6 months exactly into my development career. Finally starting to understand the product and feel like I’m finally getting the hang of stuff. Then a DB task comes up and I feel like I’m back at square one.1

As a keyboard enthusiast I can’t help but cringe when my coworker slaps and slams down on his 10 year old gross disgusting Logitech membrane keyboard.7

3rd week at my first developer job. Did a couple PRs with the help of my mentor. Still feel absolutely useless. I feel like a complete imposter.11

Finally got my first dev job. I am looking at the code base for my company. And it’s like I know how to code in this language. But I don’t know half of the advanced shit they’re doing. I understand they have more experience than me. But I’m just not sure how to catch up to them. Or be even on the same level as them? I guess just more out of office learning?
I can read what they’re putting in the code and understand how it works. But like how they came up with it I have no clue. I guess I’ll learn over time and have to put in some extra man hours.5 -
First day went great. Got my laptop all set up. I still have no idea what I’m doing. Imposter syndrome really set in as of yesterday. Looking at the code base and seeing all of the code made me feel stupid. I understand I won’t know the whole code base.
It’s also my first developer job. I just feel stupid. I’m super eager to learn. But I feel like I’m going to ask a lot of stupid questions as well.
Idk how to feel. I guess a fraud would be the right answer? How can I get more comfortable at my new and first developer job?9 -
First day of my first developer job is Monday. Oh shit. Nerves are starting to set in. What if I’m not good enough for the job? I mean I didn’t the coding assessment they wanted me to do. And passed. Which is why they gave me the job. But fuck man I’m nervous! I have never had a job like this before. And it’s remote after my first week. Oh shit.8

I come from a front facing retail background. And I start my first developer job on Monday. It is also fully remote. They said I can take mental breaks whenever And unlimited pto as long as I use it wisely and don’t abuse the hell out of it. It’s a small company of like 75 people. They don’t want us working past business hours unless it’s urgent and something breaks.
Im like “uh what? You’re not going to yell at me for taking a 5 minute break after a homeless meth head screams at me and waives a wooden sword at me trying to hit me?”
It just feel like this is a grown up job. Like a professional job. I feel like I have work ptsd from being mistreated in the work place for 8 years. It doesn’t feel real. Does anyone else feel like this?9 -
I got my first offer letter and they gave me more than my asking salary. I have been waiting for a year and half for this moment. Nothing can kill this feeling. I have been doing jobs I hate for my whole life. And finally I am able to do what I want and kick off my career. This is awesome.3

I did an assessment for a company and passed the tests. A Microsoft teams interview with the lead developer and 2 other developers is in 2 hours! Fingers crossed boys!!!! I hope I get my first developer job!!!4

So a recruiter for a company has been contacting me on LinkedIn. I finished what they wanted me to finish.
The recruiter takes several days to get back to me about the assessment I submitted (using xunit which I have never used and learned specifically for this position). The manager over developers was the one who linked up with me on LinkedIn and I messaged them on LinkedIn and they got back with me super quick and said he received the assessment and was going to look over it when he has free time.
Was it the right move to message the developer manager and go over the recruiter for the same company? Or does that show that I’m showing initiative that I want the position for their entry level spot?
He seemed super thrilled that I submitted the assessment in a timely manner and even took a sneak peak at it before he actually dove right into it. I’m really wanting my first developer job.6 -
Not really a rant. But I got 4/4 errors fixed using xunit(which I have never used before) during a take home assessment for a job. I’m hoping I get my first jr. developer job! Wish me luck1

Serious question.
I’m trying to start my career as an entry level developer. I have had an internship for a short period of time before the company fell apart and had to go back to my retail job to pay the bills. My question is, where are you guys applying to entry level jobs at? Like I have tried LinkedIn. But I looked for entry level and it came up with a 7+ year experience description in my area. Or 2-3 years experience. I’m just trying to find an entry level job man. Like how hard is it to find that? I’m a boot camp grad as well. But even with recruiters it’s so hard to find a job in my area that would take someone on that is so green in tech.
400+ applications and like 50 interviews. Decided to put my specialization in sql and c# and focus more on those because that’s what’s more popular in my area (tulsa, ok). I’m not 100% the best programmer or developer. But man I have the drive to learn and I guess that’s not good enough without experience. I’m at a mental breaking point right now.4 -

7+ years working as part of a development team and with the following technologies:
Node.js Typescript and Java-based, microservice-driven applications using Spring Boot or similar framework
RESTful API design / microservice architectures
MongoDB or any other NoSQL DB
Message queues e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka etc.
Modern MV*(MVC, MVVM, etc..) frameworks e.g. React, Angular, Vue etc.
JavaScript and design patterns, CSS and HTML
Modern CSS and view libraries e.g. RxJS, Angular Material, Typescript, JS ES6 etc.
Unit and UI testing using third party tools e.g. Jest, Cucumber, Groovy & Spock, etc.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field6 -
That feeling when a recruiter sends you a message to do an assessment to join their company as an entry level developer, sends you the link to the assessment but the link doesn’t work.
Then you reach back out to them for 3 days in a row and they don’t read the message or respond.5 -
-Welcome to our entry level positing with Xyz company. I know we told your recruiter we are very hands on with developers. But we aren’t. Also you will be the only developer and there is no team.
