It really messes with me knowing that memes reposted from reddit or other shitty dev pages are the ones getting 300++'s (now it's 500, but still) while original rants barely get 100 (not necessarily mine, just rants in general).
It's like, come on all they're doing is copying stuff and posting it here...

Guys? Literally is not meant to give emphasis to a word, it's meant to explain how it absolutely happened.

You can't go around and say stuff like "I literally can't" or "I'm literally starving", you're just not.

So my girlfriend (non techie) just saw my rant about how I'd give her a baby if she knew how to close vim in a proper way (she saw me on devRant, asked me to show it and read my rants) and so I showed her vim so she'd get the joke.

I than told her, how it worked and such so she'd see how it's not a regular text editor and told her to try and quit it, and to my amazement, she did!

Guess she's a keeper :')

Hey there, I've never really done anything like this but I'm in the second year of college.
I really want to go into the security area, not completely sure but pretty inclined to pentesting.

The question is, what, in your opinion, do you think is a good starting point so I'm pretty much ready to start working when I finish my 5 year course? My college doesn't have any or many security classes, so I'll have to do it all by myself.

Right now I know java, C and html, css and Javascript, which I'm learning by myself.

My girlfriend always wanted to have kids while I don't want any, when she does eventually talk about having kids I'll make her this deal "I'll give you a kid if you can close this vim window with out googling how to do it"

Why isn't physics an optional class in my computer science degree?

I mean, why would they assume I will need more physics in my life? I had physics until my senior year in school, we're pretty much learning the same thing! The only purpose I see in this crappy class is to lower my average, I will never need to know how to measure forces, sound waves or magnetic fields.

I know some people will need some of this in the future but it's a very small portion I bet.

I've always hated physics and to make matters worse I need to go to exam (if we fail the class by tests we need to go to exam) and I've been studying ever since the semester is over when I could've been on vacation and studying stuff that really matters, like how to make gui's and playing more with Linux and C. But no, I have a shitty exam in the 13th (Friday) and because of it I only have 1.5 weeks until classes start.

I just hate physics so God damn much...

I hate it when people post pictures they found online here and instead of trying to actually write something decent, they instead write the exact same quote/description that's in the image, it makes this look like fucking 9gag.

If you're going to post something that's not yours, at least try to come up with a decent message otherwise it'll just look like you're hungry for ++ and don't have the imagination to come up with a decent post.

So just finished my last algorithms and data structures class frequency, feeling pretty confident about the grade, today it'll be all weed, pizza and sex. Life is good :')

I read the other day here about people not reading the error messages shown by the IDE and thought "there can't be people this dumb..."

Well, today I was helping a friend out with his java project and he was trying to figure out an error for at least 10 min so I told him, read the error message, he goes like nah, that won't help, I kept repeating it till he did it and guess what? The explanation was there and helped him figure out the problem.
His excuse? He didn't have the patience to read the message, it was 2 lines long...

How can you be so stupid to the point where your first thought isn't checking out the damn message the IDE gives you? It's there for a fucking reason.

When you spend 3 hours looking at your project's code and debugging it to find out you forgot to add a '!' to your if condition.... Brilliant
