I wanted to talk about the right job.
In my previous job I did not feel happy, the management was weird, the salary was low.
For a time I was thinking, I need to get better and do more and I will have a better salary and management will be more lenient towards me.
After a few years, I got an offer to join a much bigger company with a bigger salary and better benefits.
I joined them of course. And it turns out in some places you just do not fit in or the company just wants something that is not realistic and always will be unhappy with you.
In my current company, I have never felt better working, the team is awesome and tasks are challenging but doable, and they appreciate my skills and speed of work.
TL;DR:
If you do not feel good in your company, leave for some other company, most likely it's not you, but its the job that sucks.2 -
Lack of communication, well the communication is there via instant messaging and some video calls, but it's much slower than usual.
And the lack of free coffee of course. -
Sadly to say, but devrant is slowly moving away from dev part of its name, even rant part.
More I see posts about this tech sucks vs that tech sucks. That being annoying, would be fine, not for me, but fine.
The worse part are the memes. Repost memes, not funny, though, maybe funny to some, still no effort reposts.
Even worse are posts that have nothing to do with dev. Like recent post about soldiers and gay people (maybe you saw it). Why the hell post it here?
Going down are the ++ beggers, sadly I see even more of them.
Yes I understand I can just leave this platform.
I just wanted to express these mixed feelings I have been getting for my once favorite place to read about other devs experience.16 -
Just had a company meeting. Basicly the company blamed all devs that they are losing money. Is it normal? It's my first workplace so I simply don't know. It felt bad, they low key threatened to firing lowest performing people. And said they will look at everyone's performance individually and eveluate if they are earning money from each person.7

Open street maps, I know it isn't quite what was asked, but it requires connection to be used and it sends maps chunks as images.4

How long should /does it take to get a promotion or a rase?
I am working for 1.5 years and currently on minimum wage still.6 -
Just watched a video called "object oriented programming is bad" on youtube. Saying that we all should use functional programming only. Your thoughts?18

Something weird is happening at my company. Me and my colleague were in a team building a web application (October CMS and angular 8). I just returned from vacation and was absent for the first 2 weeks of dev. Some days in management announced that the project is "on hold", I guess something to do with paperwork, but the dev will continue. I got to work in the project only for 2 days and was shifted (with a colleague) to work on regression tests for some app I have never seen. A week or more has passed and still I have no VPN access to the app. (the app is hosted by some other company) I am bored of doing nothing. I have experienced a pattern of shifting between projects a lot. Still have not been in one from start till the very end. It is annoying. I feel that there is a lack of communication here.

I use PhpStorm. I often open files by their name (ctrl+shift+n). I have a 2 monitor setup at work. On 1 I have chrome open, the other PhpStorm. I end up opening incognito mode on chrome about 10 times a day.3

Docker is building my scripts to slow. On windows script building is flying, but on Docker(which runs Linux) is slow as hell.7

4th year of technical school I though I was not gonna continue programming in university. Got a dev job after graduating and started uni. 2 years after I am pretty sure I am going to be a dev.

I suck at making estimates on my tasks. I recently estimated a task for 2 weaks but finished it in 12 hours...2
