TABLE BASED WEB DESIGN
I was surprised there were no rants about this topic before I realized it was more than a decade back 😳
We've never had it better! So to help add a little perspective for all those ranting about what is unarguably the golden age for web developers... let me fill you in on web dev in the late 90's;
JavaScript was a joke. No seriously! - I once got laughed out of the room for suggesting we try use it for more than disabling a button - (I wanted to check out the new XHR request thingy [read AJAX]).
HTML was simple and purely a markup language (with the exception of the marquee tag). The tags were basically just p,ul,ol,h*,form inputs, img and table and html took 10 minutes to learn. Any style was inline and equally crude - anything that wasn't crude could not be trusted and probably wouldn't render at all in most browsers (never mind render correctly).
There were rumors of a style TAG and something called a cascading style sheet which were received with much skepticism since it went against the old ways and any time saved would be lost writing multiple [IE version specific] style sheets for each browser just to get it to work - so we simply didn't.
No CSS meant the only tags you had to work with to create a structured layout were br, hr and table... so naturally EVERYTHING was in nested tables! JS callback hell can't touch this! - it was not uncommon to have 50+ nested tables all with inline style in a single page which would be edited without any dev tools or linting.
You would spend 30 minutes scanning td tags until your eyes bled to find something, make a change, ftp the file to the server, reload the web page and then spend 10 minutes staring at the devastation on your screen convinced you broke
the internet before spotting an un-closed td tag with your bloodshot eyes.
Tables were not just a silver bullet - they were the ONLY bullet and were in the wild west!
Q: Want an inline form or to align your inputs left?
A: Duh table!
Q: Want a border with round-corners, a shadow or blur?
A: That's easy! Your gonna want to put that table in the center cell of another table then crop a image of the border into 6 smaller images to put in the surrounding cells... oh and then spend 10 minutes fucking with mystical attributes like cell-padding and valign to get them flush.
...But hey at least on the bright-side vertically & horizontally centering stuff was a breeze!22 -

Current task:
Somehow, one of my predecessors made some sort of custom hook tied to woocommerce check out that pipes some data into a nightmarish spaghetti fuck pile of undocumented wild west visual basic bullshit. It does this, presumably, via a set of parameters passed as plaintext in a url. I know this because I found the singleton that declares this. Helpfully, Mr. Fuckass named the class "Default", so I only have around 30k instances being kicked back by my IDE when I search for it. The only reason I "need" to find this, is so that I can just change the button to an href pointing at my own MS for shipping, and I need to change the fifteen params being passed to just one - a customer ID, which should be stored in the session, and referenced by a cookie. Once that is done, I should be able to freely delete a couple of gigs worth of bullshit. Been stuck on this for three days now. God forbid we have a test environment or something.
I'm tired. Can't even get angry anymore really. Can't even think of anything funny to say about it either, I just can't wait until this is done and I can go back to sleep.3 -
Maybe in special dedication to @kiki.
I cut the unit tests down in LOC size by roughly 50 - 60 % in most projects.
It's really easy once one sees unit tests not as a dunking pile of copy pasta wild west, but rather as a code base that needs architecture and design.
Some extensions, some annotations, some good old helper classes.
Pooooof.
Why I did this? ...
Because it's fucking annoying when you read a PR with tests and need a fucking diff tool to spot the difference between two tests cause they're 80 % the same.
Yeah. Thx for giving me brain cramps, motherducker.
I'm not an expert in unit tests, but if all test codebases look like the "usual stuff" in our projects...
It's no wonder bugs exist...10 -
After an hour long discussion via call with someone and after over a year of working in web3. I can safely say the entire web3 is actually a sham. Im too tired and exhausted from scams and frauds to explain why. It is just a bunch of overhyped artificially inflated bullshit to lure you into the ponzi scheme. I am almost 100% sure with proof how this is all a lie. Web3 is equivalent to government and political corruption - just a bunch of EXTREMELY WEALTHY people ripping poor and middle class off by defrauding them through crypto and nfts to make the rich richer. Its truly disgusting. There is no way in HELL that you can work in this space and expect to succeed if you are not already wealthy. People apparently spend between $10,000 up to $500,000 on a single project for marketing. They spend it so easily as if they earn that sum of money back by tomorrow. This is truly sickening. The reason why marketing costs so much is because it manipulates naive and newbies, lures them into the web3 world by creating an illusion of get rich quick schemes "hey buy this jpg for $2000 and you'll be able to sell it for $20,000 in a week!" Truly truly sickening. Web3 isnt even a wild west. Web3 is a fucking dystopian void where these fucktards are like animals fighting each other who's gonna defraud a bigger chunk of thousands and millions of dollars from each other. Literal fucking shithole. I am so disappointed. I thought web3 technology was useful. Perhaps it is but people's greed has molded this technology into crime and frauds. Which is what it has become8

