~During app demo to our client~
- And when you click here the request will be submitted, the admin will be notified.
*App crashes*
- And of course the app will close itself since it's the end of the process.

Android app update available! I wonder what they've changed? 🤔
Changelog: "We improved the app and made it better."
Well thanks. 🖕18 -
Few months ago I made an app for my buddy. Because it was simple soundboard app (it literally took me 15 minutes) I haven’t took any money. He said it’s for personal use only...
So he released it under his name on Google Play Store... And now he asks me to add advertisements... For free... When I asked him what can I get from it, he said “you can add your name to Credits”
That’s how you loose trust and buddies!24 -
Who else thinks having their devrant avatar in this loading screen (in the app) will give it a more personal touch? ;)25
-
At first I was like "daaaamn, is @dfox stalking me?" Then I realised it's a bug on the iOS app :P17
-
Techy name? Check.
Word which ends with "er" but scrap the E? Check.
A .io domain? Check.
This is a hipster app.8 -
- Free app:
"5 stars - OMG this app is awesome!!!"
- Add new feature with In-app purchase:
"1 star - App sucks balls. Why we must pay? Make free and I rate 5 stars"
I call them The Rating Terrorists.8 -
Aint a rant though
But I woke up today and the first thing I saw was my first Android app reaching 5 digits (10017) downloads figure with 4.73 stars. :D
Couldnt be happier.11 -
I got board and decided to make a weather app.
I have designed everything except the font which is Open Sans.
The app will be created on Electron and will be my first entry into that world.
It is currently in the design phase but thought it might be nice to share it's development with you guys.
I hope you like it and as always feedback is more than welcome.71 -
"Can you help me make an app? I've got this perfect idea, but I can't tell you what it is until you've said yes."
SIGH. I wish these people knew that perfect ideas are worthless, there are plenty of them. Perfect executions of good ideas are what has value.6 -
*Working on app for client*
After review - “Can you make that font bigger?”
*Makes font larger*
After review a week later - “Can you make that font smaller?”
*Puts font back to original size*
Another review later on - “Can you make that font bigger?”
*Keeps font at same size and changes nothing*
Next review - “That new font size is perfect!”2 -
I just hate it when an update for an app is available and there's no changelog. Seriously, tell us what this update is about!5

GUESS WHO RELEASED FIRST ANDROID APP !!!!! 👯👯👯👯👯👯 https://play.google.com/store/apps/...
Honestly, it's kinda strange that only now I published something, even tho I already work as Android dev 🤔 Any similar experience or is it just me?
It's quite small app, nothing really special, tho REALLY USEFUL!!! (At least for me 😉)
Alright, this is a point where I ask favors:
1. Do those index circles look strange? Should I remove/keep/change them??🤔
2. Since my first year of collage starts on 25th, could someone post lessons that are introduced in collage? (For small feature 😉)
3. If someone actually likes it and wants some feature or translation - PLEASE DO TELL ME!!! I'll implement them as soon as possible (only for my beloved devranters, aka all of them 😘💋♥️)50 -
Telling people I don't need GIT and prefer to do things via FTP for years. That is till today when I accidentally deleted everything.
sudo apt-get install git16 -
I've always drunk very less water compared to others. So I decided to install this app that'll remind me to drink water every now and then. Since, healthy body, healthy mind.
Was going through comments when I found this.
Well, I mean he's right in a sense, you know.13 -
App ratings in a nutshell:
This is by far the best app of the entire store! But it doesn't have X feature so I rated it with 1 star. You will get 5 if X is added!
Everytime I start the app it crashes. I never fucking used the app itself, but just because I'm using an outdated system you only get 1 star. Please fix
I found a bug in the app and I do not tell you where the fuck it is located. Only 1 star for you
Awesome app but please remove ads. This is completely free but I don't want the dev who spent 10 hours a day developing this app to make any form of profit10 -
Dear phone app devs,
when I start app, I want to *use* it, NOT fill in recommendations on store. Please move this question AFTER useful work in app.
Sincerely,
Angry user6 -
!rant
I just published my very first Android app to the Google Play store and I'm super pumped about it!17 -
Best App Review ever:
"Awesome app but please remove the ads, then i will give you 5 Stars"
So basicly you are saying the developers should not make any money of the app they spend multiple hours making? Well lets remove the ads then i guess 😤😤12 -
You developed a completly free and open source app that was designed to do A, and it does exactly what it should.
Review from an user (2 stars out of 5):
"I tried it and it just does A, I would prefer it did B.
Thank you, but I will look for a better option. Keep working, you have a lot of potential."
fml17 -
Last night I was feeling bored so I got an idea and made this app. well in morning even I published this on play store.
It’s a completely useless application where you not supposed to touch anything.
but still you want to give it a try and want to give more useless ideas then here is the link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...
just remember don't touch anything31 -
Why everyone has an idea for an app like UBER? I have received a lot of these requirements this year, and then...6

