DevRant is cool, mostly because we are united. We don't agree on OS, language, theme, or tabs. But we are united by code. Next time you want to troll someone, think about why you became a developer. To Code.7
My stickers just arrived. And I especially love the encoding of “ß” within the street name.
German. It's hard.
Next time, just use upper letter and replaced “ß” with “SS” or just use a “B”. The B is especially fine to drive typographers mad.8
It's 21:42. I had 1 month to write a report on my internship. Day after tomorrow is submission. I'm starting now.
I deleted Facebook Inc.'s products long time ago, deleted YouTube app, removed Quora account, put filters on suggestions for Stack Exchange networks, blocked Reddit, stopped Spotify, started Trello/Wunderlist/Evernote to organise thoughts, ForestApp and StayFocusd for controlled browsing, deleted Tumblr etc. All this just to focus on the report and get it done as soon as possible.
Now I FOUND devRant! What the fuck world! Why!? I'm now ranting about issue on devRant with this rant. <- this sentence is a meta, if you didn't realise.9
I used to kill some time reading devrant some years ago and I just stopped because most rants were basically whinny little teenagers that think they know everything, keepers of knowledge and truth, being clearly crying babies about “ boo-hooo my coworker is not using the language I like” or something they clearly still have a lot to learn about.
Grow the fuck up. I guarantee you that when you have a few more years of experience you’ll realize how little you knew and how great you thought you were when in reality you knew shit.
Hell, I’m on my 16th year of programming experience and what o thought I knew last year had so many knowledge gaps.
Friendly advise, be more humble. You know shit. Get off your high horse and consider for a second you’re not as smart you think you are.
With that said, there are some really good rants here. But it didn’t change much from years ago.11
I’m quite new to devRant, but it’s really growing on me.
I found a respectful, helpful and joyful community and I’m just glad to have found it in this difficult period of coronavirus.
I wish you all to go through and stay healthy!16
Finally fucking set up full working quadruple boot on my XPS!
Thanks to nvidia+Intel Optimus for teaching me how to write hundred times nouveau.modeset=020
Why do the notifications say "<insert your name here> +1'd your (Rant||Comment)" when it should say "++'d your (Rant||Comment)". 😜6
There's this weird situation where someone rants about their work situation and commenters dive in with suggestions and comments about what they should and shouldn't do without knowing all the details.
It really pisses me off not just when it happens to me, but I see other posters using devrant here as impromptu group therapy only to be bombarded with "do x or suggest to your boss...".
Now... I've been suggesting and asking the same thing to my boss for over a year, still no change. I'm demotivated because of the lack of progress, I can and do keep bringing it up with him. However having someone here (presumably well meaning) suggest basically the same thing doesn't help, it just reminds me of the frustrating situation.
When this place is supportive its great, when we're all second guessing each other it's frustrating.
Can we all be just a little more excellent to each other? I know I'll try to be. Instead of assuming someone hasn't done x or y, I'll try to be a little more supportive and assume that the most obvious things to try, has been tried.1
Every time I write a rant or a comment from my phone, and I want to temporarily switch to another app to search or copy something, it's a fucking Russian roulette.
Will there be enough RAM, or will Android stop devRant thus losing all my content forever? Let's find out! The gun is loaded.
(What about handling the full activity lifecycle like Android requires?)
Now, I would like to attach a picture of the feared "task switch button", but I'm too afraid to lose everything, so fuck it3
@dfox/@trogus can you tell me why when you first started to monetize devRant you chose merchandise (at least when I first joined about 9 months ago that was the only way to support devRant)? Plus, do you think it was a good choice? It seems like ads or in-app purchases would be many devs first thought when they want to monetize their product.3
THANK YOU DEVRANTS for supporting comment modifying!!
My crappy Samsung Galaxy routinely screws up words and punctuation, and I don't always remember to read it before sending. You've helped me seem articulate and non-idiotic.1
During the time I've been part of the DevRant community, I've noticed that users (including myself) sometimes contribute posts that are not quite rants. These are sometimes posts about the DevRant itself, reaching out to the community for assistance on a project, etc.
This inspired me to create an unofficial Slack chat for the DevRant community. I call it MetaRant.

@dfox I cannot scroll down the list of somebody's or my own rants on the profile screen. I use the Android app, and scrolling after a point becomes a tedious process only allowing a millimeter at a time. Could you please fix this?5
