card after 6 months of working there. Lets say I get the green card in 2-3 years and Im finally free from my first work in US. How hard it would be for me to find another job in there? I mean I will have few years of experience under my belt so thats fine. But what about education which was acquired not in USA? Like I dont have a GED or a bachelors degree from US. Is it true that without US education most of employers wont even consider to invite me for an interview?3

Question to the Americans here..
Just out of interest.
How many of you know the metric system?
I feel like as a dev you need to know it to communicate with the rest of the world on the same level. But I meet so many Americans that have no clue how metric even works.. (as if it was less logical than imperial 😄)
No offense, just truely curious..11 -
When I was in school days I didnt like computers that much. I knew how to use them but thought classes were lame.
It was a couple of years ago, in the last year of my first computers-related career (here there's no computer science like in USA). It was in the initial stages of my graduation project and our teacher took a look at our database design, fixed it all. And explained:
"The better you designed your database, the easier it'll be to code the project" Explained to us the importance of database normalization and all that.
I really understood it all and discovered finally what was the thing I was studying and how to do software.
From that day, in my early 20s, I've been loving software and knew this is my thing.
Same feeling 6 years later.2 -
One of my student ask me this. I dont have exact answer so i decided to take help professionals here and based on their experiences i hope they can help him and many people who has similar questions.
Is it necessary to have graduation from USA to work in USA Or canada?
What are the possibilities to get an internship or job in US market without having education from USA?
Please comments.18 -
I wanted to create a messenger bot.
Time to create the bot: 15 minutes. I test it, everything works, I send request, receive response, and so on.
Time to embed it inside a messenger app: 3 fucking hours.

What is a send/receive? What have I to pay for? Why I need to be a USA citizen? Why I need approval? Approval for what? Why you say I configured the app correctly if you never call the Hooker? The hell I've to do? Aaaaaaaaaa3 -
How do you find motivation to learn new things? I am not saying regarding new technologies or frameworks.
Other stuffs.
I am 26 and I am starting to continue University but I need to learn for TOEFL and SAT. (Long story short, I dropped out because I had to move to USA, and it was choosing USA or University.)
I am working as Software Developer here in USA, but I am preparing to study in University. IT is kinda difficult to find a job here without a degree and I got lucky that I have one.
I start learning for TOEFL, easy stuffs. Just learning how to prepare for it. After 30 minutes or less I zone out. Start thinking about other stuffs that are not related to anything. Daydreaming.....
I am thinking I might have ADHD, but still it is just a though and I do not want to go to doctor and get diagnosed.
Or I am just lazy and kinda depressed that I do not have motivation for anything.
So, I am asking you dear devranters, how do you find motivation for university?1 -
So I decided to ditch Apple MacOS go with Linux so I’m the process of trying to sell my MacBook Pro which seems like it’s going to take a while since I don’t have eBay so if you’re in the USA and are interested let me know. Now the trying to decide which Linux distro, I’m currently leaning towards Arch Linux plus looking for the best laptop workstation that’s supported by Linux seems like its going to be a headache. On a good note my unixstickers arrive in the mail yesterday.7

Real question, not troll. There is debate about it and I really can't figure it out.
Besides having the title software "engineer," is there really such a thing as a software engineer?
In the US, to be an engineer you have to be regularly tested by a regulated governing body, apprentice under another engineer for years, and be certified on a state level. Whereupon you are personally liable for your designs being FREE from errors.
For one thing, nobody can write bug free code, and the idea of being personally responsible for each bug is terrifying.
And two, I've seen news of people calling themselves software engineers in the USA and Canada and getting a cease and desist or sued for it, despite any level of qualification.
I'm sure there are engineers, especially electrical, computer engineers who also program.
But... ?
I don't know, I can't say either way.
That's why I'm asking.9 -

