Devs, if you're developing an app that's targeted to the country Georgia, you better make absolutely sure it doesn't have in-app purchases. For some reason, Google Play Store blocks those apps for Georgia. Even the free apps.7

After continuously trying to approve my Unity app on app store. I was finally able to do it in just 6 months. Thanks to the 'robust and fast' process of Apple.

So I'm going to get married next june. I made an app for the guests where they have all information available, can send music wishes and can share images of the wedding with other guests.
Here is my story on publishing it in the App Store:
Me: "Hey Apple, I made a small app for my wedding. Mind putting it in your store?"
Apple: "Yeah, whatever" *publishes it*
One month later:
Me: "I made really small changes, please take this update."
Apple: "Ha no, its not interessting for enough people." *rejects it*
I panic, because the app is mentiont in the invites to the wedding which are already printed.
So one day later:
Me: "Ok ok, I added a button in the intro where people can send me a mail if they are interested in using the same app for their wedding."
Apple: "That changes everything! We will accept the update."
I'm happy, that they accepted it in the end, but really?!? There are so many shit apps in the store, why do you reject any not-fart app, because it is not interesting enough??? And why the fuck do you accept it in the first place?15 -

I created a random website a month ago (a project which took me about 2-3 weeks)... made for developers.
But unfortunately I didn't find anyone interested, just a few users that used it once (ok, I spent nothing for marketing and posted it only on my Twitter and on Product Hunt).

Just got my Christmas present from Shopify:
You have 45 days to integrate with our new Billing API or lose your app on our app store.
Because I just LOVE dropping everything to deal with yet another mandatory Shopify change. Have you guys not heard of backwards compatibility?
My coworker just spent *weeks* getting our app approved, including submitting an obscene amount of information and multiple live reviews and now they're threatening to remove our listing from their app store if we don't adopt their new API by the end of January, requiring a complete re-submission and review to get it back on.
This is apparently a completely normal way to do business to Shopify.4 -

So they go BUY a BRAND NEW MacBook Pro just for xcode because they can’t figure out provisioning files. Project has been ready for submission to the App Store for over a month...5

Who else agrees that the play store should have a section which tells if an app needs a mandatory login to use it ? Like why the hell does a simple offline planner todo app need you to sign-up if you don't wanna use cloud backup. Jeez the user just trusted you by spending valuable time and bandwidth downloading your app. You owe it to him to show him some features of the app before shoving a sign up in his face. As an app developer myself I really think that this kind of behaviour turns off more users than anything else.2

I'm sorry, but the Apple App Store review team sometimes doesn't have the slightest clue what they're doing. Some things they usually reject me for, I can literally name 100 apps that violate that same thing, that are ON the App Store.
But the one that always gets me the most, is they will reject your app for not having extremely strict blocking/reporting features in your app (if it involves user-generated content). Okay, I get this, so I implement it. But they reject my app without even looking for them.
It's a CHAT app, so I put the block button INSIDE the chat conversation (right? normal UX? am I crazy?), and they reject it because they couldn't find the block button on the first screen (a screen that didn't even have chats, they screenshotted the SIGN UP screen LOL).
What a joke. Normally I wouldn't care but this update that I'm trying to get approved is essential and fixes some important crashes that have been happening to 13% of active users.3 -
Hopefully seeing the app that I've been working on for months officially released and on both the App store and google play store.
I say this because I've been waiting months and months for my boss and some other people at this company to be done with the privacy policy + terms of use for the app (which is needed due to how the app works) and I want to resign soon due to minimum wage + 2 hour commute twice daily + want a proper development culture (get treated as the IT guy at work) -

When you notice in the app store an app that does pretty much what yours does but was created after yours...
It has 1 million downloads (and it's featured by the app store) where as yours has only 500 😤😭😞😟23 -
So this bloody hilarious, I submit my PWA to windows store, mainly for shits and giggles, see how the whole thing works and all that.
App gets approved, I go in and run another submission to upload a few extra screenshots, at this point they block it as I do not have a privacy policy, but accept user authentication, which is not the case, so after a few days of back and forth I ask them to attach a screenshot, so turns out I need a privacy policy as when the users click on the map link which opens Google Maps in a NEW window, has a sing in button.
According to them, this is 'Opening within my application" and I am apparently able to access user details via google own sign in link, not SSO.
So as a joke, after some frustration I wrote up a privacy policy, what is an even bigger joke is that they accepted it…
This exists solely for the benefit of Microsoft who are having trouble comprehending the fact that RTMS Events does NOT have Authentication.
Microsoft believes that as the application uses Google Maps, and when Google Maps opens a “Sign In” button appears, that I am able to access your personal information.
As any reasonable person will understand, that is not the case, logging into Google Maps/Google for the benefit of using Google Maps in NO WAY gives anyone else access to your personal information.
So to be clear, I do not have any interest or access of any kind to your personal information, should you have any concerns about your privacy, remember, that the “Sign In” button is for Google, not RTMS, take up any issues with them, I am pretty sure they have a REAL and actually NECESSARY privacy policy.