-- How I succeeded turning a PHP/MYSQL app into Android app within a week --
Alright. So I wanted to grab your attention to what I'm about to write. If you are here just to read about the technologies I used, jump to bottom.
This is also a kind of rant; rant against the other fellow devs who demotivated me originally when I asked a question.
I'll not go in the details of my original question. Here's the link for those who are interested:
https://www.devrant.io/rants/366496
It's been days since I achieved what I wanted to but I thought someone might learn from my experience. So here it goes.
Why FREE?
Well, it was an important client. I worked on his website and he asked for an app for the same website and told me he won't be able to pay me anything for the app. I was, somewhat, under the impression that he might be testing me. If not, then I would end up learning something new. It wasn't a bad deal for me so I didn't hesitate to took it.
Within a week, I was able to pull the job and finish it. I felt so much better (and proud of myself) when I finished the app within the week and client approved it. What did I get? I got a GOOD BANK CLIENT in my pocket now. Got a lot more worth of projects from the same client. If I were being paid for the app, I might not have pulled the job so much better.
So the moral of this story is never to give up. NOT EVERY DEVELOPER SELLS SHORT ONLY FOR "MONEY". Some enjoy learning new things. And some like me love to accept new challenges and are not afraid to try something new everyday.
In case, someone is interested in knowing the technologies I used, here they go;
PhoneGap
Framework7
Template7
Apache Cordova
I wrote an API for the interaction between the web services and the app.
Also, Ionic Framework seems promising but it had a learning curve and time was of the essence. But I'm gonna learn it anyhow.15 -
Built my first little app and put it on my phone 👶 it's not much and comes mainly from a udemy course, but hey it's a step.9

Whenever you get frustrated finding why users are rating your app low,
Always remember that pacific ocean has a rating of 3.5 stars on google maps.6 -
When you don't have new feature to add to the app but need to keep updates.
"General bug fixes and performance improvements."3 -
You know guys, I haven't posted much today, so here's a screenshot of the login of an app I'm making (secret spooky stuff). I'm pretty proud of how it turned out after about 3 hours of back and forth.
What do you think?44 -
I write "api" in the mail and the management girl thinks i made a typo and corrects it to "app" on the report.
This is not even the first time she has done this! 🤦🏻♂6 -
I have a question for dfox and trogus.
I have noticed that the devrant API takes an app id. And everyone that I have seen is using the Id #3 in their projects.
What was the purpose of that?
And is there a way that you guys could add like a "devrant developers" page where we could register our own personal app ids and see analytics?31 -
This days whenever I have a groundbreaking idea, my firs step is...
Google that exact title, because every possible app ideas are already done ✅1 -
Designing an app sure takes some time, but at the end it feels amazing when everything is in place.
Finished this bad boy today10 -
Who else agrees that the play store should have a section which tells if an app needs a mandatory login to use it ? Like why the hell does a simple offline planner todo app need you to sign-up if you don't wanna use cloud backup. Jeez the user just trusted you by spending valuable time and bandwidth downloading your app. You owe it to him to show him some features of the app before shoving a sign up in his face. As an app developer myself I really think that this kind of behaviour turns off more users than anything else.2
-
Why are modern apps so god damn huge? A fucking messaging app doesn't require 500000000000000 MB!!! I wonder what shit load of fuck they're packing in those apps.13
-
When you have a killer app idea for years and you a lazy @sshole for working on it, but always dreaming with it.
"If I make the app I will be a millionaire"1 -
App idea!
A normal social media app. But everytime a user taps on opposite gender's profile pic, it secretly records his face during that activity and then tweets that recording.