Low-end smartphones sold to Americans with low-income via a government-subsidized program contain unremovable malware, security firm Malware bytes said in a report.
According to the report of ZdNet: The smartphone model is Unimax (UMX) U686CL, a low-end Android-based smartphone made in China and sold by Assurance Wireless. The telco sells cell phones part of a government program that subsidizes phone service for low-income Americans. "In late 2019, we saw several complaints in our support system from users with a government-issued phone reporting that some of its pre-installed apps were malicious," Malwarebytes said in a report. The company said it purchased a UMX U686CL smartphone and analyzed it to confirm the reports it was receiving.7 -
Need an advice on what android phone to buy.
I am looking for decent cpu (snapdragon preferribly), decent storage, screen size around 5.5 inch and not too big. A decent battery life. Fingerprint/faceid sensor is a must. Ram at least 4gb.
I am really interested in samsung s10 however they ship s10 devices with snapdragon only to usa and china as far as I know. So In Europe s10 is being sold with exynos cpu which I heard is laggy.
Then I was wondering wether to get a Pixel 4, however I dont like that the battery is only 2800mAh so Im not sure if that will be enough. I looked at Pixel 3a bet then I'm not sure wether 4gb ram will be enough?
Any ideas? Can you tell me about your devices that you are using?9 -
In the 21st Century the problem is not to allow the use of Chemical & Biological Weapons & 'maybe' just 'maybe' achieve total nuclear disarmament (not in the next 120 years) It's not just the responsibility of the UK, USA, & France but that of every country that's a signatory of the conventions that banned the use of such weapons to intercept and retaliate against members that use such kind of weapons. From Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Brazil, China, India , Afghanistan, Butan, Taiwan, Iceland should use heavy force to stop the use of such weapons.1

So I got offered 85k job in NYC. The interviews went well and they were impressed with all my answers. Now here's the deal.
I have 2 years of good software development experience in.my home country and then moved to USA for further studies. Now graduated this May.
Not sure if 85k(including all perks) is the right amount ? Or negotiate it to make it 90k...6 -
USB sounds to be a backup project just in case USA fails!!!😤😤
.....but at the same time I think that USB is a bee which comes from America🙊🙊1 -
So Comcast is down at my place 6 days now. No tv no reliable internet and no phone. A couple days ago the "technician" came in and could not figure it out. For two days before his arrival Comcast was calling me day and night requesting I reset the modem - they are completely opposed to sending someone out. Anyhow, technician decides that we need an external technician. He calls in and gets us the earliest appointment of next Tuesday. So all in all we will be out of service for 12 days if the technician manages to fix it. And here we are in massive city in the USA in the 21st century without internet service. Google Fiber has announced their prices in my area - adios Comcast!6

Got a job interview on about 2 hours. I am starting to panic because I have done only 2 job interviews in USA.
It is for a big corporation and I will conduct interview with 5 people... in .NET framework which I have not used for 1 year.
And I am terrible at remembering things and I am starting to panic so bad.6 -
Oh Trump you illiterate fuck! In whos interest is this shit?
What will be next? Banning USA factories like Apple from China? Nobody will profit from it but the whole world can se how big dick you have...16 -
Hey remote workers.
What would be your advice for someone with experience that's interested in exploring remote work.
I'd like to target this question to remote workers that live outside USA/EU/UK. Say South America, South Asia.
A little introduction.
I'm a full stack engineer, did one project in embedded systems with QT/C++/RPI can do backend in Python, Node, Java, C#. I have some experience with React Native (just 2 apps)
I currently I do full stack with Node, React, postgres and caching with couchdb.
I gather requirements, write the projects, proposals and then I do the implementation. (Really full stack, I kinda like it though, when I'm bored with code I pick up an issue and contact the client to socialize/get answers. I found out that nondevs like to feel they talk to a human not a robot)
I'm making about 600usd/month (dev in a poor country) working 30hrs /week. I'd like to ramp up my income, working remote part time to fill up about 50hr week.
What can I expect?
Where do I start?
Are there part time opportunities for working remote?
What kind of roles are in demand?9 -
So apparently, this little old-ass Archer breadboard my grandpa owned when new, keeps being related to Tandy in the only fucking results I can find on it. Great little board, until the backing comes off and the paths underneath fall out, at least... https://ebay.com/itm/...

