Gf, shouting: why are you using my premium shampoo and hairdryer on your keycaps?
Me: because just like your haircut, they were unnecessarily expensive, they embody all my self worth, and deserve to be shiny and clean.
Gf, pondering: ... Could you clean my keyboard next?4 -
So this client wanted a very specific layout, with a very specific keycaps set. And an ALT function that would print the "shrug" text emoji.
Say hello to this
64 key, full CNC aluminum case
Gateron Ink Black switches (lubed)
Super thiccc 2.5 mm brass plate,
Keycaps set
MT3 profile Susuwatari set.
Love the profile and how they keycaps hug your finger up while typing.
I think it might be time for me to gather pieces to build my own as a gift in the future23 -
Wonder if they programmed the buttons to be that weird layout, if not (If someone here would get it) we should be able to overwrite it (not by changing the keycaps) 😅😉6

Decided to upgrade my hardware a day after wk119 ends. Oof. I'll post an update once the first part (monitors) arrives, but here's a before pic in the meantime.
Monitors: 3 different brands at 3 different sizes/resolutions. Left to right: 1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1440x900.
Mic: Neewer NW-800 with a U-PHORIA UMC22 interface.
Keyboard: A DIY Nyquist kit from keeb.io with Canvas XDA keycaps.
Rubber duck: I prefer a fuzzy kitten.3 -
For any keyboard lover like me: this little guys are the most valuable things in my setup. Ortholinear keyboards from http://olkb.com I can't recommend them enough. They are fully programmable and comes in kits for you to finish mounting. The red one is a planck and the other is a preonic.
I'm using dsa keycaps from pimpmykeyboard and the switches are gateron blues.
They just opened a new massdrop for the planck, these are already assembled and ready for use. Check it out at https://massdrop.com/buy/...
P.S.: I have nothing to do with the project and I'm not getting paid to post this. Just love them and want to spread the word. Hope someone love them as much as I do.15 -
First commission done! Tofu 60%, Krytox 205g0 lubed creams, SA keycaps, and a special surprise foam dampening plate for extra thocc on that Brass plate.29

I wanted to rant that my stickers look so good that I can't get shit done!
The last of my stickers made it to my Hackintosh.0 setup.
It's pretty quick:
2x240gb RAID 0 SSD
1x240gb Main OS SSD
3.73 ghz Core i7
32gb DDR3 RAM
Nvidia 4gb 660 GT
40" Samsung UHD Smart TV
Unicomp 104 Key Model M Buckling Spring Keyboard (Mac Keycaps)
Razer Deathadder Mouse4 -
I use a DasKey Ultimate with blank keycaps at work and people always ask how the hell I can work with that board. I recently bought a Happy Hacking Pro for my tablet/laptop and I must ask the same question to those who daily drive these..
How the fuck do you deal with this retarded layout??
I used the dip switches to at least change the Del to BS but the physical key is stupid small, the control key position is just idiotic and no dedicated arrows? I use VIM and my work desktop is Linux and I come from a UNIX background. Still makes no sense.

Today I replaced my Logitech G610 that had a twitchy enter key by a Corsair K70 with MX Silent switches.
It's a whole lot of money, but man that thing is really beautiful. I'm in love with the aluminium top plate and the entire design with raised switches/keycaps.
The G610 is a good keyboard (only missing a palm rest), but the K70 is much more comfortable, and the silent switches are really a lot less clicky, nearly as quiet as a rubber dome keyboard. Really nice for office environment.
The only sad thing is, I would prefer brown switches for regular typing, because of the feedback. But MX Silents are only available as red and black.
So now I have red switches, but that's something I can live with.
I hope the K70 is made to last, I'm not planning to have another keyboard for the rest of my life.1 -
Why are there no nice looking electronic buttons??
Like the best looking ones are either custom mechanical keycaps, but MX switches don't come in toggle or two directional variants like for up/down car windows. Or controller buttons are nice like dpads and xyab etc.. buttons.
Otherwise it's just these crappy metal with a ring of led stuff.. wth..7 -
I love artisan keycaps and love checking r/mechmarket to see what pops up, but I don’t understand who’s out here droppin $100+ on a single keycap. I can appreciate the art and craftsmanship, of course, but come on. It’s so hard to rationalize spending so much on such a tiny object. Can anyone help me understand if they feel I’m wrong here?2

Hi All, I used to be a user on devrant while I was in middle/highschool. I kinda forgot about it for a long time but I rediscovered the app when I saw a sticker on a retired laptop.
Quick Intro
CS Student at Drexel, 4th year out of 5
I want a career in software and want to reserve
hardware related things for hobbyist endeavors.
I made a 3x3 macropad with a pi pico including designing and printing the pcb, soldering all the components, and then writing the firmware (micropython blegh). My goal is to daily drive a 75% keyboard of my own making
Currently my main keyboard when I'm using my desktop is a Keychron v1 with Haimou Hearbeat silents and sugarplum keycaps (lmk if you want pics)
I like martial arts, while I practice BJJ, I am interested in Judo and Muay Thai as well.
I like History and Linguistics
The above point got me into power metal, mainly sabaton and then bands similar to it
Ill finish off with some nerdshit
I use a framework with fedora as my daily driver, I am a neovim enjoyer, my steam deck is gathering dust, and I have more Pi's than I know what to do with.3 -
Does anybody have any good analogies for explaining the difference between frontend and backend?
I have been thinking about a possible keyboard analogy since a keyboard is very well understood these days. This only really works for membrane keyboards, but that's fine.
We can all guess where this is going. If you remove the keycaps from a membrane keyboard, you pretty much cannot use it unless you poke into the membrane with something else. So the keycaps are the frontend. They are generally labeled so you know what they do, they are organized into some form of layout which can vary even on a country-by-country basis, they may have pretty colors and they make it easier to interface with the backend. The backend is the rest and the users don't really have to know how it works, its just supposed to work.
For mechanicals, obviously, the removal of the keycaps means it becomes a shitty frontend that is not easy to use, but does have great potential.5 -
Looking for nice mechanical keyboards with underglow/sideglow or backlight, any recommendations? Photo for attention featuring Jian Keyboard. Budget: 175$ including shipping to Poland, can be cheaper because I'd probably change keycaps as soon as it arrives. Max. 65% keyboard because I would carry this to my school huh.

Hey, any suggestion where to get one of those nice custom keyboards? (or at least the coloured keycaps)
PS. I'm from Mexico18 -
Anyone watched "wildcat" keyboard videos???
Why do I want multiple keyboards and multiple guitar???
P.S. that mans korean typing is off charts1 -
Keycaps are like teeth to a laptop, it loses them with time and you can replace them but you don't until it really becomes a hassle without them. And sometimes you can even pimp them up to show how cool you are3
