Visual fucking studio 2015 installation. MOTHERFUCKER !!!
OK new project will only work on VS2015. Need to download it. OK, go to MS website. Project works with community edition. Fucking great. Download the installer. Run the installer. MOTHERFUCKER DON'T OPEN THE FUCKING BROWSER TO THANK ME, YOU FUCKING FUCK. Ok...Wait to download the packages. One fucking eternity later download completes. FUCKING GREAT. Proceed to package installation. After two fucking hours installation progress bar stays the same. Google "vs 2015 installation stuck windows 7". MOTHERFUCKING BACKGROUND PROCESS IS FUCKING STUCK AND INSTALLATION DOES NOT CONTINUE. FUCK YOU. I'VE LOST TWO HOURS. OK, stop the process. Installation gets cancelled. Run the installer again. STOP THANKING ME YOU PIECE OF SHIT :@ OK, check again all downloaded packages. All good. Continue with installation. Installation completes. MOTHERFUCKER WHY YOU WANT TO RESTART THE WHOLE SYSTEM ? FUCK YOUR WINDOWS UPDATES. Ok, restart and be done with it. SSD to the rescue. Try to set up the project.
MOTHERFUCKER I DIDN'T INSTALL THE C++ PACKAGES. WTF WERE YOU DOING ALL THAT TIME? OK, run installer again and install C++ packages. I SWEAR TO GOD MICROSOFT, IF YOU THANK ME ONE MORE GODDAMN TIME, YOU'RE GETTING HATE MAIL.
Ok, installation completes. It's coding time. NO BITCH. VS2015 silently crashes after splash screen. :@@@ Google wtf is wrong again, turns out the C++ packages fuck shit up. Ok, pass some arguments to devenv.exe to reset. Restart VS. Ok, seems to be working now. Make a test project. Fucking awesome. Close VS and get the project files from perforce.
OK, files downloaded. Open VS again....
VS: "You're my bitch, you won't code today. Run from console and pass some shitty reset parameters"
YOU FUCKING FUCK. GO FUCK YOURSELF UP YOUR FUCKING ARSE. Ok, pass the parameters from console. Run again. Same "you're my bitch message" :@ OK, run with administrator rights, opens like charm. Run without admin rights again, "you're my bitch message". :@@@@@
Restart system, VS2015 finally opens project normally. Build project, 6934 errors.... :@ I'M DONE ! IM GOING BACK TO LINUX PROJECT. FUCK YOU ALL.18 -
Me: Visual Studio 2019 is acting weird. I should close it and re-open.
Me: *Clicks X in top right of instance window*
Dialog: Not enough memory to perform this operation.

Is it just me or the new dark theme on Windows 10 looks really bad?
Too much contrast and bad icons.
Why they didn't used the colors of the really nice looking Visual Studio?31 -
You know you're not going to have fun when you get assigned to a project which required to install this software...7
-
This one is about the SJWs in the software development community.
SJWs in general are a bunch of crying assholes.. software developers who are activists in online software dev sites are even worst.
Days ago, my visual studio 2019 RC notified me of a new version so I decided to look at the release notes. It was then when I read the most stupid fix ever included in a change log: "Visual Studio installer welcome image contains offensive element for Chinese."
FUUUUCK YOU.
Do you wanna know what that super offensive element in that image was? A GUY ON A BIKE WEARING A GREEN FUCKING HAT. Apparently in China this means someone's wife or sister is a prostitute.
I clicked on the link to read the actual feedback... and holy shit isn't that Chinese idiot an actual raging cunt.
In his stupid OP he is quoted saying: "this is serious".. FUCK YOU... your entire existence CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT be considered SERIOUS at all you whining dick sucking asshole.
And to make matters worst: a "fix" was released for this within days and immediately made available to everyone.
Motherfucking assholes in Microsoft took this guy's shit seriously and were scared shitless not to offend a snowflake abomination of an excuse of a human being.
Who gives a crap.. if you are offended and you publicly announce it, you are telling everyone that you are a pathetic child who can't control his feelings and wants everyone else to do it for him/her.
Well assholes at Microsoft and the Chinese offended by this shit, removing the green hat is offensive to the Irish people... would you re-instate it? NO YOU WON'T.
Why? well this is easy to answer: Irish people are white. White people, by standards of SJW cucks, can't be offended and reverse racism doesn't exist towards white people.
I hope that Chinese cunt, and if he has a girlfriend which I very much doubt since he had time to make that stupid feedback in the first place, to die slowly, bleeding from every hole and some newly created ones too, while watching his girlfriend get fucked by a high-ranking member of the ruling communist party of his Chinese gov and she is enjoying it and with a big smile on her face just so he can die feeling like the shit human being he is.
People on that feedback thread have urged MS to revert the change, asked MS to direct resources at fixing things that are as trivial as this but yet to be addressed... only MS didn't give a fuck.
Here's the link to the feedback thread for those interested: https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/...
If that asshole is here on devRant, here me out you raging cunt: I couldn't give a fuck less about you shit feelings or your stupid activism but I do care when idiots like you influence great software (incl. open source projects) just to feel good about yourself, to feel like you've accomplished something this week.
FUCK YOU all the way to hell.
For all other assholes (AKA SJWs) in the software community: software/computers don't give a fuck about your feelings. I'll beat you down to the depths of hell if you come at me with your progressive/equality/political correctness crap any day of the week... you just pick the day and I'm happy to oblige.49 -
Visual Studio 2017rc is so good that I'm beginning to hate 2015.
code preview, installation speed, startup without hiccups.
EVERYTHING IS SO FRIGGIN SMOOTH IMMA CRY.13 -
I have to update Visual Studio Installer before I can remove Visual Studio
Makes sense
Thank you Microsoft8 -
Boils my fucking blood.
How many billions of dollars is Microsoft worth again? And they still make me update my fucking updater?
Why is there even a separate program for updating??18 -
HAI
Just published LOLCODE language support for Visual Studio Code. One of the most satisfying moment of my life.
Link : https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/...
KTHXBYE8 -
So simple, but so brilliant!
I love the new code editor in Visual Studio 2017. 😁
(when you hover on a dotted line you see a preview of the part of code where it starts)6 -
When you opened Visual Studio and before programming you decided to download and install the latest update.. and it started to download 19 GB of updates...
Nice! I will be able to do what I wanted tonight...4 -
Visual studio just forced update on my friend's whole team, boss just let them all go home early and pray that it finished updating by tomorrow... Good job Microsoft3
-
Visual Studio Code is taking over the world. Every Google Dev I see is using it, especially for angular/node.
Bdw, I've been using it (T'S) for the past 24 and I'm loving it.
Never thought I'd say this for anything Microsoft. 😂19 -
Any other front-end developers check out Visual Studio Code? It’s got a lot of really nice features, including the absolute best implementation of Emmet I’ve ever seen. My new favorite editor on both Windows and Mac!12
-
Just trying Visual Studio Code because of it's first product from Microsoft that are totally free😂😂😂12
-
Visual Studio 2019 is gonna look awesome… even though I don't get why the new "blue" theme will be violet. 🤔26

