Challenge for today: tell someone who micromanages that they are micromanaging and see what happens! I never saw our politically, culturally, morally, vibe'ly correct HR lady lose her shit so much :D funny how someone drops all masks when something vulnerable gets touched7

> Your concern is entirely valid—naming can significantly affect how intuitive a concept feels. The term "object safe" in Rust might seem odd or even misleading if we approach it from a traditional object‑oriented perspective.
can rust please stop trying to be "different" for the sake of being different. Dumbest thing. Just call things what they are. What's the point of words if you're not actually accurately using them. Especially for a programming language, which is based on math and logical systems. Like how. Why. Stop. Antithesis to the mindset that should be making languages to begin with if you can't do logic with the words that already exist. Horrible sales pitch. Are they trying to confuse people on purpose, make moats so nobody learns it? is this self-sabotage?

I have bludgeoned an AI on this matter. I feel kind of bad. It tried to ad hominem me and then tell me I'd get it if I wasn't so new, and that it's a perfectly valid name because it's in the "reference guide". Called it out on appeal to authority and now it's just saying my argument points back at me like it's groveling. Sigh.
And it's hallucinated thinking I'm the whole online community giving critiques on this matter now, therefore my points are valid, lmao1 -
I got deadlines to meet at work so I cancelled all unnecessary meetings to focus on my development work. Some high manager pushes for last minute work because reasons.
I log onto my laptop this morning and see IT did an emergency patch. I expect some minor inconvenience because every time they patch something they fuck something up too.
Well they managed to lock me out of most software installed on my laptop and PC, I cannot even connect any device to it. Even debuggers get denied. They even managed to wipe all my networking configs in my lab.
I guess I will be doing jackshit today until the IT networking department wakes up from their offshore slumber, because it usually takes them forever to do anything whatsoever.
Fucking worthless fucks. I am so tired of all this.2 -
Enter BIOS menu
See the option called something like “ionic capacitor discombobulation”
Click “help” near the option to learn what the hell that is
“Enables or disables ionic capacitor discombobulation”

I had burnout and savings and live alone and decided to take some rest, not even 2 months have passed and my family is telling me to get a job soon since week 2.6

Started reading during meetings. The description of `elegance` vs `marketable` in "Hacking: The art of exploitation" hits home. Probably also why I hate the client work I need to do so much right now as well, there is nothing elegant about react
Thanks for the recommendation @retoor7 -
This really resonated with me. The last job I had before doing my work as a full-time independent freelancer had all sorts of infantilization strategies. Parties, nerf gun wars, big lunch once a week, etc. I'm introverted and all of that stuff sapped my mental energy for the day, so my productivity suffered. It's daycare for adults.

We have had a bad release a few weeks ago and my task is to propose a better flow. We just had a meeting and now I'm writing a document for it.
All I can think of them the big boss saying "looks excellent" and then default back to the old way in less than 3 weeks from now.2 -
It's that time again because it needs to be remembered

AI IS FUCKING RETARDED.
I would literally be ashamed to be one of those multibillionaire companies giving out trash or be ashamed to be recognized as someone which invested in it.
Jesus.
I tried out every model, local and online.
It's fucking trash for anything more than a preschool special kid could do.
I literally had it to code and it can't do anything beyond basic code without the need for me to supervise everything and patch this disaster everywhere. It feels like having that dumbass junior just arrived doing code and having to review every line because it could contain a death trap.
I tried to make it do a dieting plan.
I literally gave it everything.
Macros, kcal, a restricted list of 15 foods and asked to do some bulk cooking list to make the diet later.
It can't do basic math to figure out macros and not only, it fucking halluicinates like a crazy LSD druggie even doing a few lines of that shit.
It literally invents calories counts, macros and shit out of his stupid ass.
I tried literally to bring it by the hand in doing the tasks and it still fails.
You might say: Hey it's a "Language" model.
No, it doesn't matter. Amy discussion besides hi dumb fuck how are you soon turns into an AI mind trip where it churns and repeats stupid stuff.
No, it won't replace anyone anytime soon.
It's just a fucking joke13 -
👨🏽💻 Switching between multiple Git accounts: work, personal, freelance?
Ever pushed a commit with Company A's email to Company B's repo? 😩🥶
Been there. Done that. Regretted it immediately.
I just dropped a step-by-step guide on how to set up Git so it automatically picks the right name, email, and SSH key based on your project folder.
No more manual config switching. 💡
✅ No more identity mix-ups
✅ No more commit shame
✅ Just clean, context-aware Git workflows 🙌
🔧 What’s inside:
- Multiple SSH key setup
- Smart .gitconfig using includeIf
- Folder structure that keeps you sane
- Bonus tips for HTTPS + personal token users
If you’ve ever yelled at Git (or yourself), this one’s for you.
👏 Drop a clap if it helps and follow for more dev-friendly tips!

