so i ordered free samples of microcontrollers because i didnt want to waste money... in the receipt, i saw Oct 28, 2017 and im like oh cool i guess ill receive it on that date.

today they sent me an email saying they have already shipped the package today and im like wtf why just now and i looked over the receipt again and saw:

SHIPMENT DATE: October 28, 2017

i swear to god i flippes shit because it may actually arrive in a month or two and the project has to be submitted in a month. goddamit and there is no other way! i have to buy it :(( the worst part of it is that i have another set of microcontrollers TO BE SHIPPED in January. theyre for the next project which should be submitted in January.

lesson: TIME IS FUCKING GOLD. if u want free sample, order them at least 3 months before u start the project.

I am a french student and I was wondering if college sucks everywhere ...
This is my third college year and I have the feeling that I am wasting my time.

I am in a quite good engineering school but most of the programming courses suck because «teachers» are clueless about the course that they give.

I am not here to tell that «I am better than them blabla» but I just wanted to know if the quality of education has slightly dropped not only in France.

I am really interested in your opinion, feel free to debate in the comments :)

P.S. we will be new to these languages...will start learning first... we have worked on java, C and C++

I want to change my domain name by moving the actual website files to a new domain. It has 4 articles and has about 700 page views per day. Will search engines blacklist the new site for 'copied' content?

I was asked to add full page takeover announcements to a website, even though there's a perfectly reasonable announcement system already in place.
I objected on religious grounds - doing that would undoubtedly get me sent to developer hell (also knows as COBOL).
But the client wasn't convinced so I made them a demo. I immediately got a message back saying "wow, that's a lot more annoying than I thought, please remove it".
Of course all of this was done in a separate branch, so this blasphemous code would never be in my master commit history.

Before I took on my current position (internal transfer), I stated that for what my boss asked for I would need a small team.
He agreed to that and promised I would get 2-3 developers.
6 months after (with countless reminders) he told me I could train some people at one of our providers.
Turns out those guys were Java developers, even though I asked for C# (since our codebase is .net)
After a few training sessions, where concepts as source control were a big topic ("why not just copy the code to a new folder with _good_ naming?"), I gave them a test assignment.
After reviewing their code I just gave up. They cannot program. They don't understand concepts like scoping of variables. Concepts of separation of responsibility.

I told my boss this but I had to make it work with them.

I went to my bosses boss (Head of IT) with my resignation in hand, since I felt my boss didn't want to support me actually getting a team. After a few talks I was asked to "keep it cool" and wait until he presented his new organization.

Now my boss asked me for which skills new developers should have. To which I could just laugh at him and forward countless mails from the last 6-8 months asking for developers.

I have a Chromebook 15 (CB5-571). I'm trying to switch to the beautiful (and kinda weird) Programmer's Dvorak keyboard layout.
I'm using Sway and Arch Linux, so the software side is okay.
But I need to somehow temporarily write on top of my keyboard keys with the layout replacements.
If there is something already out there for my laptop, yay!
Otherwise, I have tac-it (?) and lots of paper.
What do I do?

Ok so I was talking to my computer science teacher earlier and he said that he would rather use vim over PHPStorm for creating a laravel project. WTF!

Normally I would be cool with it, but he has pushed faulty code to git over 8 times. I'm just done.

It saddens me that comp sci teachers at my school don't know how to use git and stackoverflow

It's official, my coworkers have a hard time understanding the logic of debugging.