I found a new hobby: coding in many text editors (or IDEs) at the same time, because "I want to find out which one is better" (I don't know why I'm actually doing this, but I can't stop)
Wait, it's not a new hobby ... I already did this with C++ with using atom and Visual Studio at the same time, then I installed Clion too and VS and Clion were both running along with atom ...question gedit text editors brackets notepad++ vscode eclipse clion intellij wordpad atom visual studio31 -
So this morning I went to go brush my teeth while half awake. It wasn't until I almost put the brush in my mouth when I felt something moving on my hand, then I saw that the entire head of my brush was swarming with ants. I immediately dropped the brush and almost yelled out loud.
But this was nothing compared to the amount of bugs I saw when I opened my Visual Studio.2 -
Visual Studio Code.
I've tried you because of hearing a lot of good stuff about you. I'd switch back to netbeans regardless because I love netbeans and I always try to use as little as possible from companies like Google/microsoft/facebook (and others) but what you're pulling right now is un-fucking-believable.
I've disabled ANY AND EVERY form of calling home I could (find) in your settings. Crash reports, automatic updates, metrics, you name it. I've searched all the fucking settings but I can't find any other home calling thing that's enabled and yet:
I'm monitoring every goddamn DNS request (through my own DNS server) and I'm still seeing calls to a Microsoft owned domain. Closed all my browser sessions and you as well and it stopped. Started browser again but not you, nothing.
Started you again: BAM. Calls to that damned Microsoft owned domain again.
If you can't honour my decision for disabling any form of home calls, go fuck yourself.
Netbeans, I'm back, I've missed you 💜35 -
About to install Visual Studio 2017 using my barely 5 Mbps internet
Install size is ~ 30fuckingg7 GB! 😨
Something gotta be seriously wrong with this world if it gets installed without any troubles.
Pray for me13 -
Drawbacks of using Linux and Windows side by side?
While using Visual studio I keep typing ESC :w for saving and then on Vim I keep pressing Ctrl + s.
Urghhhhh!!!4 -
I've been coding in Visual Studio so much that when Google Chrome pops up suggested autofill options I just press tab and nothing happens.5
-
IT'S TWO THOUSANDS FUCKING NINETEEN VERSION AND YES VISUAL STUDIO IS STILL FREEZING WHEN COPYING AND PASTING A SIMPLE FUCKING TEXT FILE INSIDE THE SOLUTION15
-
holy fucking hell, who’s dumb ass idea was it to make Visual Studio require a god damn fucking update for the installer before I can uninstall it, you stupid ass dumb fucks MS, I didn’t just tell you uninstall it so you can go burn more data down my shitty copper pipes.3
-
I have rather been enjoying MS Visual Studio Code of late. Ten years ago when I was deep in my Linux phase the thought of anything Microsoft would make me burst into flames.
Question - Am I now evil, having turned my back on sublime text, atom and a plethora of other editors?15 -
Started using visual studio code last night for PHP development. So far I’m liking it a lot. The number of plugins available is ridiculous.8
-
Holy fuck. Didn't realise how slow Android studio was until I started using visual code with the command line tools. 😮6
-
Visual studio 2017 with Xamarin:
* writing some sweet code, life is good.. build and run.
*change int age to 2, build, build failed, no single message why.
*clean, clean failed, no single message why.
* build rebuild clean all or by project, nothing works, no single message why.
*change nothing, restart VS, build success !
* writing some code, same problem
*restart VS, "this project is not compatible with Visual Studio"
Good bye guys, I'm gonna kill myself7 -
Unpopular opinion.
Instead changing UI, Microsoft should take their shit and make Visual Studio available on Linux.11 -
I'm a junior ASP.NET programmer who just graduated and currently undergoing a trainee program bootcamp by my company. Got any Visual Studio tips or extensions I should use? (I know some of you hate vs but still)15
-
By the time Visual Studio's auto completion kicked in, I went to canteen, had lunch, talked with mom and relaxed for 10 minutes.
In case anyone thinks I have a slow PC, it's a quad core core i5 with SSD7 -
"The variable has been removed during optimization and is not available".
Sometimes I really hate Visual Studio...14 -
After wasting most of the afternoon trying to fix Visual Studio, I can honestly say is is the worst IDE I have ever had the misfortune to use.
Seems the only way to "fix" it is to erase it and reinstall.
Fml18 -
* creates new class in visual studio
* needs to make it public
* writes "pubic" instead of "public" again...4 -
Why does visual studio take so long to uninstall? Is it because they want to give me time to hit that cancel button?8
-
Hololens development forced me into Visual Studio after spending years doing Unity development with MonoDevelop in MacOS.
Why haven't anyone told me to switch sooner! Thanks to Visual Studio + ReSharper, my brain farts turn into a coherent code almost automatically.
I hate that I need MacOS for the iOS development and Win 10 for Hololens. Running Win 10 on Parallels kinda works, but it is a compromise. Developing without headphones/earplugs is out of the question if you don't want to go deaf.
I wan't all the tools for a single OS so I don't have to maintain multiple computers and even more importantly travel with multiple laptops. Just love the security check question "Do you have any electronics with you? Please put it into the container." - "Could I get a couple more containers, please..."11 -
Everyone,
Get Visual Studio 2017 RC right now! It is much faster and uses less space, almost 5x less than 2015.10 -
Life as a developer:
Yesterday I could reproduce the bug everything I ran the program, but I could not debug it. Visual Studio would not break at my breakpoints.
Today Visual Studio works fine but the bug cannot be reproduced at all.
I should have become a florist instead...4 -
What the fuck Visual Studio? Last day my app was compiling succesfully. I DID NOT CHANGE ANY SINGLE FUCKING THING BEFORE I LEFT OFFICE. Today it refused to compile. It didn't even show the source of error, just says missing a reference.
- Clean solution, rebuild. Compile error
- Close VS re-open project. Compile error.
- Restart computer. Compile error.
- Close VS re-open project. Compile succesfully.
WHAT THE FUCK DID JUST HAPPEN? I could't believe it if it didn't happen to me. Is this shit compiling just by luck or what?6 -
A Visual Studio solution that had 62 (SIXTY TWO) projects for a webpage that was like 8 user forms total was like going to a shop to buy 3 items and receiving 15 tickets for that.
PMs saying no to refactoring due to not having enough time for a months. The first task took me 2 days just by fixing cyclic dependencies among the libraries. Went home and merged all the projects to just 3, building instantly in just two hours. Fuck idiot PMs that do not know how to code, buys shit and don't listen to devs. Fuck all idiots.4 -
Running Microsoft Visual studio and Android studio IDE simultaneously on an 8gb ram PC. It was an annoying experience until i "accidentally" clicked on Chrome... and my sorrows ended! Phewww.
Thank you Chrome.3 -
Whenever you feel sad just remember that when Microsoft Visual Studio App Center is down, just like StackOverflow, nobody cares...1
-
Ok so maybe not a full rant but it really pisses me off that the version number for Visual Studio 2015 is 14.03
-
Hello everybody. First time ranter, so please be nice.
Starting off with a classic: text editors.
I'm mainly a .net developer, so I mostly use Visual Studio (with vim key bindings), and (g)vim for everything else. However, visual studio code is slowly winning me over. It's sleek, it's pretty, and does a lot of cool stuff. It doesn't do all that vim does though (or does it in ways I don't yet know), and is slightly less customizable. On the other hand, vim sometimes feels like too much overhead for what I use it for.
What do you guys think? What do you use, and what personal gripes do you have?10 -
Lesson of the day: If Visual Studio starts acting up (doing inexplicable and illogical shit that literally makes me question life), just delete the .vs folder. In fact, don't delete it. Fucking shred it with a file shredder. Or even better, write it to a CD and burn the CD.6
-
That feeling when Visual Studio has been hanging for 30s while opening a project on your trusty Thinkpad, but it's running smooth like butter on that guy's Mac..3
-
When you forget to add your Visual Studio projects directory to the Avast exclusions and it delete it during debug...10
-
Happiness is removing all the compiling warning from a project which has half a million of lines of codes
*peace*3 -
I have been using Linux based system from so long but last week I was building outlook add-on using Visual studio. It was a nightmare to work on visual studio(Or any IDE in Windows) after working for a long time on Linux/UNIX based systems. So much of mouse clicks, worst console experience, etc. Windows is definitely not for developers.11
-
Ok, Microsoft just released Visual Studio for Mac. Now there's literally not a single reason why i would want to use Windows over Mac as a developer.
I like this decision by Microsoft.7 -
I just discovered this editor. It's kinda cool :)
Have you ranters used it? What do you have to say about it?31 -
Day #128: Visual studio 2015 is still installing... Can't wait for gamemaker to support Visual Studio 2017 for UWP...
Day #129: Just finished the first of 4 windows SDK's to install... things are looking up...2 -
I hate Visual Studio
So so so so so slow
Oh my god so slow
Its been compiling C++ for 𝟯 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀
How16 -
Dark-themed IDE + back-lit keyboard + coffee + headphones = best coding environment ^_^
Though there's always that one asshole who decides to talk to you Only when you're in the zone.7 -
For fucks sake Microsoft, I don't want to install Visual Studio on my 120GB C:\ drive. I want to install it on my 1TB HDD...
Seriously, why can't we just change the install directory?6 -
Do YOU know the meaning of MSBS? It stands for Microsoft BULLSHIT, Mary fucking mother of Christ. Visual Studio might be the only thing more UTTERLY FUCKED UP than the Win32 API itself, and have YOU ever touched that thing?! MADNESS!
First off, SURE. Go ahead, just take FUCKING HALF of my RAM. It's not like I have just 3.5 gigs to spare, you cock sucking mother fucking piece of disgusting sticky green horse SHIT. Oh, going to support pages to find an answer? FUCK YOU. This is a VITAL, yes VITAL part of the software gobblin up all your machine's resources! HAHA! YOU CANT TURN IT OFF!
But, A-HA! THEY LIED! THEY ALWAYS LIE. I went and changed the extension of all your USELESSS, incompetently written, PIECE OF SHIT sneaky background executables! TAKE THAT, YOU SON OF A BITCH! Can't launch those FIFTY fucking parallel processes now, can you?! CAN YOU?! AHAHA!!!
And what is the tradeoff? My toaster not going into cardiac arrest anytime I bring up the calculator, and in exchange I can't log in from Visual Studio to your ass-sniffing, ballsack-joggling backwater FUCKHOLE of a server anymore? Haha... FUCK YOU, BILL. I AM IN CHARGE NOW.
And the only annoyance now? Some random "FATAL" exception thrown at startup saying something's very, very wrong, but NOTHING I actually use is broken. I've forcefully disabled like 75% of the SHIT you installed under my nose when I asked ONLY for C/C++ packages, and NOTHING I use is broken!! I'm compiling libraries, a graphics engine, fucking BLENDER and NOTHING is broken!! Take a good WHIFF because this is MSBS AT ITS FINEST!
And I COULD find this funny IF it was the first time it's happened. IT'S NOT. I've lost count how many times I've outright DELETED files from a Microsoft installer that are supposedly "ESSENTIAL" according to the support boards, ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THEY ARE NOT, AND MY COMPUTER EVEN RUNS BETTER WITHOUT THEM HOGGING RESOURCES LIKE ITS FREE FUCKING REAL STATE YOU BUNCH OF HORSE SCREWING CORPORATE ASSFACES.
Bottom line: FUCK this CRAP. This is exactly why I don't fuck with windows updates since 2016, I know the kind of SHIT they'll pull on my system! Did YOU know? Microsoft LITERALLY and REGULARLY takes SHITS on users and calls it a FEATURE! WELL, NO MOAR, BILL. I'M MOVING TO LINUX, BITCH. SOON AS WIN7 GOES ACTUALLY OBSOLETE... WHENEVER THAT HAPPENS.
I don't even have an ending for this, so I'm off to MANUALLY editing *.vcxproj files in NOTEPAD because that's WAY BETTER than dealing with the configuration editor, which is just ANOTHER gigantically MONUMENTAL endless PILE of DIARRHEA. AAAAGHHYHHHHHHH111!!!111!!!10 -
-- Click *Update Visual studio*
-- Hey you need to update the updater in other to continue your update of your updating update installation kindly update visual studio installer.6 -
MOTHER FUCKING VISUAL STUDIO!
This S.O.B keeps crashing every time I attempt to open a fucking .aspx file. How the fuck can a company make an IDE that takes a shit every time I attempt to open a file that uses a language created by the same FUCKING COMPANY.
FUCK IT I am going home early.5 -
Just tried to install the english language pack for Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise (the thousands of bucks edition). Well... the setup displayed "DEU" for german and later tried to switch to "EN" resulting in "ENU". First WTF moment.
But what really killed me was the error message... please restart the PC BEFORE the installation? Just wow.9 -
When you used hours to find an error, and then it dissapears after restarting Visual Studio.. Not sure if i should laugh or cry4
-
So I have to install visual studio which will take about 8gb of space for node-gyp to work.
WHY THE FUCK DID I SWITCH? I WAS HAPPY WITH MY LINUX
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO2 -
fck you visual studio!!! seriously what is wrong with you?!?
~me peacfully writing some code ~
ok let's see what we did
vs: I can't compile that. The key whateverKey in line 15 is not defined.
me: ok let's investigate...
nowhere in line 15 use whateverKey.... ok....
wait I didn't change that file at all.
~me clicking rebuild solution~
vs: can't build that because of whateverKey in line 15.
me : WTF?!?
checking git diff -> file not changed
me okkkkkkk......
closing visual studio and reopening solution.
Build succeeded.
What the actuall hell?!?
I'm spending way too much time trying to get that shity peace of software to do what it is supposed to do!6 -
Hours lost.
Visual Studio test adapter was failing out during the discover phase of the tests with a stack overflow exception, but that's all the information it gave me. The tests simply would not run.
Hunting through the code line by line, I eventually find this.
WHY IS THIS ALLOWED TO COMPILE4 -
Is there a difference between vscode and visual studio?
Or are they two names for the same thing?
Either way, do you guys like it/them?
I want to try out vscode but am not sure if I should.10 -
So... visual studio 2017 came out... Well I have 2015 but I decided to update. I am still waiting 1 hour later for visual studio 2015 to uninstall...5
-
The shortcut to search solution explorer in Visual Studio is probably a choise made by PM after exceeding the project budget for the functionality.3
-
<rant>
I really don't enjoy visual studio
Is not bad but it's not worth the disk space it takes up..
Also, if your disk is starting to fill up and vs is filling the most space, YOU CAN'T <swearword> UNINSTALL IT FROM YOUR PC
To remove the shit, I had to upgrade to Windows 10 (our school PC's are not allowed to have Linux) and delete my whole fucking disk, just to get it removed
Fix your shit ms
</rant>12 -
FUCK YOU Visual Studio, didn't you ever hear about asynchronous behavior? like WHY THE HELL you have to freeze every single thing to complete a shitty task, I just need to copy/open file..
Microsoft, Xamarin, and MAC Agent.. WHAT FUCKING POSSIBLY COULD GO WRONG.
{AND NO, MY LAPTOP IS NOT SHIT, this happens only with shitual studio}2 -
Now I know this may cause people to hiss uncontrollably but it's Visual Studio 2017 for me
It's clean, with my low end configuration it's fast enough, maybe my projects aren't large enough tho, Microsoft is making efforts with the git integration, I really enjoy it as an everyday tool3 -
Yo dawg, we heard you like installers. So we put more installers in your installers, so you can install while you install your Visual Studio2
-
As a .NET dev I get questioned about using VS Code in favor of full-blown VS. My arguments are that it is faster, lightweight and overall more user-friendly.
I use it exclusively, for all types of files and projects (JSON, SQL, Angular projects, .NET Core, ...)
Do you guys like using VS Code as well? What do you use it for?
Also, if you ever want to annoy a colleague, try associating all file extensions with Visual Studio and watch him go bonkers.9 -
Sitting at work. Just had a convo about older versions of Visual Studio. I was like "you youngins with you intellisense and backwards compatibility. In VS2005 we had to climb 15 miles in the snow. Uphill. And when we only had 200 compatibility issues with VS2008 we thanked Microsoft for the privilege. What Linux? You think my school provided Linux? Linux is for earners. Top sellers. Leaders of men. Cross-platform compatibility meant that it worked on a Dell with Windows and a Gateway with Windows. I tell you those were dark times."undefined why am i like this war stories grandpa pickles glengarry glen ross visual studio mort goldman

