Watch 3 videos about iOS/Swift on YouTube, and now I'm getting a frontpage full of recordings of app development events and iPhone reviews.
Listen to one kpop track on Spotify out of curiosity, and now the recommendation playlist is polluted with music I really don't like.
If we are going to hand our balls to AI and expect it to be a glorious fondling fest, don't cry if it suddenly realizes "nuts? aren't those supposed to be cracked?".
I mean what's fucking next? Where will this "smart" shit end up?
I accidentally click on a my little pony meme, and amazon will drone-strike me with 500 gallons of glitter? I drunkenly mumble "OK google how do kangaroos fuck" in the back of a self-driving Uber, I'm going to be dropped off in a shady alley and raped by a dozen walibis?
STOP FUCKING TRYING TO UNDERSTAND ME, INTERNET. I JUST WANT TO FUCKING USE YOU, NOT BE USED BY YOU, THIS WASN'T THE DEAL.
If you truly understood me, internet, I would probably not even give a fuck about privacy. But you are all building these profiles wrong.
You don't understand that I might be interested in juggling tricks today, tomorrow it might be all about crocheting a wool sweater for my penis, and the day after that I'm curious how many corpses it would take to fill up an olympic swimming pool.
NO I'M NOT ACTUALLY INTERESTED IN THAT QUORA, STOP SENDING ME RECOMMENDATION EMAILS ON HIDING MURDER VICTIMS, MY BOSS WILL THINK I'M WEIRD.
Yeah of course I could pulls some plugs, anonymize the shit out of my online life. I respect those who manage to just say "Fuck you Google, I'm sick of your shit, I'm going cold turkey".
But these platforms are feeding us heroin-laced candy.
All your coworkers friends and family with their oled-lit zombiefaces, staring at tiny screens, all absent-mindedly grasping your ankles whispering "aww take one more hit with us, check out this funny youtube clip, let me send it to you on whatsapp.... what you don't have whatsapp? You deleted your facebook? don't you love grandma anymore? Why do you hate your family?"
Before you know it, you watched ten episodes about cultivating cactuses, have a year subscription to brilliant, skillshare, squarespace and 3 different organic foodboxes are delivered to your door, Netflix is spamming you about a cupcake baking show, and you're thinking about same-day delivery for a baseball bat so you can just beat the crap out of every pretty glass display you see.
I want to break up with you, Internet.
I love you, but I hate you.
Since you passed 2.0, you have grown into a manipulative bitch.
I just don't know if I'm strong enough. It's all "let's just be friends" with you, but I know you'll be trying to reel me back in.
Before I know it, you're feeding me cookies once again, and I'll end up balls deep with your trackers stuck to my dick.21 -
*PM on drugs*
PM: The destination list on our Infinity Rider app is not updating even after the user changes their pickup location.
Me: ???
PM: Infinity App not updating after pick up point change.
Me: Not really sure what you mean... Can I get a screen record?
PM: {{sends screen record}}
PM: You see it's showing results of old search. Not good!!!
Me: {{Watch media half way through and saw the obvious}}
Me: Results on available destination are relative to the user's current location and not the pickup address.
PM: Why would that be? Not good enough!
Me: You actually requested that implementation after I had previously made the destination recommendation list relative to selected pickup address.
PM: Please revert immediately!!!
Me: Hmmm... You told me the reason why that implementation was needed was to prevent users from selecting interstate addresses because they could.
PM: Ooh true. You can leave as is.
PM: {{proceeds to delete all older messages but last}}
Me: (⊙_⊙)
{{ 4 hours later }}
PM: I think we need to look into this implementation a second time.5 -
The time when I've felt like a badass, was when I was bored at a Birthday party at restaurant.
I didn't want to use my mobile data, so I tried to use the wifi of the restaurant. I didn't want to ask the password of the wifi, so I tried to get access by guessing. At first try I got it by entering "nameOfRestaurantCurrentYear".
Then I was browsing Play Store and there was a recommendation of an app (forgot the name) that analyses which the device is connected to wifi. So that got me interested that I installed on my phone.
So I played a little with and discover several Samsungs and iPhones connected to it (Some of the them had their real name next to the brand. It would be funny to yell their name out loud and they would be looking around.)
But there was one device that I didn't recognized. I searched on the web but found nothing. So later as I go to pay my part, I noticed that the credit card device had a wifi icon on it. So I looked over to the cash register and saw the name of the brand. It was the brand I didn't know of.
So basically they were using transfer payments over a public wifi.10 -

Just a random app recommendation.