I'm sorry, but the Apple App Store review team sometimes doesn't have the slightest clue what they're doing. Some things they usually reject me for, I can literally name 100 apps that violate that same thing, that are ON the App Store.
But the one that always gets me the most, is they will reject your app for not having extremely strict blocking/reporting features in your app (if it involves user-generated content). Okay, I get this, so I implement it. But they reject my app without even looking for them.
It's a CHAT app, so I put the block button INSIDE the chat conversation (right? normal UX? am I crazy?), and they reject it because they couldn't find the block button on the first screen (a screen that didn't even have chats, they screenshotted the SIGN UP screen LOL).
What a joke. Normally I wouldn't care but this update that I'm trying to get approved is essential and fixes some important crashes that have been happening to 13% of active users.3 -
You wake up in the middle of the night with an awesome idea for a new app.
You spend weeks thinking about it, open a private repo, start to design the UI and logo, and in all your excitement explain your idea to the family and best friends, but no one really finds it cool.
Slowly you start to lose the excitement, day after day you consider it more and more stupid, until you start to hate both the idea and yourself because you really liked it.
6 months later, when you totally forgot about it, you find an app on the App Store very similar to it (but with less features)... as App of the Day, sold for €6.99, 4.8 rating, thousands of positive comments and loved by everyone.
The moral of this story?
If you really like your idea, just make it happen without looking at anyone.6 -
That frustrating moment when you have an excellent app idea but a similar app already exists with over 50,000 downloads 😭😭😭4
-
STARTUP IDEA GUYS SUCKS!!!!
So today one of my friend asked me to do an app for him and finally share 50 percent of the profit that I get. His idea is to build an app that can measure air pollution level, water pollution level, soil fertility range. I was like "what the hell!"... The beauty is that he wants me to pay him 50 percent for giving such (stupid, retarded) idea.
Wondering when these "startup idea guys" will realize that ideas are cheap but execution is worth the millions! Fed-up with such stupid people.13 -
DATA COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SERVER AND AN APP..
1. Write all data into files,
2. Make the files as zip,
3. Send the zip to server,
4. Server will unzip the zip file,
5. Read all the data line by line from the files and update the data.
** TRUST ME, THIS IS A PRODUCTION APP I HAVE SEEN FROM A CLIENT **7 -
When your app run smoothly, but your boss dislike it because "loading media content is too slow".
Then you explain him that those content are downloaded, so having a slow connection means that content will load slowly.
"So? Make internet faster, you're the dev"3 -
After about 2 years and one restart of the project, I am finally finished with my first iOS game, and put it on the app store! Super proud!11

Me: "I've just released a new app"
Everyone I know: "I've got a great idea for an app.... I'll give you 10%"
Every. Single. Time. -
One of the worst thing :
Start a new project...
Have almost done everything...
See that someone else has done the same kind of app but... His is much better...3 -
My first app is finally on :)
Extremely happy.
Shameless self advertising:

If you had a dollar for every time someone has told me "I have an app idea" , you would have enough money to hire me to build your app.3
-
At first I thought this app was a monster. Something to be afraid of. Turns out it’s more like an autistic puppy that’s been beaten by a dozen owners. It’s scared, snappy and confused.4

My job in a nutshell:
*fixes app, so it's working 99% bug free*
*Chrome update*

The TSA might have paid $1.4 million for the app demonstrated here: https://youtube.com/watch/... (they claim they "only" paid $47,000). Either way, seriously?????3
-
I swear preparing an app update that's going to be deployed to 500+ people stresses me tf out.
I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way.10 -
They say: If you build this app, I'll give you 10% equity.
I hear: If you work for 6 weeks straight, I'll give you somewhere in between 0 and 5 million dollars.1 -
Dad just came to me: "I have a great idea for an app you could build"
I thought "Wow.. That's cliché"5 -
Client: if you build me this one site super cheap I will give you another project because then I trust you
Me: interesting ...6 -
Am I the only one that down votes reviews for an app just because the review is from someone who's incompetent?
For example: major new release, so of course there's going to be bugs. Person 1 stars and bitches about how great the old version was.
Like ok you incompetent fuck, that's not at all how this shit works.3 -
I thought to myself, "i nee some company in my life"
1.Registers on a app to meet some people
2. Fills in profile
3. Falls asleep from bordom.

Notification from app: "we see you are in the engineering field, want to have a look at the opportunities we have at our company?"

This app is awesome! Finally a place where I can vent my coding frustrations and people will actually have an idea of what I'm talking about!7

!(!(!(!rant)))
When you're using a sophisticated software and you've shown your work to your non-dev friends and they say "Wow! What APP did u use?"
Furk it! App sounds like a small icon on your mobile phone to take a selfie putting a dog filter to post for everyone to see! You call this tool just an "APP"? May Zeus forgive this blasphemy.

