Some people take it personally when you don't like their distro

A guy living next to my house came to me and told me to install Linux on their computer. Being a Linux lover, I was happy to see him switch. I installed Elementary OS Loki, installed nicest theme and conky I had. After tons of other tweaks and customization, I gave it to him, motherfucker told me this is not Linux and what he wanted. He wanted Kali, don't know what the fuck he was going to do with it. This piece of shit wasted my time,

I am a full time linux lover, but I have to set up a windows pc for my parents, possibly win 7 on Intel NUC with atom processor.

The requirement is just ms office and similar applications.

Cult of Linux

Me and one teacher i got, both Linux enthusiasts, decided that we should create an open source community and spread the word to other students, teachers and stuff from the university about Linux and open source in general.

First meeting went well, we got quite an attendance, people seemed curious and willing to learn.

Second meeting is tomorrow, and we decided to show them some Linux distributions and DE.

Guess what, we can’t decide what to show them.
He is a pure Debian lover, i use both Debian and Arch.

He insisted on Mint since he didn’t want to scare them with Debian.
I said that we could show them Manjaro.

So what do we do?

So I have a pet peeve to talk about here, I'm excited for the Atari box as I have some inside information that is officially confirmed about it (unfortunately am not allowed to talk about it :-C) and I see people out there saying it is "an underpowered Linux steam machine)...

How the fuck are people coming to this conclusion when the specs, OS or anything technical about it haven't even been released yet?!

Why must people immediately assume that because it's not a standard windows PC it must be a piece of shit?

Boggles my mind that so many people can be so defensive and go on the offence without knowing anything.

Just so I can clarify, I'm a console gamer, Linux lover yet still develop for windows and the like so this isn't a biased rant and I know people will look at this, see the word Linux and go on the attack... So... Just... Chill?

When you arrive to work and remember you have to work with Windows and you are a linux lover.

Ok so there are a lot of things out there like #WhyIUseLinux, well as a Linux lover that is stuck using windows, I say we start a 'why I use windows' discussion.

For me, I'm stuck on windows simply because the game development engine I use is only on windows and mac and doesn't seem to play nicrly when run on a VM, if the software was released on Linux I would swap over in a heart beat!

Visual Studio, it was a pain in the butt installing it, it took 5 mints to open in a normal computer, debug would eat all my ram and without resharper is basically useless

- save your stuff and reinstall linux
- I don't have enough stockage to backup
- Then buy one and save, probably either OS is fcked up or you have some hdd problems

* Being a very experienced user: wait before reboot because this suckass os will probably fail to boot otherwise

* finally boot (feels like a miracle windows succeeds lol)
* still slow

* look at running process and install programs
* sees shits like camera recognition (vendor installed), candycrush
* occasionnaly get adds

FFS I am a dev, not a fucking trash lover
It is already pain to fix someone os, but windows is the cream of cream

It brings no ease of use for novice user
It is so insanely slow
It has stupid settings set up by default!!!!!!!! Who FFS wants candycrush and ads
The maj are so fcking hazardous. It is 2022 pretty much the same as 15y back then. Updates take fucking eternity. And needs reboot. and are not even finished!!!

I swear I am gonna stretch my ass and install linux and any fckin other toolsuite needed so they can use Micro$$ word, which is the only fucking usecase they need windows for in the first case anyway

About Linux distro.

I've been using Ubuntu for about two/three years now. I'm feel rather comfortable with Linux, but am not quite sure I'm at Arch level yet. What distro would you recommend for a mid-level Linux lover?

Was at an Angular talk at the Microsoft Center in Munich. The talkers bashed MS way to much. Even for a Linux lover like me.
