To all the people giving advice in my previous rant (https://devrant.com/rants/1627035/...), thanks!
I've spent a weekend running high and naked through the forest, and decided to quit my job.
Fuck PHP. Fuck Laravel. Fuck hipster startup companies. Rasmus Lerdorf, Taylor Otwell and my CEO can all go suck each other's cocks in a sloppy mess of saliva, cum and type errors.
I'm so sick of spinach smoothies and weakly typed languages. All active record ORMs are retarded, VueJS is worse than JQuery, Fatal error: Call to a member function iHatePHP() on null. WHY DOES PHP EVEN HAVE METAPROGAMMING METHODS, WHY THE FUCK DOES LARAVEL CHOOSE EASY OVER SAFE.
I'm going to use my heavily abused Macbook to surf out of this mess, on a collapsing wave of unresolved bugs.
On to the next PHP/Laravel job at a hipster startup!26 -
I might lose my Job. Thanks to Central Bank of Nigeria's shenanigans, a promising FinTech startup might be about to go under.
Last month I got married, last month I got a raise. This morning, got told I'm being put on compulsory leave without pay (same as everyone).
Expecting no salary this month. I guess I'll be fine with some Laravel/Flutter freelancing.
Now, how to break the news to my wife. She knows I love my job, she's gonna be even more heartbroken/worried than I am. We were supposed to move to a bigger apartment next month when yearly rent here is due.
I guess we'll be alright. It is what it is.8 -
I'm so fed up of this shitty ultra-ortodox industry
I've worked on many different projects, been in many different teams. It's an ever changing industry, but, surprisingly, it's so orthodox. Dev industry nowadays have some rules, that everybody adopts them as "best practices". You have to work on pull requests, and several of your teammates have to review your shit (as if they have nothing better to do).
I'm sick of people using fucking DTOs in shitty frameworks like Laravel. Using DTOs in Laravel is like putting mustard in a fucking chocolate cake.
I'm so fed up of SPAs and node.js. I've yet so see a single SPA that handles jwt tokens correctly. I'm tired of spending hours and hours, days and days, struggling with thousandls of layers of abstractions instead of being productive and getting the shit done.
Because end customers don't give a shit about your "best practices": They have a problem and you are getting paid for it to be solved, not for spending hours and hours struggling with stupid Javascript and its crazy async nature and their crappy libraries.
Damnit. I say. Now. I now feel better. Thanks for listening :)14 -
Hey guys, quick question regarding employers and stuff.
I'm 14 and I've been learning and making things in PHP for around 1 and a half years now. I quite like PHP as, despite the code being quite messy sometimes, it's super easy to learn, and has plenty of features for any use case. My biggest concern is that, when I end up getting a job, whilst 5 and a half years of experience using the language is good, do you guys think PHP will still be in-demand, or should I look towards learning a new stack? Perhaps I should use Ruby on Rails, or Express - React and Redux, or maybe Django? With so many options available for developers, I'm finding it difficult to choose a stack that will stay in-demand in the future. Could anyone help me out with this? Thanks.
Edit: I've been learning Laravel, too.15 -
Web developers, please recommend a tech stack. I have work experience in Laravel, Angular and Node Express. Personal small experience only for Vue and React.
Frontend: Angular, React or Vue?
Backend: Node Adonis JS or PHP Laravel?
CSS framework: Angular Material(angular), Material-UI, Tailwind CSS or Bootstrap?
This is for a personal project API based. What frontend backend tech stack are you using right now? Thanks!23 -
Quick Question
Suppose I wanted to apply A.I. or deeplearning to a very simple marketing activity I have in mind...
What's my learning curve looking like? I'm a backend programmer with roughly 3-4 years
experience in laravel/php right now. I've used
almost every inch of that framework.
Just curious. And any path anyone would suggest? thanks3 -
I just released a new Laravel package. The concept behind it is to use PHP for everything, so you no longer have to write HTML, CSS, or JavaScript. No more constant file and context switching. It also allows you to create and use components in the same way you would with JavaScript libraries like React or Vue.
It's called Malzahar. A magic PHP framework. Build reactive web apps without writing HTML, CSS, or JavaScript! Powered by Tailwind, Alpine, Laravel, & Livewire.

#DailyRant
I don't like Laravel Livewire and the architectural aspect of it. Every key stroke is a call to the server. The freedom of designing the minute behaviours are taken away. (e.g. border-bottom on a certain div). The maintain ability is not good either. Change one variable name and the whole thing breaks and it's difficult to pinpoint where it broke exactly. And the most of all, it's not beginner friendly.
My chest feels lighter now. Thanks. -
Anyone know a good open source web page builder? If there's a laravel integration would be better.
Got a client needs this very soon!
Sort of just assumed someone did it, but yeah, like there's lots, I see wink, grapejs, etc. But there's gotta be one perfect for my needs.
Thanks!8 -
Should I learn Angular 2 or Vue 2?
Not asking which one is better, but which one suits my need better:
I want to move from PHP to nodejs frameworks; I know Vue cause it's famous in the Laravel community, but don't know about the node/js community. I heard Angular 2 is hard, but I'm changing my dev stack so might as invest some time in it. So which one should I pick?
Also, what's a good nodejs framework for starters (who aim to build production-ready apps) (also, not planning on doing mobile apps so no need for cross platform js frameworks).
Thanks in advance12 -
I am learning NestJS + MongoDB stack after spending 5+ years as a Laravel + MySQL dev.
Wish me luck or give me advice. Thanks in advance!10 -
I'm currently struggling to pick between Vue and React for my next project. It will be a kind-of campus social network and will use Laravel.
I already know React but I'm wondering how well it goes with Laravel and wether I should use my time on Vue instead?
Apologies for being so vague but hopefully someone will understand. Thanks!9 -
Hey guys! In Laravel, what is the difference between the methods "url()" and "route()"?? I use "url()" for css and JS routes and "route()" for my own routes. Is it good what i'm doing? Or it's a bad practice? Thanks!3

Im so grateful to all those way more talented devs then myself who helped to build laravel and vue. If anyone here is one, have my sincerest gratitude!

Help me decide to choose between nestjs and Adonis js framework for node? I know laravel and angular so it makes hard for me to choose between the two.
Nestjs is angular inspired while Adonis js is laravel inspired. I only have experience with express framework. Thanks!2 -
I recently released my latest UI, Auth, & CRUD scaffolding package called Laravel Livewire UI.
This package provides Laravel Livewire & Bootstrap UI, Auth, & CRUD scaffolding commands to make your development speeds blazing fast. With it, you can generate full, preconfigured Bootstrap UI, complete Auth scaffolding including password resets and profile updating, and Create, Read, Update, and Delete operations. The CRUD files even have searching, sorting, and filtering. This package also comes with full PWA capabilities.

Thanks for your time. -
I just launched my new UI package.
bastinald/ui allows you to create web apps using Laravel Livewire + Bootstrap 5 in record time.