"Finished" my first PWA today. I bet most of you think PWAs are stupid for valid reasons but I wanted to try something new. And I'm quite pleased with the result even though it's only a simple todo app. Wrote everything from scratch, no dependencies/frameworks/libraries! 😊

I think I did the stupidest mistake I could possibly do as a developer. Do I still have a chance?
For this question you'll need a bit of background info:
I'm a 17-year old student, developing mostly apps in my freetime. I code since 2011 so I hope to be able to say that I'm at least a bit experienced. I have once shown an app public earlier this year with mediocre interest. I spent the second half of 2017 developing another app as part of an extracurricular activity of my school. On 8th december I presented this new app public under the schools name. As I recall the interest was pretty high, especially when compared to the app in the first half of the year. As the event went on several people that watched my presentation approached me and asked where they could get the app. I said that it was still in development and that they could expect it to come out in early 2018 and I gave them my Twitter. I was super excited and that's where I think I did the worst mistake I could do.
A representative of a company approached me. They were interested in the App because it addresses a topic which is part of what they do. They asked how much I currently make with this app. I responded with "nothing" as it wasn't out yet. They wanted to know how to contact me and I didn't have a sheet of paper and a pen with me (mistake 1). I don't know why I did this, but told them to contact me through reaching out to my school (mistake 2) and said they would find a mail address on my schools homepage (mistake 3) without telling them what my schools name was (mistake 4). They still said that they were about to reach out and look forward to work together with me. They sounded really confident. We didn't have much time to talk but it still would have been enough to get a pan and some paper... 🤦
But I feel pretty stupid now.
I suppose they remembered at least my schools name as my project did stand out (I hope this doesn't sound too arrogant. An app was way over the top for an event like this) and my schools name was all over the place. But I still don't know if they'll ever contact me. At least I learnt from it. I now take a pen and paper with me all the time and I learnt to pitch my current app whenever I'm questioned about it.
I'd like to hear your opinion on that as I never was in a situation like that. Do I still have a chance that they'll contact me? Is it likely?
Thank you in advance. Have mercy if this text isn't error-free as english isn't my native language and I'm sleepy right now. I just wanted to drop this burden for once. 😅8 -
Some thoughts about time relations in app dev:
10% - minimal ui & coding main functions
10% - testing
10% - writing web api just for fun
70% - try to "design" an ui
Am I the only one having problems with ui?? 🤔3 -
So I just found out that another company is launching the same app/website idea as mine...*sigh*
This is not how I was planning on starting my week.
I suppose I need wait and see what they have and improve my app to be better.
Hello devRant, it's good to be back. I hope everyone has a good week.6 -
I have been working on a hybrid app since 7 months
Today my manager told me, I didn't do anything except adding random plugins here and there :|
And my colleagues i.e. native app developers were laughing :|
What the fuckin fuck man ://3 -
Pro tip. How to cut down on those pesky support emails? Break the only email link in your app I can find.
Genius.4 -
For years I've been thinking to myself I should make an app. Well, I finally stopped procrastinating and just did it.
Hopefully it will come in useful for all fellow devs when you come to choosing a project name for your next project.

My friend had an awesome idea for an app, but, he doesn't seem interested in doing anything 😑 I should I make the app or do nothing?10

Dear my school app developer,
.
I'd like to say FUCK YOU! update your app before asking money from me.1 -
Trying out the Windows 10 version of devRant. I had to get the Windows Store back on my system as I got rid of the Windows App the came with upgade but, once I figured how to add it back, I got devRant and it looks great!1

Just developed my first interactive iPhone app using Swift!
It's only basic, changing the screen when tapped from black to white like a flashlight, but feels great to have done it after learning the language over the past few weeks. 😊2 -
Microsoft pls fix.
My company chose to use Microsoft Teams and uses various linux desktops.
Let's try Microsoft Teams.
A desktop app? Hell yeah. Let's try it.
Oh wait...
Microsoft delivers a Windows executable for linux users... Fuck7 -
How is it a thing that developing a desktop app nowadays requires an enormous amount of RAM? I stared working on an electron project and the whole thing takes up 3-4 GB of RAM when running, and that does not factor in my IDE or anything else.
But the packaged app does not go over 400mb, although we have had memory leaks in the past10 -
After developing Android apps for 4 years, I just released my first app for iOS 🎉

