I am making my first dashboard/summary page without a tutorial! Once I learn D3 via a Udemy course, this will be 93% done!
I just want want to see what you guys think?
Some text is removed as I shared it on FB and the business I am making it for is following me and they have NO idea that I am doing it for them.5 -
I am Graduate student of applied computer science. I am required to select my electives. Now i have to decide between Machine Learning (ML) and Data Visualization. My problem is Machine Learning is very theoretical subject and I have no background in ML in my undergrad. In data visualization, the course is more focused towards D3.js. Due to lack of basic knowledge i am having second thoughts of taking ML. However, this course will be offered in next Fall term. And i am also studying from Coursera to build my background till that time.
I know there is no question here but I need a second opinion from someone experienced. Also, please suggest any other resource that I should look into to build my background in ML.2 -
When you get to work with the Analytics side if the warehouse and one of the guys wants you to learn d3. Js to take a csv to make a html site.
Me: hell Yeah can't wait to make crazy circle graphs and line graphs for everyone in analytics
Analytics: Oh, we just need you to take the csv files and copy the same excel format to a html site. So, table, table, table, table.
Me: so...... No visualization graph
Analytics: No.4 -
Transferring our website from (outdated) SAPUI5 to VueJS.
It's so painful to look at 6 years old code... And at least 10 different coding styles.3 -
After working 48 hours with d3.js library and withing hundred times :
g.append("g")
a question arise:
Is this library developed by woman?
Is there a relation between G-spot and d3.js?2 -
Coz a question like this in SO will get me banned......
I know HTML, CSS, JS, React in frontend.
I know Java as backend including database connectivity and all.
Should i learn a more demanding backend language lile PHP?
Or should I further learn frontend technologies like Angular, D3.js, and other frameworks?15 -

Looking at the "ideally you should" sections doesn't make me feel this is a junior position:
You are passionate about making data useful to the lay-person, there is no data you couldn’t derive visual meaning from. D3.js is your go to and Canvas is your friend.
You build components in your sleep, rock solid and performant using atomic design patterns.
You bend CSS processors to your will or throw them out and code by hand.1 -
I scrolled through the D3.js examples and I feel completely inadequate now as a developer. Some of that stuff is incredible and here I am just hoping to make a couple rotated boxes change color.9
