When my mom asked what would I like to have - sweet corn or Avacado.
I said - Let's document all the possible approaches and setup some time to discuss pros and cons.2 -
that's quite accurate :) ofc there are exceptions (looking at you two naughty bois, metaspace and off-heap allocations!), but it's true for the most of it :)5

Two strings walk into a bar and sit down. The bartender says, “So what’ll it be?”
The first string says, “I think I’ll have a beer quag fulk boorg jdk^CjfdLk jk3s d#f67howe%^U r89nvy~~owmc63^Dz x.xvcu”
“Please excuse my friend,” the second string says. “He isn’t null-terminated.”

DevRant needs a save for later option... I see lots of long interesting posts, I start reading them and then something comes up (like a phone call or I need to do something). Then by the time I come back the post is gone, and I’m sad...3

My old job was almost perfect. I was a systems engineer for a research network. My duties were to configure, build, install, secure, manage and repair Linux hosts used for research on projects so advanced/cutting edge that I could spend days just listening to researchers explaining them and I honestly loved it! I understood less than half of the projects but just seeing how motivated and excited the researchers are made the job my favourite. Unfortunately I had to leave and get a job closer to my house because having a 2 hour (one way) commute for two years was killing me :-/ relocation wasn't an option and still isn't but I'd be lying to myself if I tried to say I wouldn't go back as soon as I could.2

Need Advice!
The Situation (cut a lot to keep it short...):
Made a Website for a Job-Agency (~7 non tek Employees) in Germany. Website is up and live a year already and runs really well. Over 1000 Applications came in (the DB), which is a lot.
Everybody is happy, I got constant approval every post launch meeting ever since...
Now: Realized, and I checked!....none of the applications ever reached the company!
And nobody ever complained.
I have full access to all mail accounts of that company, so I really know that they were never processed...
So what to do now?
Problem was a typo. So it's an easy fix.
-> Fix it, say nothing?
They will for sure wonder about the many new applications..
-> Fix it and tell?
It was my fault, so they will be for sure pissed
-> Sell this somehow?
-> don't fix, see how crazy it can get?
Will they ever realize?
any thoughts?7 -

I’ve been told my rants are being missed, since I left my hellhole of a job. So here’s a filler until something major goes wrong.
Right so here’s what my life is like at the minute. I’m working remotely from home. So this morning, instead of spending 2 hours in traffic, I got up at a reasonable hour and brought the dog for a walk. I don’t know who these people think they are, fucking up my routine like this. The audacity of them thinking it’s no big deal really pisses me off.
I’m the only iOS developer in the company. Normally I get bombarded with “why not use react-native” or “RxSwift is the future” and other shitty tools. Last week I said “i’d like to do X this way”. Do you know what those absolute bastards said to me? You ready? Hope you are sitting down ... they said ... “ok, sounds good” .... the fucking c***s.
Oh oh and the big one, wait for this now. Fridays are demo days, last Friday I showed what I was working on. Afterwards the CEO comes along, stares me in the eyes and without a care in the world what his comments might do to my self-esteem the fucker says “wow great job”. He fucking makes me SICK!!!
Feels good to get all that off my chest. I’ve missed venting. At this rate, I’ll be back very soon!8