Visual Studio 2017 (RTW)....
Hmmm..
You are not there yet, but I trust you.
If anybody can be best (among IDEs), it can only be you.9 -
>Tries to uninstall old version of Visual Studio
>Uninstaller asks to update Visual Studio to continue
... Oh... Uh... That... Doesn't... Make sense? Gee... Thanks?4 -
Sometimes I think I'm a bit masochistic... before turn off my computer I decided to check if my Visual Studio is up to date... nope, it isn't, downloading ~9 GB right now.
-
WTF Did Microsoft do this time!! Visual Studio never gave me issues even on a slow ass computer, after latest update that shit now freeze A LOT! :@ :@ :@ :@4
-
This post is now dedicated for a comment debate with the topic "Is Visual Studio Code an IDE?"
I 'll see myself out. Make the comments rain8 -
Today everything went just fine with Windows 10 and Visual Studio. It must be the "calm before the storm"! 🤔2
-
Are you worried about your development environment becoming more and more unstable?
Let me give you an example: I've been (mostly) a .NET developer for about 10 years now and yes Visual Studio crashed sometimes but not very often. Also whenever I found something that seemed like a bug in e.g. the MVC framework I always realized that the problem was in my code. However recently there is a VS update almost every week, and I more and more often bump into open GitHub issues without a fix.
Is this the same with other development environments? I also had a lot of issues with XCode/Swift but I never expected that to be stable...1 -
So I finally switched from Visual Studio 2015 to 2017. As you can see it's going great so far :/
Took me an entire day to install it and to get it to compile the most basic program. On top of that it has already crashed/frozen up over 4 times over the past 2 hours.4 -
So I have figured out that Microsoft loves Dungeons & Dragons.
Because there must be some mechanism in visual studio that uses some botched up version of the D&D rule set.
"user clicks a button, computer rolls dice, gets a 6, 6 means you are lucky".
"user clicks another button, Computer rolls dice again, gets a 10, now I crash".
Please remove this feature Microsoft, it is very hard for me to actually get anything done, not to mention getting it done before the deadline.4 -
Visual Studio 2017 15.5 is so fast!
They should call it Visual Studio 2017 Quantum.
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/vi...7 -
Piece of shit shitware called visual studio, I only need you because of that stupid vcvarsall.dll, so I gave you a folder on my HDD, but nooo, You just had to ignore this and place yourself on my SSD. My poor SSD that has very little space left.
Fuck you visual studio. To me you are a literal waste of Time, Space and Sanity2 -
The last eight years were fun, but I ran out of space while trying to compile a project, and, well, your number came up. I'm sorry...
I need a bigger SSD. I launched Visual Studio (which I rarely use so it only had the default extensions installed) to clone and build the new Windows Terminal to see what it's like. Had to download over 10GB of extensions and features first, and then compiling the project ate up every last byte of remaining space.8 -
Wanted to move Visual Studio to a different hard drive
So I uninstalled it and went to install it anew, only to find out the installation location was set to read only.
I then found out I had to run the installer with the arguments /uninstall and /force to force a complete uninstall, thus allowing me to change the installation directory... What the fuck Microsoft?1 -
I am honestly surprised in how many different ways C++, VS, and libraries are able to fail over and over and over again.
Fuck you C++ libraries
Especially fuck Visual freeze Studio5 -
What do you guys think about Visual Studio Code?
I personally like it, just wondering your opinions.12 -
So I did a clean Windows 10 restore recently on my laptop from Insider program to just Anniversary Update . Went away from my computer for a day or so by the time I got updates completed and Visual Studio up and running. So earlier today I went to start back up development on a project of mine to come across the emulators not working. The thing is that I lost 6 hrs of production to figure this out. I tried everything possible so I gave up and reinstalled VS to just remember I forgot to turn on my Hyper-V in BIOS setting. So I'm half way in VS reinstalling and I can't do anything about it. GOD FUCKEN DAMMIT W10!8
-
Thank goodness I'm not a .NET developer. There's no need to install that huuuuuuge Visual Studio tumor bajesus on my computer.13
-
Once I tried to install Visual studio 2017 at night time and went to sleep.
Woke up in the morning and it was still installing.3 -
So yeah. Just clicked "update" in Visual Studio. After 6 hours of waiting, it broke and had to wait an hour to repair it.6
-
Just wasted four hours trying to install a python library in windows!
And the bugs in Visual Studio 17... Made my day!7 -
When Microsoft releases a new Visual Studio and you quickly install it thinking all vs issues have been sorted only to realize it is the same old story.......😞😬2
-
I spent 2 hours googling and scratching my head trying to implement asyc Tast<ActionResult> on asp.net MVC. I even copy and paste the exact sample code and still didn't work. It turns out that "Visual studio for Mac" doesn't support asynchronous calls.6
-
Debugging an elusive database query problem. Attached to server process about 10 steps into the call stack trying to figure out why a a column value is not being properly cast. In comes Windows. You picked the most inappropriate time to restart for updates without asking me. Restart VM, authenticate with VPN, wait for 2FA, start up Visual Studio, enter credentials for the millionth time to authenticate with version control since the remember me checkbox doesn't work, open solution. Now where was I? Then Windows pops up a notification to inform me the updates couldn't be installed. The following comic strip comes to mind.
-
All I wanted to do want uninstall an extension from Visual Studio and then a message came up "Please update Visual Studio Installer before proceeding."2