Coming from the wild west (ie. being freelance) to a fairly large organisation it's comforting to learn that they only have a *slightly* more organised work flow than I did when I was on my own.
It seems they're only human too, after all! 😃5 -
I've been sort of lost after New Year's...
Last few years, my main goal was just to learn stuff to pass technical interviews. I also did a lot of personal dev in C#... and played with the js, python, and when a bit of c++.
But this year I kinda feel sorta of "ah screw it". Interviews never work out, haven't for years, what's the point in even trying... I get paid enough though the work is sort boring and team sort of feels like the Wild West, no rules, code reviews, processes...
But ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Feels like coding has lost its place at the top now. The future is all cloud, machine learning, big data/real time analytics but feels like these are out of reach for just 1 guy...
And well doesn't seem like anyone is going to give me a job because I'm not a good fit or have enough experience in these areas...
Sorta lost now but guess this is what a sudden thought leads to...
Oh and maybe just with tech in general. It feels this year I'm just not as interested as I was before... Spent a lot of time binge watching movies and stuff instead....4 -
The switch from “Wild West” to ITIL uncovered so much bull crap. 20% of the people where doing 80% of the work. And then people were keeping some things alive by shear will, once Changes and Service Requests were required, it was shown how awful the environment truly was and how few people in the company knew how anything worked.

Job descriptions are only accurate for about a few months after that its the wild west whatever they want you to do.5

The Javascript build/bundling eco system is killing me every time I try to get into it.
Me: oh vite, a nice and fast bundle that supports hmr
Me: works like a charm
Well until I discovered that exporting a self contained bundle with Inlined dependencies is not a thing and you have to pray that your framework provides such plugins
The world of js/jsx/tsx bundling, building, tree shaking, transpiling, Inlining, transforming is such a wild west and that on top of an already very unstable layer of different frameworks that work so fundamentally different that you cannot apply a single principle to even 2 of then (from a building/ssr/bundling perspective)

I am SOOO fucking sick of being asked if our website and gaming servers are going to be GDPR compliant. All these game owners in a panic changing everything they do just to conform to this law.
Fuck GDPR. In all reality COME AT ME BITCH. The EU wants to grow a pair of balls and act like the world internet police? Bring it the FUCK on. You can't even stop pirating in your own country, so how the FUCK are you going to regulate and enforce this law on HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of servers, when your punk ass government can't even shutdown a single torrenting website.
Give me a fucking break, and shame on you pussies for allowing it. All you people running around scared acting like your private gaming servers are important. I give a shit less how much work you put into your server. I have put more work than most anyone else, but you don't see me trying to act self important as if my gaming server is some fortune 500 company.
Your server isn't important and neither are you. The government doesn't give a shit about your server so can we all just stop acting like this fucking matters. NO ONE FUCKING CARES ABOUT YOUR SERVER.
NO ONE is going to come and sue you for not complying. GDPR is for business, and anyone that wants to argue no look it says right here it applies to all is a fucking MORON. Do you idiots stop and think or do you just believe everything typed out on paper.
THEY CANT ENFORCE THIS ON EVERYONE. They don't have the resources. So use your fucking heads and stop being so fucking scared of a law that has no resources to stop you. THEY CAN"T DO ANYTHING. EU and whoever made their polices, I DARE them to try and touch my server, I WANT them to start something with me, just so I can show the rest of the world why the Internet is still the wild west and why they have no power over me.
You think pirate bay is the only one who knows how to hide their server? You think pirate bay is the only one who keeps backups of their server to be able to re release in an instant somewhere else in the world? Bitch get real this is the internet, a place where a 5 year old can buy hand grenades from the Red Silk Road, and you wanna talk to me about your privacy? Go fuck yourself.
It's not my problem some douche bag went onto a site that used his personal information in the wrong manner. So how about you do what everyone else does and browse ANONYMOUSLY. But no it would be to easy for governments to make their own citizens responsible. Instead they have to hold all of YOUR hands, because you people are to stupid to protect yourself.
Wake the fuck up world, and stop being a bunch of whining little brats who cry for the government to bubble wrap your world so you can live safer. Natural selection is long overdue for a lot of morons still breathing air.18 -
My app is finally on the Apple App Store.
The rant: how bloody difficult was it to get on there?! They scrutinise EVERYTHING. My promo copy, my screengrabs and also it seems that there is code that works on iPhone that doesn’t work on iPad.
I thought it was designed to be the same for ease of development? However I found a function that works perfectly well on iPhone but breaks iPad.
Anyway I guess in the long run this keeps the App Store’s quality level high and it isn’t the Wild West like the google play store. However it’s still pretty annoying. I can see why devs get angry about Apple’s process.2 -
switching from C# / managed C++ to pure C++ in the new project feels like being relocated to an outpost in the wild west.
now i have to think about so many things the C# compiler would just have cared for, and all this hassle before i can actually address the problems that i want to solve. already ran into some weird memory overflows. i'm actually happy to learn something new, but it still feels really inefficient.3 -
Typo3.
Especially when it comes to debugging third party (usually outsourced) plugins and implantations..
It's daz vile wild west over there, you never know where something is defined, but more often that not, some obscure TypoScript file.
Never have i been so grateful for xdebug & grep / awk combined with regular expressions.. -
Been going through the family stash of old Wild West type novels (you know, cowboys and cattle drives and six shooters and gunmen and rivalries and all), from authors like Louis L'Amour, JT Edson, and Oliver Strange. Because Texas appears so frequently in these books, in my mind's eye the protagonist often looks suspiciously like AleCx04's avatar with a hat and gun rig. And horse, of course. And speaks like McCree from Overwatch.

