I met my girlfriend due to code.

There were these free courses for competitive programming as a preparation for the informatics olympiad and we got along and made weird programs and had a great time. Most of the other people there were much younger than us, and in the actual finals she ended up beating me by quite a bit, yet she still dares to say I am a better programmer.

Hey there! I am pretty new but old to the community xD. Let me explain and introduce myself.

The post might be a little longer, depending on my inspiration, read it at your own risk ;)

I am here on devRant for almost a year now but, this is my first post. I wasn't active until a week ago or so. Why? Well, at the time, I didn't find posts interesting enough to keep me from work or school. I must addmit I was either stupid or confused (not uncommon for me).

Well, I am high school student who, when not prepearing for an entrance exam for faculty, is learning and doing indie game developent with my cousin's support.

Even though I was intermediate gamer whan I was younger, passionate but not addicted, I didn't even think about getting into game development until my cousin showed me one secific game and told me a story about it. Let's stop here and let me tell you why I tagged this rant with wk88.

I've already mentioned my cousin, he's my wk88 trouble. Why? I'll tell you only one thing. He studies CS at University of Cambridge, UK. He earned the scholarship by competing and earning multiple medals in programming in International Olympiad in Informatics. And here I am struggling with ******* trigonometric identities. But nvm, let's move on.

I told you about the game but didn't actually tell you the title and who developed it. So, my inspiration for getting into game development was Alexander Bruce , guy who designed Antichamber. If you haven't heard of it before/tried it yet, give it a shot, you probably won't be disappointed of you like fucking with your brain.

Here're some facts:
- Started learning programming at the age of 12, thought by my brother using Free Pascal in Lazarus.
- Have been learning C++ for 4 years and C# for 3, both at the same time.
- While learning these two, started building .NET based back-end and doing SQL stuff; failed to finish it, gave up after I realised I needed some advanced front-end skills, which I didn't want to learn, to implement a lot of things I wanted.
- Played a piano since I was 11 and been playing around with music production recently.

Here I am now, learning Blender and hoping that one day I will publish the game I've been developing for past year and a half.

Hope you didn't waste your time reading this. I will try to keep you up with things I experience durning future development.

Finals for the Belgian Olympiad in Informatics in an hour. I'm stressed. Had the second best score in the first round so pressure is on

there's this club at my school, called STEM, and another called "science olympiad." both are pretty cringey, bad, or boring. science olympiad was just for the college credit. during the intro to the club, they said there was a coding section. "game on!" is what they dubbed it as, where basically you're timed to make a game in scratch. i'm fucking tired of it. why is scratch considered programming? don't get me wrong, i'll write an OS in PHP before i say code.org is better than scratch, but fuck it. its a fucking interpreted language that's interpreted by another interpreted language. i don't understand why this shit is still used. scratch isn't good. please codecademy or w3schools or just write in binary directly, but not scratch. my hand hurts from dragging and dropping, my eyes hurt from the light theme, my imaginary cat committed suicide after learning about scratch's mascot. fuck it. now onto stem club, fuck it too. not for being bad (well, kinda), but for not being more recognized. it should be above science olympiad, and other clubs because you actually have to think instead of just memorize. but alas, we still were offered the choice of scratch to program the robot. sigh. arduino much? i guess not. challenging much? nope. was i elected "leader"? with three of my friends out of the eight there, i could have been, but no. effort in this would be depressing.

I took part in the selections for the Italian Olympiad of Informatics. First question:
Preferred language?
1. C/C++
2. Pascal

What if I only knew Java, COBOL, or Python? It just seems like such a limiting thing, is it normal?
Does it happen in other countries too?

I am preparing for InoI( Indian informatics Olympiad ). Any tip would be helpful. I am gonna use Java. What algorithms and data structures should I focus on ?

Been coding with python and like I mean I barely know any other language. So my school asked me if I wanted to go for an olympiad and i was like sure. Python is an accepted language but c++ is the recommended there so I go for the course offered by the organisers. On the schedule it was written that we were gonna learn the syntax of c++ on the first day. I go in, see everyone codng like mad and the organiser comes up to me and is like oh this is a pre course contest. MOREOVER, after the contest which I fucked up because like I dont know c++ and the course was in c++, the trainer spends the entire break playing osu and afterwards during the actual lecture dives straight into vectors and stacks and my brain was melting. mfw he said "does everybody remember". I swear it was the worst course ever. Sorry for such an unorganised and long rant. Had a rough day

Asked teacher about participating at local programing olympiad. Other classmates who are good at it said its not worth it cuz its too hard, but I still have hope 😓

I love the logic that underlies algorithm. But nowadays I fear that this is almost disappeared, now programming a software is 5% logic and 95% read system specificactions, documentation, implement third part solutions, think about who developed the system thought it had to be and rant because you don't understand it. I like to solve math problems using algorithms rather than deal with user interactivity, for example. Yes, all this is pointless, but sometimes I miss the exercises that I did at school or in "IT Olympiad"

My time management skills are abysmal. I am in my senior year in school and a few months back decided to appear for the informatics Olympiad. So now I am reading a book on discrete math, while reading books on algorithms and data structures. I code every day for around two hours. I have my math syllabi in school which is all calculus. My physics syllabi consists of all of EM and Optics along with nuclear physics. I haven’t touched chemistry since the beginning of this year. I try to give a considerable amount of time to math and physics because I f***ing love studying those. But doing that means slacking off on the Olympiad stuff. I am completely overwhelmed. My midterms are two weeks away and I am so unprepared. I am really clueless on how to manage time.

I've been assigned the task of contacting teams for Blind Code, Geek Quiz and Hackathon, by university's Olympiad team.
