My favourite dev tool? I would't be able to do my work without any tool, which's in the list. I love IntelliJ IDEA & Webstorm, Java, JavaFX, Maven, Git & Gitlab, TeamCity, Upsource, YouTrack, Artifactory, wtf that list's kinda the complete tech stack. But I completly hate AWT & Swing (AWT fucks up on my Linux install, such a frame creates in about 10-20 seconds, if you test the app locally, you loose approximately 15 seconds per minute, and Swing uses AWT internally too), I hate Gradle (screw Google for standardizing it), and so on. Wow that's like my complete tech stack, what the fuck happend? The question was one tool, help me.

Spending 2 days trying to figure out why code signing wasn’t working when deployment is started from teamcity. Every time I tried manually it worked, but through teamcity it just kept telling me that no certificate could be found.

I finally twigged what the problem was, my code signing certificate is smart card based and you can’t access it if is requested from a RDP session. I had launched the teamcity build agent from an RDP session a few days back without thinking…

Rebooted and started the buildagent via VirtIO VNC and low and behold it started working again.

So we called out our project manager and tech leader, who sent out an email last Friday to our bosses and stakeholders a project schedule - which we never knew about until we saw it in our inboxes - that showed we had already completed development and would go on to UAT testing by next week.

Except if you look at our agile board we have 3 weeks of dev tasks left and a couple more for testing and QA. Then our dev environment is shit because the deployment steps in TeamCity were not properly done by Dev Ops. And we still don't have a UAT environment created, much less tested out. And the project manager is about to go on a one-month vacation. Great!

So we replied back with all the aforementioned information (less the swearing and name-calling) and sent it out to the same recipients, including our bosses and stakeholders.

That was such a fun Friday afternoon.

Today's epic cringe was me moaning at my team on the Slack channel about people breaking the test suite, followed a couple of seconds later by TeamCity letting us all know that I'd just broken the test suite.

Build pipelines are awesome. What's not awesome is forgetting the 'pipeline' bit.

Sure, let's have each TeamCity job in the 'pipeline' build the deployable from different places! You must manually merge your code from dev to test to release.

What's that? The functionality working in dev isn't there in production? I wonder how that happened.

When the QA guy (outsourced to India) asks you what version of Firefox it is that teamcity is using to run the code *double faceplate*

IDE battle--- what is everyone using?

My main languages are- C# - laravel - node/angular - HTML/ CSS. And use git / aws.

Fuck teamcity. You locked my domainaccount 2 times already this week. Even when i used a accesskey it queried the AD.

Why the fuck does Visual Fucking Studio SSIS delete scripts in script codes? A completely bullshit bug in VS 2017, completely in fucking excusable to find my fucking scripts GONE when I try to run the package. Download it from TeamCity? Still gone.

How does a business like MICROSOFT let this sort of bug even happen?

What is the best approach for Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery/Deployment? I'm using SVN as code repository and I need to identify the files that goes to Test/QA env. and the ones that goes do Prod env. (by Commit message or something else) via sFTP.
Any help would be appreciated. Already tested Jenkins, GoCD and Jetbrains Teamcity.

I recoded a REST endpoint that transfers large amounts of data from our db using a streaming response so it doesn't crash the server...

Pretty easy... Mostly just needed someone that knew wtf it was or has a bit of curiosity and asks questions... rather than just keep on doing what everyone else is doing...

Who hasn't seen logs updating in near real time in TeamCity, Jenkins... for the last 5yrs+... No one else ever wondered how it's done?

So yes solving a production issue with old technology and being called a genius... I guess is pretty satisfying?

Guys, about Continuous Integration/Delivery using SVN as repo... What is the best approach? It would be nice if it could trigger the files that should come to prod by commit message or something like that...

I have a Java project at work that now has some library that's using some other library that has a security issue. We have a scan during the TeamCity build that detects it but error message contains the exact library with the issue. But not the one that defined in the pom. So I can't tell from the error which pom dependency needs to be replaced.

Is there a way to get the full dependency tree?
