It's the start of my career - I got an exciting internship offer. There is a lot of work though. I must say, devRant is helping a lot ;-)

Today I wanted to activate the gzip compression on the site of a customer before delivery.
Unfortunately the hosting service (the most popular in France) did not activate this module on its servers. Why in 2016, this module is not enabled by default !15 -
Why am I sad, depressed, demotivated, you ask?
Because I was asked to create-react-app with nodemailer, it worked well on heroku, YAYYY MEE, "
"NOTHING GOES WRONG IN DEPLOYMENT FUCK YEAH"
Little did I know that was a "demo" for the business people, My superior / manager/boss wants me to deploy on 1and1 service provider,
> Okay 1 and 1 service provider does provide Nodej, so it shouldn't be hard.
> Turns out it is a Windows hosting server IIS 10 without URL Rewrite.
> *INTERNAL SCREAMING*
I went up to him to talk about this issue and requested to let me talk to 1 and 1, and get this sorted
> But bro, if we cannot fix it, I think they also cannot fix, probably.
*INTERNAL SCREAMING AT PEAK*
I just want URL Rewrite installed on IIS10 so that I can move on to the next project.
A little background for this project
> No support from him during development.
> I personally used HD Images, because why not?
> Website seems slow because of HD Images, and now he complains about it.
You fucking (managers) want a website to be scalable and fast and yet you choose to focus on B U S I N E S S instead of support the real guy.
I'm fucking sick and tired, it took me 24 hours figure out the issue because there is nothing on 1 and 1 support/ forum/help center.
Another 24 hours to try and fix, yet no luck.
I'm gonna finally point the domain name to heroku. Fuck, I'm so fucking done6 -
Usually my workplace is pretty chill, but today something rantworthy happened!
During code review, I found this guy had styled each element inside his components using nth-child selectors. For instance, in a card the heading was styled by nth-child(1), the text was styled by nth-child(2) and so on... No use of actual fucking classnames.
When I pointed this out, he told me it was actually the better way of doing things because classnames increase the size of the HTML document!
He also claimed proudly that nth-child() is more efficient in performance (idk - anybody can confirm this?)
I'm the only "css guy" there so nobody could second my views. Posting it here so that I can show this to him tomorrow by demonstrating what opinion other css devs have on this and prove my concerns / convince him to change his code.7 -
Oh, this year on Christmas, I'm gonna roam around on devRant and ++ any rants I see stagnant at 19...

Got myself this on new year. For all my data. Hope it's a good decision!
Happy New Year everyone ^_^ -
What are webhooks anyway? From what I read, they are just a fancy way of talking about APIs and HTTP requests.6

I have to integrate Branch.io journeys to a React PWA. Just started reading the docs and got a basic idea.
Just confused about how shall I add the web SDK in the React way.
Also, any explanations, tips, things-I-should-beware about branch?
[that is, if anyone's happened to have heared of it] -
Sometimes the implementation of setting a pw is really wow... yesterday I create a new db in my 1and1 hosting package. I generate a strong pw with a length of 20 and try to set it. It took me 1h to find out that 1and1 only accept 9 signs and I ranted after that because nobody says that they will just cut the inserted pw and set it with no warning or hint that I maybe should chose a shorter one...2

Wanted to discuss about this AMP framework by Google. I have developed with it for my company and have been having mixed feelings about it.
On one end, it gives you the power of Google cache, declarative layout and all.
But still, it seems to be too restrictive and filled with bizarre rules that often could have been avoided if they just made guidelines for normal "web pages" to be better and not yet another framework to build "AMP pages".
One more (and probably the biggest) thing. AMP is Open Source... But can it be really considered Open if the biggest player in its development is a single corporation?4