I don't know about you, but I have Stack Exchange's app installed in my phone just in case. I never use it, but it's there for an emergency (I don't know what kind of emergency, to be honest, but you never know...)1

Why does everyone screenshot a Tweet, instead of using a perfectly good app 'Tweet2Pic' being available on Play Store.
P.S: I am the dev, shamelessly promoting my app. I am not sure if I can share links here 😅3 -
When you have a great idea for an app, then find out that someone already done it and with the same name.
My idea is way better than the existing one though... I just need to think of another name.1 -
The agenda app I downloaded has a bug now.. can't select the day of the month from the calendar... Have to go swiping from page to page until I get where I want :/2

Thanks to @bittersweet I found and tried _Notes by Firefox_. An awesome app, wich I definitely will keep and use.
I love the markdown support.
I love the synchronisation.
I hope they will add access-controls, so I can give other users access to my notes.
Sry, for the advertisement.6 -
My best dev experience this year was the success of my company intern app at work, where I am employeed since last December beside my studies.
The company founder, the CEO, the head of department and the marketing department all like my app and in January it will be deployed to all company phones 😀
Whish me luck that there won't be any serious bugs 😅 -
Colleagues at my part-time job:
"You study programming right? Amazing we've got this great app idea, we'd love to see a finished product in 2 months"

When I was challenged by my teacher to develop an application for a Solid Mechanics class at university. I developed a dedicated calculator which returned all the results of a given problem, one of which had a graph! I made it with MIT App Inventor and later on took it to Android Studio with a friend of mine.
Best feeling I had at that time! -
Can anyone recommend an Android app for blocking notifications from a specific app during, for example, non working hours? Context: we use Telegram as a communication channel, but it's often used outside of work hours too by some colleagues. I wanna be updated during work hours, but want my peace after and before. I'm using Android 6, and haven't found a way to do this natively yet.5
-
I'm not here to underestimate the design of a government app on Android.
I hope the developer considered the UI itself as user-friendly and not the default button from android studio. he just simply copies the contents(text & images) from the government web page and paste it to its application.
He/she got paid well to make that app. well, although the information is correct for the users.
It's not much that users are even enthusiastic of the design. they simply read the guidelines inside the app and no more fancy animation.1 -
My app is finally on the Apple App Store.
The rant: how bloody difficult was it to get on there?! They scrutinise EVERYTHING. My promo copy, my screengrabs and also it seems that there is code that works on iPhone that doesn’t work on iPad.
I thought it was designed to be the same for ease of development? However I found a function that works perfectly well on iPhone but breaks iPad.
Anyway I guess in the long run this keeps the App Store’s quality level high and it isn’t the Wild West like the google play store. However it’s still pretty annoying. I can see why devs get angry about Apple’s process.3 -
A simple TodoList App, which is 1.6MB big is being featured on the App Store. Which I could have been this lucky.2

I want to spend about 10 minutes a day in to small code brain teasors.
I know there are apps like SoloLearn. I don't want to learn hard new concepts but rather just maintain the basic ones. I am looking for an app that gives me quizes, not just informational text
What would u recommend?8 -
When I was in my highschool I started learning android. My first need was a timetable app, so I made a very simple timetable app. I shared it with my friends and when I noticed people are liking it.... I rebuilt it from scratch and published it on playstore. Now I'm in college and when I see people using it, I feel really proud.
here's the link to mah app:

Being an Android Dev myself, I bought my first app in Play Store!
Nova Launcher Prime was offered @ ₹10 (~0.15$). No matter how small the contribution is, it's quite a special joy to support another dev!8 -

Me: Ok lets make a simple chrome app wrapper for devRant just for the hell of it... Oh i really don't like how there is a split line between the title bar and window content...