I love you, Visual Studio :')4 -
It takes ages to get visual studio with all required tools to generate windows build of an ionic project. Windows for dev(atleast for mobile web) is not at all smooth.
Hate Visual studio..... Load project takes its own time. Build takes ....never mind.3 -
I was going to work on a group project in C++ today. I thought to myself, how hard can it be to git clone it, open it in Visual Studio and run it. Boy was I wrong.
VS opened it fine, but when I tried to run it I got over 300 errors about missing headers, including windows.h. turns out I didn't have the correct version of Windows SDK installed. Installation (and download) took over 2 hours.
When it finally installed, the linker started complaining about headers not existing, even though I could see they did in fact exist. After 20 minutes of googling I finally got VS to recognize the headers as existing.
Then I wanted to start working on my part of the project. So I made new .h and .cpp files with namespaces and classes. Except I accidentally gave a variable a value in the header file, and apparently that's not allowed (because of course it's not). So I moved the assignment into the implementation file.
Apparently I can't do that either, because I have to tell what type that variable is, even though I already did it in the header. But when I do add the type in .cpp files it complains about a redefinition if this variable.
After almost 5 hours, I have wrote like 20 lines of code that doesn't even compile.
I give up. I'm going to bed. Maybe tommorow I'll manage to force VS to work2 -
I fucking hate Visual Studio!
Don't get me wrong, from time to time I actually enjoy it but not today.
It all went south when I tried to add a new handler to an fucking old asp.net webpage. I had the access the 'Range' headed to stream bits of audio and video files to the client. It was working absolutely fine for the first hour and a half, after that point the fun started...
VS decided that my source code and the binaries won't match anymore. Everytime I tried to add a fucking breakpoint or debug this cunt of an error it would just refuse
The worst part that made me go apeshit was when I finally got a breakpoint and the exception. Some unknown fucking system dll just kept on killing my thread without a proper error message because it's optimized to the fucking moon and back!
Any ideas from the devs here on what's going on and how the fuck I can fix this?6 -
GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!!!
FUCK YOU WINDOWS!!!!
FUCK YOU SHITTY LAPTOP!!!!!!!
ok, so, I open Spotify on my shitty laptop, I go to visual studio, write 1 line of c++, copy it, AND MY FUCKING LAPTOP CRASHES!!!!
WTF KMN PLS!!!9 -
I just used Visual studio c++ for the first time. In comparison to intellij it just sucks, so many features are missing, im fighting with the editor all the time.. For example Code completion, visual studio suggests me the method name, i press enter, new line inserted, wtf? Apparently only tab is working here, next try, visual studio suggests method, I click tab, method name inserted but whithout brackets, omg. The standard shortcut for commenting out code is CTRL+K followed by CTRL+C, if you want to use the code again you need to use CTRL+K followed by CTRL+U. HOW STUPID IS THIS? Refactoring of code, e.g. Method names also sucks...6
-
I'm new to speech recognition game, so I was wondering what's the advantage of Tensorflow's audio recognition over Microsoft.Speech in Visual studio, if any.
Also open to any other suggestions/lectures on the matter.1 -
When it is Friday and you want to be productive, but you have spent the entire time since sitting down at work fixing Visual Studio and its bullshit.1

