Drivers across Operating Systems.
Windows: What the fuck is any of this? Here's something minimally functional.
Mac: That's not made by Apple, fuck off.
Linux: Here you go, have fun if you're missing functionality!5

Fuck you Microsoft8
For Windows driver update, found a great (open source) tool to update or install missing drivers.
My dell laptop (Windows 10) screen used to go blank or some bubble used to appear may times a day. Used Dell driver update tool, no update, says all driver up to date.
Then used Snappy Driver Installer tool, which detected my laptop details correctly.
Then it showed that my display driver was almost a year old and there were couple of updates, latest being just last month. In addition to that, there were 30+ updates on disk drivers, networking, sensors, bluetooth, audio etc.
First updated my display driver, upon success, slowly updated the rest of it. Now, the system worked entire day without any issue. Also, my laptop fan used to run full speed seems to have slowed down.
Also, my external monitor clarity has improved.
ps: worked for me, but be careful. Check it thoroughly before updating, update only those drivers which are giving trouble and there are no updated drivers available from windows or manufacturers.10
So my mom says her printer isn't working anymore. I sit and battle with drivers and mysteriously missing virtual usb ports for two hours, give up, we decide to buy a new printer.
Next day she says her scanner isn't working either.
It's only then that I notice her USB hub cable is unplugged.. aargh.
There was a time in my life when I had one of these multiple times a day. I was a windows user then. I’d click one thing and it would literally do the opposite. Shitty software vendors sold us software that had error messages with no text in them. Microsoft office yuk. You had to download unsigned drivers from the machines vendor and just install them, praying that there wasn’t a rootkit in the kernel code you were willfully injecting, and that there was no bloatware in the installer (there pretty much always was). There were multiple times that I downloaded the right driver from the right vendor and it refused to install because “this machine is not compatible” and I had to hex edit the binary to make it go.
File names that got too long would fuck the entire system up and you couldn’t delete them, at least not without a linux live cd or yes, dropping caches and hex editing the disk, the system would just randomly stop booting up one day and you’d never know why, sometimes it was literally because a dll file was missing or corrupted and I would just replace the file from another working machine and it would be fine. How the fuck even? But that “only” happened three times. All the other times I never ever figured out why my install was broken.
everything you wanted to do requires a mouse, and the c++ API was nonstandard for reasons that nobody alive understands.
I will never ever be going back. Had to go to therapy after being a windows user.5
When your PC is slow af cause of the hard disk so you make a dumb decision and change your hard disk with a new one and you gotta install Windows on it but you only have very old images of it so it requires a special USB driver to install the system and THEN you realise the setup image has NO DRIVERS for ethernet, wlan OR usb so you can do absolutely NOTHING with your fresh system so you decide to install linux instead but you realise YOU'VE REMOVED ALL X64 IMAGES BECAUSE YOU'RE FUCKING DUMB SO you prepare a bootable Kali USB to copy basic drivers and DriverBooster into the hard disk to install them on Windows.
AND THEN YOUR FRIENDS CALL YOU AND TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE 2 EXAMS TOMORROW BUT YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE THE COMPUTER SO YOU JUST GO FUCKING KILL YOURSELF
This is why I HATE MY LIFE SO MUCH IT GOES SO WRONG !!!!4
It finally happened. They just kept pushing, and pushing, and pushing. Asking for more and more features in an app that was a hard-coded demo from the beginning. Well it's all coming down now.
That database that was added in, missing half the API.
New features, broken.
Old features, broken.
Drivers, need updating.
I tried to tell them, I really did. That maybe we should stop asking the client what they want, and instead sell them what we have. Well, now we have nothing.3
Most the devs are yelling Linux is best and blah. But since I installed eOS on my new ideapad my productivity is zero.
I'm just solving problems with the OS or other software. It seems some of the drivers are missing, because sometimes this fucking piece of shit just don't boots or just hangs. Installing node and npm was definitely one of the worst experiences because I messed up sudo privileges... I had to change my workflow because node-sass wasn't able to compile because of this.
And still I kind of feel more comfortable with eOS. 😥16