Me: Fuck it! Let's build a title bar library and allow for devRant theming options...
Why must I do this to myself... -
How to emphasize that the user can swipe something?
Ich want the user of my App to swipe left or right on top of a number to increase it.
Maybe also some other suggestions for a fast number selection?3 -
Is it just my phone or does the devRant app like to crash when you spend more than a few minutes in another app? Also I don't get notifications anymore
If anyone has any reasoning behind why these happen (since sometime in August I believe), I'd really appreciate it.1 -
Anyone who uses Visual Studio Team Services: I have created an app for managing projects, builds and work items. Hopefully it will help at least a few of you.
https://vsts.co.uk/8 -
I just found this very helpful app. Thought you guys might want to try it. It allows you to copy any text, anywhere :)

Grab app notifications system sucks to the max. Actually the whole Grab app sucks when it compared to Uber.
But fucking Uber is expensive and high and all mighty. They are like hey our app is the best, so use if you want or fuck off.
Grab. They are not expensive and they do shit tons of promotions and gives much more coupons. But all the news are sent to that buggy NOTIFICATIONS page and that fucking page is buggy as shit.
I wonder that they are doing it intentionally. Hey give lots of promotions. Just make it hard as fuck for people to access and use it. -
In places devRant Android App needs to clear activity stack... We see extra screens when we hit back, for example, when we modifiy a rant or a comment, we see the older one as well which is redundant.2
-
Dear app, if you say that your update is for bug fixes, you better fix all those bugs instead of releasing and releasing an update with the same bugs still there. Better look into the UI/UX issues too. Your app looks horrible! Last time I was involved in it, everything is looking so fine I haven't had a bad review for a long time. Hope you can read this. #ktnxbye1

Me: I need some time to understand this app(taking over it from another developer without explanation)
Boss: I need to bill the client, please finish all the pending features.
Me: :/1 -
So I just got asked for a quote for developing an app for a client's friend. He wanted an app that requires me to build let's just say a combination of what you see on uber with the live tracking of your uber driver, seeing all cars around your location and determining the closest one (It wasn't necessarily cars) plus profiles and another app for another set of users (I can easily make this one and determine the logged in user and in turn tailor the features for that user but they wanted two). An admin portal also was included and I had to do various integrations with Google maps. In app purchases was also necessary. Logs as the app has to keep track of all activities basically. A wallet feature was also to be implemented, scheduling, rating and complains section was also something requested and finally a mini accounting system was also to be developed. I was going to do this singlehandly as a freelancer. Obviously this is a lot of work. I also gave them a timeline of about 3 months for development. Which meant I was going to be putting all my time into developing this. Front end and backend for the app and front-end and backend for the server and database architecture. I charged them $10,000 not only for the work but also because they were going to be making money off of the app. They go "wow and why does it cost so much"...Judging from their reactions I don't think they will move further with this with me because of costs...😂 I can't even begin to wonder why they think that isn't a fair price. I have learnt from previous work before that you always state a cost for which you are absolutely sure you would want to work for else you would start doing the work and once you see how little you are being paid for so much work you end up hating the work and completing it ends up being a difficult task.10

After waiting a very long two days, my app was finally accepted🙏

When you use an Android app on daily basis, upgrades every time when you can, then you remove and reinstall it and get a very different UI and feature set. What kind of black magic is this?
-
Longest goddamn development time ever on this one app I’m working on. Totally got demotivated for many months. Only now just starting to finish it.
-
Why does this happen....
I go , hey I just finished this project (app for example since they the worst culprit)
Why ... Are the next words out of the other persons mouth is, oh I had an idea for an app ....
Why do they then proceed to tell you an app that exists , or an app that's ridiculous like
You know calenders ... Yeah I do... What about a calendar that syncs to your friends one when you want to do an event .... You mean Facebook events... Yeah but for calenders 🤔😥😒
Why does the general population think one.... It's easy to build and costs nothing and two that without research they have the best idea on earth. -
Created this stupid app in like 30 minutes, not good at CSS at all... Can anyone suggest what to add next :/

Need some advice, which charging model is most beneficial nowadays? (for a mobile game):
1. Pay for full app
2. Free download and in-app purchase(s)
3. Free download and ads (pay to remove?)

If I made an app where you keep password hints so you can remember the password yourself, is it fair to say the encryption is your memory?1

So for my school's annual interschool symposium, I hacked together an app to scan QR codes and keep track of who's taken their refreshments (It was pizza.) If it's been scanned once, it'll show an error. Easy enough, right? Wrong.
So the team at the counter took a screenshot when my app showed "Approved" and whenever they wanted a pizza, they showed the guys their screenshot. Result? Over 70 pizzas weren't counted. And I bore the wrath of my teacher *sigh*.
What the hell could I have done?2 -
Did any of you made a progressive web app before? If yes; what were your experiences with it? Pro's and cons?4