My dad was using notepad to edit some HTML for his website. I downloaded Visual Studio Code and he likes it SO MUCH MORE. (I wonder why....).
Kinda happy I could help him with it. He is pretty good at coding but just hasn't done it in a while (not his trade) so he doesn't know all the new tools and such.4 -
myCheckbox.isChecked = myboolean--> weirds bugs
myCheckbox.isChecked = myboolean ? true : false --> All weirds bugs fixed
\o/ Thank's Visual Studio for spending time \o/4 -
I've been working on a shader for the past few days. Lots of doing math on paper and switching to code to implement it. Yesterday after 3 or 4 hours of trying to figure out why nothing is rendering, I realized that I wrote all my * for multiplication as x. Visual Studio never let me know its a syntax error, and my fried brain saw no issue. Needless to saw my shader is still bugged to hell, but at least my multiplication works.3
-
Why does Visual Studio feel so special that if I add a file using File Explorer instead of through Visual Studio, it doesn't detect the file? Why does Visual Studio feel it's more important than the operating system itself?6
-
I know better to open a solution in Visual Studio on a network share over a VPN on crappy WiFi.
But I do it anyway for some reason. -
Fucking Visual Studio is such a piece of shit. 2 years ago we created a solution for our 7 webclients with 30 projects (clients, common stuff, tests, ...).
Things were ok, we could change something, save the file and everything was built and we just had to reload the client. Only F12 between the projects does not work.
But now the studio doesnt get shit done. Opening the clients solution after a clean checkout takes 5 minutes, saving doesnt build anymore, building breaks the project because it cant find references, rebuilding works but takes 3 minutes. When you have a syntactic error in a file the fucking thing almost crashes and becomes unresponse for a few seconds. It randomly shows errors in some files that disappear once you rebuilt it, sometimes it builds but still shows an error in that file.
But at least we will soon rewrite the clients in angular5 and dont need this piece of crap software anymore for the front end.
If I only could get my team to use another technology for the server so that I dont have to see this big pile of shit anymore. Fuck Visual Studio.2 -
A shitty internet connection and visual studio make the best of fucking friends. This is going on a half hour now.
Had to switch to my windows partition for a project and I'm not happy.
Cry for me Fedora. -
I wrote a complex function in my source code, Visual Studio stop working and i lost the function. I'm so furios!!!!7
-
We're trying to use Oracle databases in Visual Studio. They won't install the Oracle developer tools on my system. Life has lost all meaning. I'm floating in an endless void where the only sensations are confusion and the vague sense that someone is stepping on my stomach4

Using a touchpad to scroll is painful.
Coding with Visual Studio is painful, too.
Know what's really painful?
Not being able to scroll with the touchpad while coding with Visual Studio...10 -
Visual Studio : *No definition for the method Method with the argument of type int*
Me : Oh ? *F12 on method name*
VS : public void Method(int) {...}

VS : *No definition for the method Method with the argument of type int*7 -
When you are in Visual studio and you want to find something and you do ctrl+f and type in your search and hit enter and realize that the search location was set to "Entire Solution" 😖😖😖