This is a nice community and this app is a great too. No ads or promotions are also there. So how does app manage financially ,i know there is a swag store but is that enough .As community gets larger, more resources are needed to keep everyone happy ryt ? more servers etc..

In today’s episode of hybrid/cross platform tools are shit:
Electron 6 and 7 use private API’s on Mac OS, violating apple App Store rules, and apps now can’t be submitted.
The responses also say that continued attempts to try to hide private api usage may result in developer accounts being terminated.
So by using electron, you may get your Apple developer account closed down permanently .... rightly so for picking electron in my mind

Most times I've my phone's location switched off. Every time I open some random app, which doesn't require any location service, a toast pops up saying location unavailable. This is simply bonkers.3

My friend developed an app called "sendanyfile - WhatsApp, messenger" which can be used to send file of any extension via WhatsApp. A week later WhatsApp reported the app saying that it contains the word 'WhatsApp' in the app's title and removed the app from play store. Then 2 weeks later this happens....

Our team really needs some workflow arrangement, and this time it was me who screwed up.
So we have to push an update to the Play Store and the App Store the Friday, the app is well tested on test environment then production environment, we got the ok so I uploaded a build, the app management team then continued the process of publishing..
During the weekend the app was approved and live to almost 500k user that can receive the update.
I got a phone call from the Project Manager at almost midnight, the time was really suspicious so I answered.
- Me: Hello.
- PM: Hi, sorry to call you now but the app is live and we have a problem.
- Me: what kind of problem? Let me check.
So I updated the app on my phone and opened it while I am on call.. I almost had heart attack!! WE PUBLISHED A VERSION POINTING TO THE TEST ENVIRONMENT. Holly shit
- Me: shit call the app management team NOW.
Eventually we removed the app from sale (unpublished it) and we submitted a new version immediately, once it was approved the next day we made the app available again (so for those who didn’t update yet, there will be no update to a faulted version, and no new users landing to a version with test data), I received one or two calls from friends telling me why the app is not on the store (our app is used nationally, so it’s really important).
Thank God there was no big show on twitter or other social media.. but it’s really a good lesson to learn.

i submitted my first app to the app store yesterday. i built it with flutter, and it's already on the play store.
for some reason - i probably created the app wrong - the app store connect/portal needed screenshots of my app running on an ipad pro. now i don't have an ipad pro, and i can't use an emulator because i don't have a mac for that matter (i have been using codemagic.io for builds). i called friends - they don't have any ipads.
what did i do?
i turned my phone sideways and scaled it to the ipad pro resolution.
it is currently "in review"

Last week I submitted an update containing some minor fixes - rejected?!
Checked the reason: Apple has a problem with the app icon (which did not change at all) showing a stylized iPhone.
Right now I'm thinking about solving this by adding a Samsung logo to the icon though..3 -

In short, it's about Apple's weird legal practices when it comes to Apple Developer accounts.
tl;dr
- Apple has "obvious" security reasons that requires a copy of a photo id, and you aren't allowed to conceal sensitive information
- Apple's favorite form of communication is fax and snail mail
- Apple needs multiple signatures and court documents to just change your account name. -

Dear theme designers, unless you are designing an app specifically with OLED in mind... Do not use black as a main background colour.
It just looks horrible IMO, key example on good dark theme is the windows store and a example of horrible dark theming is the settings app.

I hate developing for iOS. So many certificates here and there for simple things. And to top it all off, sometimes, you get people reviewing your app that say you can't upload to the App Store for stupid reasons. Does anyone feel the same way?10

Its been a month now since I launched my first app on Play Store.
It has now got 2000 downloads with about 600 active installs. I also got some downloads on the paid version of the app (which is basically a donate version of the app).
I know there is always a room for improvement, but still, how am I doing?

Those users who'll post reviews for your app on the store in their native Indonesian, German, Arabic or whatever languages automatically assuming that you're a polyglot and you can understand everything. Why not just use English?5

I'm having a hard time remembering everything that I have learnt, so I decided to build an app where I can store whatever I learnt and search for them later easily. That's before I realized the app that I halfway built has a name; it's called "Personal Knowledge Manager", and there are already tons of apps like that, one of them is "exactly" how I imagined my app would be if I finish building it.