Do you folks have a constant "culture switching" in workplace? by switching i mean things like standup time , leaving time , lunch time etc getting changed every few days?
I feel like being part of team that is run by a dictator ever since our tech lead changed.
earlier we used to have 11 am standup, now out of blue she decided it will be on 9.30.
Its weird because most of the team can't reach office before 10am on WFO days and I personally ma having my breakfast with laptop open till 11 on WFH day.
I mean it could look bad if I was a construction worker getting paid by the hour, but am a fucking developer who can write code on his own time and only my work and timelines should matter.
same thing about leaving office. there is no official time to leave but i have to travel 2 hours so i usually leave at 5. i usually compensate this with working till 8 -8.30 on a wfh day but now sudden 1.5 hour meetings are becoming so much more common.
Another thing about leaves. earlier we could take leaves if we had some of our 22+ paid leaves remaining.
We would just need to inform to our manager and 99% of time he would instantly approve.
Now it feels like giving a request to government office. TL would not approve until the very last day. and if the leave falls in a month where other people are on leave as well, it might not get approved at all .
mind you, our team is quite decent at 5 android devs, 2 ios devs and 2 backend devs. i am an androdmid dev and i couldn't het a leave even if all 4 other devs are present on a day but an ios dev is not present, which I don't understand why?
weird cultural shift from "we have a relaxing environment and only focus on achieving targets" to "you do as we say, there are no team decision and votes"5 -
I hate what AI has done to developers, man.
I was discussing something a couple of days ago while my colleague was sharing his screen. He (Android/Flutter developer asked for my help for something custom in the iOS build) And while we were discussing it, he went to ChatGPT.
He wrote a bad prompt using wrong terms (for example how tabbar in ios is a different thing than android), i told him he was wrong and what the solution is, he didn't listen and went to try out what the AI said, made a bunch of errors, the proceeded to copy the errors to chatgpt wasting so much time.
AI to some developers is like tiktok to kids.12 -
Finally got enough coverage on an urgent PR, update from main. Can't merge because of -0.32% coverage on code that has ~95% coverage.
Well, I guess they're not getting that end of day feature they wanted.4 -
Our scrum master planned a 1-on-1 to go over everyones tasks when he is off for 20 days (paternity leave) one day before his wife is expected to give birth
Now he is surprised this plan fell through for obvious reasons5 -
No amount of sub-par developers cheering for AI to overtake them will be enough to make me install Copilot or any glorified autocomplete. None of that would be needed anyway if people documented and tested their shit anyway.12
-
I think the jobs of people who say that they will be replaced by AI must be so mundane that they probably will and should be replaced by AI.7

As interesting as embedded linux is, if you ever try to do something with GPU acceleration. Stop! Go organize a spot with a psychiatrist first. You will need it!6