//Non StackOverflow Worthy Question
Just bought a new laptop and I am deciding between dual-boot and vm with windows, most of my dev is .Net Core or Java or web, but sometimes I require Visual Studio, so.
What do you think is a better option?20 -
- My C++ only, Visual Studio 2017 needs to update.
-"sure why not"
- The update needs to download 1.84 GB.
- huh, maybe i can take advantage and uninstall the Node.js tools i don't need anymore (VS Code does better job)
- Now the update + uninstall needs 2.05GB to download.
- The update also contains ASP.NET crap, i don't even have installed the web tools or neither the .NET development platform!.
What?. -
Ok, today's rant brought to you by Microsoft Visual Studio, once again. The updated version I downloaded yesterday now has a weird problem where upon the first run of the emulator, my changes show, but on subsequent runs, no matter how much I change, save, clear cache, restart the emulator, no changes will show in the emulator until I completely restart visual studio! Currently in the process of uninstalling the updated version to download the older version, but again I can't just refresh my PC, because I have to download a version from the developer account downloads. Because the trial version can't be upgraded. This is Microsoft's Flagship Development product running on their flagship OS on a machine with killer specs and the latest updates. GET IT TOGETHER. I would be fired if I released such buggy updates and had such an arduous user experience.1
-
Visual Studio Code + Mac = not lightweight, really not that good performance
I mean the battery is burning. Literally, i plug my mac out and after a hour the battery is dead10 -
So thought I would install Visual Studio 2017 for Mac and ho boy what a load of shit that is!
They say it's designed to be macOS styled yet it is literally the same visual style and element location to mono-develop for linux and mac, piss poor effort when even creating new project uses the same form layout.2 -
!Rant
How do non-students get their IDE's?
I couldn't imagine working without Visual Studio Enterprise + ReSharper and all the Jetbrains tools, but I wouldn't by them myself (because I'm a poor student)...so how do you guys do it?17 -
Me : Hey VS, please search for all the method with that name
VS : *search all ' ; ' in the whole project*
Me : what the -- oh I missed the paste of the method's name lol
This is a funny situation when you don't have 140+ projects in your solution3 -
Developing, not just maintaining, Classic ASP websites. In Visual Studio. It just pretends it's just HTML and won't highlight or help me with syntax highlights. *Check online for Classic ASP plugins*... *two hours later throw keyboard across room*... then carry on with just HTML hints.4
-
I was assigned to maintain a legacy project today. I downloaded the source code, configured the database server and imported the project in visual Studio. For a tiny, blissful fraction of a second, I expected everything to work on the first try.6
-
Someone is having the same problem with VBCSCompiler on Visual Studio???? Every time I need to rebuild solution I must kill the VBCSCompiler.exe task before that.2
-
Build test project in VS, all tests are visible in test explorer.
Make a trivial change and build, all tests disappear.
Restart VS and rebuild, all tests visible.
Make another trivial change and build, all tests disappear.
I'm beginning to think VS isn't very good.5 -
To use Unity with VS you have to get Unity Build Tools as a plugin.
Alright, I'll download that.
Oh but now there's an error with connecting to unity, I need to get a newer VS and switch to the 2018 version of the engine.
Ok fine that's annoying but I guess I might as well upgrade.
Oh now there's no Intellisense? I guess I need to reload my project.
Oh what's this? Some major build error due to a missing component from Vs 2015?
This is getting stupid, fine let me install it.
Oh but to install the component you need to rerun the installer for VS, fine I'll redownload that.
Oh but apparently the installer _I JUST DOWNLOADED A FEW SECONDS AGO_ is outdated and needs to be upgraded. I can't _not_ update the installer and still install the components because that would be stupid, why would we let the developer decide what versions to use obviously they don't know what they're doing I mean it's not like they know how to use computers?
To get simple code completion, let's force developers to download an installer that then needs to be updated to install a component for this giant IDE that also requires the 2015 version of the IDE to be installed alongside a special plugin and patch designed for a specific game engine.
All this. For fucking code completion. I can't even get Intellisense to work in VSCode without fixing the issue since the C# extension in VSCode just binds to Visual Studio tools and runs the same shit with a different GUI.10 -
Does you code also look like a Christmas tree?
I installed a few plugins and themes in Visual Studio and now operators, fields and values all have different color coding. Not to forget rainbow brackets.6 -
Visual Studio, it was a pain in the butt installing it, it took 5 mints to open in a normal computer, debug would eat all my ram and without resharper is basically uselessundefined seo more useless tags pichardo for president visual studio linux lover algo wk60 hate stuff3
-
Damn it, Visual Studio 2017! :( It crashed without reason and then upon restart ate up all my RAM. Killing all processes in Task Manager helped a little, but something was still using up a little too much of the CPU and RAM.3
-
Visual Studio and its compatibility with Linux applications.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but this is my setup:
- Visual Studio 2017 on Windows 10
- Ubuntu 18.04 subsystem on Windows
I just can't do any Linux coding in Visual Studio... it is using my subsystem as a Remote Compiler and debugger, and a simple Hello World program does build and run successfully, but EVERY SINGLE LINE HAS ERRORS! It can't find stdio.h! Not a single include file works! They get auto-completed so it knows where the files are, but apparently opening them to see all the methods is too much for Visual Studio! I'd say the problem has something to do with IntelliSense since only inside the IDE my code has errors, compiling (which happens on the subsystem) works like a charm.2 -
Visual Studio has been one of my all time favorite text editors. This is Visual Studio Code Extensions Setup what I use.
https://roogen.com/visual-studio-co...5 -
Man it is retarded how VS re-aligns your precompile statements to the BEGINNING OF THE FUCKING LINE EVERY TIME YOU ADD A NEW ONE.
Why does it do that in the first place, it looks ugly when it’s not in-line with the code, fucking stop it. -
Yesterday : I hate everyone in Microsoft that works on this funding visual studio that now crashing every time I open my project 😤I'm going to kill them
Today : Wait... What is this? A new update? Solution now open without crashing! OH I LOVE MICROSOFT especially visual studio team 😘💗4 -
I feel like working in Visual Studio is gonna lead to me developing really bad habits. Whenever I save, VS locks up for about 15 seconds, completely killing my momentum when I'm used to habitually saving all the time. I'm starting to consider not saving my work as often, despite knowing it'll come to bite me in the ass eventually.9

Is there any extension for visual studio code that allows markdown to be exported as proper linked TOC PDF? I have tried now atleast 5 different combinations, pandoc, convert markdown etc. and they all produce either really non matching content (pandoc) or don't link the table of contents right. (but atleast show the content 1:1 of what the preview is..)2
-
I like Xamarin, but they treat Windows like crap. What is more ironic? EVERYTHING Microsoft creates or sells treats their own platform like crap! Skype on my Android has been updated constantly while Skype on PC absolutely sucks. Every developer tools like Visual Studio don't target Windows apps as much. You spend YEARS hyping us up for the Universal Windows Platform, then toss it to the side and give away Android apps. What's worse is that all of that was preventable. They could easily improve the UWP and build an ecosystem around it, but nope. They kick their fanbase, and every other end user involved in the platform, to the curb. Microsoft, nobody trusts you anymore! I've been a fan since July 29th, 2015. I owned a Windows Phone. I own Mixed Reality headset. My Android has every one of your services on it. Why? Because I spend day after day hoping for your reception. But while you are busy "Hitting Refresh", thousands, if not millions, are being ticked off by how we enjoyed the Windows platform more than you did... Get your head in the game! Your developers hang in the balance.7

Typescript integration in Visual Studio SUCKS!! I waste so much time fucking trying to set up Angular 2 boilerplate that would take almost no time in VS Code or another editor because this bloated piece of garbage has to try and hack everything into MS build tasks and "Virtual Projects".
You would think that the company that created Typescript could figure out how to integrate it properly into their flagship IDE!!!
FUUUUCCCCCKKKKK!!1 -
Build failed: "CL.exe has exited with exit code 5"
Thank you Visual Studio for the detailed error report about why the build fails! I can finally fix it!
(This is not fixable by running VS as administrator, also the output file is not running nor locked by some process)2 -
I've come to the conclusion that one of the reasons I enjoy writing code is because I get to use Visual Studio. As a beginner I have no idea how to use most of it, but it makes me feel like a pro! 😉2

Got all excited to work UNTIL VS UPDATE FUCKED UP AND GOT STUCK.
My VS is over 40gbs of shit. If I've to repair/reinstall that shit, I'm going to lose it.1 -
Question:
I've just learned html, css, php.
JavaScript and SQL i know from Before. I have used VS since the day i started programming. For all My languages ever! The thing is that My HTML/css placement skills are a huge time stealer. I waste 90% OF webdev time to just get things to the right place even with bootstrap css. Write->compile->write...... So My question is IF i should change program for writing html/css to à more visual/interactive editor or stay with VS and hopefully i become pro designer soon.3 -
So I’m a huge fan of visual studio, but it let me down today.
“Find all references” just straight up fails to find all references of a member in this big F# solution I’m documenting.
I need to be able to reliably find what I’m looking for.
Reshaper for visual studio appears to not be that maintained for F#. FML.
Download Rider evaluation on the off chance, it works flawlessly.
One begrudging commercial license purchase later (despite being the only employee) and I now have software that actually fucking works.
What a wonderful time when Microsoft’s official IDE fails in analysis of its own language. -
Can I call myself alone when I update Visual Studio or some nuget package and suddenly the project won't compile anymore? Am I the only one?1

Microsoft has released Visual Studio 2019 version 16.6 with a new IntelliSense Linter to help C++ developers efficiently clean up code.
The tool IntelliSense checks code on the go, using squiggly lines to highlight problems and Lightbulb actions for suggested fixes.
The feature can be enabled in Visual Studio 2019 version 16.6 from the Preview Features within the Tools > Options menu.

Visual Studio Freaking 2017 and still no freaking XAML intellisense for freaking Xamarin.
Freaking spent more than one hour searching for a freaking fix in vain. Might as well have used that freaking hour and learn the whole freaking Xamarin.Forms XAML vocabulary. This shit sucks.1 -
Soo, our microsoft is the best on the market.... again... Trying to compile C++ code in Visual Studio 2017. I tried restart VS but it won't help..... If I try compile this code in linux it works well... Burn...