My app is finally on the Apple App Store.
The rant: how bloody difficult was it to get on there?! They scrutinise EVERYTHING. My promo copy, my screengrabs and also it seems that there is code that works on iPhone that doesn’t work on iPad.
I thought it was designed to be the same for ease of development? However I found a function that works perfectly well on iPhone but breaks iPad.
Anyway I guess in the long run this keeps the App Store’s quality level high and it isn’t the Wild West like the google play store. However it’s still pretty annoying. I can see why devs get angry about Apple’s process.2 -
Can someone here tell me, Why the fuck is the Inbox app in the Apple App store around 250MB, while the same app is around 7MB on Google Play? Why? Why?

When you add a feature to your app, test quickly and see the new feature works, so publish to play store, only to discover you have broken core functionality 😭.
This just happened to me, I discovered it not log after the update and had to rush to fix it after discovering the play store has no "roll-back" feature ☹️.3 -

Fuck Apple’s auto renewal garbage. Purchased an app a year ago that I haven’t used in months, auto renewal was enabled by default and I got charged with no warning or notification. So fucking scammy and pathetic. Every subscription service I’ve used in the past would at least warn me ahead of time when my subscription was about to expire and that I would be charged, even when I’ve explicitly enabled auto-renewal. Not Apple though, such a garbage piece of shit company.2

Installed Ubunut 20 on my laptop (Thinkpad). It cannot open the App Store (with A letter on it). Imagine building a system, marking it as stable (long-term-support) and shipping it in such state that it is unable to launch the default (pre-installed!) app-store. This is Linux for you.
Updated the system; still cannot start the freaking appstore.7 -

my boss doesn't believe in AGILE-SCRUM, hence android and back end is always out of sync and I always end up having to rewrite the code in order make it compatible with the back end, even though i have to post a new binary to the app store and play store not to mention get the users to actually update the damn app. How do I get my boss to adapt SCRUM?3

Ok so another short rant about project I ranted before. We are developing Android and iOS social app for around 6 months, apps should have been in store during September . Turns out sometimes during August Apple decided that all apps of appstore that communicate with server have to implement ipv6 also Amazon had support ipv6 on its old ec-classic instances but not on new ec-vpc instances. I have worked until middle of the night trying to find work around for this but at the end we need to find another host that supports ipv65

Some advice would be greatly appreciated: I have an app on the play store that currently is free with ads, and an in app purchase to remove the ads. Is there a better way of trying to get people donating or should I go overboard with the ads (something I am very hesistant to do)

So, if your client built their site so that it depended on this app for a big requirement in their online store fulfillment, you now have to hope that there's another app that could match its capabilities. Or, you have to spend more budget to develop your own so you have 100% control over it. -

It was a hard time, but it was very interessting and I never thought that I can code an app in this short time (I also had 2 weeks school in this 4-5 weeks).1 -

How to market an app?
So I am working on this very simple app. It has more or less one feature and also a quite limited target group. I make the app mostly for myself because I need this one function that it has but it would be nice to get a few bucks out of it (after I get the bugs out of it). I can't tell you what the app does (I realize I sound one of those "like facebook but..." people) but imagine those really simple apps like the many water level apps you can find in the app store but only musicians will ever need it.
So here is the question: should I limit functions and show adds and sell a pro version or only offer one version and always show adds? It will be a handy tool for those who really use it so maybe someone would consider buying it. On the other hand, the features are way too cheap to spend money on (who would buy a flashlight app?).

I have been working on idea similar to pastebin for mobile platform currently available on Android. The main concept is the easy share of Note in any language that is encrypted and the notes get deleted as soon as other party reads it. Plus you can encrypt it further by adding your own password and then share that password with others. This is useful when we are sharing our card details and other secret stuff with friends or family. The problem is that if you use mail or messaging stuff it gets stored in other party device and it can be exploited in future in case of theft or mobile loss. Here is my application for Android.

Working on Android app, using shared preferences (for a lay person, a key value store for settings)
Kept storing data in store and checked repeatedly from different parts of the app for the data. No clue where it went when storing (did store correctly)
Found out I was storing in a store labelled X _Y and was reading from store called XY.3 -

Why the fuck are native desktop applications so damn slow when it comes to displaying remote/web contents???
Steam, XBOX/Microsoft Store, Apple App Store/Music are just a few examples. Waiting 1-2 seconds to perform a search, list products, start video playback or just loading a few bytes of text.
Even Internet Explorer destroys them when it comes to loading and displaying data! I prefer every overloaded electron based app over these crutches.

Intuit documentation for using oauth 1.0 is pretty lackluster. It's very focused on making apps for their app store, not integrating with your own web app.
