been a developer for 8 years (after college) and its somehow just dawned on me that no, architecture is not you projects folder structure :/4

Difficult tasks, dog is sick, S.O. suffering from depression, sleep deprived, and now I accidentally type "rm -r / ./" instead of "rm -r ./" on the production server. Whyyyyy12

Its nice to work for a client that does not call broken features "garbage".
I mean I get it, broken code is garbage but it makes the hours and minutes leading to meetings less anxious when I know I won't be hearing comments like that.3 -
Trying to understand why the last guy who worked on my current project gutted out the framework specific data layer and replaced it with component-level ajax calls4
-
I find that using unopinionated frameworks is more stressful for me because I have to make many design decisions myself which stresses me out. On the flip side, I learn so much about development in general which makes me happy.2

I have this thing where I really want to code something, but I don't know where to start. So I end up alt-tabbing through vs code, r/nosleep, facebook, and r/mechanicalkeyboards and then cursing my 'lack of time' as the reason I can not make any cool stuff.2

Have been pissed at the guy who wrote the js on the project im working on (its just so messy!). Same project has python scripts I need to look at to squash a bug, and this. code. is. so. clean. They should have let this guy write everything in python. Im ashamed I ever hated on him.4

tech debt is a b!+ch you can only pay if your client somehow approves the budget for something they will never notice.6

In one of my first programming classes, I remember asking my instructor why "System.out.println()" has the periods between System, out and println. All I got back was a "thats just how it is". This really pissed me off and I ignored that instructor for the rest of the semester. Passed the class but since I didn't bother to self study either, wasted a lot of time resources. Hindsight, should have looked it up myself.6

Im one of the people who got laid off due to covid19. I was hoping to find work at the same salary my previous job paid me at the very least. A friend of mine pointed out the fact that since i've been in the industry a while that I could ask for a lot more than what I made. I didn't believe him, but since my wife agreed, I've been asking for double my previous salary. I actually got a job that met my ask. I'm glad to say that after being afraid I was getting in over my head, I can actually do this. Glad my friend told me my worth and I hope others have friends that can do the same for them.14

Friends: Finally got my stream setup ready! now I can stream pokemon swsh!
Me: Finally got my app to run in IE 11! Now I can fix that bug that only exists on IE 11. I hate IE 117 -
For some reason nothing i've been working on has been satisfactory lately (failed code reviews requiring me to re do the code).
The better way to do things seem so obvious after I speak to my seniors and I don't understand why the solutions never occurred to me.
Anyone ever feel like they're getting worse at programming?3 -
Got contacted for a job "interview" by a company because they were looking for "people with my skill set". All my profiles say I am a fullstack web dev with experience in frontend js frameworks and js and php backend frameworks.
Come in to find the "interview" is an exam. Ok, fine. My brain could do with some exercise.
After the basic IQ type questions, I get the web dev exam.
It is 95% of the questions are about CSS and HTML basics.
WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK.7 -
Thought the package-lock.json file wasn't working. Turns out it wasn't being copied into the Dockerfile.

Was working on an issue that had to deal with destroying a session on browser close. Took me a looong time to realize that it wasn't working because my firefox and chrome browsers were set to restore sessions on startup

Came to work today expecting it to be shitty because I needed to work on a tool that gave me trouble in the past.
Lo and behold, not only did I not have a problem but I discovered the tools powers that I did not even know it could do.
I guess I improved in the last few months. -
I've been working as a developer for almost 4 years now and I still feel like I don't know a damn thing about computers. :/17

Non Programmer friend: cool! are you hacking?
Me: Nope. Just forgot what I was trying to do4 -
Am I the only one who feels motivated to be the best programmer I can be, only when I'm about to sleep? :/2

The music I've been getting into the zone to while coding stopped working today. Why brain whyyyyyyyyyyy.
FYI, it was childish gambinos albums. Listening to them form oldest to latest worked for me ever since 'this is america' was released haha2 -
Some days I just can't seem to get any of my code working. What makes it worse is that it gets 'harder' to figure out the longer it takes because the stress of it all really wears me down...2

Me: *Runs composer install on workstation then reads manga on phone*
Terminal: DO NOT RUN COMPOSER AS ROOT/SUPER USER
Me: *glances at computer screen, sees the words run and super user. Ctrl + C. type in, sudo composer install*
5 mins later
Me: *facepalm*3