oh ok
my SSI (that I got due to low-income family and being a minor) is still coming in despite supposedly ending after last month's payment
cool
if it's still there by the third week or so i'll just keep the $350 lol
if i keep getting paid i'm not gonna complain lol
(wait, the taxpayers might. SHIT)2 -
Ever tried to tell this guy his ancestors built pyramids, invented vigesimal zero, calculated eclipse frequency, year duration, etc, 2000 or 3000 years before USA and NASA existed?4

Fuck you fucking Amazon Video!
Wanted to watch the second part of the Mr. Robot series finale, but Amazon Germany has only the first available.
Both parts aired yesterday evening on USA Today, so I'm ANGRY!
Luckily, there are other ways, so maybe it was a little "Hacker-Challenge"...
But still, with all episodes they could have flunked it has to be the finale!3 -
Finally got 'em 😵😵😵. They are so good 😊. Now everyone who sees the laptop will ask about devrant 🙃.
Reached me after 15 days they were posted from the USA 😊.
Thanks @dfox and @trogus 😍.3 -
currently applying for remote jobs, in usa mostly.

worst "collab" or "group" proj?
hah! the job i have now
was moved half way across the USA, and as far as the business is concerned, to be with the actual team i'm on.
before moving i was constantly told to do something, well wait now don't, slow down it's not a race (i wasn't racing).
move, and after a couple months of the same i start doing someone's work who got a new position (he was where i moved from). do that guy's job for a year (isolated and nothing to do with the team)
eventually "done" with that guy's job and start getting back into the swing of things. lead/boss makes it sound like he'll have something for me to do every day and then never talks to me until the next day when he has some other exciting new proj i'll never be a part of
couple months go by, surprise! someone forgot a few things from that guy's job i was doing. -.- aufkm?
99% i've done at this job has been for naught. the work i have done is only usable by the few who actually have that program installed. oh and that program got sold to another company and it's been behaving like shit ever since.
should have just paid me the 2+ years salary to quit when i got this job
i mean i guess it's the opposite of a collab? but the purpose was to work on a team so idk, same diff to me
interview for a new position within the company (under contract bc of the move and can't leave w/o paying them) is coming up, also a chance to move back home *fingers crossed* -
Just slogged through the first 9 episodes of Mr. Robot on the shitty USA Now app, just realized I could watch it with Amazon Prime. At least I can watch the last one of this season without commercials or censoring1

Does anyone here use Payoneer here?
Let's say (hypothetically speaking) that a dev gets paid through Payoneer, and does not declare that money in taxes in their residing country (and that's the deliberate choice of using Payoneer in the first place - perhaps taxes are so high and makes the business not worth it).
That country does not exchange information with USA (which is where I would assume Payoneer accounts are). The customer that is paying through Payoneer is US-based.
At which point might the developer be accused of money laundry or similar by Payoneer? Even just for avoiding taxes, if anything
Of course, this is a very hypothetical question, none of this is actually happening.4 -
Hey guys! I'm a founder and CTO of a Buffalo, NY based startup. I graduated last year and I have been working on the startup ever since. I came to the US on a B1 Visa, which allows me to set up the business here but not earn a salary. So I have been working from India (my home country) as a contractor. I travel occasionally to USA for meetings etc. It gets really annoying because of the massive time zone difference, I'm not able to work as efficiently. We are pretty early stage so I can't get an H1b and since I don't have an entity in India, not eligible for l1 visa either.
Can anyone tell me if i have any other options in US/Canada as Canada is just an hour away from Buffalo. I looked at startup visa in Canada but I don't have any investors in Canada hence not eligible for it.2 -
Some of you defended samsung galaxy smartphones, but you’re just lucky to get the right one. In some countries (most of them in fact) including Russia we only have samsungs on exynos cpu, that shit overheats and throttles itself down even when you’re watching YouTube. Lte quality is also garbage, s20 ultra literally loses it on arbitrary grounds while iPhone connection quality is flawless.
If you’re happy with your Samsung, chances are it has a Qualcomm soc, not exynos. Qualcomm ones sold in USA for example.
There is no obvious way to tell what soc is there when you buy Samsung. You’re lucky if it’s in fine print. You have to install AIDA and read from there what soc you’re about to buy.4 -
A great rubber duck, always knew what I was talking about even when I didn't, could have a conversation with earphones in and a few taps on the desk. However, we sadly no longer work together after he moved to the USA! @thatcoolguyrob2