If anyone of you haven't tried NewPipe yet, you should. Open source app for YouTube. All Google nonsense was removed and many awesome features were added (as seen below).
You can also play music with your screen turned off :)20 -
My phone just died. Got a new phone on recommendation of friends and flash Jolla on it. The OS is super nice but the "Android support" doesnt work. No lastpass, no netflix, no prime, signal works half, no banking app.
I really need my windows phone back. It just worked without issues. After two android phones and now a Jolla in about two years im kinda done with all this shit.14 -
I remember my colleague who was DevOps guy (15+ years exp) in our one very good project about kids' edutainment.
He always breaks things & blames others when only he had admin access of the tool.
When client was very much interested in Android app, our that DevOps focusing totally on REST API & ignored Android app related DevOps tasks.
Our Android CI/CD was not complete till project ended. Due to his stubborn nature we couldn't take benifit of automation testing.
You can't tell him how to do any task, if you tell then it will be taken by him as an insult to his intelligence.
He would waste his 2 business weeks to find a way to do that task, then he would do some frugal trick half heartedly then he will leave it. Still he wouldn't accept your help due to his ego & he would work on tasks which he likes even though they are of low priority.
He was hellbent on cost cutting so he reduced caching availability to save extra billing, now we couldn't had enough speed for even 10 users to show recommendation feed by API.
Due to this our client couldn't show demo to angel investors properly & didn't get funding.
I don't how with such a bad attitude, he could survive so long.
He had plenty of training certificates (Salesforce etc.) with very little practical knowledge.
God save people of his current & future projects.2 -
Lets say you used a dating app. It explicitly told you "please do not share any personally identifiable information when chatting with any boy/girl with this dating app because your chat will be stored and processed in our server to improve the recommendation algorithm of potential dates and autocompleting your flirty talk to increase your successful rate." at the beginning of the app, but you didn't read carefully and clicked "agree". After a while, you noticed the dating app already stored all your private chat in their server for machine learning.
Although legally I believe that dating app would still be GDPR compliant,
the question is, will you continue using that dating app or not?3 -
I'm looking for a good JIRA app for Android. I've been using JIRA in Motion, but it lacks flexibility.1

Hi devRant,
I'm starting a little side project (a web app for finding/booking musicians) and have to decide which language to use for the backend. I have broad experience with Java and C#, but it would also be nice to learn something new (Kotlin? Go? Rust?)
Additionally, what's your recommendation for databases? (SQL vs. NoSQL vs. ...)
For the frontend, I'd like to use typescript, webpack and Vue.js.
Any thoughts? ;)8 -
Need recommendation on which server side language/framework to use along with my new react native app.
Thanks3 -
Is there any language or framework I am guaranteed to get a job in if I learn right now?
I know this is a shot in the dark cuz if such did exist, every job seeking entrant would simply flock to it; but I don't know how developers switch between stacks. Off the top of my head, recommendation but what if such social capital is missing?
Some background: I built and published a php framework called Suphle (angry-cray-9c191b.netlify.app), which surprisingly neither got any users after a year nor impressed any php employer to hire me despite hundreds of applications sent out
Rather than throwing in the towel, I wish to switch to some other software stack but I don't know where to start, If with all my proven php experience, I'm unable to land any php roles. I have tried searching for nestjs and spring boot internships or junior but nothing comes up. I have run out of time to study a language I will never profit from
I have a flutter app on playstore, built together with a product designer who worked on the ui cuz my front end chops aren't strong. I will preferably continue in a back end environment but if I can solicit immediate employment, I don't mind brushing up on any available tech, be it devops or what have you. I've also worked with spring in a professional capacity, although a very turbulent one where the team we had issues ranging ranging from absence of adequate docs for something as basic as authentication, to using nosql (totally unnecessary), trying to separate codebase into different projects to mirror the real life department (this was my idea). I don't know if it's Conway's law but I decided project should be split into admin, user and common modules/repos since they were being worked on by different devs and had little in common. Unfortunately, there is no doc for importing/sharing local projects so we had more days chucked off
Anyway, I Built a react native app a lifetime ago. Been around the block a bit and pretty confident I won't take much time to get up to speed with a tech. Where do I go or how do I start? I stay in Nigeria so may be limited from on-site roles as well12 -
Looking for a recommendation on what I should use to code on my phone.
I own an iPhone and usually spend a lot of time on public transit. I thought that it would be better to spend that time coding or learning something new. I am semi experienced in programming and this would help me get better as well.
Any recommendations on any app (possibly free) that I could download to kinda allow me to code and learn at the same time?5 -