Long-Term Protection
In addition to cleaning, our soft washing solutions also kill bacteria, mold, and algae, reducing the chances of future buildup. This means your storefront will stay cleaner for longer, providing more value for your investment.
Improved Customer Experience
A clean, well-maintained storefront makes a positive first impression on customers. It shows that you care about the appearance of your business and fosters trust and professionalism, which can encourage more foot traffic and potential sales.

The internet can feel like the wild west, full of danger and hidden traps, and I learned that lesson the hard way when I lost access to my Bitcoin wallet thanks to some sneaky malware. In the fast-paced world of crypto trading, trust is everything, and I learned that the hard way, Just a few months ago, I invested in what I believed was a legitimate crypto trading platform. The website was sleek, the support team responsive, and the profits seemed real. Lured by the promise of high returns, I deposited $150,000 worth of Ethereum into the platform. For a while, everything appeared normal. My dashboard showed growing profits then came the day I tried to withdraw a significant portion of my Ethereum. The platform froze. Customer service vanished. Emails bounced back. That’s when it hit me I had been scammed, after the initial shock wore off, I began researching recovery options. That’s when I came across Dexdert Net Pro, a digital asset recovery service with a growing reputation for reclaiming lost and stolen crypto. Skeptical but desperate, I reached out to them. From the very first consultation, Dexdert Net Pro handled my case with professionalism and urgency. They explained that recovery wouldn’t be easy, but not impossible. They deployed a forensic team specializing in blockchain analysis, and soon they began tracing the path of my stolen Ethereum across wallets, mixers, and shell accounts, Over the next few weeks, I received regular updates, transaction maps, exchange analysis, and ultimately a breakthrough. Dexdert Net Pro had not only identified the scammers’ cold wallets but also located a laundering process they were using to offload stolen assets. Dexdert Net Recovery successfully froze the assets. Shortly after, they recovered my $150,000 worth of Ethereum and securely transferred it back to my personal cold wallet. I couldn’t believe it. In an industry full of empty promises and heartache, Dexdert Net Pro delivered real results. They turned what felt like a devastating loss into a story of redemption. Today, I’m back in crypto but much wiser. If you’ve been scammed, don’t lose hope. Dexdert Net Pro Recovery proved that even in the wild west of crypto, justice is possible.