Had to create an App in unstable Phonegap (2012) for all 4 platforms,
for our biggest Dubai based client for a Tech Event, within A WEEK :/
Forget Phonegap, I didn't even know JavaScript back then :|
That was the shittiest App I have ever created, still somehow got an appreciation mail :|2 -
Few days back, I developed an app for a client where users can buy textile designs online.
The designs to be uploaded on the server must be square to display correctly on the app. so I had to make them square manually (by either pattern repetition or by filling extra space).
I was like "fuck me!", 800 design image to make it square and each takes like 1 and half minute. I did uploaded 30 to 40 images and then...
I got really frustrated and I was lazy to make more designs square anymore.. So I developed an algorithm that would identify the type of design and then it automatically makes it square by self decision.
so that was my little anti-laziness for my big laziness. -
Idea - News app that connects to a blood pressure monitor and adjusts your feed accordingly. It'd be so awesome.2

My boss is away for the day.
Spent the day developing stuff.
He calls me and asks me about an app we're making, and I just reply, like yesterday, "you still have to send me the images to finalize it"
Boss: "oh, ok, sending them now."
I'm still waiting for them, I asked them 2 days ago for the first time.3 -
Just installed this app. Replying to everyone using this. My life has never been this sorted ever

Has anyone tried Shapr app to meet new ppl / expand professional network / heck, make new friends?
I'm thinking of giving it a go once I'm in a bigger city (Toronto) -
Ive been looking for a contact manager for Android with a certain feature, but can't find anything for it.
Ive got quite lot contacts on my phone and some of them are from people online (devRant and other communities) as well as family, friends, old classmates etc.
Sometimes I forget who is who and thus Ive to add people as: "Jane (devRant)", "Jane Doe (Niece)", "Jane (Classmate school A)", "Jane (Classmate school B)"
Now I am looking for an app that allows for adding tags to a contact (preferably multiple) to avoid polluting names with something behind the name.
I dont need any cloud saves for it, although I would like it to be able to export/import it to csv, xml or json.
Does anybody know an app that fits my needs?5 -
About to come up with an idea for an app and code it in a few hours before the deadline to a competition I forgot about let's go lol

Frameworks for Mobile Hybrid Apps.
So we are considering to migrate our native Android app to a Hybrid because the app almost entirely consists of webviews.
what do you think will be the best choice to try.
in terms of performance, documentation, community, ease of writing and maintaining code15 -
I just submitted my app to the Mac app store, Christ what a ballache this code signing stuff is 😣 taken me the best part of the afternoon to figure it out2

It's not a big deal but I feel proud, a teen in my neighborhood was asking me to teach him some Android dev, I was like why not.
He published his first app (free and paid versions)
It's a simple app about broadcasting audio (from MIC or calls) to a radio server like shoutcast.
I have to put it here for support the guy :)

Can anybody explain my why the fuck EVERYTHING has to be made into an computer-app, even tho it already has a perfectly capable web-interface? Looking at you WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack etc...

Any native app devs know if this is possible, before I go away and start messing about with shit.
I want to build a companion native app to my web app for the sole purpose of receiving in app push notifications.
So you set all the shit up on the web app and then the native app is just to get push messages. I currently send sms messages with the Twilio API but would rather the app solution.1 -
Does anyone know a good todo app? I' searching someting _simple_, so no kanban board whatsoever.
I only want a way to do simple lists.
I'm looking for a mobile app, if it has cloud synchronization or even a desktop app, that's an absolute bonus. Also, while we're on that topic, self hosted would be reeeeaaaally cool (but again no must)6 -
Anyone who's ever launched an app, how did you do it? Did you just release it on the app store and that was that, or did you go though and trial it with people and try to get investors and all that jazz? People who have done either how did it go? 😀3

Hello everyone. I need your help and suggestions. I submitted an app to the Apple app store and got this response.

Your app or metadata includes an account registration feature, which is considered an access to external mechanisms for purchases or subscriptions to be used in the app.
To resolve this issue, please remove the account registration feature and any other fully qualified links to your site that could indirectly provide access to these mechanisms, such as links to web pages for support, FAQs, product or program details, etc.