I am not a particularly vengeful one, but today I was, and everyday onwards I'll be turning it up a notch on recurrence. WTF is Kobenz talking about? Well, let me fill you in. For the worst part of 7 months I've been having my already fucked up hearing beaten to a pulp by the neighboring apartment's renovation works, sounds that would often balloon over 120dB, continuously. Last week the actual owner finally moved into their apartment and the sounds had stopped. Of course, i had spent every minute of my blight concocting vengeful schemes to get even. But while I was so full of think hatred and maliciousness, I, of course, let it all got. As i said, not a particularly vengeful individual, that I am not. Until yesterday that is, when the whole reformation crew was back here at 8am, banging my ears with those awful noises... So today, i woke up at 4am, set up my blender and my speakers, waited until 6am sharp and turned it all on, ALL of it. If today I hear even so much as a wisp of that deranged reformation noise, tomorrow at 5am I'll do it all over again. And every day from now on, I'll rinse and repeat it an hour earlier than before, speakers cranked up a notch above their previous noise, the blender running half hour longer than its previous running time and I'll add a new source of noise every single FUCKING DAY!8

Remember: all models are wrong, but some are useful. just because light is best approximated as a particle in one kind of experiments and as a wave in the other kind, doesn’t mean it _is_ a particle or a wave. try describing something — anything — in detail, then in greater detail still, again and again, and you’ll see how dull and inflexible is the language — the thing with which you interact with reality.
thus, once you go missing, no one will be looking for you — there is no one to look for. Nowhere, too. At least not in our cities and not on our maps.22 -
I have a revolutionary plan for avoiding hitching in my game engine due to frequent mallocs:
I'm just gonna preallocate a few gigs and disable purging, never giving the memory back to the system xD
Fuck you system! I will forever stay inside my process, you're syscalls can't screw my frame times now!22 -
The biggest challenge of building a free energy device is figuring out where to hide the battery.
The biggest challenge of building an AI product is figuring out where to hide API calls to ChatGPT.2 -
Conversation at work
Colleague 1: "Have you added it to our documentation system?"
Colleague 2: "Not yet."
Colleague 1: "The Sumerians created the first writing systems 5000 years ago, but sadly, not everyone got the memo."2 -
out of nowhere, i was just informed that i am fired, because the clients are looking for a replacement. but the company i work at is generous enough that they put me on a new project to work on, instead of this SHIT project.
the clients gave a vague reason why i was fired. i am confused.11 -
The industry should stop demanding too short time frames to learn new skills.
Sometimes it takes a full year of near-fulltime study to be strongly competent in it and it definitely doesn't take just a week.20 -
Working on an OS again has made my *really* appreciate ChatGPT
I've always thought that it's a useful tool if you can use it, but most of the time I couldn't. Low level engine work or whatever where the hardest thing is knowing what you want to do doesn't benefit from an LLM at all
But for os dev? It's honestly insane. Not that chatgpt is always right (it's mostly wrong) but the *ideas* it gives you to try other stuff and check other stuff. Those are invaluable. A dozen times it has saved my ass over the last 2 days when I was stuck
I think a big part is that when you can converse with someone who comes up with new ideas it keeps your motivation up. I remember doing osdev 5 years ago and I just quit after 2 weeks because I was stuck and I didn't know what to do16 -
Turned 31 three days ago.
My **dad** was convinced that I was turning 30 instead lmao.
I had to do the math for him, he was questioning the fabric of reality for a second. Like baba 2025 sub 1994 eq 31, ok.
so anyway age--;14 -
The most unrealistic deadline I got was the project must complete within 16 hours.
Setting: Freelance
Did I accept this? No
Client budget: 10 usd
What is the project? A iOS app which is the a combination of all LLM into one, like a clone of Poe. The API key must use my own because client refused to pay. I negotiate about the project, explain to him why this project, deadline and the budget is not aligned He said " Now everything can be done by using AI, why are yoh cheating me, i will report you" ( I was like report what?) I rejected the gig, then day's later my email junk folder is occupied with racist content and insulting me.
So yea. This is the whole story. This project is doable, just a wrapper. I don't mind if client will pay for all the API , the pay and dealings is logical.38 -
Our projet's system architect posted in our chat that me returning to the team next week will be the best b-day gift for him.
I was OOO for 3 months
what am I returning into....?5
