It was great to see Gitlab not only being transparent, but also being so empathetic towards the employee and not bashing them at all. Instead they said the more things you do the more mistakes you make. And the system/process should have contingency so that human mistakes have some tolerance margins.
That is a great workplace! -
Because everything should be a managed-service somewhere in the internet.

It's such a lovely day, sun is shining, think I'll sit outside with my laptop and a beer and continue working on personal project.
(...goes outside)
It's too bright, can't see shit, plus working on two screens is easier

Dear recruiters and so called "startups".
If you want to attract me by starting with the phrase: "Mobile lead role in Startup" and you go on like...
"We are a startup with offices in Shanghai, Hongkong, Vancouver, San Francisco, New York,... "
or
"We are a startup and also the 6th biggest phone network in the world... "
No thanks, enjoy your startup themed cubicles and fuck off!5 -
Had a release retro today.
We had the usual Trello board with columns for "what went well, what was bad, what can we improve" etc.
columns for the bad and the improvements had 10-20 cards each.
column for what went well was empty.... -
Fuck yeah!!! After five days of fiddeling round in assembly without any sort of tutorial finally, im there :)16

There is no shame in using google to program.
'Back in the day' we had phonebook sized books of documentation on our desks we would reference constantly.
Why?
No one is going to memorize a phone book sized book. Not to mention three or four of them.
Being a good dev is about creativity, not memorization.12 -
What the fuck student. Why in fuck would you submit a python assignment in word. So that all the formatting you know the stuff that tells python how to run the code all fucks up. How the fuck can I mark this.28

My boss wrote the password to access the office on his whiteboard, which you could see from outside of the building.3

I just got an email that a client changed their DNS zone files to point at a new server. Turns out that they haven't set the server up yet. Client is wondering why that domain's emails aren't working, and why their site is down. They didn't want to give me the Domain's portal login credentials until now, because they "could do it without [me]." Tomorrow morning should be fun.4

My first TrumpScript:
https://github.com/samshadwell/...
A million is 1000000
and one is, million over million;
our great country is, 1000010 minus million;
make immigrants, country times million;
For as long as, we have immigrants greater than one;:
I say immigrants
I say "That wall just got ten feet taller!"
And we have to make immigrants go back, fight immigrants over country;!
say it with me "We made America great again!!"
America is great.1 -
Headphones ON ears means DON'T disturb unless it's important.
Talking about the chance of rain is not f*ing important. Especially when it's the 10th effin time I'm interrupted by nonsense officetalk in one hour!6 -
Poll: do you think everyone, especially managers, should read The Phoenix Project?
My personal opinion: yes... They need to understand the horrors from unplanned work and how to prevent it... I'm getting really tired of checking up after people...1 -
A few months ago: "please lock down the app so clients can't upload new images once an order is in progress"
This morning: "why can't the client attach more images when they ask to revise an order?"2 -
Today in a meeting, a non-dev analyst who frequently uses SQL mentioned in passing that he uses Excel as a text editor for his SQL code. I don't know what he said after that because I wasn't able to get past the fact that Excel is his go to text editor.6