The service hooks at Visual Studio Team Service are a mess. A new subscription for every single event. Really?
Is it that hard to add an "everything" field? Instead I can now add 25 events one by one - for every project. -
It’s 14:30 and I’ve only just opened SQL Management Studio and Visual Studio after being at work since 9am. Sometimes I hate being a team manager... so much shit shovelling and not enough fun work1
-
After 3 hours I found why Visual Studio didn’t run on my MacBook but works on my Main Mac, Macbook is running beta and caused a bug! Fuck u Apple! Spent half a day on this!
-
What the holy fuck! Resharper is fucking dog shit! I've never used it before and just had to install for a new job. Visual studio was running great on my machine with 32GB ram and i7 processor. Installed resharper and it just doesn't work. How the fuck does anyone get any work done when it takes literally seconds to register a click! I get it's features are impressive but it means fuck all if it stops me working3
-
Finally tried using github for one of my own projects. I've always used other tools but I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. The integrated tools in visual studio are great.1
-
Visual studio weirds me out... Git a new project idea, set up my local git repository via command line, just because I want to have it done the hard way for once, and initialized my visual studio project in the repo. I happily start coding and commiting until I noticed some symbols next to the files (never used visual studio for anything else than small homework assignments, which didn't need version control). I look for information about them and find out it is the preinstalles git plug-in. "Nice feature, but I want to use the command line this time", I thought. Still i looked a little bit more into the plug-in, open the team view window and realize it says "nothing to commit" and "all files are staged". I start to wonder if it just auto-commits everything. I commit manually once more and see that it commited all changes since my last manual commit. So everything is fine. But at this point I'm too weirded out, because I had a hard time finding the settings and windows that belong to the version control plug-in... Now I'm installing gcc and will probably continue coding in notepad++...
-
Open Visual Studio with existing project. After a while closed it due to accidentally clicked the close button.
Open back the Visual Studio again...
Opening the recent project...
**Project is (unavailable)**
Is okay, I can always close and open it back again. And I have done it!
The previous opened tab all is gone.2 -
So I've been using Visual Studio and I'm really starting to get pissed off at the key combinations.
Like Ctrl+K+Ctrl+D
Just to auto format code. So I'm now thinking of speeding up my workflow by using AutoHotKey which by the way is the best thing ever invented.
If anyone uses VS and is interested in me sharing the ahk script then let me know. I just feel like pressing 4 keys for simple tasks is just a waste of time and easy to forget.3 -
Just Installed visual studio 2017 haven't used it yet but am already impressed by the installation time for the first time I have visual studio install at less than 30 minutes considering I was installing the whole xamarin package too.
-
How am i supposed to learn C# if Visual Studio took me 24 hours to install, now that it's installed it crashes every time i build my code, plus, it makes chrome and IE crash every 5 minutes, and it lags as shit?11
-
I wonder how some devs claim Visual Studio is good, i don't currently use it, maybe it got better, but just the idea of being a microsoft product makes me feel less of it, I'm just wishing for some clarification here14
-
Visual studio. The lockups are incredibly annoying, the codebase's dependency on its toolset is worrying, and the inability for me to customize it deeply conflicts with how I work as a developer. It costs so much and yet the man hour cost of moving our codebase out of it is way more, so we are trapped
-
How does everyone feel about Visual Studio 2017? I think it's better than 2015 but has a long way to go.
Thoughts?2 -
A couple of months ago I bought a two year licence for PHPStorm but shortly after I started this new job as React Web developper and everyone in my new team has been using Visual Studio Code with a specific set of plugins and settings which make I my premium IDE useless.
What an investment I did.7 -
For all you mac users out there, apparently Visual Studio is coming to Mac OS
http://thenextweb.com/dd/2016/...5 -
Visual Studio is the worst. Ever. I was about a half hour digging into debugging my code, and I was about 8 layers deep into the API, with breakpoints to anchor me to each level. With no warning, Visual Studio crashed and I lost all my breakpoints, and I didn't know which file I left off in. I had to completely restart the debugging process. Visual Studio deserves to burn...4
-
Nothing like rebooting to hopefully fix a problem when you're in a coding groove. Thanks visual studio.1
-
when you're a day away from calling your app complete and change a few things (which looked good in the notebook) and this happens.
-
Just discovered this in visual studio:
shift + alt + ; (select all instances)
shift + alt + . (select next instance)
Better multi-line editing, here we come!2 -
A few days ago, VS 2017's debugger just suddenly stopped working. Breakpoints don't get hit at all. It works perfectly in VS Code. I've tried many solutions online except the one where I have to uninstall VS 2017.
I would use VS Code if it weren't so much trouble to install all the stuff to get it working for my project like VS 2017 was.
I've been outputting so much data through console these past few days and blindly trying to figure out where or why something went wrong.
Today, I've finally given up on it.
It's time I put you down, VS 2017. We had a good run. I hope uninstalling you doesn't affect my other projects.18 -
Trying to figure out the right version for Microsoft Visual Studio, Tensorflow, and Nvidia CUDA Toolkit has got me reaaaalllyyyy messed up!!!
Like the fuck!? One thing doesn't support the other's current version. It's like I'm playing a "version matching game, fucking candy crush shit!
It's so effing irritating!!! -
When /W4 in Visual Studio (cl) shows more (and more helpful) information than /Wall /Wextra /pedantic in gcc (MinGW)....
I was not expecting that....9 -

Context = VS Code
What is your 'favorite/most useful/the one that saves your ass' extension for visual studio code6 -
Visual Studio Code is a joke.
it's always auto update but always fail and then delete itself.
When i ask what happened or post a discussion on the official site they close it and send /redirect it to fucking different issue like changing language code or adding extension while the real issue about auto update failure is ignored or discarded/deleted/closed without solving anything
I need help to share this to everyone until they fix this shitty perfomance
ps: i always need to redownload that fucking visual studio code everytime it has update6 -
I enjoy Visual Studio, but the installer is GARBAGE.
My install of 2017 didn't come with a certain package, so I go to the installer to add it. Thing constantly fails with "could not find file" in the txt log. Decided I might as well update studio while I'm here. Turns out I had python packages for it too, since during this update python decided to have a fit in another project because modules and pylint suddenly disappeared.
Wtf?1 -
I would consider myself a Jedi Knight when it comes to using Visual Studio, but has anybody done any work that sounds like this description? I don't think I've ever wrote code that integrated systems like this.. I'll certainly ask for more information but I'm always surprised by the experience this community has and wanted to see if someone can scare me away from this4
-
Are there any good plugins/tools or something for visual studio 15 to turn it into a good IDE for PHP developing?
I'm using Brackets now, i tried Eclipse, PhpStorm (too slow and only a 30 day trial) and Atom so far. But idk, theres always something that makes me thinking like "nah.. thats not the right for me". Now i wanted to try VS. I used it for C++ developing and was pretty much in love with it.6 -
So my girlfriend started working as a dev at her company. She was a technical writer and got promoted. She is now working in maintaining code from previous projects.
Now comes the questions
"how do this?"2 -
Grr.
I have been struggling with schema compare and editing anything SQL related in Visual Studio for a couple of weeks now. Cursor constantly flickering, can't click on anything, and actually running the compare results in Visual Studio disappearing in puff of smoke.
I'd put it down to an update, but then this week's update didn't fix it.
Turns out it is a "feature" that Microsoft has been refusing to fix for over a year now, where none of the SQL stuff in VS works properly on a 4k external monitor. And of course I only started trying to use that stuff on my 4k monitor since I have been working from home.
Dragging VS across to the laptop screen solves the problem (and is the Microsoft fix), but I think I now need to visit the optician to get new glasses to see WTF is going on. -
I came across an issue with Visual Studio 2017. I'm unable to collapse multiline comments, there is no - sign in front of it like with code blocks.
At home it is no issue and I can do this without problems.
Ive looked online and all I can find is people not being able to collapse comments in VS Code. And people who want to collapse everything but the comments, but the comments do get collapsed.
Is it a setting I cannot find?2 -
Am I the only one who got a fabulous butthurt about Visual Studio for Mac being just a rebrand of Xamarin Studio, and inherently, Mono Develop?1

When you open an access db in visual studio so you can do sql querys with out the annoying access interface and then i realize visual studio uses the same interface as access except its worse *-*3

IDEs should be more transparent as possible. The code you see in course editor should be exactly what we see when inspecting via browser tools.
I'm looking at you ASP.NET and VS! -
Microsoft Python Language Server SUCKS in both Visual Studio and VSCode. 😵😩😠
Doesn't provide suggestions for relative imports like "from ..".