It started with a leap of faith—one that nearly cost me everything, last month I stumbled across an investment platform promising “guaranteed high returns” on cryptocurrency holdings. Skeptical but tempted, I poured my entire Bitcoin wallet—worth $190,000 in USDT—into their “elite portfolio,” convinced I was on the brink of financial freedom then, disaster struck, The platform’s interface suddenly went dark. Phone numbers disconnected. Emails bounced back. Panic set in as I realized I’d been scammed. My savings, tied up in a digital currency I couldn’t access, vanished into the ether. For weeks, I spiraled: filing police reports, pleading with blockchain support teams, and scouring online forums for answers. Most responses were bleak. “Crypto scams are irreversible,” But I refused to surrender, During a late-night Google deep dive, I discovered "Dexdert Net Recovery" a cybersecurity firm specializing in crypto asset retrieval. Their website testimonials detailed eerily similar stories, with claims of recovering funds even from “untraceable” scams. Desperation outweighed doubt. I submitted a case file, attaching transaction records, wallet addresses, and every shred of evidence I had.
Within hours, Dexdert Net Pro Recovery responded calmly but urgently: “The longer we wait, the harder recovery becomes. Let’s move.” Dexdert’s team launched a forensic investigation, tracing my USDT through a labyrinth of dummy wallets and offshore exchanges. They explained how the scammers used “chain-hopping” to obscure the trail, bouncing funds across multiple blockchains. But Dexdert’s tools were sharper, Over two weeks, Their experts updated me daily, Dexdert Net Recovery forced the scam platform’s hosting provider to freeze the wallet. Within 48 hours, my $190,000 USDT streamed back into my secure wallet. The relief was visceral—a physical weight lifted off my chest, Today, my Bitcoin sits in a cold wallet, guarded by layers of encryption. I share my story not just as a cautionary tale, but as proof that even in the Wild West of crypto, hope—and the right team—can rewrite endings.
Thanks to Dexdert’s Net Recovery, I reclaimed more than just money—I reclaimed trust in the system.

RECOVER FUNDS FROM CRYPTO SCAM//CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN
The bitter irony of decentralized finance struck hard: the very features that made cryptocurrency appealing anonymity, irreversible transactions now made my loss feel permanent. The moment I realized my digital wallet had been compromised, a cold wave of dread washed over me. $25,000 in bitcoin, gone. I scoured forums, filled out police reports, and resigned myself to the grim statistics of crypto theft. Then I discovered CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN, and everything changed. Unlike the shadowy "recovery experts" populating dark web forums, CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN projected immediate professionalism. Their website detailed a rigorous forensic process, utilizing advanced blockchain analysis tools and cyber investigation techniques akin to those employed by law enforcement agencies. Still, I hesitated until learning they operated on a no recovery, no fee basis. The financial risk was entirely theirs, not mine. The recovery process unfolded with military precision. Within 72 hours of submitting my case details, their team had mapped the thief's digital footprint across multiple wallets. They explained each step in clear terms: how they identified exchange deposit points, collaborated with compliance teams at trading platforms, and strategically froze funds. By week three, the impossible happened. A triumphant email notified me that my full $25,000 had been recovered. What truly astonished me wasn't just their technical skill, but their human approach. At every step, my case manager provided updates with the urgency of someone who understood this wasn't just about money, it was about restoring faith in the crypto ecosystem. Where other firms hide behind jargon, CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN educated me, turning my victimhood into empowerment. Today, my bitcoin sits securely in a new wallet, protected by layers of safeguards they recommended. To anyone staring at a zero balance where their life savings once lived: this is not the end. CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN doesn't just retrieve digital assets, they restore hope. Their existence proves that even in the Wild West of blockchain, justice still wears a white hat. If you find yourself in a similar situation, don’t lose hope. Take action, secure your assets, and consider reaching out to CRANIX ETHICAL SOLUTIONS HAVEN. You deserve a chance at redemption.

Lost Your Crypto Here’s How to Get It Back
Digital asset recovery is a hot topic for anyone who's lost their precious cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. Imagine waking up to find your digital wallet empty or even worse having someone else scam you. It is a gut punch but there are steps you can take to fight back and possibly reclaim what is yours. The world of crypto can feel like the Wild West yet recovery is not a lost cause if you know where to turn. Victims of BTC loss have a few solid avenues to explore and with the right moves you might just turn despair into hope.
First off don't panic. Time is key so start by gathering every scrap of evidence you have. Think transaction IDs, wallet addresses and any messages tied to the loss. This info is your ammo. Next, you should also notify your crypto exchange or wallet provider. Some platforms have tools or support to freeze suspicious activity if you act fast.