I want out!
I am an Indian student, graduating in 5 months with bad GPA from not so fancy university. I like to call myself highly motivated individual. I am looking for a job in Silicon Valley.
What skill sets should I prep myself for a job in the United States right after I graduate?
I have enough skills to get placed in Mid-Tier companies. I can spend my rest of the days learning and hyper-focusing to get an job in the Silicon Valley.
My priority is USA>Netherlands>Ireland>India.
I can provide more details as required. Help me out!17 -
Has anyone had to start undergraduate/transfer studies a little bit late? Need help with CV/Resume.
So, I dropped out of University because I had to move to USA. And now I am applying for University here in Massachusetts. (transfer my studies to be precise)
I have worked since 2014 as a developer (currently working) and I want to know how to structure my CV/Resume for University.
Do I need a simple one just like when I apply for a job, or a detailed one 2-3 pages?
Thinking of applying at Boston University, Northeastern & UMass. -
Just a legal question here.
Is web scraping legal in USA? I am asking here for the sole reason that I am sure that someone might have developed projects with web scraping.
I've heard that Walmart does it a lot.24 -
Anyone else get told their rates are too high (by potential clients)? Too low (by fellow freelancers)? How does one put a value to their time and still stay market competitive?
Details: USA only. Not on any platforms such as freelancer, upwork, or fiver. Cost of living is Portland Oregon standards. Ask for any other details.
Looking for thoughts, recommended readings, any helpful input would be awesome.2 -

Does anyone know other cheap text messages (SMS) providers such as https://www.smsapi.com?
Quantity approx. 200-1000 messages per day, hard to estimate. Main use is sign up and two-way authentication.
The ones I found so far all start at $0.10 (for Europe) and $0.04 (USA).3 -

Just today a post arrived in the mail which says i need to fill up a kyc form and need an importer exporter code for a shipment that is stuck in customs. Wtf man!. I tracked the package and it is from usa. The only thing that could arrive from usa is devrant swag. And now i need to go through filling so many forms so that i can slap some stickers on my laptop. My life is not easy.3

Hello to everybody. You cannot imagine how blissful it feels to know that those who are reading this are sane. The rest of the world has gone mofo bat shite certified crazy. My question is I acquired a Samsung Desktop (it's a laptop) pc with the cam app 2020.127.20.0.
The cam app is horrible. There's no colour saturation and when I increase the brightness I look like a photocopy from and old machine.
The thing is I don't even find a chat link or phone number for the USA on their site. Does anybody have that info?
Thank you in advance, Jonno2 -
Most of the code I write are adopted from SO answers and dev blogs, am I a terrible coder or not even one?

So I have to do a small college project where I have to mock myself running for president (of a country of choice, in my case USA, also doesn't have to be 100% serious) and to help my campaign I have to make a onepager. Today I've made a mock up for my design and I was wondering what you guys think, so if you have some feedback please do let me know :)

Hi! I'm from Argentina, and on top of that from a relatively small city. Suffice it to say that there are next to none technology/programming/development events around. Do any of you know of a website where I can buy "stickers" ? I've seen some laptops full of grunt, gulp, GitHub, js, Python, etc etc stickers on top, and I wold really love to have some. Shipment is not an issue (as long as it ships within USA :P)
Thanks a lot !!!!2 -
