Betrayals and Affairs ..
After trying development with vanilla js, then with the help of jQuery, then AngularJS, then Angular, then Vuejs, then React,
I spent the last 3-4 years of my life loving React and devoting all my frontend projects to React. React was so simple and straightforward and I ... I committed to it
but, I recently checked out Svelte, and maybe i shouldn't have let curiosity take the better of me but i did and, im heartbroken to say, I can no longer love react the same way. as nice as react was, like in any relationship, we had some ups and downs, i got bothered by some little details that i learned to live with, but Svelte .. Svelte solved these little twirks and it just felt even simpler...
I created a new Vite project today, and it asked me what framework to initialize, and i kept hopping between React and Svelte. for 10 minutes i was thinking of all the history i shared with React, of how scary it is to commit to something new, but i clicked on Svelte.
I know i may have betrayed a commitment to React, but sometimes things pile up and i .. I had to listen to my heart
Forgive me and thank you for reading my confession2 -
Had a guy text me saying that he developed a Discord clone 5 hours into a frontend bootcamp. Intrigued, I asked him to send me a link to it, because for a person starting from scratch, that's great!
And send me a link he did. Check it out, and give me your reviews.

I had to recreate my Revolut account this christmas, and now I created a Wise account too. Two more years of AWS free tier and GCP demo credits.2

I recently started my professional journey as a developer and I stumbled upon a very strange git repo configuration..
Background: The projects consist on a web app and a lot of backend services in C# (1 service on each project).
The project manager decided to configure the the git repo as a single repo with all of the different projects for the services and the project of the webapp. All in one. Everytime you update something the merge results absurd and this happened…18 -
Each time my colleague pronounces “integer” with a hard “g”, I feel like cutting my ears off with a rusted and blunt hacksaw. Anything to make it stop!17

I'm a fullstack dev, but this is coming from the point of view of frontend work in Rails 7. I'm using jsbundling-rails. I tried to get importmap to work, but that was fool's errand.
I absolutely love the module system in modern js. I love how closely it resembles the way python does things.
npm isn't the meme I was led to believe it is. I also don't need things like toString.js, so maybe that's why.
I also love using flexbox. It's so straightforward and I don't have to rely on hacks to do basic things.
Where have I been you ask? Over my head in paying work that never gave me the chance to update old but working code.
jquery and Bootstrap plague me from when I built these things years ago when they were needed to get things done quickly. My skillset and the technologies available to me have also drastically improved, allowing me to do things with fewer libraries. -
What the fucking is happening with react? They advice you to use NextJs but that thing is just Vercel trying to force us buy their servers. Are we going back to PHP ? Tightly coupled front-backend.
I used to just build any React/Front app and deploy the bundle on a bucket and let the CDN do the rest.
Now you need to spin up a fucking node server to just serve some fucking html. Wtf are we heading.
They say it's for the SEO, why not fix the SEO problem altogether then ? Plus there are already SEO solution out there for SPA.
I'm very disappointed in YouTubers like Theo that are out there pushing people to use vercel and showing tutorial in dep
Bro all we need is npm fucking fucking build8 -
Meetings are exhausting. My manager forces us to attend meetings which consumes 60% of my day. One day, he sent a meeting invite and the agenda was to talk about meetings. So it was a meeting about meetings. Meeting-ception 🤯2

The moment I see a mention of "preferred pronouns" on your resume, It's gonna get thrown in the bin, straight up.
I don't want my colleagues/team members to tiptoe around you.20 -
Had the first DDOS battle in my life lads, fuck me that was hard. I somehow managed to block these assholes, and some piece of shit was extorting money out of our business by messaging us in telegram. What a piece of shit.9

Fuck today and fuck every piece of shit manager and non-dev coworker that thinks they contribute anything meaningful besides being a fucking idiot and making things complicated. I hope my team, except for the other devs, jumps off a bridge into a valley of dicks and spikes. I hope my client tells them to personally fuck themselves for being such a useless waste of space. Fuck off and die cunts.1

Man it really pisses me off when people try to manage shit by keeping all the windows on the same desktop, meanwhile i create a new desktop for every app i open.7

*Me enjoying life*
Brain: You're wasting your potential. You should work more.
*Me on the job working*
Brain: You're wasting your youth. You should go out and enjoy life.
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT, BRAIN?
Brain: No productivity! Only Guilt!19 -
i should be paid for the time i spend thinking about code outside of work. i really dislike doing that, but then my brain just decides to dream about code anyway and i wake up at 2am with ideas and a headache12

It today's team meeting my manager asked, "What is GitHub?"
Seven years leading the group. Hired with no dev knowledge. Can't be bothered to acquire any.14 -
Lesson I learnt the hard way today: ticket every fucking task (including admin) to:
A. Cover your arse (if the tickets are not ready because they haven't given us enough information, push back on it before committing too much effort to doing it)
B. Better deliverable (what you output will probably be better quality because you worked out the requirements upfront + you know the audience)
C. You have something to show management when they want to try and overwork you some more4 -
Story Time
One of my cousins works in an MNC and his CTC is 30 Lakhs per annum ( USD 36,591 )
My mom used to compare me to that cousin, like how Asian countries parents stereotypically do,
Until last week when my mom and aunt were chatting and, out of nowhere, my aunt explained to my mom, what the difference between CTC and actual salary is.
The cousin's CTC is above amount but he takes home only 1 Lakh a month making his take-home salary about 12 Lakhs per annum ( USD 14,636 )
I am a little relieved, now that my parents understand that CTC doesn't mean take-home salary which was something I was trying to explain them before, but they used to brush me off saying I was looking for excuses.2