My app only has a signup form that signs the user up on Firebase. What are my options? Is a simple signup form not allowed in iOS apps? This just does not make any sense to me. Please let me know what you would do.5 -
A cliente needs a app for the smartphone to share 199 images with people who bougth his book. I tell him this type of app dont exists, and tell him the best way is to create a web page for this. He insists that there are these applications.
Can someone help me ?7 -
I worked on a smart locker software with another developer a year back. Really cool stuff where you mix Node.js with real hardware. That another developer built the thing on Angular, despite not having a clue how to use it. We got fired, but those smart lockers are deployed to a lot of places now and whenever I see one I stop and feel proud because the API that powers it was written by me. Despite not getting a cent due to that other developer.

Don't even know how to start. I currently work as technician (fix broken shit devices like apple and manage our servers).
Before the rant, here's a note: I'm a newbie-ish something.. Like I do some Java and Android stuff but nothing amazing (yet).
Here's my rant:
Boss: Hey, you mentioned in your CV that you do some programming.
Me: Yep, but just starting. Already made few apps but nothing crazy big.
Boss: Well, doesn't really matter. But, can you make an app and a website for us? We'll decide on the budget later.
Me: *kinda suspicious* Ehm, yep? I'll just make a wireframe and show you what I came up with.
*few weeks later*
Boss: So how's the app doing?
Me: I told ya that I'm making only wireframe. If you want the app you can:
a) pay for it
b) don't do anything and I'll make it open-source
Boss: No don't do that. We want the source on our FTP server.
Me: Riiight... That's a big no-no for me. It's gonna be on VCS, otherwise you can forget about the app and web.
Boss: *staring silently at me*
Me: ...
To this day, not a single response from him. We had one meeting where I presented the Website and app design, everyone was ok with it but no answer when I asked about the budget. Should I just scrap these projects and continue making them on github ('cuz I kinda like to learn new shit this way)5 -
So this is my first and official app

Any tips on how to promote a niche app?
From what I have heard, an effective way is to post it on a subreddit or some specific forum (like this). But since I hate it when other people do that and the chances are high to get banned for that, I am looking for other ways.8 -
Is someone else experiencing problems connecting to the App Store when trying to purchase devrant++? I look forward to supporting you!5

@dfox Now, I'm not a web dev (or really a dev of any kind quite yet) but I noticed that your web app doesn't show emoticons properly, making it confusing at times. Is this something you can set up support for on your side, or something I can or should do on my end? (This is on Chrome btw.)5

“The point of making a native app is to make it faster and more reliable than the web version”
Well, I guess Facebook Messenger for Windows misses that point entirely.2 -

How to market an app?
So I am working on this very simple app. It has more or less one feature and also a quite limited target group. I make the app mostly for myself because I need this one function that it has but it would be nice to get a few bucks out of it (after I get the bugs out of it). I can't tell you what the app does (I realize I sound one of those "like facebook but..." people) but imagine those really simple apps like the many water level apps you can find in the app store but only musicians will ever need it.
So here is the question: should I limit functions and show adds and sell a pro version or only offer one version and always show adds? It will be a handy tool for those who really use it so maybe someone would consider buying it. On the other hand, the features are way too cheap to spend money on (who would buy a flashlight app?).
Thanks for your help!1 -
FACEBOOK COMMON!
I get that they released the app because they had a deal with windows 10, but after so much time can't you at least improve it a tiny bit? Even with a webapp from messenger it works faster.
-I got a text
-Open the app
-LOADING
-LOADING| Got tired unlocked phone
-LOADING| turn on wifi
-LOADING| open the conversation
-LOADING CONVERSATION| replied
-FINALLY FINISHED AND I NO LONGER NEED IT
Now how to fix this? First try not to have a IOS imported app, try to add quick reply in the notification. YEP thats a thing! Skype UWP at least has that going for them.1 -

I am thinking about working on an app using which users will be able to create a survey or a set of multiple choice or sorting in a particular order questions amongst their friends or colleagues and at the end would get a response about which option received the most votes or which is the most preferred order.
The responses will be anonymous even to the creator of the questionnaire.
Is this idea good enough to work on? -

I was wondering how I can go about with the development of an Android app.
I've made a few small apps, but I want to make something a little more complex.
I've made the use case diagrams, high-fidelity prototypes and the database schema is almost ready.
I'm just stuck with how to model the app. Which architecture to use? How to actually implement a complex project?9 -

OSX users: What's your preferred mail app? I know I can use the web for that but I'd prefer a native solution because of the system integration (notifications, sharing).
The default Mail app is too primitive. I also tried Postbox but it always felt a bit rough and with today's paid update I think I may as well try to find a better alternative.
So, what are your suggestions and why?6