God save WPF our savior against stupid writing cords and deadlines!
Now seriously its god damn good :D im not talking about Visual Studio, which takes huge chunk of my SSD (thx Microsoft), usseles parts of it (notifications inapp etc.) and a lot of .NET frameworks! -
http://studiostyl.es/ is a excellent source for getting themes for Visual Studio.
But when you try to use it under C++, it looks like complete garbage and then you notice the theme was last updated 8 years ago and didn't supported C++ from the start.
You're damned to use the Dark or Light theme forever.1 -
When you interrupt debugging and Visual Studio won't let you compile again because the "file is used by another process", i.e. Visual Studio...

Forced to work with ASP.NET for a project. Not minding it though, even found it nice, kinda excited about .NET Core now.
HOWEVER, spent over 3 hours figuring out why can't I make a virtual property (Entity Framework actually provides proxy classes to be able to override behaviors of navigational properties, but I digress).
Says I don't have a type named 'virtual'. 3 hours in, no changes (git confirms), and IT SUDDENLY WORKS.
Fuck Visual Studio.2 -
This is pretty cool. IDK when this was changed, but if you disable all toolbars in Visual Studio, the Send Feedback button won't take up an empty line anymore.3

Idk if It's my luck or something, but as much as I love Microsoft, EVERY fucking thing of it that I use, has bugs.
I report them, they get fixed (eventually)
but goddamn.
Visual Studio enterprise taking 2mins+ to report a simple error on debug
That error happens within one of Microsoft's Nuget Packages for OneDrive Enterprise for UWP
Oh and if that wasn't bad enough, my machine is a Surface Book 2 and the cursor still stutters through it all (and on idle half the time)
Am I cursed or something?2 -
Addicted to Visual Studio for past 10 years. Looking out for IDE which can be an alternative on Linux...
Any recommendation of IDE for a Linux Noob ?11 -
Fucking visual studio and waiting 5 fucking minutes just to find out It didn't work and I need to change it and setup with another fucking 5 minutes
There must be a better way???, -
I, I don’t even know how to search this... when I run an app from Visual Studio in IE (cancer, I know it’s a long story and above my head) my kerning is a mess. When I publish the same app to the dev server, it’s fine. The kerning appears to be the only thing messed up.3

So I'm repairing Visual Studio because it's behaving differently. Been waiting for it to complete for more than 5 hours now. Hope we'll have a better internet connection1

Does anyone else have the problem that the XAML design window in VS2017 kind of freezes all the time? Can't zoom in/out or click on any element in it. Not that I develop anything in the design anyway, but clicking on an element it's a comfy way to find the corresponding XAML code.

Visual Studio is a fucking shitheap of an IDE and everyone who worked on it should be fucking incinerated.
I've been trying to get Unity to build my game for about a fucking hour and a half now, only to realize that it was a warning from a script that was causing it to fall flat on it's face.
So I deleted the script because it was a shitty script anyways, not much was being lost here, and I started building the game, and lo and behold, it was actually fucking doing something.
I went to go get a drink, only to come back to see that this stupid fucking engine gave me yet ANOTHER error that wasn't even from a script anywhere in my game's files.
It was fucking Visual Studio. It didn't even give me that concise of a fucking error, just "this file doesn't exist" or whatever hypercomplex bullshit it spat out at me.
So, I took to google, and found that I should open the solution file hidden within the uncompleted build, and upon doing so Visual Studio told me it needed to install some more shit in order to do so.
I decided to let it do it's thing, and you wanna know what the real kicker is?
I started writing this rant when it was at 25%.
I had started talking to my friend about how absolutely fucking garbage and slow this IDE is at around the point where it started downloading. It took fifteen fucking minutes for it to get to 25%.
I could uninstall and reinstall both Destiny 2 and Killing Floor 2, twice, in the time takes for this shitty fucking program to install its tumor of an update onto my system.
FUCK Visual Studio.
Fuck the person who conceived the idea of it.
And fuck every single person who supports it.
Every single person that thinks this fucking anathema of an IDE was a good idea should be incinerated.12 -
Please unity devs...
If your going to use visual studio for code development, please change to visual studio code. Idk why but it slightly annoys me. If anyone can explain why visual studio would be better please do.3 -
Fuck visual studio.
Ok, so, I had ben developing for about half an hour, when suddenly, visual studio doesn't want to run what it compiles.
"That's not a big issue" - You rn
Well that itself wouldn't be that bad, but guess what?!
VISUAL STUDIO WASN'T GENERATING AN EXE AT ALL!
I turn my antivirus off, and the same thing happens.
This has happened for 2 days now.
"UR CODES PROBS BAD THATS WHY!!!" - Also you rn
No my code is perfectly fine, because it compiled 1 build ago with no issues, and I haven't changed a thing to the code or the project.
Any suggestions on how to fix this shit?6 -
the amount of things that get to work by restarting Visual Studio or Windows makes evident that VS/WIN is just like a clogged toilet.
ABANDON THAT PLATFORM, SHITHEADS! -
I've been looking on the internet for a while, but I can't figure out if native Java Android development is a feasible/realistic thing to do using VS instead of inteliJ idea/AS.
heard some good things about VS. Anyone got any experience with native Android development on it? Not xamarin6 -
It is incomprehensible to me
why fucking piece shite visual studio not supporting horizontally scroll and multi cursor
(its have a very very simple multi cursor, if press alt and click and move mouse but its suck because, a online editor very better than this piece shite ) -
Why the fuck does the Execute Process Task from SSIS in Visual Studio fail when trying to use variables in an expression?!?
I've been debugging this shit for hours and have made absolutely no progress. There's no apparent workaround.
Fuck you Microsoft, for leaving a known bug in VS for over a decade, where the expressions are surrounded in double quotes, negating the entire purpose of using an expression for variables!!! 😡2 -
Okay I've been wondering how I've accomplished this...
does anyone know how this happens and how you prevent this from happening ?6 -
How to organize your projects in Visual Studio with separate Namespaces without naming every project like: <projectname>.<this>.<that>
Instead I want to name the solution <projectname>. And then name my project <this>.<that>? -
In Visual Studio 2017, when an error occurs and you hover your cursor over it, you cannot copy the fucking error to do a Google Search. Who was the idiot that didn't think this through?
The ONLY way is to go to the separate Error List in the bottom, and even then I can only copy all or nothing.
Man, fuck Unity for not having a better default IDE already...1 -
Looking for a suggestion for a Visual Studio material theme, or any other good dark themes, because my eyes can no longer stand the default dark theme.
-
Argh, why the hell does Visual Studio not have a god damn LOCAL HISTORY for files (not just a VCS history) like any other reasonable IDE? Heck, even Eclipse has a rather decent one!
Now, I've lost the work of one hour due to an accidental reset, and there is no way to get it back!
Fuck you, Visual studio!
